Anyone know how the exchange policy works if you used AT&T next to get this phone? I got my dad this phone on the AT&T next plan since he loved playing with mine so much. His keeps rebooting in a boot loop, and has a dead pixel. Stock, and used only for two days.

They will exchange it like any other method of buying the phone. Which, this sounds like a warranty issue so the 14 days shouldn't matter.

I have to go through warranty? Can I just go back to the store where I bought it? Can it be exchanged there? Sorry if that's a dumb question.

You could exchange it if he wants a different device, but if exchanging for another m8, they will probably treat it was a warranty issue.
Mine had a defect on the head phone jack. They replaced it on the 14th day without having to pay any fees. They will only charge you if you switch phones. Even if it is just a color change

I bought my M8 at the full retail price.
I exchanged an m8 in a store that I had ordered through their website. The phone was bought through Next and I exchanged it on the 14th day. Whoever said they wouldn't exchange it for another m8 is wrong. If he is within his 14 days they will exchange it for another m8 or even a different device. After that they treat it as a warranty issue.
As a matter of fact, if you are within your 14 days and try to get a warranty exchange they won't allow you. They will tell you you are within your 14 days and should exchange the device.
How do I know this? With my m7 I ordered a 64gb in store.. It was defective.. Stores were not stocking the 64gb, only the 32.. I called to exchange it and they told me since I bought it in a store I had to exchange it in a store.. But no stores had any 64gb.. It was a hellish ordeal.. I had got fed up and tried to get the warranty department to give me a warranty exchange.. They did not allow me to... They said I was still within my 14 days. So if you're within your 14 days they won't even let you get a warranty exchange.

I purchased two S5s through Next, and it was the standard $35 restocking fee to exchange to the m8.

Within the 14 day BRE period, all warranty exchanges can be done in store. You don't have to pay a restocking fee, due to the fact there's something wrong with your dad's phone. You don't even really need to bring the original box, though it's recommended.
They might direct you to the warranty center, but should only do so if they are out of stock or you return/exchange outside of the 14 day window.
Get in there right away just to be sure.
They will recharge you a restocking fee if you exchange for a different device, not if you exchange for another m8. And again they will NOT process a warranty claim within your 14 days. Try for yourself.. If someone is within their 14 days call the warranty department.. Make up some BS abut the phone being defective and you need a warranty replacement.. They will tell you they can't process one because you are within your 14 days return period. Also I learned if you had ordered it from the website the 14 days begins at the invoice date.. not the delivery date which is pure BS.. It should be from the delivery date.
You have 14 days to replace the device for a different device or the same one but different color. If they find nothing wrong with your device, then you'll pay a $35 restocking fee(you might not depending on who you get) you'll also pay $35 to switch devices(M8 to S5 or w/e)
Now if you received a defective device from AT&T they can not decline you a replacement. I've ordered many phones from AT&T and replaced them due to damage within 14 days period. No restocking fee was charged to me.
Now unless they changed the policy since then idk
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk
factory defect == restocking fee waived
swapping "just because" == restocking fee.
i swapped out 2 M8s with zero fee, and they were willing to swap more out if i continued to find the same problem (dead pixel). Now im not on NEXT but that shouldn't matter.
Next doesn't affect exchanges or warranty returns or anything like that. The only thing different with Next is how you pay for the device itself.
Just go to the store, and get them to exchange it for another M8, they'll do it for free since the problems you have are a factory defect.

I brought the unopened box that was delivered to my home with the S5 in it to a local store and got it exchanged for the M8 with no restocking fee.
You can exchange device at the store.....no fees if it's the same device. I had gotten an Active and didn't like it so I got charged a fee to swap it out for a 32gb S4. Had a bad S3 and they swapped it out no questions asked.

Well if you go by that route might as well wait for the Galaxy S III. My point is get the phone that you like. The SGSII will be good for at least two years. I will probably get both. The SGSII for sure. If you are an Apple fan then you just have to wait once a year. So many phones so little time.

AT&T is 30 days with a $35 restocking fee (Costco is 90 days):
Equipment
If the equipment you purchased directly from AT&T does not meet your expectations, you may return or, for all equipment other than equipment sold as a "Closeout Item," exchange it at any AT&T owned retail store within 30 days from the date the equipment was purchased or shipped, except for tablets and MOTOROLA LAPDOCK TM for MOTOROLA ATRIX TM4G, which must be returned within 14 days of purchase. Equipment purchased from att.com/wireless or directly from AT&T over the phone may also be returned by mail. If returning your equipment to AT&T by mail, please retain a copy of the tracking number from the shipping carrier for your records. Depending on the reason for the return, return shipping charges may apply.
Restocking fees:
A $35 restocking fee applies to all devices (excluding tablets) purchased through AT&T, except where prohibited. The restocking fee does not apply to iPhone if it is returned, unopened, during the return period.
A restocking fee of 10% of the sales price applies to all tablet returns (including iPad), except where prohibited. The restocking fee does not apply to iPad if it is returned, unopened, during the return period.
Corporate Responsibility Users: For Apple branded equipment (iPhone and iPad), the restocking fee is 10% except where prohibited (unless the device is returned, unopened, during the return period).

Get the S2. It'll be viable for a while. Everything regarding the Prime is just speculation, and there's no telling how long you'll be waiting.

Buy nexus prime.
It is nicer than S2, super amoled plus hd screen, quicker cpu, ICS.

So, say if I were to buy it from CostCo at the 2-year price, would I be able to return it within its 90 days for a refund along with terminating the plan early (with no early termination fees of course)? So if this does happen, I should be allowed to buy the Prime for the 2-year price, right?
I'm asking this because I was under the impression that, before 90 days, CostCo only held returns/refunds for the handset itself, and not for the 2-year service plan. And that AT&T were the only ones who could offer a refund/cancellation of a 2-year service plan, in addition to the handset, but this would only be before 30 days. Is this true?

After 30 days at Costco you are locked in to the 2yrs. The 90 days is return only. But what difference would it make? If you can exchange for another model why would the contract matter?

Unless you're planning to move to VZW, no Prime for you. VZW's getting the Prime as an alternative to a SGS2 variant. Everything I've read says they have the U.S. exclusive for the device. I'd guess the exclusive would be for at least six months. I'm sure it'll have HSPA+ internationally so you could probably import one and use it on AT&T when it launches overseas. Canada might be an option too.

Costco is 14 days to return phone and get out of the 2 yr contract. You have 90 days to return the phone for money back or exchange for different phone, but your contract is till enforced. AT&T mandates the 14 day contract buyers remorse.

That has been a bone of contention. It seems to vary depending on what Costco you go into. Some CLAIM you can exchange others (I have read) say refund only. MY STORE (Union NJ) says you can exchange for another device. At least that was what the Kiosk manager was telling everyone who walked up without them even asking. However you would need to check with your specific store and see what they say. I personally know people who have EXCHANGED well after 60 days and not only at "my" Costco.
A non-corporate store can charge anything they want at any time for the devices. Why do you think some stores/websites sell for less? They can give them away for free 24/7/365 if they want. The only thing they are under "ATT control" is the actual contract and terms relating to the contract. As for the hardware, the non-corporate stores are on their own for pricing, refunds and exchanges.
All their money is on the "clawbacks" they get for selling the contracts.
Haha, yeah I understand that. I've worked in this business for awhile so I wasn't referring to the pricing differential from one company to another..
I was just wondering how costco would receive RMA credit after 90 days+serial age.. lol not important anyways. is all good.
but doesn't matter if they let you exchange then coo, win-win.
The iPhone is 14 days and any other phone is 30 directly thru at&t
What better of the Prime? only 5 megapixels camera.

I'm doing the same thing, however, I'm really liking this SG2! I have no complaints besides the lockscreen security issue, which should be easy to fix.
My friend bought a Droid DNA with a dead pixel in the screen. I told her that she should exchange it because that it is not normal. She went to the Verizon store and they said that it was not a big enough of a deal so they would not exchange it for the same phone but only exchange it for a different phone with a 35 dollar restocking fee. So she ended up getting a Samsung Note 2 which costs more and has a yellow screen tint issue in which a portion of the screen is yellower. Any suggestions?
Oh man that sucks. I mean, there's really nothing she can do except return the phone period. You're only allowed one exchange per phone purchase, so that move to the Note 2 is it.
She can try to return the phone and wait a bit then try to buy a new phone and see what she get's, but that's still going to hit her with another restocking fee
I thought they had a 14 return policy no questions asked? She could have just returned her DNA and reactivated her old phone then went to another store and bought another DNA.

There's a restocking fee. But yes you can definitely just return the device, she didn't have to do an exchange. I guess she figured she'd try the other phone instead.
Either way, you use a new phone, you're gonna have to face a restocking fee if you decide it ain't for you for whatever reason.
Just call customer service and them warranty replace the phone. I would also complain about the people at the store. We pay enough for these devices and monthly service no reason they shouldn't be 100% when we get them.
This is why I check out the phones at the store before I leave.

In the dna forum you said she much prefers the dna (ignoring the screen issue) right? I'd try to return it without the stocking fee saying there was a problem with the dna and she was told she had to switch to the Note and get a dna. I'd go to customer service rather than a salesman, or call verizon online.

Unfortunately after the 14 day mark, you are pretty much getting a refurb. I was also a victim of the no charging issue but got lucky as it happened on my 12th day and was able to just swap out in store for a new one.
On the plus side, I think Verizon will replace for any hardware issue such as this with a refurb for a year. At this point the phone is new enough where a refurb may not be all that bad(obviously no way to know for sure) as it may just be customer returns they are using for replacements.
Anyway, that's about as much as I can pass along from my experiences.
Good Luck
After the initial 14 days, Verizon will replace with a CLNR, assuming one is available. If not, they'll sacrifice a new phone as a replacement.
The manufacturer warranties the phone for one year. They will repair or replace the phone at their discretion. The problem is that it may take weeks for then to repair the phone and ship it back to you.

So... hear me out haha. This is all based on what they told me on the phone but they may tell you something else if you call them.
If you have a 32gb HTC One and file a warranty claim (you get one year free of it through AT&T), they will send you a "like new" device for free, then you have to send yours back to them within ten days.
What they told me on the phone though when I talked to them was that if I don't send my phone back, I have to pay them $210 for my "defective" unit. In reality, the only defect my unit has is that the battery doesn't last all day, I only get about 10 hours out of it.
If you don't want to send them the phone you have back, just keep it and take the charge, then sell your phone or the phone they send you on eBay for $500 and you're pocketing almost $300...
I will say again, I only heard them mention the $210 fee and didn't ask at all about that. If you currently have a HTC One on AT&T and you're having some problems maybe with it, try this out and see if it works.
Thought I would let you guys know. Don't hate haha.
In just guessing but that may result in a bad ESN or what ever it's called for not sending it in??? Maybe not idk but seems like they would be smarter than that...

That's not fraud if your phone is really broken. If they instruct you to send it back when you receive your replacement or pay $200 then you have the option of sending it back or paying $200. However, it would be fraud if your phone works perfectly fine and you are trying to get a replacement you aren't entitled to just to sell your working phone.

So just a question...
I recently bought a new phone from Best Buy and got the phone almost free with a new contract.
I made the new line to get the phone subsidized price and put it to my personal account. I plan on possibly cancelling the contract after the 14 days.
Unfortunately, when trying to unroot my phone, there was a mistake that was made partially my fault, partially the guide I read (Not here). So thankfully, I was within my 14 days. The phones bootloader was saying "Locked" and "Tampered". When I returned the phone to best buy, They exchanged the phone without a problem.
Now, since it wasn't through Verizon directly, can Verizon charge my account? And if not, If i suspend my Service for the meantime without billing, can I still cancel my service after the 14 days? (paying the ETF ofcouse)
I believe if you cancel your contract within 180 days you're supposed to return your equipment or you may be charged additionally for it. I used to work for a retailer and that was the policy, so I would assume that it would be the same with Best Buy. That being said, you can still cancel your service, but you might be charged extra for the equipment.

As far as cancelation you can always cancel after the 14 days, but you'll just be charged an early termination fee. However, if you return within the 14 days you'll just be charged the activation fee and prorated charges. You will not have to pay for the phone at all once returned, even after the 14 day policy.

So I used to work at a retailer, and we had "Chargebacks" if returned after the 14 days, but before the 180. So Best Buy does not do this? That is good news.
Now even though I returned an obviously bricked via rooting phone, they can't somehow charge me or do something to my account? If so you just made my day! (Not that you peformed this miracle, just helped me worry less lol)

Ya man I've been working their for about three years. I've returned countless amount of phones, activated and deactivated after activations and have never heard a story about someone getting caught because of a bricked phone being exhanges. All you have to do is activate the new phone on your plan once and once you do that you can deactivate it and do with it what you will. You should be straight man don't stress it.

I activated my HTC one originally with my new number. Then I switched Sims so I can keep my HTC one on my personal account. When I bricked the phone they swapped my HTC one with the new one. That one has yet to be activated on the new line that I'm cancelling. Should I activate it in that account anyway? Or screw it and just cancel with my galaxy s4 on that account still (the line is suspended at the moment and I sold the s4 since anyway)

Ya bro you should be straight because when you signed the terms & conditions it was with that bricked phone and when best buy did it in exchange the pos system is not affiliated with Verizon at all.

If you brick your phone and return it under warranty or exchange that is considered fraud and should not be discussed on this site.
