So I got these micro-USB to magnetic charger adapters off eBay. Bad idea.
I plugged it into the phone, saw the green charging LED come on.
Put my phone down, the next thing I know, my screen is off, all LEDs are off...
Now I can't turn my phone on, can't charge it in the dock.
When I connect to wall power (via microusb/charging port, NOT magnetic) I get the LED rapidly blinking. After some time (estimate >10 min), the LED turns off.
If I connect to computer, the LED will stay on solid red for 3 seconds, turn off briefly, stay on 3 seconds, turn off briefly. Looking in device manager this seems to coincide with the devices refreshing...? Windows noticed the phone was connected but doesn't actually recognize it.
I had previously had unlocked bootloader and root. Now fastboot just says "waiting for device"
Tried holding down power and volume up.
Tried going into fastboot holding volume up when connecting to computer.
Tried holding down power button (with a paper clip) several times (for up to 60 seconds).
What's going on!? What should I do?! Help! I just got this phone a week ago
Power connected around the wrong way? That could have damaged the power circuit ...

Yeah exactly what Blue said. However there is a circuit in your device that stops damage happening. This circuit is replaceable.
But even if this was damaged it would still charge. It just wouldn't detect when your device was charging or not.
So what you describe would seem more severe. What voltage was the AC running?
It would be very rear to over volt a smartphone (although it can happen)
1) Try leaving it on charge (even if no LED's are on) for an hour.
2) Then hold the red power off button.
3) enter fastboot mode, plugging in the micro USB.
4a) open flash tool and flash another FTF
(you will get to a part on flashtool saying connect a device)
4b) try to enter fastboot mode on your device over and over again. (while watching the screen of your laptop to see when it gets connected)
It may just work.
I remember helping another user have the same problem when he thought it was wrecked due to power spike. He managed to get flashtool to detect it even though it showed no screen image. Then it was right as rain again.
Worth a try
The USB was plugged into computer

I thought so. I'm going to try the flash tomorrow, as some on the web have said an overnight charge brought them back. Any other suggestions are welcome in case I can't get into fastboot.

Well it doesn't seem to be working. Here's the output from Flashtool. Any other advice? (I'm holding volume up as I attach the phone to the computer).

Hey guys,
Yesterday my 2weeks old Xperia S crashed and when I tried to reboot it just shows the 'Sony' startup logo and it keeps restarting over and over again just showing the logo.
Last week I updated to .73, I don't know if this has anything to do with it.
I already tried to fix with Sony PC Companion or reinstall the update with SE Update Manager, but both of them just gave me an error they can't connect to my device. I went to Sony Center and they tried everything but nothing worked. They told me to send it to Sony to repair it but that will take over 4 weeks until I will get it back.
I hope there is a solution to this without having to send it to Sony...
Greetings,
Wouter

Yes it lights up and i did follow the instructions with the volume rocker... It first says the device is found but then while repairing it just gives me an error saying it failed.
keep for a night in charger try again
battery level must be higher that 50% other way it will fail
I mean minimum 2,5 hours charging! try to leave it alone to charge up
I know it is difficult !
then warranty

Nope it won't void your warranty
You don't unlock your bootloader or root it.
The only thing you do is flash an official firmware, but just another way than the usual.

Downloading stock .ftf file now...
I'm still wondering what the cause of this problem could be, I was just texting my gf and my screen just froze. I rebooted the device by using powerbutton+volume up and it didn't get past the 'Sony' logo and just keeps rebooting... I'm wondering if this is just a software sided problem or if there is more going on...

if you use the flashtool!!

What exactly do you mean by SEUS not.?Thanks
it means that PC Companion (PCC) needs the phone to be on, while SonyEricsson Update Service (SEUS) does not need it to be on.

A red light is on for 3 secs or so , the its is recycling back on red and off.

The fact that the red light shows up is a good sign at least.
Anyway, have you installed the proper drivers, and disabled firewall for the app?
When I used it for my wife's Z it worked, a bit slow, but it worked.
Did you keep the Vol-Down pressed while inserting the USB cable and until the program tells you to release it?
It's some sort of deep-communication that goes way before booting Android, so it has to work...
I repeat, my wife Z showed the led light and went off in like 2 seconds, then I followed the procedure on SEUS and it all worked (with patience, it has to download the whole FW).
EDIT: oh, theoretically you have to have at least 50% of battery, if it doesn't work again try to leave it charging for a couple of hours (even if it doesn't seem to be charging, you never know) and then retry...

Ok, i assume you installed the right drivers for your PC, since it is the first prerequisite.
I don't personally know how could you have bricked the device without doing something on the system, and even then, the SEUS is (almost) always capable of reviving a dead phone for those causes.
If I were you I'd go to the next Sony repair centre, but first I'd try on another computer, maybe on WinXp where rarely something goes wrong regarding drivers and such.
If you do have another computer, try a fresh install of drivers and SEUS, and try again.
Something tells me that red led shouldn't light up if the phone was completely dead...

your primary aim now is getting the battery fully charged - original mains charger is best, keep trying with a combination of volume down connect USB or volume up connect USB, it will eventually charge, also check the USB connector on the phone for possible damage - it has been known to happen if you try to force the plug the wrong way round
Once you have the phone fully charged then connect to PC running SUS and do an update repair
If USB is damaged then Sony repair center is next

When i put the charger in i am getting a blinking red light , i don't know if it is charging but i will leave it there for couple of hours and then i ll try again.
blinking red light is usually a hardware failure of some kind but I wouldn't rule out software either, the fact that it's doing something means it's getting power so USB is ok
I've got to ask this - did you have it in water recently ?
If all the water detectors under the flaps are white and you still cannot get it sorted then return it to Sony Service Center for repair
Leave it on Charge for a few hours and see if the light turns to solid red, I think you will sort it if you keep at it
As mentioned above SUS does not need the phone powered on but can be a bit hit and miss when connecting it when instructed to do so with the volume down button
---------- Post added at 12:05 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:56 AM ----------
From Sony support - the blinking red led might just be low battery indicator, anyway read below
If this happens to anyone one of you please check the following.
1. Press and hold down the power key on the right side of the phone. If the battery status LED flashes red, try plugging the charger into the phone at the same time as you are pressing and holding in the power key.
When plugging the charger into the phone there is a risk that nothing happens – no red battery status LED as indication of charging, or nothing appearing on the screen.
If the charging doesn’t start, follow the instructions under To let the charger be plugged in for 24 hours.
2. If the charging starts, keep charging the phone until it’s fully charged. Indication of charging is that the battery status LED lights up in red, or that the SONY symbol appears on the screen and then the LED lights up.
3. Update the phone software using PC Companion, Sony Bridge for Mac or Update service. If no update is available, use Repair mode in PC Companion.
This should fix the problem.
To let the charger be plugged in for 24 hours
1. Plug the charger into the phone, and let it be plugged in for 24 hours. There will be no indication of charging, since the battery is discharging during this step.
2. Disconnect the charger from the phone, and wait for 20 seconds.
3. Plug the charger into the phone again. The battery should now start charging. It may take some time before any indication of charging appears (the battery status LED lights up in red, and shines continuously).
4. Let the phone charge until it’s fully charged. Then follow the instruction to update the phone software in step 3 found in section above.
5. If the phone doesn’t charge, send it for service.

I don't think you're supposed to push power+up while connecting, instead I clearly remember keeping pushed the down button while inserting the cable...

I understand that volume up + power is meant to reset the phone.
I am connecting the phone while keep the volume down button pressed. But instead of entering flashboot mode , the red light on my device lights on for three seconds , then is going off and the above circle starts

You definetly have a battery problem here. For some reason your battery is dead or maybe its misconnected and can only powerup with cable. But for flashing you need alittle battery.power
Idk where you are living but try to take your phone to a official service/repair center. They should be able to help you AND if the phone does not power up nobody can check if unlocked already or not.
The flashing with Flashtool or SUS has to work ALWAYS since it is implemented in bootloader and normally the bootloader does not get touched while flashing roms and playing with partitions. Thats the reason Sony phones are called nearly unbrickable....
Hope you get it running somehow.

I'm having exactly the same problem...
Phone is stuck on SONY logo but doesn't proceed further. Left it overnight (plugged in) and suddenly it booted.
Now it's stuck again... I think it may b a ROM issue.
Hi, I have a .314 firmware backup from a previous Z2 that got replaced after it experienced touchscreen issues. Now, I rooted the replacement Z2, installed TWRP dual recovery, and then restored the .314 image into the replacement phone. As soon as I rebooted, the phone died. It won't turn on. I tried pressing the red button beside the SIM card slot for 3 seconds but it did nothing. I tried pressing the volume up or down buttons while pressing the power button, nothing. I tried holding the power button for 10 seconds, but it did nothing. Is it a no-no to flash a ROM image from one Z2 to another? What can I do to revive the phone? Thanks.

Thanks, but I've held the power+volume up buttons for as long as 3 minutes and nothing happened. Any more ideas?

It doesn't respond to the PC and Windows doesn't detect anything. I tried rubber bands and when I did, the Z2 LED just flashes red 3 times and that's it. How long does it need to be like that? Any more ideas? Thanks.

Try charging
You need to get it into a state where it can enter flashmode, try some things

OK, I got the phone to vibrate 3 times by holding the power and volume up buttons, THEN inserting a charger into the USB port. But Windows and Flashtool still refuse to recognize the device. What's next before I take this to the service center?

Reinstall your flashmode, fastboot and Z2 drivers
You can find a drivers.exe in the folder
Also leave it plugged in if it says installing device drivers in your disk tray

Still no luck.
I've reinstalled the flashmode and flashboot drivers, as well as the Z2 drivers, but when I connect the Z2 to the PC, Device Manager doesn't detect anything. Sometimes, it recognizes a "USB input device" but it disappears and there's no way to force Windows to recognize the Z2 drivers.
Here's what I get using Flashtool:

Since it won't detect flashmode, I'm forced to cancel it. I have almost given up.
I "accidently" wiped my entire phone (dalvik, system, cache, data, internal) in twrp recovery because i was stuck in a bootloop and installed envi-rom 0.2B and the phone was able to boot normally and get the phone working again.
After getting my phone to turn on and working again i wasn't able to use flashtool and it looks like this:

LED blinks red, green, then turns off and flashtool doesn't detect it all.
Afterwards i need to use the power button and volume up key to turn off the phone and reboot.
I also tried via sony pc companion and the phone update itself to update and get 17.1.2.A.0.314 but that didn't work either.
Occasionally flashtool gets stuck on installftkit:

05/010/2014 14:10:44 - INFO - Running installftkit as root thru sysrun
So i can't update by flashing, pc companion, or via phone. It would also work if anyone knows how i can update without flashing.
-Sorry for long post, just wanted to provide some background info.
Im having a similar issue!
Except i cant even boot up my phone, it shows sony logo, then goes to the boot animation sound but the screen is black.
I need to get my phone into flashmode for pcompanion to repair it, but when i try to, the led flashed red, green and off, very quickly.
Please can someone help? I can't use my new phone

According to the pc companion it should stay green and also it doesn't notice the phone connected at all :/
Yeah pressed those buttons and tried the options i found on other threads (re-installing drivers, using different pc, etc.) still nothing. I don't have the original wire that came with the phone but i doubt that has an impact.
It's the same with me
Make sure usb debugging mode is on for a start.
Pick the firmware you want to flash and let it prepear.
When it comes up saying please connect your phone. Make sure your phone is off. While plugging the USB into the phone hold down the vol down button. It will then connect and proceed to flash the firmware

Yeah from there and from the flashtool set already and it didn't work either time.
Has anyone found a fix to this yet?
I still can't flash my phone or update the software.
Dude if your rooting do it on the new root tool I did it and now I'm rooted

That's not the issue, I'm already on rooted unlocked bootloader. My problem is I can't update through phone, pc, or flashtool.
If it means anything the noise canceling isn't working anymore either so I think it might be that those original system files are gone. (for the noise canceling, flashing, and maybe other stock functions I haven't noticed)
Hope that helps anyone get an idea of the situation.
Any fix about this? I also have the same issue

Wich version of nougat do you download? I flashed same as you and it works. Wich version did you download? I downloaded aosp_d6503-20161109-7.1NDE63X-Rcstar6696-N.zip
Try this
Change your USB port to annother and even change cable.
Then download twrp 3.0.0.0 and rename it to recovery.img. from Nougat 7.1 thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/general/rom-android-n-rom-xperia-z2-t3444169 and download aosp_d6503-20161109-7.1NDE63X-Rcstar6696-N.zip thats what i downloaded but cant run Pixel addon im getting FC on that so i just flashed ROM, GAPPS and SUPERSU.
Now Hold vol+ and connect usb cable to phone and wait until you get blue light.
Then write fastboot flash boot boot.img
Then write fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
now disconnect cable and power on phone. As soon you see SONY logo press vol+ several times and dont stop until you enter TWRP. Now wipe everything except SD card. Then flash and skip clear cache ****. You can clear cache after you done everything then reboot
---------- Post added at 11:16 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:13 PM ----------
Annother question. Can you turn off the phone? You know about that red button beside SIM card? hold that until phone vibrates and turns off and then hold vol+ and connect cable
