Hey guys, we already know that the Xperia Z ultra is a beast, and in benchmarks its the second fastest phone going
But... what if you wanted it even faster?
I found this thread a while ago http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2546120
Its a qualacomm optimized patch that makes your phone run faster, its in the Nexus 4 thread BUT this was actually ported from the Moto X If im not mistaken, Could it work with our phones? I dont see why not, its a SD800...
Let me know if you go ahead and flash it and see a difference or if it only works on nexus's devices, again the Moto X isnt a nexus device...
Maybe it could worth if you have the GPE Z Ultra or the GPE Ultra Rom
J
I'm on it. Will report back soon.
EDIT: LOL, give me some more time. I just noticed that i don't have recovery installed. I'm on GPe so it'll only take a minute.
EDIT 2: Flashed and my Ultra still works. Running Antutu now.
EDIT 3: LOL. GPe doesn't seem to score well in Antutu, and i scored only 26000 points last week when i tried it. I tried it again after flashing the files, and guess what? 42000 points. Yes i'm joking, i got 25000, so i guess Sony have already used some newer bionic and dalvik libs (that thread is older than the GPe after all). Well, i'm reverting. It works though, so there's that.
Ah, that's a shame :/ at least they work !
What happens when your on gpe and you put art on instead of dalvik does it make a difference in benchmarks ?

Yeah, that matches about what I got. In performance settings I don't (Or rather, didn't) I notice an issue, so it must be something with how Antutu does things.
Alright, so i've spent the last three hours trying to revive my Ultra. After i wanted to revert the libs, i reflashed GPe as told in that thread, but what i forgot was that stock GPe doesn't include recovery (but the new tweaked version does), so my Ultra got stuck on the Sony logo, and i didn't have recovery. To make it worse, my computer wouldn't recognize it anymore, so i couldn't flash boot.img or anything. I struggled with drivers for three hours until i managed to flash boot.img and re-flash and wipe again. It's all fine again now, but do NOT touch those libaries unless you have an escape plan.

I tested them over the weekend as well, ended up with bootloops as well - thus I'm not on GPe any more
If you look in the benchmark thread I did some testing with the libs and it did sore higher:

The Red is 4.4.2 GPe on art with the bionic patch
Bootloops with the dalvik mod so not tested - required a full wipe to get working again
On the nexus 4 it get like extra 10k on antutu, maybe its only for the snapdragon s4 pro.

Did you even read my post, I showed tjat it scored 5k higher, that was a second run right after installing the mod so the ultra was getting quite warm by then. On a cold run I guess it would have got even better scores - didn't notice any difference in using the phone though
Is this all for the sake of benchmark scores? As in no noticeable increase in performance?

I didn't notice any difference in the hour or so I had the bionic mod installed, but it did increase the 3D score and floating point score so if you were using either of those alot I guess you may feel the difference?

I have been holding on and skipping devices that were/are really appealing to me(LG Pro, Oppo, Sony Xperia Z, etc) for the Note 3.
I was going to order the Xperia Z Ultra but thankfully I convinced my self otherwise. I'm not playing many games now days nor using it heavily.
Mostly for above average media consumption, light gaming, browsing.
Also as I said I was waiting for the Note 3 since the day Note 2 was announced I decided to skip a generation.
And thankfully I decided to skip the Note 3 for the Mega. I really wanna go even bigger this time. I don't mind the mid-range performance.
And since my original Note with Asylum 4.3 now feels so incredible(it felt good with custom JB 4.1.2 too), I can only imagine the Mega will blow my mind.
I got the Note 1 at launch and I paid for it quite dearly for it back then.
And today I got my Samsung MEGA(i9200). HOLY MOTHER OF GOD! I'm really in love with this device. The size, the screen, its sound quality are just... amazing!
I can't even remotely begin to explain how I feel about it. This IS really the device that ever wanted. This device in my hand(s) feels like home...
I'm using it for a couple hours now and I can tell you I wouldn't even think about trading it for a Note 3(for free yes as I could sell the Note3 and buy another Mega )
This is really my preferred size of a phone. But I can go down to 6" too if the N4 is released next year and its 5,9-6,0". The best device so far I ever owned.
I also stated that I can go up to 6" when I got my Note in previous post of mine. So I was kinda always wanted a phone this big,
Watched a few trailers, videos clip, youtube videos, listen to many songs. I can say the experience was amazing. I haven't played any games yet tho.
This phone is big. You cannot really how humongous it's unless you light up the screen. The you can understand how huge it is. But it doesn't feel THAT bigger than my Note tbh.
I think that sums things up for me. I haven't felt this excited for a phone since 21 months ago when I got my original Note. Really, really happy owner here.
P.S: I can test/check/confirm anything you guys might want. Like bugs(like dim bug), codes, camera firmware, glitches etc etc. Just let me know. :good:
Edit: I have FM Radio btw and its fully working.
Congrats! Could you run a movie on both Note and Mega and tell us what you think. I am particularly interested in comparing the brightness, and the blacks. And colors. If you could play a high bit rate action movie 720p and compare them smoothness that would be great too. Thanks!

I always compared my previous phones(when its possible to compare them anyway) to my new ones. I always test them with 1080p trailers of excellent quality.
I will do a side by side test with both devices playing various videos(big buck bunny, Sintel, Tekken Blood Vengeance, Hobbit, Avatar, Timescapes etc etc).
But I must be honest, I consider my self a true fan of the AMOLED screens and I love them and I swear by them, so I check the display differences extensively.
I always compare them side by side in:
benchmarks( doing a reboot first and then clearing RAM and closing every possible running up)
screen quality by playing same video with MX at the exact same settings on both devices and also by displaying both the same photo/image.
Camera quality by taking the exact same picture outdoors in qood sunlight conditions and tonight I will test the low light camera quality and view them on my pc.
And obviously the side by side size comparisons. lol.
And maybe a few more...

You will de-virginize(is that even a word) my Mega as you did with my Note...
Update on the battery life:
Its been 7 hours since the first fully charge and 32% remaining. 5 hours screen on time so far with 4h:44m WIFI on time.
Usage was(estimated unless said otherwise):
Around 30-40 Youtube videos(in HD).
Played 10-12 1080p videos I put from the PC for around maybe 20-25 minutes all total time of play time with the MX Player.
Run Antutu 4.0.1(19907) once.
Run 3DMark twice(5474).
Browsed the web with Chrome Beta for around 12 minutes as it say in the stats even tho I feel it was longer than that.
Took around 15 photos some with around 5 being with flash
Also spent a couple of minutes totally just looking at the screen. That thing is huge!

Agreed! Love it!
Update: Rooted today(from here) and updated with XXUAMH1(SILENTLIGHT Rom found here).
This AMH1 release feels and IS faster. I can swear the apps at least feels that open up faster.
In general the phone feels noticeably smoother.
Also my score in 3DMark went from 5147 to 5506. Antutu from 19500 to 20500.
And no, it felt faster all day long. I just run the synthetic test like 15min ago. So I didn't had that in mind to cause a placebo effect or anything.
Congrats koniakki on getting the mega and you are going to enjoy it, i ran Antutu on a stock rom yet, and phone is only rooted at this time and i got a score of 20662..imagine when some custom roms come out for this phone it could have a better score yet..enjoy your new phone.

Thanks for the reply starmaster and welcome to the Mega community too! My best on the Antutu 4.0.1 was around 20500! So well done! :good:
Quadrant was about 7250-7300 my best. Can't remember exactly but was about there. Bring the custom roms/kernels. Our Snappy has a lot of headroom for improvements!
Also starmaster, what I like also is when I compare that score along with the Note 2 or Xperia Z in the Rankings!
Forsure and the scores are very close to those two phones and the mega beats both of those two other phones in the 3D Graphics gaming category i see..now bring on the custom roms. :good:
Edit: I just ran Quadrant on my mega 6.3 and got a score of 8570.

Either your CPU is a racehorse or something is off!! lol!
You got 5000 points more in the CPU score and 2000 points in the I/O score! Did you apply any kind of tweaks? I'm very interested.
No.. i have no tweaks in the phone at all, it is just rooted and that is all, maybe my model i527m is a little different in ways and in the info is says 1.7 GHz cpu and it is a Qualcomm snapdragon and the Adreno 305, maybe i got lucky and got a really good phone..but everything is stock except the rooting part.
Below is a pic of my device info.
And i just re-ran Quadrant again and got even a higher score of 8664..not sure why i am getting these good scores but i like it.

Hmm. I re-run the benchmark with all the available Governors/Schedulers combination allowed via CPU Master and I cannot pass 7300 points.
Anyone else with a i9200 Mega can run Quadrant please and post their best score please?
If other members with i9200 get the same as me, maybe we can find why starmaster10 scores are so high and find a way to get that performance too! :good:

or maybe your kernel has tweaks to boost performence or something like that

I did another run with Quadrant and my score went up again to 8772...I am kinda puzzled on the scores that I am getting.

Don't get us wrong starmaster10, we are really happy for you that you get that performance. I hope that yo can even get 9000! :good:
We are just trying to figure out how to get that too and see if a kernel/rom or simply the I527M version of the Mega is just faster or better optimized!
The differences are in the CPU and I/O which are 5000 and 2000 points faster respectively. I hope someone more knowledgeable can enlighten us, since it will benefit us all to make our devices even faster!
P.S: Starmaster10, if not much trouble, can you please post some scores from the latest Antutu from the Play Store? Thanks!
Hey I have recently flashed the gpe 4.4.2 for xperia z ultra and I have benchmarked and found my phone is under what it is meant to be (i was using antutu) it Is sitting under the s4 and is meant to be above all but the note 3. I am at factory clock and I have 1.2g of ram free and I don't understand why it is not..well as powerful as it should be.
No background processes were running at the time. It got a score of 24712 and its meant to have something in the 3000 mark
Not sure where you have been but that is normal for the current 4.4 roms for the Ultra. If you want 35k scores you need to be on 4.3 Sony or wait longer to see if it gets up there.
I have not seen other benchmarks so it would be interested to see if it is only one Benchmark showing this decrease or if it is all.
I am sure someone will come up cry benchmarks are useless etc...and if it is one then sure, but if all of them are reporting loses, it doesnt take a genius to realize there is indeed decrease performance.
Now if you can or cant tell it on daily usage that is another story.
So yeah, I would love to see other scores reported. Like on Note 2 I recall my 3Dmark scores were always higher with CM roms but of course, different phones and Roms under development.
Here we go again...

I am asking for whoever got over 42000 to let us know which ROM did he used and what Kernel version. Also if it is possible the performance of the battery under that specific ROM.
Thanks

benchmarks arent a indication of how fast a rom feels
try some roms and see what you like the feel of
and yes performance under battery is posible, just depends on your rom config and your personal root user settings for some things

I don't know what those 2 words after "stock" mean, but yeah. When you fresh install the stock ROM, is it debloated and deodexed on its own? Or are those some seperated complicated processes that I have to do? Like debloating the ROM first and then deodexing it or deodexing the ROM first and then debloating it. Yeah?
He's saying not to deodex. Your best thing to do is take stock rom, root it, debloat it (twitter, Facebook and whatever else, there's a thread about bloat here somewhere). If you don't know what odex is do not touch it, for the most part you only want to deodex if you need to modify the framework.
I did try a antutu benchmark, but each time was different, so the score is not all
Liquid smooth is by far the fastest operating ROM I've ever used on any device. Transitions happen so fast it's like apps are slapping you in the face! As far as processing things, that's always going to be the same on any ROM.

Hi guys, I need some help,
I have been using Xperia Z2 for the past 8 months and during this time the phone performed well but recent times its starting to give me a lot of problems; The screen had a problem and got it fixed and now I have a huge problem. The phone overheats like crazy when used more than say 10mins straight. It could be a call, messenger, video or camera, I know it has overheating issues with 4K but i never use the 4K feature to record movies. I'm on the latest firmware and lollipop update came via OTA, I can't tell if this is the exact reason but the phone gets so hot that it almost burns my skin !
I have reset the phone and wiped and re-installed everything and this had no effect. I have no warranty as I have paid fully for the phone and left the contract. I don't do gaming or anything processor intensive and yet the phone heats up really bad.
Any solutions apart from taking it to fix somewhere cause I live in Norway and I can buy a new phone for the price of someone looking at the problem cause its that expensive here
What if I have to install a clean stock rom? Any recommendations?
Thanks.

Unlock bootloader, flash custom kernel with the alternative to chooice an aggressive hotplug driver / battery friendly CPU governor and flash a custom ROM.
Solved!
Try downloading watchdog lite and see what is using most cpu.If you find nothing try flashing latest ftf using flashtool, root and debloat.4g/lte could also heat up the phone very fast.

Or just use the included kernel. Your choice of preference, u know!

Had the heating issue on the Sony Stock Officail Lollipop ROM, now I'm on AICP with processor underclocked at 1.7GHz, giving great battery life and no heating issues even on high end games.

Did your camera quality degrade? I'm rooted on LB and I'm underclocked to 1.2ghz, but still overheating.

Camera quality is way better in AOSP, just backup ur drm keys first, UL the BL, and thab try any AOSP or CM based rom.
Did you consider downgrading to kitkat?
I am using kitkat and the phone doesnt really overheat, without any underclocks or anything, unless I play something that is really demanding, such as asphalt 8

Thanks.

By saying the screen got fixed, does that mean the phone's internals were opened? If that is the case than we might have to look for a pysical reason more than a software one.
Besides, in many countries those devices have 1 year warranty, of which is decided and forced by goverments. Since it is your 8th month, you may still have warranty and take your phone to a service (they may blame summer thoguh).

]Finally is here. Marshmallow 26.3.A.0.131 update bring us so wanted improvements.
Here you can post your thoughts, performance reports, or possible bugs you may found.
First what get better:
1. Overall performance - is so smooth, every menu scroll fast.
2. Camera - i can't confirm, seems little bit better
3. WIFI - Wow so much better, before i was trying couple times until get connected, now is instant.
4. Actual perfomance - I make test with Antutu, Asphalt etc. Is much, much better. Antutu score on Android 5 was around 29 k and 30 k max. Marshmallow wake the beast and score now is 32 k. Asphalt 8 is playable on medium settings, before very low settings was only way to play it normal. Do you know why? CPU isn't limited anymore 4 cores on 1.46 Ghz and 0.8 Ghz for the second 4 cores.
What wasn't fix, or improve:
Apps opening time
Overheating is same as before
Low storage
More perfomance needed
Sites loading is slow as before
I found two bugs, the one bug is in the dialer the letters under the numbers are repositioned a little bit, and idk if this is a bug but the status bar doesn't take the color of the app you are using

I think it's called "feature", you may want to try What's New (Play Store) themes if you'd like colourful status-bar. It looks like that stock themes prefer black status bars now.

Seems to be a bug, Detect USB device does not make sense without OTG.
The update is fine but a little bit disappointed specially on performance, apps are still opening very slow although UI is faster, at least now we have a better multitasking performance and no more bugs on RAM.
I had about 35k score in Antutu so MM sucks.
Mobile Data got buggy for me, didn't work until restart. Guys what happening with the Speaker it was so loud before now is very reduced i check settings nothing to about it.

I have 35k on MM... E2303 Model.
Performance will always be the same coz of the ****ty chipset thats inside m4 aqua. Yes, Snapdragon 615 is pile of crap
well, this is my MM result on antutu.

Nope, my M4 Aqua is almost out of the box, 100% stock, bootloader locked, never root, just updated via Xperia Companion a few hours ago.
I don't like the fact that mpdecision is not included in the new update. it gives me huge battery drain.
Anyone have problems with gallery apps? My pictures doesn't render to be watched, only a black screen, the files are ok and the SD Card is new

I also found that speaker was louder and clear on LP plus even have a little bit of distortion at max volume now, and in mi case, performance in 3D games was smoother in LP 3.120 with ondemand CPU governor. It might fix again if i change governor in MM but still not rooted as im waiting for a method for locked bootloader.

Snapdragon 615 does not need it nor it's compatible with mpdecision..
Sony won't be adding any hotplug as they don't make
Custom kernel or drivers.. It's just qualcomm,s fault..
Is somebody else bothered with the weird gap between the signal bars and the battery icon?
Also, does anyone know how can I remove agv Antivirus? I'll appreciate it.
Guys i noticed that the brightest is very low for out side

I like New update, everything seems to work ok, i have made adoptable sfor?ie tru adb (mixed 50) and i am pleased with result. I think rom needs a day or two to settled down... Yesterday i run AnTuTu and obtained 35k scor and today i got 36.7k... maybe tomorrow i'll get 40k...
Everything is just great, but i miss the real stamina mode from Sony..
