I post this as I'm sure my sentiment is felt by many who read these boards. Having been a long time smartphone user starting way back with a Treo650, I have found these boards to be a great haven for resources, whether it be something as simple as an app to make me more productive, or full on redo of the OS. Being a quite satisfied Eris owner since November, I have enthusiastically watched these boards since day 1, looking for apps, tweaks and whatever else. I must say I have never witnessed such drama and disrespect towards the devs as has unfolded on this board. It stuns me how so many people, with limited skills, understanding and know how, have beat up and flamed these guys for all the hard work they have put into making this machine much more than what it was intended to be. These are regular folks, with jobs, families and lives outside of this forum that have put their heart and soul into modifying and tweaking this equipment, whether it be for personal satisfaction, honing skills or just plain "because they can". These are the people that move society. These guys deserve a certain level of respect. I installed the leak. I'm not complaining. It has bugs, sure, but I still have much richer experience with my phone and still have considerably less issues than many of the other products that are currently offered or I have even owned in the past. Haters, move on. Get your own hobby. If you don't like whats happening, or you did something to your phone you regret, don't blame the dev. You knew at the time you went into reboot, there may be no coming back. Shame on you for taking a risk without accepting the possible consequences. To all the devs, jcase, grdlock, ivanmmj, framework and all the others who have put their free time into this project, a heartfelt thanks for your time. It is very much appreciated. For the rest of you who can only issue blame without accepting personal responsibilty, I've got a Treo I'll donate to ya. But you'd probably screw that up too.
+1 I agree
Great post!! I agree 100%
Awesome post!
Right on!
I'm one of those people "with limited skills, understanding and know how", and thanks to the devs and these boards and the grown up users I have learned a lot, have had a blast with my last 3 phones, and can never express my gratitude so-
Ignore the ignoratti! And pat yourselves on the back, guys!
(P.S. I am an old woman who is not afraid to break her phone.)
Great Post.

Man, I was thinking the same thing. I know people who tap their foot, waiting on XDA to cook up something or other, but show little gratitude for their awesome work. So....thank you XDA, where would we be without thee?

Peace
This is an excellent message. All of these developers deserve respect and appreciation. Peace to the root movement and those that enable it.
Excellent message.
Like anyone cares but I am a noob and if it werent for the devs and other experienced folks here and elsewhere, I wouldnt have ever known any of this customization was even possible. Much blood and sweat goes into that file we download without thinking from a messageboard thread. The faceless workers who we take for granted deserve much praise and respect. I know they certainly have mine.

Everybody needs to learn some etiquette when challenging somebodies work.
Have indesputible proof before you flame them.
People are people and we forget thing. PM the dev and ask for credit if credit is due, before you flame them.
Stop being cry babies and driving our devs away.
I have never seen so much drama in a dev community before. You are all babies and should be ashamed. Are you all 12 or do we have any adults here?
I am working on my first rom which I am heavily thinking about keeping for my self.......

This post is just uncalled for honestly to say you all is quite a broad stroke statement. One which i take great offense to if you feel the need to call folks babies then turn around and say your working on a rom but may keep it to yourself well i say to you that is the pot calling the kettle black aint it. If ur gonna dev do it if not that is fine no one here twists your arms. In future trolls of these forums maybe you can think about your wording prior to just putting a bunch of nonsensical stuff down.
is that what happens when you Google translate before posting? Lol

Why fight at all? We are all here to learn from each other, we all use the same phone, and we all have the same purpose; make our X2's better devices.
If 0vermind leaves XDA we have will have lost a great dev... for nothing.
i agree, this is a COMMUNITY people are supposed to help each other and unite for one purpose to tweak a peice of technology, it really sucks how that guy got totally rammed. Its to the point where people are afraid to even ask questions before spending days searching everyone should just help each other. I think that was crazy and everyone needs to take a step back and re-evaluate your purpose for being here, why fight with each other? Aren't we all adults here?

Just read the speedy Gonzales thread and this is seriously getting out of hand. Why don't we all just work together to better our phones? We went from a handful of roms to one and a few script options to...one...
In other news I took a sh*t today. Props to J. F. Brondel (1738) for inventing the valved flush toilet and Joseph Gayetty (1857) for inventing toilet paper. Also to Al Gore for inventing water. Props also to the McDonald brothers for innovating the hamburger originally offered at Delmonicos in New York, 1826. You'll find traces of it in my finished product. I hope I don't get flamed.

It just boils down to people not giving credit. 0vermind didn't mention Zep once, but he did list his tweaks.
I think some other developers are just sick of kanging and not getting credit. If I was a developer and someone took my stuff, didn't give me credit - I'd be ticked off too.
True. I see the point, but nobody is financially involved and the community is trying to get off the ground. Lets work together and improve on each other.
There are a few dozen people out there running my themes but they do they highlight their screenshots with my name when they post? Do I care?

LOL! But seriously, isn't there something more productive to do than to snipe at each other? I think everyone would agree that kanging someone's work is fundamentally wrong & ethically reprehensible. It's just bad form & it violates the integrity of this forum & its rules of order. Its bad practice that yields bad returns & promotes bad atmosphere. Which is exactly what this forum doesn't need. It wasn't so long ago that xda was THE forum & THE resource for innovation & creativity because of its contributors and participants. Now, all of that has changed. Why? And what can we do about it? Is the real answer to get smaller but purer? Or can there be a way to confront issues before they ignite publicly?

If I use your work and dont credit you...............
tell me and i will give you credit
Or revert to being 6 and calling me names and dissing me because obviously ur drunk and have nothing else to do but stroke yourself.
the problem is that once u push me to leaving the phone alone because of ur less than stellar response, now its just u left to figure out everything for everyone that WE'VE left waiting for any kind of development.
U lose a colleague that could potentially help u reinvent the wheel
U are "kanging" a (insert derogatory term here) move just to tell someone in ur everyday life that doesn't even care about ur developing talents that someone is stealing from u
Then u get worked up over it and they laugh at u.
Soooooooooooo. Instead of meeting a new teammate u willingly push urself deeper into the (insert derogatory term here) category

Dude. Lay off the 'roids.

no roids just droids..........
ahhh u like that hah?
It's unfortunate, to say the least. At the end of the day most devs don't credit Google, and as we all know w/out their OS none of this is possible. I'm just a simple member that loves all the devs contributions; isn't the choices what Android is all about? These forums are becoming monopolized by certain devs. It's obvious, but if they feel credit is due, as it should be, then go about it w/ PM's. Don't go blasting them publicly. Personally, I want to enjoy all possible mods, hacks, ROMS, and so on w/out reading a flame war... I digress. Thank you to the devs who have been able to do what they do for me..for us the community.
And to the OP, don't keep that ROM to yourself. Share with the community in an attempt to better it!! Good day.

Like everyone is saying...its not crazy he built his own scripts by tearing apart others and rebuilding them to his needs and wants he said it was a 6 month project and i think he mentioned that he took stuff from all over the place like everyone does in this GNU open-source linux community and made it his own, he probably forgot were everything came from. I know when im building a php or asp website with lots of scripts that takes me a couple of months to get just the way i like it god knows i couldn't tell you where i got all the code from you just google copy n paste try try try till it works. He said he used other peoples codes he gave reference to the init.d script and gave credit to that dev, that was just rude and totally un called for. I know that people are using my coding from php in there sites and my WP-plugins without giving me credit...its cool sometimes they float me a couple bucks rarely but whatever if you really want to throw a fit then open source GNU homebrew isn't a good place for some people unfortunetly. He seemed so excited to get his work out there you should know how that feels after so much work done and nobody knowing anything, like i do all this crazy coding and i show my wife some stupid javascript contact form that i worked really hard on and she doesn't know all that went into it and just says "it looks nice" he posted that so people could appreciate his work and he got raped. Sorry long rant but this whole thing was bad.

You said it perfectly. I was trying to write something similar. When I need a piece of code to do xyz I search for it until I find something that gets it done and then move on to the next line of code. I wouldn't sit there and document everything.

Dude don't worry. Take your time off and get everything a-ok.
Everyone already is highly appreciative of all the hard work you have put in and thanks you for your efforts. You are all kinds of awesome for the dev efforts you have put in on this new and tricky device.
So thank you and hope to see you again soon. (And btw, thanks to all the other devs who have put in such awesome effort on the NT )
I love you nick, despite what others say about you I think ur cool
Indirect,
I wish you solace from whatever is hurting you. I'm a noob who has been combing this forum for a solid week in anticipation of getting a nook tablet. I can see that you make great contributions here (and I'm sure elsewhere). Thank you for everything you and the other devs do. Hope things get better soon.

Here are some unpublished country western songs to amuse you while you both recover.
“I hate every bone in her body but mine.”
“It’s hard to kiss the lips at night that chewed my ass out all day long.”
“If I can’t be #1 in your life, then #2 on you.”
“If the phone don’t ring, you’ll know it’s me.”
“I still miss you baby but my aim is getting better.”
“I’m so miserable without you that it’s like you’re still here.”
“If I’d shot you when I wanted to, I’d be out of prison by now.”
“She got the ring and I got the finger.”
“You’re the reason our kids are so ugly.”
“While I was out getting hammered, she was home getting nailed.”
“She left me and took the dog. Boy I sure do miss him.”
Don't worry about it dude, things'll pass and you'll be OK. Thanks for all your work, it's much appreciated.

Dude, you've done so much for this community. Your real life has to come first. Get your head straight then come on back.
I volunteer for four different groups right now. If I didn't have the option of holding out the yellow flag on the field every now and then when life got tough, I woulda quit them all and moved to Montana a long time ago.
Dude, it's all good. Take time for yourself and know that you are appreciated here for all the work you have done.
Take your time man and heal, thanks for all the hard work you've put into helping us noobs And as someone already said earlier - one door closes and another one opens - completely true!
It may suck but it is very understandable that you need a break.
It's very important to have balance in your life, My real life is in management and all the crap that goes along with it, then toss in a bunch of women bull****. Personally I use XDA as my own personal escape(as a user not a dev that's a whole different ballgame).
To me it's a whole different world devoid of the crap that the real world has, filled with amazing things that are only a flash away.
A single member messaged me and made me feel so much better. Still stopping development until next week but, now its just to take time for myself and my family. thanks (you should know who you are.)
Have a wonderful Christmas
Take the time you need we'll all still be here when ya get back :}
Merry Christmas!
Family is more important than everything else, thats a fact. Take your time, clear your head, we will be here when you come back, thats for sure!
Thank you so much for all you do for the community.
Not sure what happened, but everyone is right. You are well within your rights for a break. Thanks for all your hard work, man.
Its times like these I like to repeat a quote I heard a long time ago:
"Never take life too seriously, nobody ever gets out alive.."
Hope whatever it is that ales you goes away quickly. This time of the year has always been hard on me as I've lost several loved ones. It still hurts but I've had to just learn to deal with it. I also just had my new daughter just arrive on Wednesday so good things come as well.
I hope you get a chance to forget about us, your problems, and just enjoy the spirit of the time of year. Have fun!
I've seen these in other parts of the community...
Given the recent events, I believe the creed going forward should be "show some love".
While I don't feel it's limited to just devs, as members make XDA go in circles also, I do think the devs here need to know they're loved.
That said, I'd like to start by saying thanks to JoelZ, DMeadows, Scott, Con and a non-dev, dev, Marine.
I'm sure I'm forgetting someone but these are the guys that come to mind first...
I have made it a point in my XDA history not to post unless it's necessary or I'm trying to be informative. I generally stay on-topic etc so count this as an exception, lol.
Anyways, guys, you've all been so helpful to me, on a personal level. I've pm'ed a couple of you on various things and you've always been quick and genuinely helpful in your responses and that is awesome.
It's because of you I will be hanging onto my rezound for awhile, as you've made a few months not having CM a little less painful with all of your hard work, friendliness and enthusiasm.
I encourage other users to post their feelings, remarks, comments to their favorite dev(s) and be let them hear how awesome-sauce they are.
Thanks again
Sincerely,
This Guy

This is my personal thanks to all the Developers on here. Without you, we wouldn't have the great things we do now. I want you to be reminded that your hard work doesn't go unrecognized, and hopefully you can continue to deal with us, the people, and still provide us with awesome products. If you read this, hit thanks.
Edit: There are so many others who deserve thanks and appreciation. For example, andybones is one of them, who is always helping out those in need. Also, people like us, who like to help others as well, and keep our patience intact when times get tough.
Special Note: Protekk, I'm sorry for the ones who drove you away from the Rezound community. I didn't pay attention to any sort of progress you had going, but I'm sure it was great since you have done a lot as a developer. I doubt you'll ever read this, but if you did, just know a lot of members feel bad as to what happened. Leave your legacy, Protekk.
Don't forget Newt, his ril fix was impressive. Thanks to everyone that helps folks around here. We have a lot of folks new to Modding in this forum. Lets be patient and help one another so we can all get more from and enjoy our device.
One thing I notice is that a Dev will get 20 posts of people praising them for their work, clicking the thanks button, and then one person out of that 20 says something dumb or is unappreciative and that is the one that gets the attention, and the Dev getting irritated about it. I sucks that there are a few unappreciative people out there, but I think the Devs need to weigh that against the huge majority of appreciative and thankful people.
The devs here do great, amazing work and deserve all the thanks they get.

I just wanted to bump this to the top so it is easily seen. I have modded multiple devices, and can say that the rezound has been the one with the longest learning curve. Our forum is junked up because we, as a community, have allowed it to happen. Instead of one newb learning, and posting a definitive guide on how to do some of the stuff, or a simple walk thru explanation, we have twice the threads. Before anyone jumps on me to do it, or that is why we need to search, XDA search sucks. I don't know enough to do this. I am still confused about the multiple hboots, and would want someone who knows their stuff, so would you. If you look at our stickies, they are all old. I have been on forums where all of the important info is in the top 2 stickies. Hell, Fattire helped the nook color forum learn how to build cm9 from source. (should check it out, that thread is amazing)So Veterans attacking newbs has got to stop. Newbs attacking Vets, and Dev's has got to stop. Attacking Marcus has got to stop. If we tried helping people instead of wasting all of our time holding them down, we would evolve as a community. I am not harassing, or blaming anyone. Thank you to all of those that blaze the trail ahead of us. Thank you to Nils, Joel,Bored, Newt, DMeadows, Protekk, paulie vicious, Con, and everybody else that has contributed to the Rezound. I may post here again to bump it up because this is one of the most important threads in general.
Edit: also want to thank all of the kernel developers, themers, and newbs.

Just saw your post in the other thread... that sucks, please don't be a stranger, you helped me a lot too... one of 2 XDA people I've ever bothered to Gtalk with, thanks for all you've done sir
Another bump. I have mostly been quiet unless I thought my contributions could help. I think the devs generally get the thanks they deserve, but not always.
Thanks, Scott, Con, antp, graymonkey44, NilsP, Newt, and SO many more. Don't let the negative get to you. There are SO many people here who never post a word who appreciate your work.
And to those of you who take it as your personal responsibility to jump on or flame noobs or anyone, just chill, ok?
I believe we can all be civil to one another and still have fun and teach/learn.
Thanks again to everyone who puts their time in and makes this a better place.

I'm a big fan of many of the Devs here. Some I met in the Incredible forums. All of them are brilliant at what they do. Joel, Newt, bored, Nils, you guys are my personal favorites.
Some devs here are more humble and down-to-earth than others. Some are total head cases! LOL!
Nils is a prime example of a Dev who does amazing work, but doesn't make a spectacle of himself by obnoxiously tooting his own horn. But you can tell by his legion of loyal ROM flashers that his work is top shelf. He is very patient, helpful, and probably the best of the bunch when it comes to troubleshooting and technical support. Obviously, I'm a big fan. He's a class act.
Some folks here can't resist telling us over and over about how great they are, and it can get a little tedious. If your work is good, your 'thanks' meter, positive feedback, and donation balance should reflect that and be ego boost enough. Let the masses tell you how good you are. It'll carry more weight.
If we all tried a little harder to keep it classy and respect each other, this place might attract devs instead of running them off.
Thanks,
BBEgo
A whole lotta thanks son!
I do appreciate all of the Devs for putting real life things on hold to provide us those dope roms on their own time and dime. Words cannot express how grateful we should all be that these guys/gals put up a lot of their time and knowledge for us.
The least we can do is give a "Thanks" and search the Dev thread BEFORE you ask a question because 9/10 it has already been address/answered. Do not make your first post in a thread "When's the next update" or "Can you fix this" or "Why doesn't this work". If we were to do the simple things like that the Devs would be much happier.
Lastly, I would also like to point out there are many of us users who also spend quite a bit of time on this forum to help other users with the bit of knowledge they have. I think those guys/gals also deserve a shout out as well because they also do help make things a slight bit easier for the real deal Developers.
Just sayin
Favor
When I was young, when someone did something for you that they didn't HAVE to do, that was called a "favor". And the one lesson that I learned early in life is that you don't question a favor - you accept it. You say thank you. And just because you got one favor, don't assume you are going to get another one. You aren't "entitled" to anything as the result of a favor, nor does the person that did the favor HAVE to keep doing favors for you. He or she deserves your gratitude, if not a good deal more.
As far as I'm concerned these Devs, Themers, Contributors, Helpers, etc., are doing us, the Users, Flashers, Lurkers, etc., a FAVOR. Accept the favor, thank the person doing the favor, but don't question the favor.
Just sayin'......

I agree, although people may take it as a negative. We should stay positive for Protekk and hope maybe he really will give us the RIL.
Being a New York native and personally affected by the events of 9/11 I would like us all to remember the lost, thank the hero's from that day and commend our soldiers who continue to fight for our freedom. Thank You...I will never forget the events of this day 11 Years ago and the way people came together after as Americans to help any way they could ...from giving blood to digging through the wreckage for survivors .. 8:46 am 9/11/01
I'm on the West Coast and don't know any victims but my heart grieves for those that are still grieving. God Bless America

These kind of tragedies should remind us of more important things in life. We shouldn't dwell on the past, but it puts things in perspective. Not getting the latest update from Google is a small thing compared to major world events. I would like to thank all those who serve our country and keep us safe. 9/11 was the worst day for our country that has happened in my lifetime.

America will never forget and neither will i. To all my brothers and sisters in arms come home safe. To americans everywhere support our troops and troopettes regardless if you agree with the war or not. Remember thats someones daughter, son, sister, brother, grandchild. 9/11/01 i will always remember. I lived only 1hr from shenksville and helped with the search and cleanup efforts.

Ive been a Paramedic doing 911 for 15 years....Ive lost friends on the job in fires or some other accident....you never know what that day will bring because someone decides to to some random act of violence or what not. Heart goes out to the victims of 9/11
I remember I was in my college dorm watching it on the tv. That was a crazy day. The campus was shut down. We couldn't believe it. All the higher security after. And this was in Louisiana.....It kinda started me towards being a firefighter.

Here's my screensaver for the day. Remembering the kony and the towers.
Was in military the day it happened. We were told to make sure our wills were filled out right, bc we were going to war the next day. Was very surreal.

God bless America. Also everyone should know yesterday a cop officer Patrick O'Rourke was murdered by some embezzling douche that didn't want to go to jail in my home town West Bloomfield MI.

I used to work in the WTC, and across the street at the WFC. Watched the towers go up when I was a kid. As a First Responder worked the '93 bombing.

On September 11, 2001 I was in the Pentagon, around the corner and down the hall from the point of impact. I had just helped a lady find an office in that section, and she was killed there less than 10 minutes later.
I can't begin to talk about the rest of that week, but I had to burn my uniform and boots after because they were contaminated.
I am still in the Pentagon, although I am now a civilian. I still have a graphic with photographs of the people who died here that day (minus the terrorists) in my office. I look at that graphic every day.
I will never forget.

I work with his brother in law and know his wife. It's really messed up all of the senseless acts that leave children without parents and parents without children. He left behind four young kids and a wife.

I was still in High School in NYC and remember that it was a nice day just like today. The school managed to keep it contained until late in the day, at which point it was a devastating shock. Thoughts and prayers to those who lost loved ones that tragic day.

I was in second grade when it happened. My teacher played the news for our class and I was so traumatized by the event that I went to therapy for a bit as a kid. Never forget.

Wow that made me feel old. I was in my second year of college.

I was a freshman in hs. In the shower at the time when first plane hit. My dad came pounding on the door "we've been attacked!" Was late goin to school cause I was glued to tv. In every class the news was on, no one did anything that day. No one even went out of their rooms for break or lunch. We all stayed in watching the events fold. And to this day I especially acknowledge every one in the military as I work a lot in different bases as a civilian contractor. It's especially hard at places like the navy medical center in san Diego. The ones in wheel chairs with half their bodies missing from ied's. I make it a point to stop and thank them for their service. Everyone in our office now does it every time no matter where we work. And I want to say thank you for your courage and honor you bestowed to this country on Sept 11th and on to anyone here that I can't personally shake hands with.
