Thinking about downgrading to .256 because I didn't have the problem then, what do you think

Looks like it's fast dormancy that's raping your battery. What's fast dormancy? Read here. Check if your carrier supports it. If they don't, disable it.
Or you can simply check out this video

Yeah I've looked online, never had this problem in the firmware before, so thinking about downgrading.
And to disable It, I'll have to root :/ how would one go about doing that? Going through root explorer or?
Plus, I'm thinking If I root it, I should make a TA backup If I decide to flash anything. How would one go by doing that?
Thanks J

Ehh.. I wouldn't go through all of that just to change one tiny thing. It's actually just simpler to downgrade or upgrade, depending on the build you're on now. I personally like 290 and I have never had any issues with it. I'm not running it now though (GPe), but it's a good one. I read that 136 has some issues.

I had a few bugs in .290 and I'm currently on .136 the latest with this problem.
If I Downgrade will I lose my IMEI like I see most people do ?
Thanks

I also have noticed a substantial increase in the wakeups on .136.
And I rarely am off Wi-Fi, if at all, and according to the FD theory mentioned as the possible culprit, that wouldn't be what is increasing my wakeups.
Very strange.

we have stamina for it.

Yup, and FD only applies to 3G, so it can't and won't happen if your on 2G, 4G or WiFi.

Stock vs Rooted

Now I'm not your average user. I've only owned two android phones: the LG esteem and now the DNA. The Esteem was really a solid phone and the development team really allowed the phone to go above and beyond its limits. Though I loved my Esteem the DNA just blows it out the water in all aspects. I rooted my Esteem because it wasn't as good stock. A phone like this makes me wonder is it even necessary to root because it's already so fast and so smooth.
And that's pretty much my question. As I hold my DNA in my hand I'm wondering if I should go ahead and root or just keep it as stock. What do you guys think?
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk 2
I've been stuck on stock because I took the ota. But the stock Rom for me has been amazing I'm patiently waiting for the unlock. But it's great maybe one of the first phones I'm really content on stock. I've been keeping up with custom roms and some really still seem to have some issues and quirks like wireless charging issues and Bluetooth not working. Phones not going into deep sleep I don't have any of those issues.

Rooting the dna isn't really about getting a performance boost as it is about getting extra customization.

Giving root to everyone might not be optimal for average users that aren't tech savvy... however it really shouldn't be difficult to get root access...once a device is bought, the users should have the right to do what they want with it. Think about buying a laptop and not being able to put an OS you want on it...could we have a petition to force companies to let the device really be owned by the user after its been payed for?

That doesn't remove the ota, it removes the files on your phone that control the ota.
If you are not rooted and on the ota there is no way to root(for now) and no way to revert back to the older software version, period.

[Q] 2.04 update on GSM

Hey, guys. I bought a Droid DNA to use on AT&T. Everything is working fine, but it came with the older software version (1.5) and I'm not planning to root, so I wanted to update it to 2.04.
The problem is, it's not an option. It seems like it will only let me update if I have a CDMA signal. Anyone know a way around this? I already took out my SIM card and set it to CDMA mode. That actually lights up the "check for updates" button, but it still doesn't find anything. There has to be a way to update this phone without Verizon service.
You could root then flash the ota
Sent from my HTC6435LVW
Honestly, root it then flash an rom that's based on 2.04. You'll be happier.

It probably had something to do with the fact that I specifically said "without rooting" and that was the immediate response...IDIOT.
Example:
Question: "Can anyone recommend an action movie that doesn't star Bruce Willis".
Answer: "I recommend Die Hard".
Duh?
It's not helpful to suggest the one thing that someone says they don't want to do. That's what I would classify as smartass. I was trying to see if anyone else knew of another method. The friend sim card came up as an option later. I suggest you check yourself.
For those crying "root" because the phone was on a software version that allows it, I flip my phones pretty quickly and I don't want to permanently unlock a phone that I will probably be selling or trading sometime in the near future.

[Q] Anyone else still getting SOD?

So we all know about the sleep of death issues with this phone initially. It caused me to replace my phone. However, I am STILL getting stuck in deep sleep every day. I got it on SnowJB and now I'm getting it on SlickJB. The only time I didn't get it was with the 11c update. I've gotten it with every ROM since then though. Am I alone on this?
Nope. I'm in the same boat. I've been trying different things to remedy the situation. Today I'm trying underclocking. Ill know if it worked when I go to school.
Only happens when data is on and being used but wifi is on but not connected.
If I am connected to wifi, I never get them.
Sent from my LG-E970 using xda premium
Maybe there's still a "bad batch." I only get bsods maybe once or twice a month if that. To get so many is really bizarre.
Sent from my LG-E970 using xda app-developers app
I hardly ever have wifi on, and when I have it on it's connected. I get locked out when just data is on. Maybe I'll see about unrooting and getting another replacement.
Is it possible the BSOD issues are being caused by CPU grade?
Mine is a 3/FAST, and I got SoD's on SnowJB and Nocturnal LE, but only like one or two on SlickJB, and NONE on the JB OTA or new CM10.1.
I posted a last_kmge.txt file that Mystery said had some good info in it and said that it was definitely the kernel. See the convo below:

Edit: more info, I caught the BSOD at around 10:35 and pulled the log right away. I noticed the last event is at 10:27am. So my phone BSODed 7 minutes after I left my house and was on the freeway.

Laggy ?

Hey guys so I just upgraded to the s4 and for some reason it seems laggy and slow . Now I did install safe strap root and flashed hyper and jelly but there was a lag feeling to it compared to my note 2. Titanium takes longer to restore same number if apps and even adding a gmail account its has some lag. So I went back to stock rooted to try this. Anyone else have this happen? I have gotten as high as 29000 something or other without overclocking the CPU. I think I was on Hyperdrive. I'd think vanir would smoke. That is one fast rom. Officially? No, it'll be locked down like any other release. After that? Who knows, we'll just have to wait to see if someone will be able to do it.
What kind of lag are you experiencing exactly? Mine used to stutter a lot more than it does now... here's what I did to fix mine:
1) Freeze/uninstall all bloat of course
2) In Dev options change all window animations to .5 (or off if you want)
3) Turn off Lock Screen animations (water drop/light effect) <--- this made the biggest difference oddly
4) Install Nova launcher and don't use too many home screen widgets
5) (Optional) I use a program called Clean Master which will clean up junk files and cache for you
My S4 still isn't completely lag free, it does still stutter from time to time during heavy multitasking but I think that's just the nature of a heavy skin like Touchwiz running in the background. Unfortunately I have ME7 so comparing it to AOSP is out of the question right now (I don't really want to run Safe Strap at the moment).
There are also other things I haven't tried like Greenify-ing apps and whatnot, but for now I'm happy with how it's acting.
Opening apps up and unlocking phone was laggu for me. I'll try what you suggested. I'm hoping I can either trade my phone for a mdk version or 4.3 becomes unlockable

I'm not sure. I doubt it. I have been hopeful that a dev is sitting on an exploit waiting until the 4.3 update to release it so there is not a opportunity to patch it. But as far as I know right now there is no exploit for the me7 boot loader and no prospects on the horizon.

Yeah, maybe my expectations were too high. I was running bonestock and it was the smoothest experience I had. But, the occasional home button lag, super slow dialer, and choppy performance during some game play and scrolling made the overall experience disappointing.

I know it's fun to bash Touchwiz but I think a lot of lag issues still hide under Android itself... I'm hoping to see good results with the TRIM feature in 4.4 (not sure if it's in 4.3?) to totally get rid of lag across all Androids.
I completely agree with you though, Touchwiz is bloated and heavy and I prefer stock Android over all others.

Considering battery issues, should we take the update?

Title sums it up; considering the strange wifi issue causing massive battery drain on devices as seen in another thread, those of us getting replacements or new devices, should we still take that out of the box update if given the option, or hold off and show results? Did anyone not update and see a difference in wifi?
