Hi.
It is known that you can use an USB Jig to get into download mode and reset the counter for custom-rom flashing which is used to keep track whether we did something that voids the warranty.
In the below thread post I found mention that there might be another counter that counts the number of times this counter has been reset:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14284729&postcount=13
Does such a counter really exist?
If so, might Samsung use it to deny warranty?
If it exists, is there a way to also reset that counter?
Thanx in advance!
Does such a counter really exist?
Possible
If so, might Samsung use it to deny warranty?
Maybe
If it exists, is there a way to also reset that counter?
No
Work in progress .
jje
why not ask on that thread then?
I now did here. Also sent a message to Chainfire..
Lets hope on some update...
Where does this rumor come from about such a counter?
If it exists, the USB JIG may not help with warranty at all...
Noone interested in this?
Anyone have an idea how the changes are on such a second counter and if Samsung might use it to deny warranty?
I already got an USB Jig but still worried to use it..
Also, when rooting - can I make up a backup of my kernal to restore it after rooting so the Warning triangle goes away (if so, how?) or are there zip files to write with CWM of the stock KE7 kernel already?

Read the post it has it all covered .

I searched... Had to look more closely since in the first few pages nothing about flashing original kernal was mentioned...
I finally found a thread that explains this clearer and has original kernels:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
It would still be nice to find out if the mentioned second counter exists or not...
It was either chainfire or supercurio (cant remember which) who said there was an internal counter. Not might be, was. I do remember their post being on using a jig to reset the visible counter in one of the threads. I was not able to pull it on a search either.
We won't really know if samsung will look at this hidden counter that has yet to be found....
From what I know there is believed to be a hidden counter based on some code that seems to point to it, however the counter itself has not been found hence why we have no way yet to reset it.
Samsung may choose to ignore this when warranties are considered, for all we know they might ignore the ODIN counter too, but its unlikely.
Anybody sent a SGS2 back to Samsung after a reset with an USB JIG?
Just worried about my warranty.
+1 There are several of us in the AT&T SGSII forums that are wondering the exact same thing.

It was never proven to exist, but it was referenced in code. There is a valid reason to be cautious with a $600 device.

Thanks man! Let the rooting commence
I've heard there's a secret band on ninjas that attack you at night once your flash count reaches 500.
Rumour is that they dispose of you without a trace so there is no evidence that they actually exist at all.
Can anyone tell me if they do exist.
I once saw those ninjas in person, but I was able to run away.

Question: If the phone were to sudenly accidently go into the microwave for a split second after the magnatron warms up of course with the li.ion battery removed, it wouldnt matter if the phone was rooted or not it doesnt work and its hardware related, problem solved. Unless the have a microwave counter
As my hidden rom count was at 498 I followed the ninjas chasing the poster above and when no one was looking disposed of them.
For legal reasons I canty give you any more details, however if they should rise from the dead and come after you when your hidden rom count hits 500 then the safety phrase is 'CurioCT says this is all bull****' : D

1. i cant change my kernel at all because i'm on a custom rom, i tried the phone wont turn on
2. im on the d4 rom -- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1580070
3.just bought the device please post a noobproof way
please dont metion a jig
i used the search function on xda
and all guides lead to no yellow triangle but after that i just get a black screen- nothing else
For the love of God. Use the search function. Or read something. We are not here to spoon feed you. Posts like yours are the reason devs leave us.

If you dont want to use a jig, use triangle away in original development section.

Triangle Away is for ICS ONLY. If you have 2.3.x, then a jig is the only way as far as I've heard.

Hes on ICS if he is on the rom posted above.
Wats the problem with a jig?
Mod or Die
If you don't want to use a jig, you better leave the triangle where it is. It won't harm you.

That's correct, TriangleAway is ISC only, and you should not attempt to use it on GB, it could damage your device.
The Rom you linked to is cm9 based I think. If so check out triangle away. READ 1st.

Is there like a max limit of numbers the flash counter can go upto? I see people talking about this. I'm coming from a motorola Atrix, and we never had such a thing, so I want to make sure before I root.
I want to use the toolkit to do it easily without ODIN and all so I guess my flash counter will go up one. what disadvantages does this have?
Will something like triangle away from the market reset the flash counter from our phones?
Thanks!

I usually ask 'dev' related questions like that over here because some people don't root or anything there.
but I guess I can try there
As far as I know there is no set limit so you can flash all you want however if you send your phone in for warranty Samsung would know it was rooted or had custom rom flashed and possibly not honor the warranty. With the flash counter they would be able to tell how many times you flashed a custom os. Other then that your fine.

Thats great and all, but under no circumstances should a question thread be started in the dev section. It clutters the forum.

The only problem u got is when u go for warranty exchange att or sammy might look at ur binary count and then they might avoid ur warranty. Othere then thats nothing wrong you cant tell until u goto dload mode. Plus please follow rules & post in correct section. Thank you.

Can i use a jig without returning to stock and that triangleaway app doesn't support i777s wouldn't it brick my phone
If the jig doesn't work, it means you have the newer bootloaders where they patched the jig fix. I purposely downgraded bootloaders because of this.

I also want to know when I go back to stock, will the phone get blocked again and imei go back to the blocked one
Thx in advance

don't you read the above 2 post ???
Try the "Firmware Upgrade and Initialization" in the Samsung KIES. It will reset everything according to your serial number provided.
However, I don't know whether it is helpful to you because I didn't experience the same before.
