Go look for recovery software online and hope. Most likely you should be able to if you didn't format it.

i did the power and volume down thingy and i selected the option that deletes all data.
Unless you did a fat 32 format then you should be able to recover them with an app called undelete beta. It's in the market but you gotta be rooted which you should be if your an xda'er
I tried the undelete app and it only reads my SD card. I was wondering if they were in a folder that I can go In to with root explorer and save them. Maybe cache?

Today I got my new GS4, and was going to make sure all my stuff was backed up from my GS2 before I turned on my new phone. I went into "accounts" from contacts and checked the box for "auto-sync app data" (this is the only thing I did, period, since I was viewing my photos only about an hour earlier) and then connected my phone to the PC so I could back up all my photos. When I did, all the photos "loaded" but I could not actually view them, merely their file name. So I unmounted from the PC and went into gallery on my phone, only to find every single photo, both internal and on sd was replaced with a grey box and I cant view them. I have since reconnected to my PC, and now all those folders are completely empty. If I go into gallery on my phone, it still shows my folder names with all these grey photos, but when I use a file explorer to try and view them, nothing, 0 files just like on the PC. I have NO IDEA how this could have happen, and the only link I have to something going wrong was the auto-sync box I checked. I had about 6 months of photos I didn't back up, and some VERY important and irreplaceable pics I can't get back. I was hoping someone my have an idea as to what happen/how to recover my pics. I have gone through multiple folders, and literally every single .jpg file is gone! This includes all pics taken using the camera, any screenshots I had, all photos saved from texts and websites! EVERYTHING!!!! PLEASE HELP ME GET MY MEMORIES BACK!!!!!

Define "loaded". The sdcard mounts like a hard drive, then you copy them off. Not sure how you screw that up.

When I say loaded, I mean all the file names showed up in the folder, but I could not open the picture to view it. So it looked like they were there, but the file extension didn't show as .jpg and when trying to view them it said something about how microsoft viewer was unable to display image. I never actually attempted to do the copy from phone to pc, so there was not an issue with a transfer, but something that happen prior to even connecting to the pc as far as I can tell. After disconnecting and reconnecting, however, the files don't even show as there, just says 0 files in folder when I open it. Also, its not just sd card, but literally every single file that had a .jpg extension is completely gone....this includes internal and sd, and everything from wallpapers, camera shots, pics from texts and web, everything!
You could try Disk Digger to recover the photos.
Thx for the disk digger recommendation! It was super tedious going thru over 9,000 pics of thumbnails n all kinds of bs, but I was able to get back most of my pics from the internal memory! Now just need to do it with the sd card.

Remove your external SD card and try to access the images through a card reader. Some Sammy devices have had issues playing nice with SD cards, and the resulting behavior can be similar to what you have experienced. Technical details can be found around d the web.
Hey guys,
I want to perform a complete DFG fix on my S3 (running SlimBean), so I want to free up as much memory as I possibly can. I have 3.7GB worth of photos and videos - is there a proper way to perform a backup and restore while keeping the date organization?
As a test I transferred my S3's DCIM folder to my Nexus 7's. The result was that the gallery was disorganized, where some of the videos where clumped together in the front, and images taken last year appearing before recent pictures.
So is there a way to restore the gallery while keeping the date organization of the photos and videos?
Thanks for the help!
You should have backed up with Dropbox... but any ways... you can still just copy paste to your computer. it will just change the modify date in your picture cata. Created date will stay untouched...
I have a backup on my PC + Google+. That's not the problem. I am worried that when I restore the images, I will loose the picture's data organization as it is now, sort of by when I took the pictures.
I guess there is no proper way.

Shouldn't this information be stored in the picture itself, talking about date when taken etc.?

Just copy and paste all the data you need to back up on your computer and copy them back afterwards.

I would assume so, but as I said in my original post, when I had transferred all the images on my Nexus 7, as a test, the gallery wasn't organized correctly, where some of the videos where clumped together in the front, along with some old pictures, followed then by the new pictures.
I am assuming I will face the same issue when I restore my pictures on the S3, and that's something I want to avoid.
To my misfortune today, I found that all the photos I've taken on my phone with the exception of today's are wiped. Is there a way for me to recover the data? This is a very serious problem as I am in Paris on a trip... thank you all in advance for all your help, and before someone says whether or not I wiped the photos, no, I didn't do any sort of accidental user input to wipe anything...
That's odd. I'm not sure. Do you use Google photos or other service as a backup?

Thanks for the response, I used to on my old phone, but I haven't had a chance to set it up yet at the time. After this impromptu data loss happened, I just set it up again, but it's too late for those lost photos. I don't think it's a hardware corruption on the SD card because my music and gameboy ROMs are intact. I think something in the software just wiped all the photos up to a certain point, that point being the last day of my trip. Anything before it is gone.

I'm not saying it's impossible that they're deleted, but it's not a very common thing to happen... Did you check that they're not locked in the stock gallery or haven't been renamed to a different file type?
As far as I'm aware, you can't restore deleted files without root.
I just got my photos back using Dr. Fone, root is required to pull the photos straight off but I just took out the SD card and the program can attempt to pull the photos off directly. Out if my 700+ photos only about 20 were permanently corrupted. I totally didn't expect this to happen and I am now curious whether this was Android's fault or LG's. I did have to pay 50 dollars for Dr. Fone.
It is also possible, since you're stating that you were using an SD card, that the card got corrupted. In that case it's not a fault of the phone, most likely

Good point, but I'd expect corruption to wipe more than just my photos. I say this because I am storing my music on the phone too, and all that as well as my PSP and Gameboy ROMs are still completely intact. It's like the phone just decided to wipe all my photos up to a certain point.
So I guess a fair warning to all, use some kind of background backup service like Google Photos.

Corruption can happen in various forms. It is completely possible that your file table sectors got corrupted, essentially "deleting" your Photos folder.
There's loads of programs you can use to recover deleted files from drives. This is a good place to start but there are tons. Just be careful where you download them from.

Yes the problem is the delete icon when you open up the gallery, you can miss one delete of a pic and mistakenly hit select all and boom all pics gone, happened to me on a trip with my g3 i didn't notice it in the spur of the moment taking pictures and when i tried to show of my awesome shots i noticed i deleted alllll of my pics and they were a looooot and i tried to recover them but most got corrupted and the only saved ones were the thumbnail cache for the real pics rendering them useless since they were small
