[Q] Build quality - Xperia Z2 Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I have just one question because this is my first tablet. Is it normal that when Im holding the tablet then on the backside I can quite easily push the back so it bends the plastic cover a little bit inside? I know it is not from metal but...
Thanks.

Yes, don't worry about that. It's because the tablet is so thin.
Sony usually builds these devices with a bit of flex to prevent damage to the internal components.
You still shouldn't overdo it of course.

Sony Xperia Tablet S - Build Quality

Hi guys,
For those of you that have this device, what are your thoughts on the build quality?
So I've got my first replacment now, my initial device had the creaking back, this device, at the top plastic that curves around the back, where it meets the glass on the front, seems to have come away slightly at one corner. Its ever so slightly raised and is only really noticeable if you purposely stick your finger nail in.
I don't fancy taking it back, likelyhood is it would be another issue on another tablet.
Thre overall design of the tablet is fantastic but sadly it has a few quirks in the build quality,
Interested to hear your opinions.
The plastic fold on mine is slightly raised against the glass screen but consistent thru out and not just on one corner. in fact the whole surrounding edges are the same. I think this is so that when screen protector is used it should feel more level around the edges. The overall built in mine is quite good. It feels nice to hold. It makes a little creak when hold in a certain way but I can live with it. This is my first tablet and I must say im really pleased with it so far.
The build quality is excellent, except for a small creak on the edge of the back black plastic fold, which i think is ok & nothing major.
Xperia tablet has gorilla glass or plastic screen ?

Same here, I have the little creak as well, however it's not really an issue for me. The build quality is superb, feels very sturdy even though it is also very light in the hand

Not really sure as it say scratch resistant glass, but doesn't specifically mention Gorilla glass
Did Sony gives the screen protector in the box ?

i also got a small creak on the edge of the back plastic fold, i came up with this temporary solution, with a piece of light cardboard

Hi,
There is no screen protector in the box, just the tablet, power cable with usb part to plug into the tablet, you can use ac power or usb to charge it and the various documents/guarantee.
No issues here, not even the creaking - solid as can be.
For me, at the front of the device you have the glass LCD. at the top right of the glass, you've then got the start of the curved plastic that wraps around to the back of the device.
The bottom right bit of plastic on the front, at the top right of the glass has ever so slightly come away, if I stick my nail inbetween the glass and the plastic, you can see the plastic comes away a good 1mm or 2mm and is raised about 0.7mm.
I only noticed it when I purposely stick my nail in there, otherwise it's not an issue, but once you know it's there, it niggles you.
Hard to show in a pic, but, I do think I may have done it sticking a nail in to get rid of some dust.
Dirt seems to collect in between the bezel and glass.
someone who has problems with the screen? today i notice a white spot with a blue aura around it in almost the middle of the screen, it appears on a white background. (check out the photo, bad camera) I will return my tablet to Sony
(cant post links here get )

Sony Logo on Xperia Tablet S?
What is up with the hideous Sony logo on the face of the Xperia Tablet S? Is the logo removable? If not, it certainly subtracts from the beauty of the table. The clean face of the Sony Tablet S is one of the features that make it a great looking tablet. Why Sony would want to bugger the face of the Xperia Tablet S with an eyesore logo is bewildering.
To me the logo is just great, love it that way.It just adds something extra. So you see, different opinions on that
I like the Logo. it cries premium.
I dont mind the logo at all!

Strangely when I saw it on the web, I hated the logo, however i think it looks nice when you see it, it also stops people asking me if it's an ipad, even with the unique design, I still get asked that question everyday, amazing how sheep like and stupid so many people have become!
There's a big a** Sony logo on my SXS. And some chic looks at my phone and asks if it's an iPhone. Never mind the transparent strip, or the Xperia logo at the bottom.

I've got no issue with the logo on the screen, I'm proud of my device.
Anyway, alot of companies do it. Take a look st Archos, they have branding all over their tablrt on the front,.
I saw in the store the previous model. The screen was very scratched. The previous model had a plastic screen? The new model definitely has a glass?
Yes New model has Glass Screen.

[Q] Loose Headphone Jack Cover and Water Resistance

I have had my tablet for a few days now, and when I first got it all the port covers fit really tight. Over the course of normal tablet use, I've noticed that the headphone jack cover does not sit flush with the tablet anymore. I have not used the headphone jack, so I don't know why it would have an issue.
It appears that the jack is being plugged properly, but I am wondering about the water resistance in this case. There seems to be a lot of daylight between the plug and the edge of the tablet. I really wanted to do an immersion test but I am hesitant now.
Has anyone had a similar problem? Do you think it would still work under water? I have the accidental damage policy in case it does fail, but I thought I'd check on the issue before getting it wet.
That is completely no longer waterproof.
Try fitting the flap from the corner that is lifted up first and then the other side.
loose cover
Mine is doing the same thing I don't use headphone either so no idea why it is not fitting any longer. I am either returning it or removing the cover as the waterproof feature is not too important to me.
Thanks for making me completely paranoid about my headphone jack cover -.-

Cover woes
I was very surprised and annoyed by this as the rest of the fit and finish is so good on the tablet. I have a Toshiba Thrive with port covers but they snap in well and don't bulge. I also have an IPAD 3 but am using the Sony only since getting it. I might exchange it since it was an Amazon purchase.
same here
i don't use the headset jack port but the flops are not that tight..
i have the same problem does anyone have his cover sitting tight like the one on the usb port?
if yes i will send it back to sony, if not they messed up.
sometimes mine fits good for a few minutes and than comes out slowly.
I wonder if certain models of the tablet have that problem. My cover is fine. Model is 13W21, 16 GB WiFi.

Common Issue
This issue is cropping up on the sony site also.
talk.sonymobile.com/thread/140727
A first device that I had (went back because of yellowish display) also had the loose headphone cover.
My current device is fine.
Similar problem just with Xperia Z smartphone
I have the same problem with my Xperia Z smartphone. While the headphone jack cover sits flush, it has a tendency to pop out leaving it open completely. This can happen if the phone is lying stationary and not in use. It must just be that the rubber seal is too tight in the cavity and works its way out slowly.

Thanks. I managed to get it to stick on a bit better by accident. I let my son actually use the headphone jack and when I reattached the cover it stayed in a little better. It is still not as tight as I'd like, but it is better.

Disassembled z ultra c6208

I cracked my screen while in my pocket. I actually dis assembled my phone today and was surprised by the build. The phones frame is actually poly carbonite plastic with aluminum trim added to the sides. The top and bottom trim is also poly carbonite I'm guessing for the anttenna signal. I'm gonna make a post of my phone disassembly. But the main reason for screen cracking is cause the phone is so big and so thin. The screen glass looks to only be 1- 1.5mm thick so when it flex the glass cracks. I feel they should have made the phone thicker simular to the z1 with the 20.7mp camera with a thicker battery. I would have replaced this phone with the lumia phablet if it didn't have windows on it. Windows phone is a definite no go. Anyway I strongly recommend a case that adds rigidity to the phone like the aluminum bumper case. Anyway photos attached.

Back cover is the easy part. Just use a heat gun and a plastic trim tool or plastic razor. The hard part is figuring the order of disassembly. I would have sent it back to Sony but they couldn't give me a price on how much it would cost. I also felt that added to the total cost of the phone I paid especially since I paid full pop.. And I also thought about how mad I would be if it cracked again after sending it in for repair. So im going to order a new screen assembly and see if I can fix it myself. I do work on cars for a living so a phone "should" be easy...lol. If I cant then I'll either buy another z ultra or similar phone. Not the note 3 though cause I hate touch wiz and its not big enough. I have my eye on the HP 7" tablet that suppose to have calling features as well. I may end up getting the new asus padphone.
I note that it is only a 3000mAh battery not 3050?
Here is a video from YouTube and explains how to disassemble a Sony Xperia Z...
What the hell, aren't we supposed to have a 3050 mah battery ??

I used a glass screen protector at the back of my phone and I "feel" it's sturdier than without it. Have dropped it multiple times too and it's still ok. *knock on wood*

White spot on screen/lcd

Hi i bought my honor 7 over a month ago and it was working fine until today. It was in my pocket and had a very very light fall on my foot when i bent forward and then on to the floor. There was no damage to the body or the screen, i had a hard case and standard screen protector which came pre installed on my phone so there was no scratch nothing as the fall was pretty light. Everything seemed fine but now i saw a white spot on the lcd in the middle, its not on the screen i think its on the LCD although im not sure. How can i solve it
Bring it back where you bought it for repair and hope for warranty.
The white dot is a busted pixel.

Is it diffficult to replace whole LCD screen?

My sister's Le Max 2 screen is broken and fingerprint scanner doesnt work :/. It started having touch screen problems and weird lines and is now dead. I ordered a replacement screen off aliexpress. Was wondering how difficult is it to remove broken screen and install screen? I saw some videos, but none are in english (mostly indian or chinese or spanish vids). Also, I ask local cell repair shops, but they only know major brands. It kinda of sucks she has bad experience with this phone with the screen and fingerprint scanner.
My Le Max 2 still works great and no problems.
Also, videos I saw seem easy, however putting it back together such as using glue or tape to hold the new screen in place? Which do you use? I don't have a heat gun I saw some vids heating the sides before removing screen. Any help or tips or videos would be appreciated.

As far as I know, you'll go nowhere without a heat gun, since the screen is heavily glued. You should look for more videos, since (as far as I remember from reading here) it's very easy to break the original screen or the replacement if you don't do things properly.

Nope A hair dryer is to weak for this job, in the same way a heat gun would be too much to dry your hair (you'd most probably get severely burnt).
i pulled mine off and it broke!
i used a heatgun and it does help but you have to be carefull to not overheat it. you can destroy parts of the body (upper and lower side are not metal) and the screen easy by overheating. next time i use an infrared thermometer. i think a hairdryer can do it, depends on how hot it gets. if your screen is already broken, there's nothing else to worry about. i just used heat and a 6€ suction pump (very strong). next time i know better, i wont ruin another one.

edit: look at the black stuff at the picture below. its not a hardened glue, more like window putty but more sticky (if heated up at least). if you put the old screen back it will stick together strong. a new screen may need some adhesive or tape. my screen will arrive in a few days, i plan to use double sided foam tape. i think 2-3 millimeters thickness will match. i will put 4 pieces into the corners and one in the middle (if neccessary at all).
when opening it, i inserted a razorblade (just 2-3 millimeters) and carefully cut around the screen while lifting a bit with the pump. if you pull with too much force it will break! you will not see it untill the backlight of the screen is on.
If your screen is already broken you have one less concern.
It's not that hard to replace screen, I have removed mine when I was repairing FP scanner, you can definitely do it with hair dryer, you will need a suction cup (usually they send one with replacement screen) and a razor to help lift screen also you will need double sided sticky tape.
When i was changing my FP sensor i damaged screen and had some dead pixels about 2x1 mm it was probably from heat or dent on some screws because I wasn't really careful.
Ps: replace FP sensor if you open your phone it costs about 6-7$ on aliexpress.

how is the quality of your screen compared to the factory one?
is it original or third party?
i spent slightly more because it looks absolutely like the original (sticker and labeled O-film on the backside), at least on the pictures i've seen.
Gesendet von meinem Le X820 mit Tapatalk
For now I haven't noticed any difference in screen, it is quality one but I doubt that is original.
Also replacement FP is good working for 3-4 months now, it only has some problems when it's greasy.
i must correct myself. the one i ordered is even cheaper. well, maybe they are all from the same factory.
Gesendet von meinem Le X820 mit Tapatalk
I would rate it as a quite difficult - very difficult repair as they go. Not impossible but no doddle either.
it depends on what tools/technique you use.
i would rate it pretty easy although i ruined the first screen.
to my defence i must say that i did it late in the evening after a few beers ;o)
i just couldn't wait and then regretted it...
now i have 2 x820. that's ok, will be back in job in a week, working as it-servicedesk employee/field technician. one for spare, just in case...

Yea, original screen is dead/with few cracks already. Yea I bought one LCD say it comes with tools with the tape I think. Also, is it hard replacing the FP reader, would I have to dissemble more stuff to get to it? Otherwise I'll just replace screen.
Actually it's easier than replacing the screen, you will need to remove battery and motherboard to get to it, but it's nothing very hard. Screen replacement and opening phone takes most time. So as I said before, if you're opening phone already, replace both things screen and FP.
got my screen today. there is no difference in quality as far as i can tell.

How did you put screen together, did you use tape or glue? My LCD screen came in today came with tools and some tape, but debating if I should wait and order fingerprint sensor.
Heyyo, I just replaced mine with this one I ordered and haven't noticed any quality differences and still says 1440x2560 resolution
https://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot...&orderId=85749574743245&productId=32818353673
It also came with the capacitive keys which is awesome since mine stopped working when I broke my screen.
I used a heatgun and a super cheap suction cup and some rubber gloves because damn the phone was hot.
It didn't come with the double sided adhesive tape so I ordered this one
https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00PVWMTA6/ref=pe_3034960_236394800_TE_dp_1
It was really easy to cut and put it back together. The only part that was hard was that initial heating the screen enough and separating it from the body of the device.

mine also came with tools, tape and aven a screen protector. i used the tape in one piece. it sticks together strong. if you are going to replace the fp sensor, then don't use the tape now. you will most likely break your new screen when you pull it off a second time.

I replaced both LCD and FP sensor. Broke my LCD while attempting to fix FP sensor the first time. Use a cheap small suction cup not the puller. I broke mine using the big puller. Also no need to heat it up. Few drops of 99% Isopropyl alcohol along the seams loosen up the adhesive. This is safer way to do it than heat gun method. FP sensor works great now but I lost my compass feature. Anybody can confirm their compass is still working after changing the LCD and FP sensor?
works after replacing screen, dont know about fp sensor.
