[Q] S-off Firmware update - HTC Rezound

I need to update the HBoot and Radio's on my Rezound. I'm HTC Unlocked, Rooted running Tachyon, and just did the rumrunner S-off. After reading through several post, I got so confused. If I am correct I need to re-lock then flash the Ph98img file in HBoot, or in recovery? Then I have to un-lock. Do I have to re-root, or restore my latest nandroid. Every post that starts off about being s-off ends up about how to do it while s-on.
Can someone please give me a step by step guide?
Thank you!

I have a downgrade upgrade guide...follow that and you'll be on latest radios and hboot...the last 2 ph98img files are hboot 2.27 and 2.28 which is the latest

You don't have to do anything but flash the PH98IMG.zip if you're s-off, no need to lock or unlock anything.
To just update the hboot/radios, you can flash the last PH98IMG.zip in REV3NT3CH's guide.
Back your rom up to your SD card to be safe of course.

[Q] hboot and new firmware question

I am going to flash the new ICS leak (build number 3.14.605.5) in hboot. after i do that, do i have to flash the new stock 2.25 hboot from superchilpills post here? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1614366
any help clarifying that would be great. i am s-off and I have been flashing roms and everything just fine, the only thing I am still a little unsure about is the hboot thing. any help would be great, thanks a lot guys
If your going to do a full ruu then running the 2.25 hboot I have posted is redundant
My suggestion is if you want to stick with the ruu and not a custom Rom then just ruu
If you want to retain the Rom you are on then only flash the one I have posted as it won't affect what Rom you are running

Hey guys, I have a similar question, but just want to be explicitly clear. I am S-OFF but then ran the full RUU for the newest 3.14, so my hboot is now the 2.25. It's not allowing me to flash back a custom recovery, so I presume I have to revert the hboot to 2.21 at least. Is it as simple as following your post posted above, downloading the ICS 2.21 hboot, renaming, and flashing in bootloader? thanks
EDIT: Nevermind, didn't notice at first it had relocked after running the RUU. Successfully re-unlocked, then pushed recovery like normal. Back in business.

A few ?'s Juopunut bear S-OFF AND NOT ROOTED

I know I have probably came across the answer BUT I just want to double triple check before doing anything. I tend to look to deep into things and make it harder than it needs to be. SO PLEASE DO NOT BE RUDE!
HBOOT:

HTC AMAZE
RUBY PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT- 1.93.2222

1) I am on gingerbread. S-OFF but not rooted. I have a T-mobile OTA update for ICS. Can I download safely?
What I was going to do is just download that and un-root it the same way I did when doing the S-OFF process. Can't it just be that easy!
2) If not is this the correct way that will work with JUOPUNUT bear?

4) Boot into bootloader and apply the update

6) Flash the CWM 5.5.0.4 recovery in fastboot (fastboot flash recovery *****.img)
7) Flash the Superuser package in recovery to gain root
3) If #2 is a yes then I lock HBOOT even though it is Juopunut Bear, using Hasoon2000's all in one kit? OOORRR does JuopuntBear's S-OFF method automatically do that?
OR stop looking so deep into it. Root it as gingerbread, flash recovery, download rom (after wiping...LOL)

You have two options:
1. Restore the stock recovery and proceed with the update, it won't do anything but update the system files, it may or may not remove the JB hboot, though I recommend you restore the stock GB hboot since updates tend to cancel when the hboot is higher than the one being installed, which the JB hboot version is set higher so as to prevent any new updates from over writing it.
or
2. Download the stock ICS ruu from the ruu/ota thread and install it via hboot by renaming the file PH85IMG and placing it on your sd card.
No reason to get suspicious, it's okay.

Ok sooo.... Bare with me please...
I locked the bootloader.
HBOOT is now 1.90.2005.
I flashed an OTA/RUU after that, and renamed it to PH85IMG (did not add .zip just an easy r click rename). It went through the upload/download (whatever ya wanna call it!) In hboot
Rebooted aaanddd I am still on GB
I used the OTA from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1575550&highlight=stock+ics+ruu and followed the 2nd post for the leaked ota....
I AM missing something. Somewhere down the line. Or wrong RUU? Suggestions? I am going to be back tomorrow to work on this.
Thanks again guys

If you're s-off you don't need to lock the bootloader, anyways, don't use that file, look for the ruu/ota collection thread in tue dev forum for the latest file, rename it, make sure it's on the root of your sd card.

I FINALLY got it ... Thanks guys for your help!

[Q] Get bootloader unlocked and I already have S-OFF

Hey! A while ago I rooted my phone using the revolutionary method. Later I reverted back to stock and locked the bootloader. However the S-OFF remained. A few minutes ago I had 1.53 HBOOT and ICS stock. But now I got HBOOT 1.49.0007 and I wanna use revolutionary tool to unlock bootloader yet again. But now it gives me an error saying, "Failed to get root! "
Is there another way to get rooted WITHOUT using the HTC method since I already got S-OFF and 1.49.0007 HBOOT? I don't feel comfortable using HTC's method....

I think the "Failed to get root!" message is because HTC patched the tacoroot exploit in the ICS builds that was being used for temp root with the GB builds.
Why do you want to unlock the bootloader? If you want to run the additional fastboot commands you should be able to just flash the JBear version of the current bootloader, or does that cause problems on the GSM model?
ramjet73
Since you are S-OFF you can flash whatever bootloader you want. I don't know revolutionary method, I was using jbear to get S-OFF. After S-OFF i flashed RUU and I was on stock 1.53.007 locked bootloader with S-OFF and i couldn't root my phone. I've flashed hboot from this site:
http://unlimited.io/jbhboots.htm
There you have 2 versions of GSM Evo 3d hboots. After that you can do everything with your phone. Good luck!

I contacted unlimited.io's support in the IRC and downloaded the ICS HBOOT - 1.53.5353 and flashed that. Now it seemes to work!
Anyway, thanks for your answer! If they wouldn't have responded then you would have been my savior!
Okay, problem number two.... I have flashed CWM now and I installed Super User inside recovery mode but I don't get root access? I downloaded the signed package from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1991929
Any ideas?
I have tried to repair premissions after the install of Super User. I have also updates Super User from Market after Install due to force close after the fresh install from CWM

Follow method B (steps 1 to 14 if you want to be on rooted stock) and it should be ok. If I remember correctly, there is a 4ext recovery to download, maybe try this one. Good luck!

Becoming S-Off once rooted

I used HTCdev to unlock the bootloader, to root it, and i have installed TWRP 2.3.3 recovery. I have HBOOT 2.09 right now too. I am currently running MeanBean 3.0 right now as my ROM. I am currently S-ON and want to know the proper way to go about S-OFF so i can flash the 3.16 firmware and update my radios and pri. What would be the correct steps now to S-OFF so I can do this?
The system requirements, necessary packages, and instructions are listed on the unlimited io website
Just follow these instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1964309

Stuck at bootloop after installing Viper3D rom

My phone gets stuck at bootloop after installing Viper3D. I did a ssytem wipe and installed the rom. Am I missing any steps like formating cache/dalvik? Rather, what are the correct steps since I can't seem to find any. My phone has hboot 1.5, unlocked, s-on, CWM 4.0.1.4

Couple things..
You need to be on hboot 1.58. You can do this by running the 2.89 RUU.
It will also help to get s-off and there's a complete guide on how to do this Here.
if I follow those instructions, would i be able to install the CyanogenMod 10.1? According to the thread, it says i must NOT have hboot 1.58 but I will gain that if I follow those instructions.
i followed the down and dirty instructions and was able to root my phone, have hboot 1.58, and have S-Off. Installed Viper3D with success. Thanks for the help.
Now my next question is...how do you down grade hboot 1.58 to 1.50?

Install the supported Hboot in the bootloader, which is 1.40 I believe.
simply rename the file to PG86IMG and put it in the root of your Sd card.
here is a list of the hboots
