[Q] Step 7 rooting problem with SuperOneClick - Motorola Droid X2

I just purchased a Droid x2 for my daughter to use on PagePlus. It's running 2.3.4. I followed the instructions for rooting it using SuperOneClick and get stuck at Step 7 no matter what I do. I've spent hours trying to get this to work unsuccessfully.
I'm running Win 7. I downloaded the Android SDK and have Java installed. I downloaded SOC and ran it. It finds the phone each time and just times out at Step 7. I've tried different cables, different USB ports with no success.
I downloaded PDAnet to get different drivers and that did not work.
I have NOT tried MoonShadow's method yet.
I am trying to root simply to freeze apps that I know my daughter has no interest in so as to preserve memory. If it is possible to disable cellular data (i.e., limit her to wifi), that would be a bonus.
What am I doing wrong?
TIA,
CheapDad

try pete's root tools or magic md5 method, links in my list

Unsuccessful. Tried SuperOneClick, Doomlord and Pete's. None of them would work for me. For research purposes, note that my phone is active on PagePlus (Verizon MVNO).

if magic does not work, may need to wipe data
or reflash the Firmware

another option
download ezSBF DX2 4.5.1.iso
follow Instructions for Using an .iso file
and try the root only option

[Solved]Having issues with flashing ROM's

I am having issues installing any ROM on my DX2.
I rooted via ezSBF on 2.3.4 and i cannot flash any ROMs. I have root access (verified with root checker).
I've tried to flash almost all of the 2.3.4 ROM's available and i keep getting the error:
"set_perm: some changes failed
E:Error in /sdcard/cm-10-20121007-UNOFFICIAL-daytona.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted."
That's the error i recieve with CM10 A2, but it happened with AOKP, PA, as well as others too.
So i really don't know what's wrong, maybe my phone doesn't have the correct permissions set?
Any helpful advice/comments are appreciated.
Thanks in advance. :fingers-crossed:
Make sure you are using the right Bootstrap file. There are two. One for stock and I think Eclipse uses it. In the CM7 thread, there is a Bootstrap specifically for CM7. This is also the one we use for CM9, CM10 and all other ROMs based off those.

I'm on stock 2.3.4, would i still need to use the one for CM7?

I have read that you can use the CM7 Bootstrap for everything. But the way I do it is I use the Regular Bootstrap when I'm on stock (usually after an SBF) and switch to the CM7 one after flashing a ROM. I just keep both apk files on my device at all times and instal the one I need based on what ROM I am on.

I just realized you are on stock now so the regular one should work. Try the CM7 one anyway and see if that works for you.

As do I, but recently i haven't been able to flash anything. :crying:
BTW. Pete's Root Tools, Motorola One Click, and Zergrush never grant me root access and i have no idea why.

Do you make sure to turn USB debugging on and check "unknown sources" in settings before running them?
Yes sir.
The only way i've been able to obtain root is via ezSBF and (ironically) it uses zergrush to root the device.
I haven't been able to root it with just the .bat file.
Have you tried to sbf in rsd and then use the magic md5 iso?

so i never actually tried it.

I've never used the magic md5 thing. I always SBF then root with the 1 click root tool. Use the regular bootstrap and wipe cache, dalvik and data then flash a ROM. It has always worked with no issues for me.
Yeah that used to be me until the one click tool, pete's, zergrush, etc. all stopped working for me.
I was flash-crazy, now i'm just lucky to even get my phone rooted at all.

You need to force windows to load the Qualcomm diagnostic device drivers in order to see the phone on a COM port.

Check this post from the thread I linked. It helps explain how to manually force the QC diagnostic device drivers to load in Windows.
That is your issue.
I ran into the problem and flashed fast boot files. Just Google Droid Razr utility and find the one that is appropriate.

Yup, just like that one but that's for Jellybean, if your on jellybean use that one. But if your on ICS use this one: http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/t...-verizon-droid-razr-and-droid-razr-maxx-only/
Its a big file but it will work, and its really easy. Just install your moto drivers and follow the instructions, with the files. If you need any more help reply or pm.

If that doesn't work use PDA net: http://pdanet.co/a/
Note: You will lose everything including your root.

Then those two will not work since there meant for CDMA xt912. So you can use RSD lite to flash fastboot files, you will need

[Q] More SBF troubles......

Hey there folks. I should probably preface this whole thing by letting everyone know that I have successfully SBF'd my DX2 in the past a few times, but most recently I keep getting an error in the middle of the process. Sine I've disconnected the phone after that error message, it's basically just been a brick. I've repeated the process a few times and I continue to get error messages at the same point in the process.
I also looked on the web and downloaded a new version of RSD Lite (5.4.4) and tried it with that version with still the same results. Originally I had decided to SBF in the first place because I had flashed the CM10A3 mod to my phone and there were all kinds of bugs making the phone unusable for that OS. I attempted to reflash something else (like the CM7.2 that I had running on it flawlessly) but the verbiage for that ROM said I needed to start from GB2.3.4, so I was afraid to go straight to CM10 from CM7. Admittedly, I am a little confused as to whether all new mods can only be flashed from GB2.3.4 or if it's okay to go directly from one mod to another, so a little advice there would be appreciated too......
So....is this thing savable???
Thanks in advance,
Scott

Hey Shadow....thanks for the advice as well as the great work on putting together the Linux-based SBF tool. I tried it and everything was going smoothly until it started to flash and very early on I got an error message:
"Uploading RDL03 failed 00080000/00300000
!! failed"
Any ideas??
sounds like hardware failure.
may not be fixable.
you can keep trying to flash the sbf with rsd lite or ezSBF
or you could try flashing the boot.img with moto-fastboot.exe
I'll post some links

read SBF "ACTUALLY" Fails... Need help with ADB fastboot
seems like same error
download moto-fastboot.exe and DX2 boot.img
move to a folder like c/root
and unzip both
boot DX2 to fastboot
a. Pull the battery.
b. Plug the battery back in.
c. Power up your phone by pressing and holding the VOLUME DOWN BUTTON and then pressing the POWER BUTTON until you see the words FASTBOOT (in white) at the top of the DX2’s screen. This should only take about 3-5 seconds
d. e. Press the VOLUME UP BUTTON and the screen will say Starting Fastboot protocol support, when you see that phone is ready
Open the CMD, (Start/all programs/accessories/command prompt and enter the these commands.
cd/
cd c:root
moto-fastboot.exe flash boot boot.img
So I flashed the boot.img via your instructions and everything seemed to go fine so I tried the ezSBF method but it failed again. I also tried to SBF via RSD Lite to see if that would work but it failed also. Clearly there was some king of progress though because this time I got 29% of the way thru the flashing process as opposed to only 4% like before flashing the boot.img.
Frustrated!!

[Q] Lost Root, now what should I do?

I am new to the whole rooting process But I rooted my s4 and it seemed like it rooted fine but then I lost the root after restarting .After backtracking I found out that I didn't update the binaries on Super SU and if I try to do it now it says installation failed. When I reboot the phone the Android with the unlock comes up, but when I run root checker it says not rooted. Should I just start the root steps all over again from the beginning( can I even do that without bricking the phone) or is there a certain part of the process I should continue from safely? Thx in advance guys!
Thread I used
I used:bhp090808's all in one tool to root by the way if that helps anyone figure out what I should do. The thread for it is :

Lost root, as well
I had a similar case of mysteriously loosing root access and didn't want to post a new thread, since this one was here. I'm running a custom ROM though (Eclipse), so if I use the all-in-one root method I originally used to root the phone, will I get any problems?

[Q] Need some help, might be bricked.

Alright I will try to keep this some what short. I gave my X2 to my younger brother a while ago. At the time I think it was running CM 10, I can't remember for sure. I know it was 4.0+ though. He was having some errors popping up so one weekend I was home I was just going to reflash the ROM I had on there. So, that's what I thought I did. Tried to boot after install and would not go. I was not as familiar with SBFing and the likes so if I remember correctly I think I just tried to factory reset from recovery. After this I don't really remember what I did, but I do know it has not turned on since.
I just pulled it out again today and I am unable to do anything but boot into recovery. I can't boot into Fastboot to push files (just stays at Starting Fastboot protocol support). I can not get my computer to recognize the device at all (fastboot or adb). Even if there was a way to use RSD Lite I wouldn't be able to because RSD won't recognize devices either (I'm on Windows 8.1, have heard there is problems). What I do have though is an SD card and another Droid 3 that I can use to get files onto the SD card. Are there files that I can install directly off of the SD card in recovery mode that may be able to help me? I am pretty sure that the device is still on 4.(something) if that makes any difference. Sorry if this is confusing and thanks for any help.
Not sure about status on moto drivers for win 8.1
I would install divers installer from moto site
Link in my main page under divers issues sd_shadow's list of links for Droid FAQs, SBF, Rooting, ROMs....

This is for a dx2 for verizon network?
