So how much data do you norm use? How much have you ever used? What are your typical data speeds?
Previously for me, the most I had used was just over 25GB in one billing cyle (im grandfathered in for Unlim data).
Well this month I wanted to see what kind of damage I could do. Eventhough I didnt start using HEAVY data till the 18th of Jan (my cycle is the 1st-1st), I still used A LOT.
Keep in mind that not even 1 full GB was due to tethering. It was almost 100% on my phone.

Holy hell... certainly getting your moneys worth, eh? lol
I'm at 57.523 GB on VZW for this cycle....
We had some annual refresher training for work...and all my buddies were using my hotspot. And I do use it for my tabs also.....and I flash a lot of roms so therefore have a lot of downloads.
I've been a long time customer of VZW (approx 15 years) and normally I avg 5 to 10gb per month, but this darn 4G is so addicting.
Wow, you guys are insane (in the good way). I barely pull a measely 1GB monthly on my phone. Perhaps I should start tethering my phone to my laptop and watching Netflix shows regularly.
I did 4 last month, and I had 4g for 2 weeks max. I use Wifi a lot, so that cuts down on my data use..

Yeah, same here. WIFI at home with a 100Mbps internet connection. 4G/LTE is great, but doesn't stand up to my broadband connection.

So as we all know.. last billing cycle i used over 100GB of data.
Today i went in and dropped off my parents plan, my wife dropped Sprint and we started our own plan. I made sure that my unlim data was staying with me.
So everything was taken care of and while we were setting up my wifes new phone, she picked up the Droid 4, the rep who was helping us said he had to take care of something urgent on our plan. Ummm ok...
So after the phone was done i walk over to him and ask whats up. He said the unlim data didnt stick annnnnnnnnnnnd ive got an overage charge from data.

This is just blatant abuse of the unlimited data plan. No offense but I'm also rooted and have the free wireless tethering app and I barely go over 5gigs/month. Why anyone would purposely be a big humongous blip on Verizon's radar and openly brag about it is beyond me. I believe most of us that are rooted try to fly below the radar like me and not abuse the unlimited data plan. Like I said no offense, but it was customers like you that was one of the many reasons why the big wigs in big reds glass towers decided to end the unlimited data plan and move towards the tiered data plans.

Ive heard of ppl CONSISTENTLY hitting 50+ gigs month after month..
I did this just to see at what point they would throttle me.. and it never happened.
Even on a normal month just using Netflix, few hours of Pandora each day, and torrent a tv episode a couple times a week.. Im regularly hitting 6-10 GB with ZERO tethering.
lol $52,000 holy crap man!
Well my post earlier I topped out at 68gb....and I'm only at 1GB this cycle
I had a lot going on the last cycle to bring it that high. I mean I have to purposely try to get above 10 to 20 gb....
Wow 102 GB is insane. .. I use an avg of 4 GB per week . Data is cheap in Airtel India ..
4 GB comes around 6 dollars.
Just interested to see howuch people are using in data a month. Apparently I'm doin around 13gb a month

I use 4-15gb a month. Those extra game downloads (1.3gb for max payne) can add up quick.
Averages around 6gb, think it peaked at 10. I don't use wifi though as I don't see the point if paying for unlimited.
I did exactly the same things on 3g for a while & data used was cut by at least 50% but it's too damn slow.
I rarely break 1 gb even though I have unlimited data. However last weekend I was at my friend's when his internet went out so I tethered his whole network to my phone and in one night hit close to 2gb used. Only a few days left in my billing cycle so I'll probably end up around 3 gb.
I fluctuate between 8-11gB/mo. This tiered data thing is really gonna cramp my style, cuz I have no idea how much my FB queen uses. But she's on her Rhyme probably more than I am on my Rezound. But hers is only 3g, so I guess it can't be that bad.
Funny/sad part is, the HTC Rhyme is so slow and buggy that the poor baby wants to throw it against a wall half the time. It's soured her on android so much that she's thinking about jumping ship to the iCrap. Wait till she sees the Galaxy S3. She'll come around.
About 12gb

Between 2 and 10 depending on whether or not it's hockey season. I use NHL Gamecenter all the time during the regular season (tether my phone to my TV for full games on my big screen...wish the resolution was higher ) to show games my cable provider doesn't give me. During those months I use quite a bit.
I use anywhere from 2 to 3 gb a month and that is with having wifi on whenever um at home. Strictly 3g where I live also so that probably makes a difference.

Yea mine fluctuates also depending on a lot of things but it has rarely gone below 3gig a month and has been as high as 20gig...
i have to say i really don't understand what is happening right now with the data caps...Manufacturers are constantly making new, better and faster phones, the phone companies are upgrading their networks, and the developers are providing content to take advantage of the capabilities of these new phones and fast networks, Netflix, music, Skype etc., so many of these things are huge data hogs...
Why would the carriers limit the data so much...these new plans on Verizon are crazy expensive, i am grandfathered in on the $30 unlimited and that is a lot for me. I cant and couldn't use my phone the way i do now on the tiered data plan, i just wouldn't be able to use a smart phone any longer. i just don't get it...it seems counter productive to the whole scheme of things.
I'm a power user..
about 100mb a month.
haha always on wifi whenever possible here since the 4g sucks ass where I am. I don't wanna lose my unlimited because of the principal, not because I use it lol

20-45 GB a month.
last month i hit close to 160 gb because i left my hotspot on all night and i didnt put a password so apparently whoever was on my wifi was very happy and decided to to use almost about 120 gbs in one night dont know how dont know why but my speeds here in houston texas are very fast 60 down and 25 up so i guess they were downloading stuff thought verizon was going to say something but they didnt but i use around 40-80 gigs a month as i have no house internet but i do pay for my hotspot its the only way to keep the nat open when i play ps3 online!!!
average is about 100gb. most ever was close to 300gb. i used to tether a lot for online gaming... although every night i stream music and fall asleep leaving it streaming. i also stream videos a lot via netflix & hbo go.
No more than 10 GB a month, and usually around 4-5. My 4g service sucks and it's constantly dropping, so I use it primarily for Google Music and use wifi for any big downloads.
Used to get 30-40 Mbps down, but my speeds are closer to 5 Mbps now, so it rarely makes sense to use 4G for downloads any more.

According to T-Mobile's website, their new 4G Unlimited plan has no slow downs if you go over a set amount. So I wonder, why does MyT-Mobile page show that I have Up to 9765.6 GB of full speed data? I mean, I doubt I'll ever use nearly 10 thousand GB's of full speed data but who knows.
I saw that as well, I guess the system maybe requires some kind of integer to work with. But let's be honest who can possible use an average of 325GB per day in a 30 day time frame? Doubt our devices can dl that much per day to begin with.
I realize it's darn near impossible to do but it sure will be fun trying. Yup, its almost impossible to use all 10TB of data...unless you're downloading torrents all day, or running a high traffic server lol
Well I didn't want to start a new thread so I figured I could ask here.
I called t-mobile to switch to the new Unlimited Nationwide 4G Data plan, currently on the Unlimited - Premium 5GB plan, and I was told I would have to switch my rate plan. I am currently on Preferred FT 1500 NW and the retention department allowed me to keep myFaves with this plan, a while back. Now the rep told me that I would have to switch to one of the current Classic plans in order to even add the Unlimited Data plan. If that is the case my cost will go up around 100-120 a month in order to compensate for the minutes the myFaves is saving, just to switch to the truly Unlimited Data plan.
Does what this rep told me sound right? Does anyone still have an older plan still and switched to the new Unlimited Plan? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Actually, mathematically you should never be able to reach it. If you average 12 Mbps down, that translates to 1.5 MB per second X that by 2,592,000 seconds in a 30 day period its under 4000 GB per month. Even if you doubled that speed and were consistently using the web it would be under 8 TB of usage. Sorry, I was bored and math is my thing lol.
It probably would be wiser to switch to unlimited everything. Talk, Text and Data. $100 a month is really steep. I'm gonna go to Tmo today and see if I can make my account better. Currently I'm only paying $145 for 3 lines. My 3rd line is free till Jan 2014 because of the back to school promotion. But its only 500 talk and unlimited text. My 8yr old doesn't need data. She can connect to WiFi when shes at home.
Good job on the math. Lol

9 Terrabytes is more data than your phone could pull down if left downloading 24/7 for a month...
It's a 'limit' in the same sense that a sign stating 'Speed Limit: Speed of Light' on the freeway would be... Yeah, it's a 'limit' number, but it's physically impossible (in the most literal sense) to get there...
So essentially it is unlimited

Unlimited data interrupted by RST packets about once an hour?
Does anyone else here have their data stream interrupted regularly like clockwork getting a browser message back "The connection to the server was reset...?" It happens twice an hour, on the button for me. I heard that Tmo interrupts heavy users, but if it doesn't happen to any of you, it's got to be just me. The packets don't interrupt bitcomet, and I think they don't interrupt https, but DO interrupt http. It doesn't happen when I'm using SSH with a proxy, but that is slow, as it's a $1 proxy. Well..., anyone got an idea?
Incidentally, Tmo had a great discount for a small business plan going, it was $39 for 1000 anytime mins, unlimited txt/mms, and 5gb data (or it was 2gb and they grandfathered me 5gb). At the time it was going, a year ago, but worth checking now to see what prices are, they allowed a change for data from the 5gb to unlimited for only $5, so now I pay a few cents less than $50/mo for what I already described to you. It was as simple as paying $10 to the state registrar (your state may differ), and getting my business name, then applying online at irs.gov for an EIN (employer identification number) which was emailed to me immediately.
I took the business name certificate and EIN, along with proof of my address to Tmo, and they gave me the plan without any trouble, which surprised me, because it meant the cost of my service dropped.
Good luck.

I live in a Major metropolitan area.
I pay 70 bucks a month for T-Mobile which is comparable to ATT here (Phoenix area which is big for T-MO).
I get unlimited everything with no throttling. Last month I used about 10GB w/o a hiccup (I may have been going ROM crazy and bypassing all the WIFI restrictions on downloads since I was at work...lol). ROM - LOAD - TEST FOR 2 DAYS - WIPE - NEW ROM - LOAD - REPEAT

Yeah, I've been debating on moving to this plan since it rolled out. I currently have the unlimited data plan, 700 minutes to share between two phones with a rollover bank of about 7000 minutes since we rarely use more than a hundred combined, and unlimited texts and mms. I've been hesitant to switch because, while we are generally under 10 gigs, I sometimes get a little data crazy and we reach between 12-15 gigs combined. Do you know what they charge for overages per gig? Also, I assume that includes unlimited calls and texts? TIA for your reply

Yeah, I've been debating on moving to this plan since it rolled out. I currently have the unlimited data plan, 700 minutes to share between two phones with a rollover bank of about 7000 minutes since we rarely use more than a hundred combined, and unlimited texts and mms. Overages is $15 a gb if you go over. If you let them know before you go over you can change your plan to higher data for $10 a gig more. Just go with the 10gb. That should be sufficient enough for 2 people. My wife and i have it we are on separate accounts. Just got it today and im happy that i dont have to worry about going over. Plus if you both are on the same contract you save a lot.
I just went from the 4gb plan on FAM share with 2 phones total. Went on the site to see what its about under my account and it showed my contract was 4gb for 150. It showed I could change to 10gb for 130. I definitely don't use near 10 unless I'm away from WiFi and still don't use near 10 but better to be on the safe side. I read all the fine print and hoopla and I saw nothing of extra charges or drawbacks. Took the 10gb and as I see so far a cheaper bill and more gigs. I see win win.

Aw, I looked to see if I could upgrade my data plan on my ancient non-existent plan and nope. Ah well.
Eventually one of the newer plans might make more sense, but every time I've done the math in the past, it turns out to be more expensive.
This is the mobile share value plan. If you're out of contract or you have your own phone, you get the 15 dollar pricing instead of 40. Its nothing special tbh

to me its worth it $130 phone bill for 10gb of data. and the data is crazy fast with att. ive measured a friends phone at work with speedtest and he hits 8mb/s on verizon,my old tmobile was at 7mb/s and with att ive hit 40mb/s. thats high speed data. ITS WORTH IT!!
my opinion.

For those of us that have unlimited, in Oct. Verizon will start throttling the top 5% of users IF THE TOWER YOU ARE CONNECTED TO SEES HEAVY USAGE.
4 conditions have to be met.
1. You still have an unlimited data plan.
2. You are on a month to month basis
3. You are a top 5% user (right now anyone above 5.7GB/month is in that category).
4. The tower you are connected to is being heavily used (total of all users).

saw that the other day, hopefully wont apply to me, as I live in a small town.
Sucks though
you are promised unlimited data, but not a set speed. I am on the unlimited plan and do use a lot of data but I'm fine with this. I prefer to keep unlimited data in fear of living in fear of overages and I wanna use my phone when I wanna use my phone.
I'm glad I live in a very small town.

Yeah..."heavily" is vague enough that I'm sure I'll get throttled
Actually Verizon is the last of the big 4 to do this. It was just a matter of time...
I was not excited to hear this since I was one of the unlucky "top 5%" that was throttled on 3G as they were starting to roll out 4G and try to get heavier users to buy new phones (I was holding out for a DX at the time). I can only hope they don't cripple the connection the way they did then. When on a "congested" tower I would only get between 1 - 10kb/sec down. I couldn't do a successful speed test most of the time without it just timing out and it would cripple even the most basic functions of my "smartphone" like email.
It's been said a bunch already but, this is how they are trying to get people to get off unlimited data and pay more for less. Luckily these days I connect to WiFi at work so during the day it won't be so bad but my train commute will blow if they reduce the speeds that much.
Also, there is a mistype in the first post, it is 4.7GB of data a month, not 5.7.

So when I've been doing 30-40gb a month sometimes, I'll be screwed... yay
They have already been throttling me. I can not even stream a youtube video without constant buffering. Been this way for awhile especially during peak hours.

Sprint claims they don't throttle. Unlimited means unlimited access according to them. Between how much vzw has locked down their phones, ending unlimited, and now this; I'm done with them.
Edit: I guess Sprint is throttling their top 5% too. At least they still offer unlimited plans I suppose

Unlimited on there network! I work alot in North Dakota and Northern Alaska. Verizon has great service in those spots that's why in with them now, I had sprint and changed my prl to Verizon so I could roam on there towers and was terminated from Sprint for excessive roaming (3-5gb per month for 4 continuous months).

I'm pretty sure the criteria they claim has to be met is bogus. There's 1 criteria for throttling, and that's if you have this unlimited plan. I am, of course, speaking from a sampling size of exactly 1 other person besides myself. This other person has been throttled yet doesn't eat up more than a gig or 2 per month.
I've been throttled, but I expected it. You tend to draw attention when you use more than 80 gigs a month, on a light month.
Saw an article today saying the FCC is not happy about this. What sucks is if the FCC says they can't throttle just because of the plan people have, Verizon will probably just kill the plan altogether somehow.
Edit: There are a few different ones out there. Heres one: http://9to5mac.com/2014/07/30/fcc-throttles-verizon-wireless-over-plans-to-throttle-customers/

Doubtful, 20% of Verizon customers still have unlimited data. That move would piss off a lot of customers

I guess I am really really screwed. Last month I used 118gig. The FCC says that by doing this Verizon is breaking the agreement they had with them to gain access to the LTE spectrum so who knows what will happen. I know I am tired of every update Verizon OTA's sends out screwing up my phone(s)...maybe it's time for a provider switch.
Curious myself. I renewed my unlimited contract back in November when the Note 3 came out during the so call "glitch", so I have my unlimited under contract for 2 more years.

You're on a contract, so not affected by their new policy.
