I used Goo to update TWRP (I think to 2.6.1) and now the phone won't boot to recovery. It just comes back to the system every time. Tried booting to recovery from Goo, tried power on/vol down and selecting recovery, it always just goes back to the home screen. Not sure what to do next...

Its real simple if you have adb setup on your PC instructions should be in the twrp thread

Hi all, I hope you guys can help me. I am currently running Newts XXX ROM and I since I am traveling overseas I wanted to make my phone global. But I installed the wrong patch...I used the StockGSMpatch instead of the GSMpatch and now I can't get pass the HTC white screen. I tried flashing the non stock patch through recovery and it didn't work. I tried flashing the boot.img from Newts ROM and that didn't work. All I can do is get into recovery. If all else fails, I might have to wipe everything. If so, can I backup my data (like contacts) using recovery? Not sure how the nand backup works... Any help would be appreciated!
The gsm patch always requires a full wipe before installing. You gotta do that I'm afraid and then apply the patch for it to get past the bootloop.

I was afraid of that... Ok is there a way to backup my contacts and text messages without going into the OS? Or at least I can hook it up to a PC and copy my files over and figure it out later? I tried using the USB-MS toggle in Recovery, but I don't see my root files in the file explorer.

hopefully your contacts are synced with google... but other than that there's no way to save them now... and you must do a full wipe..

You don't need the patch on Venom ROM, it automatically flashes it within the aroma installer once you choose the gsm option. So a factory reset and a reflash of the ROM should get you going.

the other day i tried restoring a back up via TWRP but it didnt work until i fastboot flashed boot.img...Alright so i updated my TWRP via goomanager app to the latest version (whatever is on there via goomanager) as in the TWRP forum discussions it was stated that previous versions were not working properly wihen restoring. So today i flashed a new ROM (NOS ROM) but that didnt work so i decided what better time than now to try restoring again, no dice didnt work and i had to fastboot flash the boot img for the restore file to take and boot up just fine again...ok peeps what am doing wrong??? again im fairly new at this flashing ROMS scene but i thought witht he TWRP update i would be good to go. Am i missing some settings ticks/options/checks? i saw a check box that said "recovery" i think in the restore or back up process dont remember which process. i tried going onto the TWRP discussion but it is locked down and states that there will no longer be any support for it...should i just switch to CWM?? thanks in advance to whom ever replies

What did you have checked while making the backup? data? recovery? cache? system? and did you rename the back up?
System, data and boot are checked...I didn't mess with the options just hit restore and let it do it's thing...should I change something or check the other 2 boxes (one of them being "recovery" forgot what the other option was)?

also some roms are picky about which recovery is used to install/backup. I can say I have had no issues backing up stock or custom roms with twrp on my DNA

That's exactly what I was trying when all this happened...I flashed it via flash gui app like I've been doing but for some reason it didn't work...when I went to unlock screen it would pull up HTC splash screen and just stay stuck there... I'm not S-off yet so would that have something to do with NOS ROM not functioning?

no thats how that rom boots....leave it alone for about 5-10 minutes youlll see the notificatiion light come on and your =e good to go
Let me rephrase that...it boots up, screen comes on silver background from butterfly then I go pull ring to unlock and it pulls up the HTC splash screen once I unlock and will not move from there...so that's when I reset and went back to viper...???

I may have misread but did you wipe everything before loading nos? I saw what was checked for backup but not about wiping. You should wipe everything-system, then cache, then delvik cache-not exactly in that order (make SURE there IS a backup just in case). Load the rom AND flash the correct image file with adb. Also, many roms when FIRST loading up sit a long time before they start up, not sure if nos does this or not-I have been jumpy about the time sitting with a few roms when waiting was all I needed to do. I have had different Viper versions on a few times and moving to another rom was quirky each time I did so, not sure why.
NOS did that to me too. Just wait....it will load into the setup wizard. I think being s-on, which I still am...twrp isn't able to back up and restore your roms boot.img. just a guess but I to failed to restore a backup when an install went awry. Makes sense to be being that you can't install a kernel from recovery either.

I looked at the install instructions for nos, if you are s-on you need to do one extra step. You have to extract the rom into a folder somewhere to get the image file, copy the image file from it. Flash that image file using adb on your pc and THEN install the rom from your phone with goomanager. Without the image file loaded, I don't think it would work. If you are s-off this step is not needed.

I believe it will, if it had the image from the get go. I believe that the back up has everything it needs. At least my back ups have never needed an image file. I decided I should try NOS myself and must say it would not go for me (S-off) it kept rebooting into recovery. I was going to try and also flash the boot image but have not done so yet.

Its the kernel in NOS. Flash NOS and then flash cpalmers kernel. Then reboot and do the setup and if you want to change to the zarboz kernel you need to delete system/bin/thermald or rename it to thermald_old.bak

Hmmm well I did everything via my cell (been the way I've been flashing ROMS unless something goes wrong then I use ADB on computer) and everything when properly done works fine using Flash GUI APP love that app! I've flashed super charged hatka 320 (used that for a couple weeks) then switched over to viper...both using Flash GUI I tried using NOS but yes no dice loaded up but when I pull the unlock ring for whatever reason the splash screen comes up and it won't budge from there....and as for my original question haha TWRP did not work for me when restoring it tripped out like if it was missing the boot image (done that before so I'm familiar with that behavior haha)

Alright hey guys! I rooted my phone last night and it worked and all that and I got the SuperUser app. But before I go into more detail, I have the Galaxy s3 I737 or whatever it is for at&t. Alright well today I decided that I wanted to put a custom rom on. I downloaded rom manager from the play store and then opened it up and downloaded CM 10.1 build and the GApps for it also. I clicked all of the boxes for it to make a back up and to wipe all that stuff also and then it started loading and all that. After it was done loading, the phone restarted and had the little CM guy on there and it had the CM boot logo thing I guess you would say.? But after that, it said that Setup Wizard has stopped and that the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped.
This is what I'm talking about.
Sorry for the bad quality but I had to use my ipod to take the pictures
So now what am I suppose to do? I just really hope that I didn't screw up my phone! Please help!

I think you can just flash twrp recovery with the tool. I only used it once on my friends phone but i believe it has that option. As long as your phone can get to recovery or download mode its not "done". Thats what i would do in this case. Flash twrp recovery with the tool then download a rom to your pc. Transfer to your phone while your in recovery then wipe and flash(just not internal or external sd like my freind did lol). If cm wont flash try a samsung based rom first so you can make a backup before your flash anything else.

I got the Verizon HTC One Max today... Successfully got bootloader unlock, root, and S-OFF (thanks to rumrunner!).
Found CWM Touch/Non-Touch recovery as well as TWRP. Tried flashing both via fastboot and neither would actually load when telling device to boot into recovery. Tried installing TWRP via GooManager, no go. Tried installing CWM via ROM Manager, no go. Recovery not found for either is what I was pretty much running in to.
Decided to try flashing recovery for Verizon HTC One (via ROM Manager), it says it worked, but still would not boot into recovery. Ever since then, though, I cannot get service and device will be on for a minute or two and then reset.
Manually flashed TWRP and CWM and now it seems to boot into recovery (with either), but still no service and still resetting every minute or two.
Cannot find RUU for this device, nor can I find radio to flash or stock recovery.
Help me! I want my phablet back! lol

Where did you "find" cwm and twrp? Different versions from other forums 'sometimes' contain other partitions with them.
Should only use:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-max/orig-development
Recoveries are made from a device specific kernel. The One kernel is very similar to the Max but not exact. There is work being done to get usable pieces of a decrypted Verizon Max ruu. Not sure what you can do until available.

Dont go without. You have custom Max recovery installed now and we have the files for someone in here to create you some flashable zips of stock kernel and stock recovery to try. Decrypted ruu pieces are needed when you cant flash with custom recovery.
Just ask in General for someone to create flashable zips.

Yes sir. Bootloader unlocked and S-OFF. Booting into Android is not an option, so I'm wondering how I go about flashing these files provided to me being in .bin format? Can I flash them using fastboot? Or can I rename .bin to .img?

Fastboot flash boot (bootfilename)
Just replace the (bootfilename) part with the file name you are using
Example
Fastboot flash boot g6f789c8.img
Edit- also I checked and found that drop box must have added the .bin extension. The flashify app leaves them without extension because it assumes they are .IMG files. Therefore, they can simply be renamed to .IMG. Didn't notice that in the hurry to post.

Edit- also I checked and found that drop box must have added the .bin extension. The flashify app leaves them without extension because it assumes they are .IMG files. Therefore, they can simply be renamed to .IMG. Didn't notice that in the hurry to post.

Awesome. I thank you for the help. I'll let you know if it's a success. Will be the first thing to do upon getting home, after grabbing a beer of course. Lol

What you need to do is fastboot the stock recovery, you shouldn't need the stock boot.img unless you tried to flash someone else's kernel for a different device... Anyways yeah you need to fastboot the stock recovery by rebooting in to bootloader and typing "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" given the stock recovery is "recovery.img" which it should be.. Once stock recovery is installed boot in to the stock recovery any way you can possibly get to it and do a full factory data reset.. This will wipe the entire phone as well as reset the Verizon radio/baseband and theoretically you should be able to boot right back up and cell and data connection should resume as normal! Good luck and PM me if you need any further help and I'll give you my gmail/hangouts so you can hit me up directly right there..

Volume up goes to TWRP but i can’t get my phone to just turn on normally. I was not attempting anything. This is how my phone turned on...If I try to reboot in TWRP it notes their is no OS installed. Please help....

I tried reflashing with ODIN and now I no longer have TWERP... These are the two screens I can get to. I have tried multiple files on ODIN but they all fail... Not sure what to do now.

You need to re flash twrp in Odin to get your recovery back and there is a file out there that you can flash in twrp that should square you back to factory. I believe @micmars has helped with this issue before. Perhaps he remembers the thread in which he found it the first time? I will search and try to post you a link.

Yup. Go to TWRP, navigate to wipe, flick the padlock, factory reset, reboot.
If that doesn't work, let me know ASAP. I can try other means to get you back...
