Hi!
I was noticing issues a few days ago but never though they were phone related but I just did a test and the downloads speeds are horrible with Wifi. I mean .21mps and upload just scored 2.81Mb
On one random test it got about 8 download just 15 mins ago but after that is all super slow.
No idea what kind of settings I can tweak here.
In comparison a HTC Amaze gets 11Mb download in the same spot and even the horrible Wifi of the TF201 transformer Prime gets about 6Mb :/
Any suggestions?
PS UPDATE
In my case it was the router.
Got a Linksys E2500 and now all my devices max out my internet speeds...happy ending!
Yup! I also noticed this after the 290 update, so it's definitely a software issue (thank god). I noticed around two weeks ago that my download speed was at 12 Mbps, which is what it should be at, but one day later it was at 7. So I logged on my 2.4GHz network instead of 5GHz, and it was back to normal... well, until it wasn't. It had gone down to 7 again. And that's how it's been for the past two weeks. I have no idea why this happens, but it is driving me crazy. It's nice to see that I'm not the only one with this issue though. It helps a little while to switch between the frequencies for me, but I'm getting really tired of it.
What router do you have? I have a Netgear something something..
Sent from my C6833 using Tapatalk
Got a Netgear 2.4Ghz kind of old by now and I wish I was getting 7 :/
Just changed to CH1 on the router, did a quick run and was getting about finally but then got a lost network connection error, ran it again and got .12 download! :/
In thought about trying Dogg ROM ...this si really annoying me now :/

Alright, so you have a Netgear too. Interesting. But I didn't have any issues on 257, so it's kind of strange.
I'm completely blank, and I have no idea what the problem might be. How much data has AndroidOS used on your ZU on WiFi?
Sent from my C6833 using Tapatalk
How can you check data usage under Wifi only.. like maybe just restart it and let it sit to see what it is doing?
I am going to ask on the Dogg Rom thread what people is getting with Wifi too.
Go to data usage, tap the three dots and then "show WiFi usage".
Sent from my C6833 using Tapatalk
For today is showing 101MB Android OS
Right now it is getting into almost 4MB download and 5 upload so that is better than the .21s of before but it just keep changing all the time while my HTC Amaze gets almost 20Mb downloads! :/
I even though of getting a more modern router!
Ah, okay. AndroidOS here has used 3.8GB so far this month, which isn't normal at all. It should be around 50MB. It doesn't add up at all. What system service is using that much data? The answer is non, which makes this another mystery on my part.
I have read a lot about people having the same problem as me, but they also had really bad battery life and it's usually easy to catch the guilty service, but my battery is awesome and AndroidOS only uses data while I'm on Wi-Fi... Like what the hell...! I'm drawing complete blanks here
Sent from my C6833 using Tapatalk
Wow I just saw that from Jan 1 to Jan 9 I have 3.60GB of Android OS and 1.6GB of youtube...so that is more than double my actual Youtube Wifi usage! WTH :/
Gasp... I got almost 6GB Android OS usage in one week?!?! Wth...
On the other note, that is weird why your Amaze got better speed compared to ZU, perhaps there's some incompatibility between ZU and your router? I'm using Asus and it works just fine, just did a quick speedtest, and pretty much same speed between ZU on wifi and ethernet on PC, 55-58Mbps
Are you on stock .290 ROM? What router is that?

Totally stock. 290, Asus RT N66U
Before, i was using Linksys E2000, wifi speed is only can reach half speed of ethernet.
And suddenly like at 11pm it started getting 16Mb down again and this morning it was still good...maybe my router is acting up indeed? I did try the HTC two more times like at 10pm and it dropped to about 6Mb compared to previous side to side tests where it was getting 16Mb and the Ultra only .21...yeah hard to track down the issue with so many random acts.
In any case, I am going to try a new router.
A local is selling a Linksys EA4500 for $75. If I can get it for $50, it should be an upgrade from what I got...I hope
I was getting just 1MBps of upload speed when sending my film through Wifi to my desktop. but when i change target (to my NAS) the speed is increased to 3MBps. I know it is still counted as slow, but just to inform that different target/source is another factor too.
LOL, take a look at this

Now is that because of the sync of data, pictures, apps, etc to google?

I don't sync my photos, apps etc. so it can't be that. I do have auto-sync on 24/7, but that's only gmail syncing and stuff like that. Automatic backup is disabled. The funny thing i noticed is that AndroidOS' data usage will increase whenever i use the YouTube app. Logic, not even once
Edit: Oh, and btw, regarding the WiFi issue we're both having, the upload/download speed is constantly at max on my computer, but not on the Ultra, so it has to be a software issue in 290.
I dont get it as other users do not have the same problem or so they claim.
I even asked on the Dogg Rom thread. And this morning suddenly mine was fine again. I am getting a new router to switch from 2.4 to 5 if that helps since at home there are too many close routers and too many wireless things.
Besides, many times I have to come home and uplug the router and plug back in for the wireless to connect so I am fed up with it

Yeah, it's strange that we're the only ones with this problem, and we both have Netgear routers I should probably move my router around and see if that makes a difference. It's currently sitting next to my TV and a lot of other gadgets, which isn't that smart
I have an oldie Netgear but someone is selling the wndr3400 for $40 local. Maybe I will give it a shot.

Hello all, I am not sure if any one has mantioned this or not. I looked thru the whole Atrix forum and could not find anything. I just got the Atrix about a week ago. I noticed that after using the data for couple of hours (Streaming music) it disconnects and I dont have access to data till I power off for a while and power on again. it is the same story every time I use data for 1 or 2 hours. replaced the phone once already including the SIM card and still the same thing. Any one having the same problem? Please reply. Thanks.
Am I in the right forum? If not, please forgive me, let me know and point me to the right direction? Thanks.
So you lose data completely? No h, e, 3g? Just bars? I had a similar issue on my captivate if I drove around listening to Pandora sometimes it would randomly stop playing till I went to the next song.

Well, I see the H+, but the little arrows (TX/RX) right underneath it disappear and I have no data connection and all this is happening while I'm in the same spot (In my room or at work at my desk). Also a window pops out saying Network Error. Also, I never see E or 3g. It is always H+ even when there is only 1 bar. Is that normal? Here is a picture of it. It just did it to me. Now i have no data connection unless I power down for a while. Here is another Pic. If you notice, there are no Arrows under H+.

It happens to me on data only without wifi on or off. I was just wondering if this was happening to anyone else. I guess no one used the data long enough to see this problem. It looks like this is a Motorola problem and I will have to return the device. Don't want to but don't want to keep a defective device.

Check your Battery Manager -> Battery mode setting. I think by default it's set to Nighttime sleep, which (in theory) shouldn't affect any music streaming or sync apps until night time, but it's possible that the profile is wonky. Try using the performance option or the custom (even though custom warns you of this very same issue).
This issue finally happened to me today.
I think it had to do with Extended Controls widget not correctly enabling/disabling the data apn.
In settings everything was right but I could not get the network even though it was showing the H+.

Hi. If you keep using the data nonstop, you will see that it will happen to you more often. I read some where in a forum that Motorola is having some kind of a power management problem on these devices (Atrix4G & Bionic) where it over heats and effects the RF radio and Motorola is denying it. I am not sure how much of it is true. I can not find that article.
Here. I fond it. Every one, read this.
http://androidcommunity.com/motorol...-suffering-unfixable-power-problems-20110126/
Hey all, Guess what I just found out. After talking to few AT&T tech support about the problem I am having with the device, they transferred me to Motorola tech support. Guess what they told me. The Motorola Atrix 4G is not a 3G device. It is only strictly 4G device. WOW. That sucks. I thought this was E, H & H+ device. That is not what I was told in the AT&T corp. store when I went to purchase it. I was told that it is a 3g/4G device and if there is no 4G network it will drop down to 3G. But I don't think that is the problem. The device is defective. Just now I power off and power back on and it is working fine so far and I don't think we have 4G network in my area.
Update: 03/11/2011 02:13PM PST PDT
Hello all. I am just doing an update. I went and replaced the device one more time (3rd device, 4th SIM card) and it is still the same. It keeps disconnecting from Data every 1 hour or so. I finally called Motorola tech support. The first level tech support could not help me, so he transferred me to second level tech support. The second level tech support told me that they are going to try it on their own devices that they have and call me back the next day. So they did. She called me back the next day and told me that they could not duplicate the problem (of course). So she said she is not going to let it go, she is going to sent it to the engineers to see if they can find out what the problem is and she is going to call me back on Monday 03/14/2011. If they still have no solution for this, I’m going to return the device and reverse my upgrade. It is just a shame that Motorola (being the first in communications) has to get beaten by other Competitors.
any update on the issue? im starting to have the same problem with my atrix.

Nope. Even Motorola Level 2 & 3 Tech support could not resolve the problem. They wanted me to sent the device to them for more trouble shooting. I finally returned the device and reverse my upgrade. I suggest you do the same if haven't past the 30 days.

Ok so I've had the Nokia Lumia for 2 weeks now and I've just had a text from my network saying that I have almost used all of my 500mb data allowance already, stunned I rang Talkmobile up to find out that the phone has been using 3mb of data every second nearly!
I've now turned off the mobile internet in the settings to prevent a huge bill!
I don't understand this as its my work phone, so only use if for incoming emails really, and I'm always connected via WIFI at work and at home, so it seems to me that when the phone locks the WIFI automatically switches off and then runs on mobile data.
There are no settings to rectify this either.
Please check your allowances as this has used 487mb in 12 days!!!!!!
P.S After looking online it appears that either there is a bug or it's just the phone, but it disconnects the Wifi to save battery, meaning that it will run off mobile data occurring huge data consumption!!
Any one else noticed this, as some of my colleagues have this phone and the are on Orange and haven't noticed massive allowances.
It's a known problem...There isn't priority when wifi is on...So 3g collection is on top at the same time..

I never use Wifi and have a 1GB dataplan... I'm updating my apps, listen to mp3 streams, 3 email accounts, sometimes watching youtube videos, surfing the web, using live tiles... in short words i have a heavy data usage...
But never used more than 600-700Mb in 30 days...
There was/is a bug with specific mail accounts (think it was yahoo), I'm not sure if it is fixed... But 500Mb in 12 days seems to high to me...
BTW i like the fact that it's disconnects WiFi when locking the screen, else it would eat up my batteries in 4 hours...
Maybe MS should provide a option for active WiFi under the lock screen... but I
personally wouldn't use it...

THis is getting annoying..
I use a lot an app called whatsapp and i discovered that when i put the lockscreen the wifi go in standby too (also if the is no 3g where i live) and i dont recive any notification from whatsapp.
Once i reeneter the phone then i get all messages also back from 2 hours.
I cannot stay there every 5 minutes to check if a message arrives and with all my preovious android phone this wasnt a problem cause wifi was never off with lockscreen so i could still be in the world.
If this is a big issue i think this wp wont live much in my hands. 2 days i liked a lot but cant live with this ms decision..sort of nonsense, at least they should have putted an option where WE decide.
Sad sad.

I found out that WiFi stays connected if you disable "data connection"...
I disabled data connection to save battery over night but had wifi enabled (with knowing it would disable automatically as soon as the phone locks) - but in the morging i had 6 new emails and an emtpy battery so wifi must have been on all night...
SWith all the questions around the preorders, I went ahead and paid the premium to buy the one the guy posted earlier that he bought from Gamestop in Denver.
MY QUESTION: What's the best utility to see if my unit has WiFi issues?
Your questions?
Use Wifi Analyzer.
You could use wi-fi analyzer to check the signal strength at different places in your house. Then compare it with another tablet while at the same places or, if you don't have another one, install inSSIDer on your laptop and redo the test at same places and note the difference in the amplitude of the signal from the router.
It doesn't seem to be a big problem based on what I had seen in the video posted earlier, even if you do have a wi-fi issue with the prime..

You do realize you're the only non-Taiwanese CUSTOMER to have a hold of this thing? Like, literally, the.only.one. Lucky bastard.
OK so using WiFi Analyzer, I've been trying to compare the signal to my Amazon Kindle (my only other tablet is an iPad 1). The good thing is, I live in a 50 story condo downtown and most of the routers in the building show the unit numbers so I can see how far away they are. Here are some results. Let me know if there is anything else I should try before updating the firmware:
Wifi Analyzer Test
Router in the same room:
Asus Transformer Prime (hands-off) -39 to -49 dBm
Asus Transformer Prime (hands-on) -40 to -56 dBm
Amazon Kindle: -46 dBm (no fluctuation)
Router one floor below:
Asus Transformer Prime (hands-off) -60 to -70 dBm
Asus Transformer Prime (hands-on) -59 to -65 dBm
Amazon Kindle: -54 to -58 dBm
Of note, on the Prime, the signal strength line graph looks like the Rocky Mountains while on the Kindle it's nearly flat as can be for the same WiFi points.

So I have started some speed testing using Speedtest.net and the Ookla android app. I seem to be having problem getting any kind of upload speed at all from the Prime when I'm two rooms away (about 50 ft and two concrete walls). Not having the same problem on the Windows 7 tablet or my phone (using the same app). I'll keep working on it.

none of my wifi devices would hold a connection from 50ft and two concrete walls.
But then again i haven't been very happy with the signal strength from my router.
So I have done quite a few WiFi tests today after the firmware upgrade. I noted yesterday that, while running WiFi Analyzer, the signal strength was quite "spike-y" compared to my Kindle Fire - although high and low values still averaged out about the same as the Fire. Today, I've spent a lot of time trying to normalize speed tests by changing wireless channels, disabling tasks and testing from various distances.
The results are quite strange. With the Kindle Fire and my android phone running the Speedtest.net app the range of speeds and pings across 20 tests were +/- 15%. The Transformer Prime, however, seems to get widely varying results - from download/upload lows of 780/35 kbps to a highs of 3220/860 kbps (compared to the high of 2260/820 kbps before the firmware upgrade) and just about every range of results in between. Even more unusual was that the test failed to connect to the network several times and I had to reset the Prime.
Tests from further away (about 50 feet, two rooms and two concrete walls) really improved after the firmware upgrade but were equally inconsistent. Still the average was 1187/510 kbps with about the same number of failed tests.
It's hard to really point to these results as anything definitive because there are so many possible points of interference and variance. But it does seem like there is a problem with my unit -- enough so that if it continues, I would likely exchange for another once the fix was shipped.
What is the speed of your internet connection? Thanks too, BTW.

I don't think it will, you have to pick what device you want the app to download to when you're on the market. So it will not go unless you pick it or install it manually.

When you are doing a test you need to make sure that the little icon is flashing in the notification area if it is not then change your performance mode and do not touch the screen afterwards this is why you loose a lock! I can navigate for 2 hours without loosing a lock! But if I touch the screen (check email anything) I instantly loose the lock (This appears to me to be a tegra 3 powersaving feature as the GPS is a power vampire) I can drive for 2 hours and constantly keep a lock on 7-11 satellites
lockups+ reboots
( I have no idea why you have issues)
Unkown serial numbers
Seems like someone forgot to input your serial number before boxing it up
Just thought I would post this feel free to put in your own input on these issues

Worst thread ever you fail lockup issues are 100% out of users control and has nothing to do with apps if your going to make a thread like this at least know what your talking about. I won't even waste my breath about the GPS
My own take on the reasons people are having these issues:
Wifi
You're not holding it properly...hold it over your head with your left hand.
GPS
You're not pointing it directly at the satellites.
lockups+ reboots
You only paid $500 for the darned thing...you want it working? That'll cost you at least $1000!!!!
Unknown serial numbers
It's a tablet..not a PC. You can't expect it to remember everything, can you???
Just trying to throw a little humour in.
wow.... just... wow!
I hardly know how to respond. I thought by the title of your thread that you were referring to HARDWARE differences between units. As in why some get crappy GPS performance, and others get HORRENDOUS performance (or NO performance) There is OBVIOUSLY some hardware variance at play here, with the screen banding, ICS failures with Lockups and reboots. A good deal of those updates were done after cold boots, and some even did a Data Wipe/Reset before updating. How would "Bad apps" have caused issues there.
Asus has released an interesting mix of quality, and it's obvious that there are differences. Support has referred in several cases to "Older hardware revisions" but I have seen no Serial number confirmation or otherwise to back that up.
Why is it you can get a lock, and keep it with GPS:
"GPS

when I can not GET a lock? I can, and have done a Data reset, and tested with a) Just Honeycomb 3.2 and b) Just ICS. NO OTHER INSTALLED SOFTWARE. Clear sky, middle of a 9 acre FLAT park with clear views of horizon. I get 2, and sometime 3 satellites of maybe 7-9 to lock, for a spit second, then they lose it. This is with the unit fully charged, powered, and in "Performance Mode" (what used to be "Standard" in Honeycomb) no other apps running.
What do you think the difference COULD be? It's not "bad apps" I will tell you that much.
EDIT: Almost forgot. This is not how to resolve issues:
Wifi
You need to change your router settings just play around with it until you get better performance
Sure you can tune for better performance, but why should you HAVE TO? All my other devices require no such tuning, they work fine out of the box!

you're an idiot for thinking i'm going to change my wifi settings to get "better performance"
you're even more of an idiot for thinking i'm going to hack every router i connect to (including my school) to make sure their router is optimized for my TFP

opss did not mean to thank you but anyways your school would not be brodcating on the wireless n network unless you go to a super advanced private school!

Reboots, crashes can very much be an apps issue. I had a very smooth TFP, which suddenly started misbehaving.
I was pretty frustrated as well, however I started doing my research, for e.g. I went into running apps and could see my available ram drop after boot (from 300 mb used, 700 free to around 700 mb used). By eliminating apps one by one, I got to the culprit and deleted it. Things were soon back to normal. Some apps just haven't been updated to work properly on ICS and that's that. However, if there are crashes off of a fresh install, then thats different.

no, i go to a normal school, they brodcast g and n, the signal in most areas is average, some really good, and some very poor. i only have good speeds when im close to the routers around campus, if i don't have excellent reception, its snail speed..yet my phone right next to it can connect fine with primo speeds

You have a valid point....but mine will do it after a complete wipe clean stock factory reset.....with 0 apps loaded.

You need to change your router settings just play around with it until you get better range usually you need to disable the wireless N function It may also be for you like the second replacement the andand tech guys got where their apple AP was interfering with the prime... after having reboot issue after upgrading to ICS, I sent my prime back to ASUS via RMA. After almost 4 weeks of sitting a in a waiting status they finally update my status to ready for shipping. There was one small change the serial number changed to one that starts with a C. I originally had on of the BK serial numbers. Im assuming they are just switching out my prime and the reason why I had to wait so long was for stock to show up. Anyone know anything about the primes with the serial numbers that start with C. I hope it doesnt have any wifi or BT problems let alone the ICS update problems.
That's from the newer batch. I got one too. Everything works great with mine, except for Wi-Fi and GPS. A few others posted that their C1's run perfectly, no issue with Wi-Fi or GPS. Hope yours is like theirs.

Ummm.. they probably couldnt fix your original one so they got you a new one from a new batch. From what I read getting one from this batch are slightly better than the previous ones, but then you have some that still crappy C1s. But I also heard one member just got a C1 batch that already had ICS installed and a bigger microfiber cloth (cant confirm it yet cause noone else has confirmed). Pretty much youll have to test it out yourself... It should work good if Asus directly shipped one to you.
My c1 works quite a bit better than my bcs. Wifi works great and everything runs smooth. I am very happy with it.

I have a c1. Just bought the only one that came in at best buy today. Wifi works good unless I'm over 20 feet from a router and then speeds plummit way way down. Sad thing is my 3g phone geta faster speeds than my prime hooked up to wifi from 30 feet away. I think people reporting no issues with c1 aren't testing their wifi signal strength from any distance other than close to the router. If their are people getting fast speeds from significant distances, what makes their unit perform better than ones that don't perform well? Can't be software as were all running the same stuff. So it must be a hardware issue then?
I wonder if it takes awhile they just give u new one. Its been about 18 days and no change in status.
I'm at 21 days and still showing "waiting for parts"... I'm sure theyre just going to mail new a different unit.. I guess parts are new systems. lmao

Don't get your hopes up too high....I have a C1 Prime, and I'm exchanging it as soon as Staples gets it in stock, it has major issues with the Sleep of Death.
That is really poor service that it takes that long to replace a tablet. If they know they need to replace it, then that should only take a couple days not weeks.

I don't get fast speeds from a distance, but it is good enough for my use, anyway I have I good wireless AP placed centrally in my relatively small house...
So I am satisfied.

Agreed, at this point it would be prudent for them to just replace the defect unit and send a new one. Then spend time fixing the other and sell as refurbished, would help to get their RMA times down drastically.
i will send my asus prime to them for black screen issue. so i guess i will wait for 1 month
