It was an honest question I guess. I mean with the new kernel it's at least somewhat possible now.
The only sad part is that no one cares about webtop.

Its not. Is impossible. Hell, not even cm7 has webtop.

Thanks
Thank you, I am disappointed, but should have expected this seeing as it is this phone. One thing I am confused on is that in twrp backup it says there is a webtop partition.

What's so confusing about that? Of course there is the webtop partition, why wouldn't it be there?
The storage allocated to webtop doesn't just simply disappear into thin air just because CM ROMs can't make use of it.

So I am losing 150 megs to this partition?

Where did you come up with this number now??
The size of the webtop partition is about 756 MB. However this is just a partition like any other and you are free to repurpose it if you know how. There are other threads that deal with this if you care to search.

"should have expected this seeing as it is this phone."??? Jeez, why get our phone if you're going to refer to it as if its a disease or something. AFAIK, no CM has webtop support, something you clearly could have used the search bar for to figure that out. But you know, ppl can't do searches anymore. Oh well.
For our device, we have the following partitions that are important for ROMs and everyday use: boot, system, data, cache, and osh. boot is where the boot.img goes, system is where the main system goes, data and cache are for app data, saved settings, ect, and on custom ROMs, osh is an extended system partition while on a stock ROM it is used for webtop.
Please do your homework before posting and creating pointless threads like this in the future. You have 3 sr members who have posted on this thread. We know what we're talking about and have been here since the beginning (I joined up late, but was following since the release). This device has been out for 3 years now. If you have a question about something, chances are very high (99.999% (I won't say 100% just in case)) that the question/topic/issue has already been discussed/brought up/investigated/researched/identified/fixed/etc.
The kernel for AtrICS/CM9/CM10.1 remains our focus at the moment, because these are the three most stable and advanced ROMs we have. CM10.2 does exist, however it has major data/network issues that need work with. When the current kernel project is complete, or at least as complete as we can get it with the maximum amount of stability, if krystian or a developer would like to do so, a 4.3/4.4 kernel will be worked on. I remain doubtful that we will see that day, but I do not give up hope.
Furthermore, webtop is dead. All current devices have tablet mode, which is merely projecting your home screen onto a tv/monitor.

TWRP says it is 150

Anyway, I wasn't asking if there was a ROM with webtop, I asked if there was a way to install one. I have searched in the past, and found something called Ubuntop. Can that work with this ROM?
Also, does TWRP do a bit-for-bit backup or by file? Because It takes a long time to even back up empty partitions like cache after a wipe.

As stated several times before, rather for the past 3 years for that matter, no CM ROM has webtop support. There are 2 classifications of ROMs (stock and custom), and a handful of types of ROMs in one of those classifications. If its clearly stated that no custom ROM supports webtop, what is left?
Furthermore, you do not read. Go back, re-read that ubuntop thread. Come back and tell this thread: 1) when was it created. 2) what classification of ROM it pertains to (custom or stock) 3) what android version does it apply to. 4) what webtop version does it apply to.

What he means is this: It probably isn't possible.
I believe it is possible, and a couple of people have attempted half heartedly to do it, but unless someone who has the knowledge to do this right is to pick this up and run with it, it won't happen. I doubt you would see this on the Atrix now in any event, as there are not enought devs to go around, and the devs we have are working on ROM's and kernels.
Sorry, i couldnt find anything either, but It would be pretty awesome to have DualBoot on my Atrix.

Well tbere's always the next device mayb it will be able to
There is a post for making boot manager work on the ATRIX I am currently using it but you have to install zip in cwm to boot rom1 and recover boot thro advanced restore for your main ROM

Well, what about this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1508017
It's in the Xperia's development forum, yeah, but the Atrix 4G is definitely a GSM phone, so I don't see why this kernel wouldn't work. Of course, I don't know anything about the technical stuff behind it--could we get a second opinion on this?
I really want to be able to have the Neutrino ROM on my phone along with a Blur-based ROM so I can use my Webtop.

SG2 with boot to gecko...No android on it!

What the Devs say about this? Do it have a chance to be better than Android?
"This year’s CTIA Wireless conference in New Orleans is surprisingly short on major new smartphones. But at last night’s MobileFocus press event, I happened across a fascinating, one-of-a-kind handset which I hadn’t seen in person yet: Mozilla’s alpha version of a phone running Boot to Gecko, its project to turn the web technologies behind Firefox into a stand-alone mobile operating system."

Honestly I don't have any details about that OS.
Thats a pre Alpha...
For sure another "player" to this market will be a good thing. More updates, more releases, more everything.
Funny thing on that picture is that it is an International sg2 but there is an AT&T logo there. Check the pic.
That's most likely the carrier its being used with, which is perfectly normal considering the tech site is probably located in the US.
I think its a neat different Idea... Do I think it will go anywhere like android and ios? Not really (would be cool if it did).
I would flash it, but only when its ready for our phone. I would love to at least try it. Who knows it could be the next best thing since the cheese wheel!

There is a flashable zip somewhere in the original thread in the i9100 forums. I'm using it, I just don't get to use it because I have to build something which I can't do...
i777 with B2G
Boot2Gecko uses a different kernel from Android, still Linux, but with many different things compiled into it. If you go to the page with the i9100 image, you'll see a .tar.md5 image, which is really just a TAR image with some extra. You can untar it and get out the boot.img, which is the kernel. You can then use ODIN to flash the image, and if it is inoperable you can use Heimdall to flash the boot.img directly as the kernel. I stopped quickly with this because my i777 only partially worked with no radio on the last try, and it became unusable quickly. It was also getting extremely hot near the top of the unit, so I went and flashed back the AOKP image I had been using previously.
My attempts to build from scratch have been unpleasant to say the least, and it seems the Nexus is on the list of hardware along with the i9100, but the i777 and i9100g and others are not on the roadmap yet.
For those who want to know what this is, it's a Linux kernel that boots into a special version of Firefox, and then uses web documents and web standards to do everything. All of the OS is coded in HTML5/JS/CSS and has new JS implemented for controlling and using the phone's hardware. The "apps" are websites that are accessed remotely and then cached so that they do not have to be updated until the remote version changes, so the OS can upgrade extremely rapidly.
I'm looking forward to seeing this remove some of the mess made by the manufacturers and providers, and to see some much needed user control brought back into the system.
Big question since i'm brazillian, WHY BRAZIL?

hi... i have been searching for a rom which is as close to stock roms provided by samsung.... read sumwhere samsung i9000's rom has been ported to vibrant but i couldnt find any... ic anybody knows anything abt this or any other gb rom with touch wiz, plz let me know...

Using Odin to go back to stock would probably be a best way to do it, but if you're dead set on a ROM you could look here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1036193
And specifically here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24149078&postcount=224
Hopefully that link still works, but if it doesn't I think that Moped Ryder has a thread where he rehosted those files. You'll have to look around for it though.
Nice thing about that ROM is that it comes rooted, and busyboxed for you.

I know your asking for a GB ROM but you should really move on, Chimera 1.1 is the future. Go ahead and install Chimera 1.1 ROM, if you don't like this ROM then something is seriously wrong. I would recommend Platypus kernel if you do switch over. Chimera comes with a custom installer with multiple options for kernels, apps, keyboards etc. The custom installer is awesome, you can literally set it up to install whatever you want and whatever you DONT want. www.team-passion.com is where you will find it, try it seriously! Worst thing that happens is you don't like it but its really the best ROM i have ever used, period. If you do install, choose apex launcer or even samsung launcher if you want the samsung look, the cndlauncher has problems so do not install it! O yea, 911 has been proven to work on chimera also, try it dude.

But it doesn't indicate that 911 works. One person on a forum does does indicated that it works. Each build varies and each area varies from what Ive seen.
I have no problem suggesting an ICS ROM, but I would like to see more folks at least warning of the ICS Encryption Unsuccessful bug.

From what Ive read it literally encrypts partitions making odin or Jtag useless. The "fix" is actually a work around from what I see. You substitute your external sdcard for android required partitions.

No to go too far off topic, but if you are running ANY ICS rom, you need to be aware of the risks of this bug. It doesn't descriminate. Just yesterday, someone Odin'd to JFD and flashed all the way to ICZen (which has been the least effected ROM) and got it. Fortunately he was able to somehow get it back to full working status, but if you are unaware to what this bug is, I suggest at the very least to make a backup of your internal_sd. The internal is what gets Encrypted and right now there is NO key and only a handful of people have come back from it. There is no solution or concrete cause for this bug.
Good Luck.

JBQ from Google confirmed in a post on a Google group that Android will assume any partition that doesn't contain valid data or zero is encrypted:
JBQ said:
Yup, with encryption support in ICS, Android has become a lot more
picky about having all the filesystems initialized with valid data,
and mistakenly assumes that anything that's not zero or valid is
encrypted, refusing to go any further.
In Gingerbread and before, anything that wasn't valid was expected to
be invalid, and Android would just re-initialize it, regardless of
whether it was zero or not.
You're lucky you didn't have to work with Honeycomb, where zeros were
considered encrypted.

If you read the EU threads, it's obvious life goes on post-EU. I got hit a while back, partitioned an external sdcard, and then used the emmc / sdcard swap to deal with the loss of access to my internal sd. If I get hit again, it's much easier to manage the situation with a portable ext sdcard. For one person, it was as simple as a chkdsk from a pc fixing the issue without losing any data.
Everyone's risk tolerance level will vary, but the benefits / performance and dev progression of ICS far out weigh any reason for me to consider downgrading. Imo, it's nasty, yes ... yet a manageable situation as long as you know the risks (and be proactive about backing up your data to another device or cloud acct).
Since EU, I religiously keep my TiBu data sync'd in Dropbox and consciously steer towards apps with online sync / backup capabilities, etc.
Moral of the story is ... once you go thru it, it's only as painful as how well you've heeded this man's sage advice:

Any stock roms available?

I downloaded FreeGee and would like to uninstall it once the Jelly Bean update comes out due to lack of dev support, but I have discovered that there is no easy way to uninstall it unless I flash a stock rom back onto my phone (AT&T LG Optimus G). I cannot find any stock roms for the AT&T version, so I was wondering:
1) Are there any stock roms available for the AT&T LG Optimus G?
2) Does it matter if I use a stock rom from rogers or will that also mess up the updates?
3) If there are no stock roms available, does anybody know how to uninstall FreeGee?
Thanks.
You didn't see the stock ROM in the development section? Also that's why its good to make a backup of the stock rom before flashing any ROM.

I guess it all depends on how many developers you consider constitutes a "lack of" and how many = "good" support. Right now we know of three that have actually put something out, there are others working on stuff behind the scenes but how many remains to be seen. I have faith the support will come; however, if you were to survey people today, I'm reasonably certain most would call this a lack of support. Good things come to those who wait.

I guess it all depends on how many developers you consider constitutes a "lack of" and how many = "good" support. Indeed, common sense really. 1 rom in the dev section = lack of dev support. if a person can't see that, then they lack common sense.
ECF17. Ill answer your question. I see many comments above but no real answer.
There is not a stock Rom you can flash. the only Rom available is heavily modified.
What I did is went back to stock. Root, then unlock the bootloader, and deleted the apps I don't use. So I still have a ODEX Rom. Installed WiFi tether, Rom toolbox lets you easily remove the apps that you dont want (be careful) and also allows you to block ads.
Battery life is amazing. I unplugged at 6:30am and its 3:35 now and I'm at 67% and I've send over 20 emails today, dozens of text and over 1 hour screen on time.
I found that stock ODEX and debloated is the way to go. My sync is on. Facebook, gmail, box, dropbox.
The md5 mismatch was an issue I had also. The recovery that comes with the freegee. Unlock is flaky like that

Phone is finicky...

Alright, so I've been modding my phone and many others since the early days of the Captivate, so I'm pretty well versed in how all of this works. That being said, here's my problem:
My phone has become a bit of a whiny b*tch when it comes to flashing ROMs. I know every phone is unique and what works for some may not work for others. But ROMs that have always done well for me (for instance, Flappjaxxx's Unofficial has always ran flawlessly on my device) are now buggy as hell. MD5s are always verified, I fully wipe as instructed, I don't overclock... It just doesn't work right anymore. I get kernel panics and random reboots all the time.
Any insight as to just what the hell is going on with my device would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Cheers.

its been a while since I have seen a Flapp's rom on here..............
it may not have anything to do with it, but is that an unofficial 4.1 or 4.2 ?
is that the only rom?
I see your stats and know your experienced, but running a rom from Flapp tells me it may have been a little while. things have progressed quite a bit since then.
lets try this.............when was the last time you went into recovery and wiped you Davlik or Cache? could just be a little constipated.
Flapp is gone, his work only survives on his own site. I keep a copy of his ICS native ROM around because, so far, nothing has come close to being as snappy and stable. It's a sort of safe place that I always come back to. I could go weeks without rebooting and never bog down. I love it.
I still flash new works regularly, always with the necessary wipes. When I start getting buggy, I always try the usual go-to fixes. Wiping the caches, Fix Permissions, all that noise. At first, I just thought it was the rampant instability that comes with a new base. New base, new bugs. But for the last month or so, it makes no difference. ICS or JB, Native or AOSP... It's all unstable for me. Something is wrong somewhere. Something that doesn't change with wipes and a flash.
I'm just hoping that someone with a deep knowledge of Android has dealt with this and reads this post.

for what it is worth, I had some issues when 4.3 came out. was only 1 or 2 that I could run and seemed if I could run it, after about a week it would start going haywire. 2 roms would not run at all. I am not big on running an alternate kernel. the rom should run with the kernel the developer included. I posted a thread and others suggested wiping EMMC. that scared the crap out of me. my internal storage was very full. I was having to delete a file just to install another.
I moved all my music and pics to external and got rid of everything else. anything else was on Google.
I now have no more issues running whatever I want and have maybe had 2 ort 3 reboots in last month or more.
out of habit now, what I do after my multiple wipes is flash rom itself, then flash rom and gapps. let it settle for the 10 and reboot again. then set up. been a pretty solid routine
many out there still have have issues with 4.2, but I have heard of very very few reboot issues on 4.3.
good luck my friend

Lol dammit! I figured that'd be the suggestion. I was really hoping not to have to wipe my internal storage. Like you said, that is some seriously scary business. I already keep my backups and music on the external, so I guess I'll just backup my pics to my laptop and give it a good wipe.
Thanks for the advice.

cant you go blind from doing that?
don't worry, it's only natural for a young man to explore his partitions
Lol. Effin clowns. Turns out I'm far too lazy to sift through the folders. I dragged the DCIM onto my desktop and wiped that S.O.B. clean. I haven't seen 11 GB free since I bought this bastard lol. Hopefully it works out.
