Their were a few things I wanted to do with my Galaxy Note 8 that I couldn't accomplish with the stock Samsung Android. One was being able to use my Sixaxis over blue tooth (which is totally awesome and worth the rooting on its own) and the second was being able to update my OS as it is released.
Right now my Note is running 4.1.2 and I would like to run the latests 4.4. I have NO idea how or even if this is possible. Just looking for some advice.

I'm thinking of buying a tab but don't like that samsung has "branded" the OS now with touchwiz, is it possible to android, without samsung stuff, so as to get the updates ota when they're released? For example 3.2 is released but haven't made it to galaxy 10.1 yet?
Does one need to root the tablet to do this?
Are there any nice how-tos?
Buying a tablet or waiting for google to release their own depends on if this is possible.
Thanks for any help!

Yes you have to root to get 3.2 honeycomb. Right now some developers are developing vanilla 3.2 ROM for Gtab 10.1. And each time an update is released for honeycomb we have to wait for the developers to update their ROM, so that we can flash the ROM.
Another thing is that honey comb wont be seeing much updates as IceCream sandwich is just about to be released.
If you want to get updates directly from Google then you have to buy a Google Experience Device. but right now there is no pure google experience tablet (AFAIK).
I think I'm looking for the same thing, I want a 10.1 tab but without the Touchwiz mods..
But just to confirm that I understand you correctly, If I purchase one of these tablets it would be possible to de-brand it and remove the Samsung bloatware/Touchwiz stuff and thus run the basic stock Android by using one of the ROMS posted throughout the forums, which I'm assuming is limited to 3.1 as you say 3.2 is in development, not that version makes any difference to myself.

Yes. You can install any non-touchwiz ROM in the dev section(Blazer is the only one i guess) or use the 3.1 stock ROM
It may seem a bit stupid but wonder if I install this Galaxy S5 Firmware on my Galaxy S3 go right? Does the Touchwiz it will be the same as the S5? Why seen a ROM (the so "DN4 ROM") based Galaxy Note 4 running on S3, with functions and appearance of the Note 4.
Grateful to all!
Just use the nexus factory images while you are at it. Anyway you kiss your phone goodbye
Why? I did not quite understand.
It will brick your phone. Don't try it.
So you're trying to achieve installing an S5 firmware on S3? That's quite ambitious!
It won't work, I don't have to go into the details because it's obvious.
If you want to change the looks of your device say to an S5 look use the available ROMs here on forums, they look the same as the device they're ported from. For example if you install Blekota's Note 4 ROM, you'll get the exact looks of the note 4, not the same experience though.
I'm honestly tired of searching; I guess I'm the only person with a Rooted Sprint Galaxy S5 and a Galaxy Gear S. The GS5 (running on BlissPop) is not supporting the Galaxy Apps/Gear Manager. I've tried several ways to unroot/back to stock ROM and still getting a FAIL from Odin. I want the ability to interact with my Gear S even by going back to stock ROM. I can't be the only one in the world with this problem...! At least I refuse to believe so...

Thats an issue with your BlissPop rom. Have you tried posting in the BlissPop rom forum? The best way to get back to stock is to grab OFFICIAL firmware. Its also possible that your device is formatted for custom roms and would need to be reformated to stock...official firmware should automatically do this if it is different.
Hello all
I friend of mine donated his Galaxy Tab 10.1 to my son.
Now I need to update to the latest possible firmware. Not even YouTube kids works on the old firmware.
When trying to do OTA upgrade it mentions no upgrade available. I chatted to Samsung support and they suggest using Kies. Sadly this tablet isn't compatible with Kies 3 and I can't seem to locate older versions.
Can anyone assist or guide me in the correct direction
With thanks

If the tablet says that there's no new firmware, then there's no new firmware available.
You could root it, install a custom recovery and flash the latest Android 7.1.1 ROM from decatf if you want.
However, this tablet is getting pretty old by now and youtube just doesn't run super smooth without overclocking (and even then there are no guarantees). If you want my honest opinion, I suggest you look for a second hand Nexus 7 2013. It still runs smoothly today and has a very active developers community.

Wait a minute.. You have a GT N8000, this forum is for the GT P7500 /7510. Normally the latest Android for your tablet is 4.4.2. If you want to root it you will want to look at the specific forum for your type of tablet.
And a factory reset can sometimes do wonders for the speed of your device, if you don't mind loosing everything on it.
Excuse my noobness, I have not worked on a rooted Samsung device in quite a few years, but I have the Tab S6 (TM-860), and it is rooted. It currently has the November 1st, security patch with One UI 2.5, but I want to upgrade it to One UI 3.1.
I cannot figure out which files to download from https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-tab-s6/firmware/#SM-T860, but my end goal is simply to patch my tablet to the latest release, and reapply my rom (420 rom).
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
FYI, I do have TWRP installed, and I know it does not work with Android 11, so I am happy to remove it, just need to know how to do so on this device.
So, i found my firmware, but does samsung not provide the files? I'm guessing they don't, because they are control freaks, but you never know
