S.O.S! Zu is seemed dead! - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

Somethin' wrong is on my new Zu.
I charged my Zu with magnetic charging line, but I made its electrode wrong.
Then my Zu's screen was off.
now i tried many ways to save it,but failed.
Can anyone nice to help me?
Thx very.

This is the third time I've read about this, and I believe you'll have to send it in for repairs.
I think @hamdogg had this issue, so he can probably explain it.

I had same issue. Had the send it away to get fixed. Mine still worked, but would always think it was charging.
Just do a hard power of using the red reset button

Wait a minute, so basically if the magnetic charger touch the port the wrong way once, it's broken?

From my understanding, when u reversed the polarity it will damage the charging circuit like IC or diode...
If it still can be turned on means it a minor damage but if it cant be turn on at all then the mobo is effected...
Electronics are very very sensitive...

Wow this is crazy. I bought a generic magnetic charging cable and I know I reversed it a few times trying to see which way it fit best. Phone still works fine but now I'm afraid to use the cable for fear It could kill the phone.

Phone doesn't charge the battery - scratched PCB

Hi! At first I wanted to say I didnt find any other thread which could solve my problem.
My battery stats doesnt work correctly. I mean, instead of battery status on my display I can see just a question mark.
But before everything I opened the phone to get to PCB and i scratched it near the antenna pins. Now I cant even charge my battery. It seems that the usb connecter doesnt work at all. However I dont think I broke the usb connecter when I opened my phone.
Do you know what could be the problem? Any advice?
Thank you!
Two photos of my device

[Q] Galaxy S3 (i9300) won't charge

So I got this strange problem where my phone stopped charging. I tried diffrent cables, adapters, charging it while being off, charging it via the computer and even tried to adjust the little lip in the micro usb port. Is the charging board dead? If it is, will a replacement be expensive?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Free mobile app
Well dude I think your assumption is right.
It might be the charging circuit only which may be dead.
Because as you told that you have tried diffrent cabels and chargers but still your charging is not working which means that the usb micro port through which we charge and connect our phone to computer is damaged and should be replaced .
There are many possible reason of damaging usb port like you may have drop your phone or by using faulty cabels and chargers or if u have rooted your phone then there is possibility of changing the voltage of current to more than 1000 Mhz etc etc.
You should try to flashed a complete stock rom by downloading from sammobile or directly using kies to update or re-flash your phone
you can try that may it may help you.

Nah, it won't turn on because the battery is empty.. I don't have a spare so it seems buying a new board is my only hope..
I saw there are loads of micro usb connectors on ebay. If I solder a new one on. Might that help?

You can try micro usb port which is available on ebay but it would be extremely very dangerous until and unless you know what you are doing.
My suggestion is to give your phone to the samsung care and tell then to repair it.
If your phone is in warranty then they will do it for free. You just need to provide them a copy of bill at the time you purchased s3.
Press THANKS if I helped you

[Q] USB charging not working, data connection working

I have found the Xperia Z2 to be an extremely slippery phone and it dropped to the floor quite a few times already, but the last fall seems to have finally damaged it. Now, when I connect it through USB to either a PC or power outlet, it will no longer charge. I can exchange data with my PC, view the external storage etc. just fine, but the charging icon will keep appearing and disappearing irregularly, about once per second. Meanwhile the battery gets drained instead of charged.
I now charge my phone through the magnetic port one the side of the phone, which is working fine. I would like, however, to know if there is a way to repair the USB port of my phone.
Many thanks

Seems like hard to repair. You would need to disassemble the whole device. I'd suggest you send the phone for warranty repair. Just do not mention you let it fall

Look into the Z2 disassembling videos, but I guess you should bring the device into a professional phones repair service.
@MrTheMan I think I know what bricked your USB port. The damage wasn't from the fall, you just connected the Magnetic charging cable upside down... Didn't you?
If you keep tightly in some points, dies it charge then? If not and still charges intermediate then there are two things. Either one of the lines if the port is damaged or the battery is of center. Remove and reconnect. First clean it's contacts with.a brush and pure alcohol. Do the same on the port.
Mine does the opposite, USB is fine(as long as I disconnect at 100% and don't charge with MHL adapter) but magnetic has the issue.

Hi,
I did connect my magnetic charging cable upside down. And my magnetic port is messed up now. It keeps charging and discharging when connected. It doesn't charge from a USB port and i need to plug in the adapter to a wall outlet for it to charge.
Is there anything i can do to fix this?

If I remember correctly there is one diode on the PCB that get's damaged :/
I have the same problem, due to magnetic charger..
Surely this is covered by warranty? I'm still under warranty so I will try to get a replacement.
How could they design it so poorly that it can be damaged like this....

Oh, I search some info. The diode just allow electric current pass one direction only. No wonder my XZ2 keep restart after I pressed shutdown because the diode allow the electric current from battery can pass through in opppsite way.
I don't believe it is a hardware problem. You dropped the phone but the USB port is not likely to be physically damaged by a knock. I had the same problem, on a Z2 provided by my company. I have requested a change, got a new one and in a few days the second handset had the same issue too. Two phones, both new, both never dropped, used with maximum care, both with the same problem. The second one wasn't even charged more than a couple of times before failure. And I had tried it as soon as I had it in my hands, just to be sure it worked, and it did, at first. I connected it to a laptop thru USB port (3.0) and it charged. Then updated apps and system to Lollipop, connected it again and it failed. In a couple of days. I'm sure nothing physical happened, unless my USB port fried it. Notice however, that data connection is working perfectly and everything else I connecrt to that port works as well.
I have some mag chargers too, and I don't believe I've ever connected them upside down. The plug is made in such a way the it does not connect if reversed, having one contact circular shape and the other elliptical.
I checked on the Web and there is a number of Z2 owners complaining for the same issue: there's even a video on Youtube showing this exact behavior. Sony seems to ignore it.
I must admit, however, that I'm unable to explain why a factory reset does not solve the problem. Now I'm trying to flash a stock ROM (mine is branded Telecom Italia) and see what happens.

Did you repaired your device. Please relpy this
Phone 2 years.
1. Charged through the USB port on the network 220 (native charger):
It reaches 81-83% of charge and starts to go crazy: flashing red LED charging and says that is / is not going to charge.
In fact, no charges.
I tried different cords and chargers - so everywhere is going crazy with a 80% interest
2. Charged via USB from the cigarette lighter in your car or the external battery:
It's okay - safely charged up to 100%
3. Charged through the magnetic cable:
It's okay - safely charged up to 100%
These are symptoms of what is dying?
Thank you!

Cheap magnetic charger can ruin your Z2

I just wanted to share with all of you my experince with some cheap magnetic charger which i bought from ebay for 3 or 4$ for Sony Z2. Cause i didnt know how to connect magnetic charger cable to the phone, and of course i connected it in wrong way,( +- reversed?!) my phone couldnt wake up. I tried charging through regular wall charger but phone still blinked ORANGE for whole night ( cca 14 hours) and still wasnt able to turn it on.

Hey.
What happened to me happened to you.
I connected a regular charger only way I could turn on my device.
He turns on and turns off intermittently.
And at the end turn on.
What is a magnetic charge screwed.
And when I charges the device to 100% is starting to turn the power on and off as if he informs me full
And when I connect the device drive is not able to work well is acting as if something touches the screen and he can not recharge.
This thread should be renamed to "Cheap magbetic charger can ruin your Z2 if you're an idiot".
Sorry, but it takes a fair bit of effort to reverse the magnetic charging cable.
Hey, don't be so rude. It's not really this much of an effort. As far as I have seen in cheap magnetic cables the pins are not hidden and they are making contact with pins in phone without any effort. Original connector has a little bit retracted pins and won't damage your phone.
That's why I'm big fan of original or at least high quality accessories.
It's not that hard, in fact. Most of the cheap magnetic cables can be connected the other way around without any special effort. I did so for both Z1 and Z2.
Z1: Phone turns off, but works fine after disconnecting the charger.
Z2: Phone doesn't recognize the charger. No reboots. No damage.
( Of course, your mileage may vary... )

I'm not going to apologise for what I said. It actually does take a fair bit of effort to muck this up.
The Z2 has different size plastic mouldings around each pin which makes it quite difficult to actually reverse the magnetic charger, even the el cheapo ones.
In addition to that, don't you think it would be weird if the cable for the charger is going vertically up the phone, instead of going straight down towards the microphone?
So, this goes back to the OP, don't use a scare tactic title for the thread when the cable clearly isn't at fault.
This thread just says to me that people don't pay attention or to the very least, they don't do a simple bit of research first.
mine is worst. the magnetic charge port from my z2 come out from the phone.
Yeah because your an i***t. It's not the chargers fault but your fault. If you connect it the right way there is no problem at all with these magnetic charger from eBay. S***d thread

Inserting the Z2 into a charger backwards

Hi,
Please forgive me, I know how to use the search engine and look for topics, but I am just not capable right now. And I'm not capable for the same reasons that lead to my problem. I inserted my phone into it's charger backwards this morning. No, it's not a Sony charger. It sat there for at least 30 mins and the phone is now dead. I'm convinced the battery is toast, from threads I read some time ago. Would anyone here know of anything else? Is there a way to bring it back alive before I rush out and buy one?
Thank you if anyone replies.
By charger, you mean magnetic dock? If so, you've fried your mainboard, requiring that to be replaced.

Yes, if you plugged the magnetic charger upside down, unfortunately you'll need a new mainboard. You could try to repair the device using warranty service.
That sucks, I have a cheap cable but it won't fit on backwards. First thing I tested.
