Help downgrading - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

I really need help downgrading I lose my Imei no matter what I do. I have tried downgrading without changing baseband from. 290 and tried putting. 290 baseband on top of a different Sony tom. Have tried. 257, .532,. 510 and yet it doesn't work for any of them. I have tried all the methods in the downgrading and restoring Imei guide and none work.

This would be better in the guide thread so that if a solution is found it is easy for others to find.
Why do you need the radio working? do you want to stay on an old firmware?

I probably won't stay on an older firmware but I want to be able to have radio signal if I downgrade then upgrade on a different day

Need help new to Android

Hi guys
I'm a noob when it comes to android and rooting. I wanted to know if I root my x10i can I go back to standard firmware if needed? And can I keep timescape?
I'm from South Africa and we have not received any firmware updates. I tried debranding and didn't like all the extra stuff I got in the install so I went back to my old firmware. If I root what happens to firmware updates? I understand the benefits but as I said I'm new so I don't really know what to do with a rooted phone.
Thanks any feed back will be appreciated

you can keep what you what and restore to unroot state .... but if you are new to android or linux DONT root you can bring the os to an unbootable state....
Is there no way back if I brick it?
How can I get enough info to know what to do. I'v neva used linex.b4

After rooting, you can go back to standard firmware the same way you did it after debranding.
From my understanding, if you update firmware normally you'll lose root. Otherwise, you'd have to update to the newest 'rooted' firmware as posted on XDA if you want to update.
Thanks man that really clarified alot. Do u think its worth it if I go for a root for the time being since there's no updates in my country
Thanks guys

If your firmware is really old (click left button>settings>About phone and read the build number at the very bottom, if it ends in 14 or 16 it is the older firmware) It seems worth it to update. Though apparently, the newest root method version (gives you firmware ending in 023) doesn't seem to be the best in battery life. You may want to stick with the link for 'OLD VERSION 1' in the guide (the link's crossed out, but you can still click it to download the files) that will give you firmware ending in 020 which I think gives better battery life.
Only prob is, flashing causes all your settings and apps to go away. So backup your messages and contacts and things. Your SD card doesn't get wiped, but the phone does.
I do have r14, that's y I wanted the update cz I know that 23 is out in other countries. I'll try the root and save my old files so that I can revert if I have a problem later on.
And in case off bricking is there a way to undo it?
Thanks

Real 'bricking' means the device is DEAD.
I had a problem where my phone gave an exclamation mark logo when booting, and thats all it did. I went through debranding (reflashing) again, and it worked after. So I guess if you get stuck, just reflash.
Ok great, as long as I can fix it if there's a problem I'll try it. Anyway thanks a lot. I really appreciate all the help and the quick replies. There's alot of stuff I still don't understand but I'll check the other posts if I don't get anything I'll put something up.
Thanks again

Wish CosmicXperia Can Ported for New BaseBand

I have seen alot Old Baseband Based Rom.zzzzz Only Ciaox and some others are using new baseband. I dun wanna flash back to old baseband, its kinda risky. ZZZZ
It should be easy to switch back to the old baseband if you did it already to upgrade. Just follow instructions exactly and you should be fine. If the developers don't want or have time to make their ROM compatible with the new baseband, they shouldn't have to. They have worked long days to provide us polished products and the least we can do is to not nag them to do something. Shouldn't take long just go back to the old baseband.
TY
Yeah, Kinda Risky To Go Back Old Baseband
Its simple and easy to shift baseband ..
Follow one rule to avoid bricking --never pull out battery whatsoever happens while changing baseband ..in d past week i have changed my baseband more than 35-50times ..its just a 2min process...
And making a v10 rom run on v20 is almost impossible so better change yur baseband else dont hope

Just use the mik's patch for newer baseband if you want to use CosmicXperia. I am currently using the patch, just to test and get the feel of it and it works perfectly.
Well unless you want 3G/data. which hasn't yet fixed. But anyways you can use wifi.
It's a good thing I still have the old baseband. But I do wanna try other roms for the new baseband too. Thanks for the link.

Two questions about radio and firmware

Morning
I think a has to update my radio to use some custom ROMs...
Which is the latest update radio?!
Does the latest radio automatically accept all custom Roms, or do the custom roms needs specific radio's?!
What is a firmware?!
Do I need to update this too?1
If yes, which is the latest firmware?!
Some question here: last firmware accept all custom roms, or do the custom roms need specific firmware?!
Thanks
Hello.
I see you need some help. I will try to answer your questions the best I can. Radios are part of firmware. Firmware is the software that governs your data and voice signal. It is best always have your firmware up to date. As a matter of fact. Most current roms require this latest firmware to work. Depending on whether your cdma or gsm. Some roms are not dependent on a specific carrier like sprint. Most are. All cdma roms are either virgin mobile or sprint. Gsm is a little confusing as there are many different firmware for different countries. To find these firmwares look through yhe stickies in the cdma dev or gsm dev section depending if you are cdma or gsm. Never flash a gsm firmware or rom with cdma or else you will brick your phone and vice versa. Take the time and look and read about a rom you are interested in. i cant tell you how much trouble you will save if you read through things carefully. if you have anymore questions. Feel free to ask. By the way, the latest radio for cdma ics is 1.09.00.0706. You'll find that in the dev section. There is a thread with just the firmware radios you are looking for.
Thanks a lot man! I've forget to say, that I'm using a gsm device... Lives in Germany, if its important...
So if I understood right, its enough to flash the latest firmware, right?!
I don't have to flash radio and firmware, right?!
Just flashing firmware, cause radio is in the firmware ha?! Ok, thanks man!!!
Ps: I know, I have the baddest english here ^^
No problem sir. Hey don't sweat it. Even some americans seem to have bad english sometimes. Lol

Yes
... with Tapatalk 2
Yes, you will get an entirely stock phone that way tho... no root, no s-off, no custom recovery... so in order to get a custom rom you will have to wire trick it

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1676276 (the link to the newest firmware is at the top of the second post)
flashing firmware should not interfere with your data.
making a backup wouldn't hurt, but it's really not necessary
to install:
you take the PG86IMG.zip you will download and put it onto your sdcard
boot the phone into bootloader (power and vol-down)
at this point it will parse through the zip, so wait a bit, after a while it asks you if you want to apply the update, if i remember correctly u should press vol-up (whichever one accepts the update) from here, just let it finish installing and don't turn it off untill it's done
when it's done, boot up to system and remove PG86IMG.zip from your sdcard so it doesn't try to flash it everytime.
that's it you're done.
hope this helps
Thanks a lot, I'll give it a try
Some custom roms stuck in bootloop ( kingkobra, cool ics etc)
Hope a firmware update will help...

You should read carefully in Custom ROMs thread, you will find the ROM and also the needed firmware to flash with. You should not try other firmwares if not

[Q] Generic UK 4.0.4 Qwerty question XMP

Hello, I'm currently using an SK17i, it's been debranded from Orange using Wotanserver. It's currently sim unlocked too. I want to keep it as stock as possible but I'm fed up of Gingerbread since using my smooth as silk N7.
I want to put 4.0.4 (or latest/smoothest) on it without messing with the bootloader (which can be unlocked) or root if possible.
Also, are there battery issues running 4.0.4 on older hardware like this?
I've still got a few credits with Wotan but the latest they have for UK phones is 2.3.4, would it be safe to use a generic FW from a different part of the world, or more plainly, a 'Generic world version' with it working with my internet settings.

It would be a lot harder to do this if you were willing to root. I would try this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1568792
Also try the rooting guides in the General section if you decide to go that way.
If you have more questions, you should probably post into one of the guides or into Q&A.

Best modem for LS990 on Marshmallow?

AlwaysLucky said:
I've been using the ZVC modem without actual problems, but i remember the 3G and 4G data being more stable, WiFi faster at connecting, and the GPS fixing faster.
Just to clear things up can anyone confirm if:
- The modem impacts any/all of these things? If so, which ones and why?
- The best modem to use for a Marshmallow ROM?
Notes: I rooted from ZV4 and have been using the supplied modem zips from @engine95. I also update my PRL regularly.

And there in lies the problem.
We aren't able to use KK modems on Lollipop. So I'm surprised we can use Lollipop modems on marshmallow.
Some say all the L modems are the same. But they definitely work differently. ZVC seeming to be the best for most.
It's easy enough to flash and change modems. Just update profile/prl each time afterwards.
The rpm,tz partitions make it even more confusing. ZV4 ones seeming to be best. They can be flashed along with the modem also. But any other than ZV4 seem to cause random reboots and freezes.
Remember, our bootloader isn't truely unlocked. So the way we update doesn't include all the upgraded partitions. We only update modem, kernel, ROM. Rpm,tz partitions are optional.
That's probably also why people are having issues because they are rooting ZV8-C and get all the other partitions which don't work well for us. But to each his own.
I tried rooting ZVC and had to many issues. Went back to ZV4, and everything works as it should.
I haven't tried M yet and probably won't until it's official. Or not. I'm fine with L. So I can't really answer any of your other questions.
