[Q] My SMS / Oragne Bars - Motorola Droid RAZR

I use My SMS on my phone and tablet. With CM11 sometimes messages i try sending from my tablet to the phone will not send, until I open the application on the phone and boom they are sent to my phone and out like they should. I believe this works with google push but am not completely certain. Does anyone know how to get this to work properly?
This may be related to the Orange bars issue, but I have never noticed orange bars before, but I do at time have the same symptoms like not getting my e-mail and the issue stated above

Use root browser to Delete the cellbroadcastreceiver.apk file in /system/apps this will fix the orange bar issue

I will give that a try, Thanks.

I found that on the new roms this was not necessary anymore, but making sure your APNs are correct was a more accurate fix.

mysms is the best of the best! But! it has become finicky with KK. Here's how to fix.
1.) KK requires you to have a specified default SMS, it must be mysms for mysms to work.
2.) For mysms to work you MUST use your gmail account as your login both on the phone and on your computer/s. Why, because of the KK required specified default SMS you need your google gmail account to 'wake the phone up' even when you're sending from your computers, pads etc.
3.) I also did a complete uninstall / re-install. It's working as it should.
This will help!

[Q] handcent and stock messages

Hi folks,
Just wondered if someone has come across this bug bear of mine and found a solution to it.
I use handcent for my messages instead of the built in stock message app but I have noticed that despite going into settings and telling the stock app NOT to retrieve messages and told handcent TO retrieve messages that although I only get a handcent notification when a message is received that the reality is that both apps have the messages sent to me.
Now this is a bug bear as I have handcent protected from prying eyes for my messages but cant do the same with the stock app. If anything I would prefer to remove the stock app altogether.
Has anyone come across this as well and found a solution?
Cheers in advance.
I noticed yesterday the same thing. It was seemed to be after last handcent update. I didn't look for a solution yet.

Cheers for sharing, I thought I was missing some option or something as never noticed the problem before. I stupidly removed the messages from the stock app thinking my handcent ones would be ok.....nope they went and were wiped also
Not sure if this again is something to do with the update or if thats normal to happen.
What a bugger!
Now I checked handcent settings. I was quite surprised - there's no option "use as default (or something similar) anymore! After update. That explains the problem, I guess.
I have been using handcent for more than a year now, and I always see the sms in both apps..., I do not think this is a bug. But you can remove the MMS.APK in the system folder if you have root, and that would fix your problem. But... when I did this in my Milestone it have some problems with the sms, the notifications where delayed... you get the screen popup notification and 5 or 10 seconds later the sound... but this was for the Milestone 1, you can move the spk and save it as backup and test it.
I have emailed them asking about it, if I hear anything I will put it up.....crazy though really they have done this :-(

Nope, that's a real bug. I've just rolled back on 3.9.5 revision (I have it in Titanium backup) - the problem has gone! I have "Default messaging app" in the Settings again!
And you only see the sms in handcent??? becouse i have allways have it as defaul app but allways seen the sms in both....

Surely. That was the issue.
Both apps use the same SMS/MMS database created by android. I know of no other app that uses it's own. Your only option is to root and remove the messaging.apk from /system/app/

Just had a look on my titanium backup and its currently running version 3.9.8 and I can only roll back as far as 3.9.7.
If you roll back do you loose your current messages? And do you know of hand if rolling back to 3.9.7 will benefit?

So the option of only letting handcent retrieve messages must in a way block the stock message app from retrieving them, though the stock app is there in the background?
As said earlier, didnt have the problem before of both retrieving messages and as pointed out the recent update may be reason

No, all my messages still with me I don't know about 3.9.7. Just try to restore the app with data. Nothing to lose.
Well I have rolled back and no data was lost, phew! However I have chosen the option from the menu stating disable stock and allow handcent to be default and still the same :-(
Maybe this problem has been for the last 2 updates.
Something else I noticed, the led no longer seems to flash. Not sure if this is something related to custom rom on lite'ning or not. Did you also encounter this? Would it be possible to install an older version of handcent from somewhere do you think?

I attach ver.3.9.5
Just install it over your one.
Which LED do you mean? SGSII has no LEDs
Probably you do use BLN or NOLED app?
If it doesnt help just go into standard SMS app setting - on the bottom - uncheck Status Bar Notifications.

Hi fella,
Thanks for the Russian version? lol? Eh lol? Anyhow went ahead and installed it via dropbox and though it said it was overwriting the previous version nothing changed and when looking still seems to be version 3.9.7.
Ref to status bar notifications, I only get one notification which is via handcent, thats fine, no problems there, just this annoying point of duplicate messages.
Ref LED, I meant the blinking light when messages come through, usually you can choose between colours etc, but even when deciding what colour of notification I want blinking I never see it lol!
Cant get over your Russian file!

Well took the plunge and used titanium back up application and simply uninstalled the the stock message app and now its gone only have handcent as the main app, so that suits me.
I checked on a another s2 that has stock rom and running handcent and that flashy reminder led light option although selected doesnt work, so it would strengthen that the s2 has no led at the front of the phone like the x10....how odd.
Oh. I'm sorry, I tapped on next file when was sending it, I have sent you a language pack. You can remove it through Appllication Management. It names "Handcent SMS Russian Language".
Now I'm attaching the correct original apk 3.9.5. I'm terribly sorry!
lol, its fine fella, don't worry about it....was quite funny really lol!
Cheers for the file

[Q] GALAXY S2 I9100 cannot send sms

Hi,
Since yesterday i cannot send any sms/mms.
The mobile is able to receive sms but when trying to send a new message i get a sending..... status and that's all. The message is not send.
I have checked the Message center number it is Ok
When changing my SIM to another phone ......it works
I contacted VODAFONE to send the setup.....they did it but nothing
I DO NOT WANT TO FACTORY RESET THE PHONE.
Does anybody knows something?
Service stopped or anything?
Backup all your stuff and perform a factory data reset...it will fix the issue.

Hi snest,
I have the exact same issue, since 5th-Feb-2012. It seems to be related to the stock messaging app. Don't have a clue what went wrong, but it just stopped sending messages. I have no issues receiving though...
I've checked my logs and I didn't install anything. Perhaps I did some updates, I'm not sure...
I also called Vodafone PT to check if everything was ok, and it was.
So I decided to start my own testing in order to try to narrow down the problem.
1st test: different SIM. No go, same problem, which means the problem is on the phone.
2nd test: restore the latest ROM backup (CWM). It worked. I was able to send/receive SMS flawlessly. The only problem was the backup date... it was 2 months old. My bad.
--> At this point I realized that the problem was on the messaging app. Something messed with it.
3rd test: Install a messaging app from the market and re-test. So I flashed the current ROM back (I backed up just before test #2), and when it came up I re-tested. No go. Then I installed the Handcend Messaging app from the Market, tested, et Voilá. It works.
I tested the stock messaging app once again and nothing, but from Handcent works like a charm.
So it's proven: the problem is on the stock messaging app.
A hard reset will solve the issue for sure, but before going there I'd like to try to reinstall the stock messaging app, if possible...
If your S2 is not rooted yet, a hard reset is the (only) way to go. I don't see any other way to solve this...
Cheers
Hi, I had a similar problems a little while after I installed handcent. SMS stopped sending. I had done some messing around removing bloatware with titanium prior to that, so assumed it was something I had done. I went back and defrosted all the apps I had frozen, but SMS still not working :-( I then thought to reinstall handcent, after which the problem disappeared , so in my case it was the other messaging app causing the problem!
My advice would be to try a different SMS app and see if that fixes the problem. Might be enough to get things going again.

This was the reason why I installed Handcent - to try and "wake up" the stock messaging app. Handcent works flawlessly, but it didn't solve the original issue.
I never had any other messaging software installed before, and my bloatware was removed a long time ago (October 2011) right after flashing a new Android version (2.3.5). So this was not the root cause for the messaging app to stop sending sms...
Go SMS Solved the problem?
Hi All,
Thank your for your replies.
I installed the Go SMS and merely resolved the problem of sending SMS.
But still I can not sent via stock messaging apk .

Try clearing data from your Messaging app from menu > applications > manage applications.
Unfortunately cleaning data did not solve the problem.
Factory reset. Or do a clean flash of GB stock rom.
Same difference, pick your poison. You may not like it but that's the only thing that's going to fix the problem (unless it is a network/apn/sim problem).
Most probably the Message centre Number has got corrupted...
Do this..
Open messaging ... Menu... settings..scroll down to Message Centre..
Note down the number ...
Either contact the network service provider...or first check the network provider support forums...to see if the number is correct...
once this message centre number has been corrected..you should be able to send messages...
I dont use Go SMS... but if you see the number there...you can copy it to stock messaging app..
I forgot to update this thread... Sorry.
I managed to isolate the issue, and found that the problem was on the messaging app itself (mms.apk) that somehow got corrupted. I tried to reinstall from an old APK backup, but it got worse, it stopped working completely.
After several hours and many tests, I ended up restoring a 2 month old CWM image (equivalent to a Factory Reset). Then I fully restored a 2 days old backup (Titanium Backup) leaving out mms.apk. Problem solved.
In your case, my advice is:
1. Install Titanium Backup from the market and perform a Full Backup (to SD card, otherwise you'll just loose it);
2. Factory Reset;
3. Setup the basics, access the market, and install Titanium Backup;
4. Full Restore (all files) EXCEPT mms.apk.
This is the only way to have the messaging app to work again with minimum (acceptable) data loss. Good luck.
Excellent advice Mnico

Hi macnaque.
Your problem is slightly different from the one that is being discussed on this thread... and a lot easier to solve as well.
It seems that your problem is due to a simple misconfiguration of the Message Centre number for your main carrier. Try the following:
- Boot the phone using your main carrier SIM. Then open the original Messaging app, and open "Settings". Scroll down to "Text Message (SMS) settings" and compare the number you have set under "Message Centre" to the one provided by your carrier. (you may need to check their website or call the customer support service to get it)
I had this same issue just 5 or 6 days after buying my S2. Somehow the last digit of the Message Centre number just... disappeared. Never happened again though.
Same issue fixed
I had the same issue on ShoStock rom on my SGH-I777, Put my sim in another phone and was able to receive messages just fine, BUt when I had my Sim out, I did a simple reboot on my phone and then put the Sim back in and rebooted the phone again and everything works just fine. I am pretty sure it had something to do with the efs folder and the IMEI number because when the sms wouldn't work, I could not open the efs folder but after the reboot and the sms working I can open the folder and view the contents,
I had the same problem. I tried everything and only installing rom by odin works for me.

Somehow I broke MMS... and Gmail Sync too!

I deleted the stock Text Messaging and using only Handcent. I'm not sure if that did it or my deleting some folders from the SD card did it. I thought all of the ones I removed were from old apps that had since been uninstalled. Maybe not.
Everything is working except the receiving of pictures. I can send them just fine.
This old Milestone is getting long in the tooth so I thought I'd remove some stuff.
Also, it seems my gmail account isn't notifying me either and it is set to auto-sync so perhaps one of the seemingly empty files, now gone, killed that too.
Any ideas of how I can fix both problems?
Thanks

I actually have no idea what that means. Is there any way to fix it with just the Handcent only installed? There isn't very much room once two messaging apps are installed and both running.
The gmail is now working, it seems to have been unhappy syncing and maybe my dogs kept un-checking it, but, it's seems to be working now.

If you are rooted you should re flash the rom that you are using or you could find the mobile messaging apk that you uninstalled and install it again
It's rooted with the stock ROM.
Whatever I cleaned out also included something that broke email sync.
It will not stay turned on, I have to go manually press "sync", which will not stay turned on, and I'm not sure if I need to add another account to remove that one, in order to re-add it to see if that works.
However, when I tried to remove it, I was prompted that to remove that email account, it only has one, I had to return the machine back to stock settings. Blehk!
I wouldn't mind a non-stock rom, especially if it can be done with two left hands and cross-eyed crazy knowing nothing about it.
Do any of the roms, which work well on the Milestone, tether, usb and/or wifi with no other apps required, or are these two problems, that I've created, perhaps easily fixed?
I'll poke about and see if I can find the stock messaging apk. Somehow, I'm not sure I'd know it if I actually found it.

[Q] Contacts (proccess com.motorola.contacts) has stopped, Force Closed

Problem:
I cannot add/delete/edit/open any of my contacts using the stock contacts manager. I get the force close on the (proccess com.motorola.contacts).
Phone setup:
Unlocked and rooted
Superuser, Busybox, CPU tuner, CWM v5.0.0.6, RomRacer as well (all free versions)
System 4.5.91.MB860.ATT.en.US (2.3.4)
radio N_01.77.37P
kernel Faux .024
OK... Before the flames are turned on... Yes I have tried lots of the "solutions" to this and NO, they did not work.
Backtrack.
I froze the updater to stop the 15 minute reminder about the OTA. I believe that was when this started, I am not entirely sure since I do not often add/edit contacts.
I unfroze the updater, restart, no change
I had tried to use the Yahoo mail client, saw something about it... reloaded it and unloaded it. restart no change
I've since loaded the Go contacts/dialer... No edit function there either, at least it does not crash.
So, What I think I need to do, and have not found anywhere, is to replace the Contacts files from a blank/stock system and then repopulate the data from an import.
Has this been done? Does anyone know how to do this?
Also, I am fine doing it manually via whatever needs to be done... and I can follow instructions.

Yahoo is a system app with the official build, so downloading Yahoo and installing it wont work. Try pulling it from a 2.3.4 build and pushing the apk to your phone. This is why using TiBu to backup and freeze apps is good.

There are a number of apps which cause contacts to FC when you try to add or edit e contact. They are all tied in to contacts. You may not see an issue until you try to add or edit a contact. If you have FC with add or edit contact, best to unfreeze everything, then go through freezing apps one at a time until you start to get FC again, then you know what apps give the problem. I know Yahoo and/or Yahoo authenticator can be one which causes the FC problem if frozen or uninstalled.
Frozen
As said before.... The only thing I ever froze was the Updater.
Installed (crashed system) and removed Skype
Installed and removed Yahoo mail
Nothing else...
I am looking for a way to remove/replace the contact files and database, install a system new/empty structure and repopulate it, if at all possible.
If, from what attention I've gotten is true, apparently, there is no way to do this short of a full system wipe and restart...
Am I correct?
You could import from a VCard format. The following may help if I understand what you are looking for correctly:
http://code.google.com/p/vcardio/
If your contacts come from your Google account, you would have to disable syncing of contacts there, (or from wherever else they are coming from), and then delete them manually. Then you could import the new contact database.
I'll give it a go...
CaelanT.... Thanks, I'll look at what you gave me and see if it will work.
Just tried GB_AtrixMix_v1_by_otogy2002 - 2.3.6 STOCK ROM this weekend and I was able to fully edit the contacts. So my nagging assumption was correct, it is the contacts application in the stock 4.5.91... en.us rom that is the culprit, not actually my contacts themselves.
So, again, short of dropping another ROM on it and having to reload my applications (not really trusting of backup and restore of apps into a different ROM)...
Does anyone know how to fix my issue?
Do you have any apps that you have frozen?

I was hoping there is someone somewhere who will read this and know how to replace the contacts application in the .91 ATT US stock ROM... I may have to ask, dare I say it.... Motorola support, and not mention the rooted and unlocked part...

Basically the Blur Contacts app calls on a ton of other dependant apks such as yahoo, activesync, work contacts and so forth. And not having one of these apks will lead to FCs when trying to edit a contact. So like previous users said, do not freeze or uninstall any of these or else you'll mess it up. If it has contact in the name or is associated with a service that syncs contacts let it be.
OK...
I guess I'll just bang around some ROM's until I find one I like and wait out ICS from Motorola for us.

Hangouts has "hijacked" my SMS permanently

Hello All,
I'm pretty experienced with Android and flashing new software and all that, but I am at my wits end this time. Last week I installed a ROM on my Sprint HTC One M7 that had hangouts as the default SMS app. I hate hangouts, so I installed a third party app. I only ended up having that ROM installed for a day or two before flashing a new one, and suddenly I couldn't receive SMS. I tried tons of things before finally ending up running the RUU to flash back to stock. Since hangouts is in the stock ROM, as soon as it booted, all of my texts popped up right there in hangouts, where they had been being diverted the whole time, despite SMS being turned off in Hangouts.
This time, I updated Hangouts, toggled SMS on and then off again, but all of my incoming texts were still going to Hangouts and not appearing in my stock SMS app at all. Finally, I flashed an updated stock rooted ROM, and no matter what I try, I cannot get Hangouts to stop handling my incoming texts. This is absolutely infuriating, because as aforementioned, I'd rather lobotomize myself with a chopstick than use Hangouts. Has anyone else encountered this? Please help me!
Thanks!

Go into the application manager, find Hangouts, and clear defaults. If you don't use it for anything else, you can always disable/delete it.

I agree! I wouldn't be here if I wasn't stumped. I had something similar happen with Google voice back on ICS when I had an SGS2, but eventually I was able to disable it. This time I am at a loss for real.

Duplicate installation, perhaps? I had this weird thing going on the other day where Titanium did an automatic restore after flashing a batch install of backups, and I had 2 iterations of Weather Bug (different versions). There have also been times where certain sideloaded apps had 2 iterations installed.
Try using a root file explorer and searching for for Hangouts. Maybe there's an .apk somewhere that still loads up even though it's not "installed" anymore.

Gonna check right now just to rule it out but I don't have high hopes since I did a full wipe before installing the Lollipop ROM that didn't contain Hangouts at all. I appreciate the continued suggestions though.

No Gapps packages, no batch restores? Maybe Google is doing it automatically when you first activate the phone. You're given the option to backup/restore your account, and if you do, the phone will start downloading apps that you had installed before.

Hmmmmm, that's one thing I did not think about, is using the Google restore feature when fresh installing. I did flash GAapps with the Lollipop Build but immediately disabled Hangouts. I wonder if maybe the setting isn't being applied "behind the scenes" when I flash a new ROM and allow Google to automatically restore settings. I'll have to play with this a bit. Thanks again.

That could be it. Installed, then disabled, then installed again automatically. If the restore is coming from a different source from Play Store, it's possible it's not making the same checks for existing installations, giving you a duplicate.

Man, I am really about to pull my hair out with this whole thing. I just installed a new ROM deleted Hangouts from system/app using root explorer after denying the auto-restore for Google and I still couldn't receive texts. Rebooted. Sent myself a few more test texts before re-installing hangouts and lo and behold, Hangouts had been receiving the texts even while not installed on any android device that I own. If Hangouts was a building, I would have looted it and burned it to the ground about an hour ago.

Yeah, I think I have managed to find some super strange bug or something, I don't know. Thanks anyway for your multiple attempts.
What phone/app are you sending the texts from?

Did you figure it out yet?
Did you check under the main settings for default sms app? Also your not using Google restore option are you?

I was wondering if you had any luck finding what causes all the text to go to hangouts. I can receive MMS through messenger but not SMS. I thought I was the only person with this annoying problem. I was about to order another device but there has to be a solution to this problem.

Dray,
I did eventually solve it, though the problem persisted even after RUU. It turns out that the issue was with Google Voice. I don't use Google Voice, but I flashed a ROM that had SMS turned on in Google Voice by default. When I flashed a new ROM, sms was still being handled by Google Voice despite neither Voice nor Hangouts being installed on my phone. You should go into settings in Google Voice and make sure sms is turned off. If the app is not installed on your phone, download it and make sure it is turned off anyway, because as aforementioned it was affecting my sms even though Google Voice wasn't even installed. This should solve it.
