[Q] Edits don't persist in /dev/block/mmcblk0p4 - Verizon HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE

I update my CID to 11111111 in mmcblk0p4MOD and place it on my SD card. If I move the file by either
dd if=/sdcard/mmcblk0p4MOD of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p4
OR
cat /sdcard/mmcblk0p4MOD > /dev/block/mmcblk0p4
but every time the changes do not persist. I do a cat on /dev/block/mmcblk0p4 it shows the normal VZW__001 CID.
I am temproot, any reason I cannot write to that file? I can never get my phone unlocked.

Try the script by mdmower it takes almost all the why's out of the process.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app

That's what I originally tried, but the SuperCID was never set by that script correctly. So I tried the manual approach here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1986346 and was never able to update the mccblk0p4 file in the /dev/block folder.

Here is what mdmower's script produces:

I tried removing the /dev/block/mmcblk0p4 file using rm (rm /dev/block/mmcblk0p4) and was able to remove it. I then transferred the modified mmcblk0p4 using dd (dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p4MOD of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p4) and the subsequent cat of that file showed the expected 11111111 SuperCID. However, I do a 'adb reboot bootloader' followed by 'fastboot oem readcid' and it still says VZW__001. And the /dev/block/mmblk0p4 is back to the original. Something seems to be overwriting it after I exit the adb shell.

[HELP] : htc flyer bricked s-on, cwn KO & adb : no device found

Helo,
I bricked (I suppose) my flyer trying in 2011 to use the O'Brien HC procedure.
Therefore I only have the HBOOT menu...(because I have a decorelation between bott & radio I suppose)
Fastboot is OK
CWN is dead I cannot recorver it
adb make an error : device not found (I don't understand because it was running before (before I reinstall my PC))
I didn't have the RUU initial so I have CID errors and I tried all the RUU available last year...

Thanks a lot,

Adb can not see your device because adb will only work if you are booted somewhat into android or in recovery.
Have you attempted to Fastboot flash the appropriate recovery?
At what stage of Paul's guide did things go bad?
At step 12 - failure
12 - Push the new hboot to your device (you've checked the MD5 right?) and flash - 'adb push stock-hc-flyer-hboot_1.11.0011.nb0 / && adb shell dd if=/stock-hc-flyer-hboot_1.11.0011.nb0 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18'
The hboot still in 0006... So there everything go wrong, the radio and the hboot are not synchronize ; what is a pb is that adb didn't work at all !
Thanks for any help

Please help Unrooting :(

So I rooted my HTC Rezound a months ago, since ICS didn't launch when I wanted it to lol..Any way I decided I want to unroot my phone so I can trade it in on a new one. I followed the guidelines a user posted on XDA to the T and I keep getting either a message failed my version is newer or older than the one im installing? I did however download a ICS fake update before I rooted and wasn't sure if that has anything to do with it. As of right now I am stuck in the Bootloader screen I can not do anything. Please help, I need this phone for work since I am supposed to be On Call everyday. If you need any numbers from the bootloader screen I am sure I have them memorized lol.
Unrooting Guide I followed
Was here in XDA
The easiest way I've found to re-lock your rezound is to download the attached "tools.zip" and extract to your desktop.
Boot your rezound into fastboot by removing your battery, putting the battery back in, holding down on the volume rocker and power. Then plug your rezound into your computer. Assuming you used your computer to unlock the rezound then you should already have the required drivers.
Open command prompt and enter the following:
cd C:\Users\[Your Name Here]\desktop\tools
Then run the command
fastboot oem lock
Your bootloader is now locked and ready to begin restoring stock recovery and rom from Stock RUU.
2. Downloading the stock RUU
*Will Update As New RUU's Are Released*
2.02.605.11 STOCK RUU EXE
download
1.02.605.6 STOCK RUU EXE
download
(will add PH98IMG.zip download for 2nd method soon)
You can do this one of two ways. You can use the exe ruu which i like to use, its simple straight forward and guides you through the process
-or-
Extract the RUU zip from the exe or download from XDA its all over.
Rename the zip PH98IMG.ZIP put on root of SD card and boot into HBOOT hit
yes with appropriate volume key and let it do its thing.
I personaly perfer running the exe. Makes life easy. But whatever floats your boat.
SIDE NOTE: IF YOU WISH TO ROOT AGAIN
the one click root tool might not work properly and will not have proper permision to install SU, If this happens flash amon through fastboot. And under development section install su / superuser, you are now rooted again

[Q] Stuck in superCID 222222 and ENG Hboot

Hi
I'm a noob and messed up my DNA here is the thing:
Followed this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2109862 to get bootloader unlocked after that installed this this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2359803&highlight=google+play this rom it's awsome but it keeps rebooting on my phone by the way the phone before unlocking bootloader and installing TWRP was like out of box and with no update because I can't get the updates from VZW outside the US anyway I changed my mind and tried to go back stock so with that in mind after installing TWRP and before installing the new ROM made a nandroiod backup (saved it to my computer) and when I tried to restore my original ROM I have this issues:
-Phone storage (like for music photos etc....) appears like "storage/emulated/legacy" and won't let me write any file or make a new folder from my computer and in gallery says "insert SD"
-Wifi show turning on and then error
Everything else seems to work fine
------Update: managed to solve this issues flashing the kernel (boot.img) from my backup again but I'm leaving this in case someone else is in a similar situation and want to know how to solve the problem-----
and when googing to bootloader says:
*** TAMPERED ***
*** UNLOCKED ***

What can I do to get back to full stock???
l also tried this without success
Step 1) adb reboot bootloader
Step 2) fastboot oem rebootRUU
Step 3) CD to directory containing hboot zip (i.e. cd C:\sdk\)
Step 4) fastboot flash zip PL83IMG.zip
*** When it says it is done in the terminal/cmdprompt execute the following ***
[The green bar only fills up about 75% of the way]
Step 5) fastboot reboot-bootloader
from the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2293919 [How-To] From S-OFF to 100% Stock S-ON [Facepalm/JTAG/RevOne/Moonshine]
by the way I tried to flash the RUU and didn't worked it said error 170 (don't know because I tried in Windows 8 64bit, the cable or what happened) and thinking this twice I don't know if relocking and running the RUU will brick or do something else to my device (because the CID 22222222 or whatever)
So what would you recommend to me for getting back to stock ( recovery and Hboot stock)

I personally wouldn't recommend using toolkits. "ADB" is much easier, I've even put instructions in the blue link in my sig how to flash those specific files. Also to run the RUU you will need to flash version 1.15 hboot

I think you need to S-OFF at this point, if you have SuperCID (22222222) all you need to do is finish these steps, since the bootloader is already unlocked just go ahead and follow these steps in this tutorial (oh and by the way it says MONARUDO PVT SHIP S-ON which means stock bootloader so you are ok there you do not have an ENG which is a good thing the SHIP means it's a standard bootloader)
Just for saftey make sure you have SuperCID 22222222 by running this command in the bootloader
Code:
fastboot oem readcid

Can't get S-OFF, revone fails

Hi, I have an AT&T HTC One 32GB and using a laptop with Ubuntu.
Bootloader says:
*** TAMPERED ***
*** UNLOCKED ***

HBOOT-1.44.0000
I'm trying to get S-OFF in an attempt to convert this to a GPE device. To do this, I'm trying to use revone.
When running revone -P as per this guide I get this output:
Code:
[email protected]:/ # cd /data/local/tmp/
[email protected]:/data/local/tmp # ls
revone
[email protected]:/data/local/tmp # chmod 755 revone
[email protected]:/data/local/tmp # ./revone -P
revone v0.2.1
revone failed (error code = 2)
I also don't know if this is related but ever since I rooted my phone, the wi-fi won't turn on. I haven't flashed any other ROMs, just a custom recovery.
I would love any possible help. Thank you. If any additional information helps I'll give as much as I can.
ATT HTC one s-off
I'm having the same issue with my HTC one trying Revone from Windows 7. I have the same bootloader info, same Revone error 2 result, and same problem with the wi-fi.
My wi-fi worked after root until I tried to set s-off. Now it won't turn on, seems to be stuck and my camera is also dead. I have tried flashing a new ROM per the HTCdev website in the hope that it would clear the issue but nothings gets accepted.
