[Q] Silly question?!?!? Can I make an application debuggable without root? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I'm guessing that the answer to my question is "you can't you fool!" but I wanted to ask anyway.
Is there any way to make an application debuggable without having a rooted device and without having access to the actual code itself.
As I was writing this I realized that there is another possible "solution" can I make an application debuggable on a rooted device and then somehow move that application onto a non-rooted device?
Thanks!

It is absolutely not possible for non-rooted devices as far as I know. By rooting, you will attain privileged control over the device that you are using. This attainment makes it possible to make an application debuggable in a rooted device.
I ask a simple question: What don't you root?
You will love your device after rooting.
Instead of looking impossible solutions for non-rooted device, you can root your device and start debugging in it.

Well maybe I should have asked another question because this device was rooted but I lost root in an OTA update. I didn't want to go back to rooting it because of loosing all of my settings but my feeble mind just remembered that unlocking the boot loader is the part that wipes the device (right?) so I should be able to re-root the device.
Any good articles I should read on re-rooting after loosing it due to an OTA update? (Other than just googling for stuff. )

After you root your device and unlock boot loader, download any advanced root App manager (Ultimate Backup/ ROM Toolbox) and freeze Software Update (2 apps in Samsung). It will never bother to notify and never OTA update.

[Q] Converse of USB jig

If there is a USB jig to reset the s2's counter to zero, couldn't someone make a jig that rooted it? (I'm probably revealing that I haven't a clue why my new USB jig works.)

Who's a troll?
I'm well aware of what converse means.
To avoid immature replies, I made a point to warn the reader that I didn't understand how USB jigs did their magic. My point was: once, one had to use software and some (minimal) effort to return a rooted gizmo to a state that didn't void the warranty. Now, we can use a jig and, voila! a virginal-appearing phone.
So, by analogy, maybe a different sort of thingamajig could do the rooting for those of us who only want root in order completely to control our S2s and not to flash custom ROMs, etc.
Clearer?

Still not what converse means.
But to answer your question, no, because I believe regardless of what method you use to root, you need to push a file (called "su") to your phone to get superuser access. You need a copy of this file somewhere, so you'd need a computer at some point.
Hmmmf. I really was hoping for some instant root. By the way, are you thinking of the other meaning of converse (to discuss)?

No. If A implies B, then the converse is that B implies A.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Converse_(logic)
EDIT: I should also clarify; there are several root methods that do the copying of the "su" file for you. The zergRush method has it totally scripted out for you. Super easy.

I'm going to be kind here and simply say no.
If you don't understand why, you shouldn't be messing with your phone in the first place and should stick to running stock/getting your firmware updates from Kies.

If you think that using a Jig on a rooted device will turn it back to a virginal state then you are wrong. With the correct bootloader it will reset the custom firmware counter but the device remains rooted until you flash a stock kernel.

VROOT - When can we expect an update to root the new 257 update?

As the title says, when can we expect root access using VROOT for our devices?
I know there are ways around it but it involves wiping/formatting data and reverting to the old firmware.
For those who have locked bootloaders and do not wish losing data and formatting, when can we expect a simple click & root method?
Ps. I'm gutted I updated to the latest 257 update. I don't see any major differences at all. Worst of all I've lost root and I'm not prepared to gain root access with current solutions...
Thanks xda deveoper users.

Well i'm not expecting anything soon. even DoomL0rd hasn't found the workaround. I was prepared though, so i moved the Titanium Backup data and restore them all (the games) and then backup them again with Helium app. So if you like to try, please use Helium app to do backup and then do the alternate root method. It will make it easier for you.

You don't need to wipe any data when reverting, upgrading.
Bad news guys, vRoot has been confirmed as an imei harvester, I'd get it off your systems ASAP.

back up your TA partition
then unlock your bootloader
start using custom roms like CM, AOKP, Paranoid etc...
I did the unlock the bootloader and installed the ROM Aur ver 3.7...
I heard it can make the superior auto mode runs on 20mpix.... how to do it... thanks

You can accomplish this under any ROM as long as you have the Xposed framework installed. Search for the module "20MP SuperiorAuto", install and enable it and then reboot.

I just posted in this thread. the 20mp auto (enabled through the xposed mod) is not better quality than the 20mp manual.

If you want the 20mp, set it to manual, centre weighted exposure. Auto white balance is pretty good for most situations.
If you just rooted the phone and haven't jumped to a non-stock ROM, then there's a small laundry list I did:
-Install F-Droid and Adaway
-Install Xposed framework
-Install Greenify
-Install Titanium Backup
-Use Titanium Backup to backup and uninstall bloat system apps (like "What's New")
Root opens up a lot more freedom for the phone. Xposed in particular is fantastic for changing just about anything.
Newbies should know, you don't need to unlock your bootloader to have fun. Root and try the xposed mods.

Yep it's unlocking the bootloader that voids your warranty, and unless you wish to install a custom kernel based rom is unnecessary.
One of the reasons I used to root ( not anymore, I'm kinda bored) was to install Dsploit and wifikill to have some fun with unsecured WiFi networks.
Add adblock, titanium backup. Bloat freeze (Sony phones have the least).
Have some themes.

I hope you did a TA backup before you unlocked your bootloader otherwise you have lost your DRM keys which is not reversible.
Beyond that I hope you enjoy your new Z2!

[E2303] Unroot without full firmware flashing - possible?

Hi.
I'm fighting for some time with the Sony E2303 (Xperia M4 Aqua) where the manufacturer has applied (horror of horrors!) only 8GB of memory...
Unfortunately for the user is available less than 2GB which is absurd nowadays!
I tried to use Adaptive storage on my micro sd card but 1) apps run very slowly (facebook) and 2) few apps can be moved like this.
To get each MB of memory I reflect on the performance of the root to remove the software preinstalled by Sony. It is not even branded to the operator because the soft installed is Central Europe.
It's about removing applications that do not use, and which occupy a lot of space (the effect of AR, spotify, playstation, etc). Root would allow me I think to uninstall such software.
However, after uninstalling the applications I would go back to the situation before the root account by doing unroot.
I think the root of this model is mainly based on the change the recovery. Is it possible to return to the stock recovery without full flashing?
Thanks in advance,
BR, Michael.
No, I am afraid that's not possible. There's no way to do it without having to flash the firmware. However, try using the Xperia Companoin or move to sd card feature to make a backup.

You can unroot by flashing stock boot.img, but TWRP will stay there. So you would only lose SuperSU.
And if u use Sony Companion, make sure to relock bootloader before repairing software or you may brick your device.

Can anybody will help me to unlock the bootloader?

but when I try to do this by fastboot then the command is not executed:
I tried on three different machines with Windows 10/Windows 7 and MacOS without success. Always is the same.
I'll be very graceful for help.

Hi.
Thanks for interest.
This option is ON as debugging USB.
I tried with the manual from Sony but still I can't execute this command
Case solved.
I reflash the phone using flashtool and Central Europe 1 firmware.
After that I could execute the command oem unlock but only without "-i 0x0fce".
All done.
Thanks.

How do I root a Verizon Galaxy s4?

The videos in the sticky are incorrect or defunct. Many of the required files that these videos link to are broken links and the video near the top telling how to root a verizon s4 is false. The files this guy links to are blocked by Google Drive because they are "infected" according to Google Drive
I am not sure why XDA Developers are stickying videos with links to infected files. But there seems to be no other videos on rooting Galaxy s4 and I do not want to use KingRoot because it is potentially spyware.
I prefer something using TWRP and Odin.
So what is the real way of rooting an s4?
I am preparing to be passed an s4 myself... I've so far found some instructions, but will not try anything until I hold the device, of course... https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/jfltevzw/install
I hope I don't have to jump through too many hoops...
After a small amount of searching, it seems that if the phone ever took an ota upgrade, it will be impossible to bypass the locked boot loader... I've got my fingers crossed... But not too hopeful.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=63848199
Use the "old method" if you don't want to use Kingroot. The application only had a 5 day trial, so just keep that in mind.

You're right (it's been awhile since I had this device). Just saying the probability of finding one that has not been updated is next to nothing.
Turns out the phone is tmobile... And I don't seem to be acquiring it.
I have a way!
I just rooted my Verizon s4 with kingoroot not kingroot and then switched the kingoroot superuser app out with SuperSu and uninstalled all the kingoroot app stuff. I posted a step by step guide of how I did it on this forum. You can click on my name and click on my posts and it should show up I will try to paste a link here.
