Hey,
I am having trouble with applications not showing notifications e.g. whatsapp, tapatalk etc.I was wondering if anyone has had any similar issues on the Android 4.4.2 (nc9)
They only show notifications when I go into the app.
That's an odd one... I'm assuming by NC9 this is referring to the i9505 S4?
Tell us more:
Are you rooted?
Custom rom?
Any Xposed or Notification bar mods?
Privacy mode enabled?
SMS/Call notifications work?
Does this happen on wifi and data?
Any notification replacement apps like for banner notifications, Halo, etc?
Lockscreen mods that have notifications enabled?

Sorry I must have missed it. I posted this in the S4 help thread and it wasn't answered there, I must have got the tabs in my browser mixed up.
I'm rooted on Omega V28 but it happens regardless of Rom or whether I'm rooted or not.
Calls/Texts show. Twitter/facebook/whatsapp don't
Happens on both wifi/data
No lock screen mods, notification apps/xposed mods or anything to do with notifications.
Apologies again

Hello, is there any possibility to keep the status / notification bar ALWAYS visible (for fullscreen apps for example)
I'm not searching for an app which can make the bar visible if i do a gesture or anything else in a full screen app
just keeping the notification bar always visible is my request
thank you
I'm using I9000 (SGS) with 4.2.2 AOKP
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.jskt.togglestatusbar&hl=en
I found this useful for monitoring CPU usage, frequency, temperature, RAM, when overclock benchmarking.
thank you ill definately ceck it out (;

Have you figured out how to do it by modifying the AOSP code?
Thanks
Giuseppe
Still helpful years later, thanks!
So did you ever find a way to do this? The link in the responses doesn't work anymore..

Unfortunately i forgot and i dont have the apk anymore
Hello, did anyone find a solution for this? Thanks!
Hi, I just switched completely from iOS to Android after I while I used an iPhone and a Nexus 7 together. Now I replaced the iPhone with a Samsung Galaxy S4.
I'm pretty happy, but there are a couple of things I still completely grasp about how Android notifications work.
My first issue is related to *blocking mode* and Whatsapp. I have the same issue reported in this discussion.
It seems that the app can bypass Android notification system and relies on something else. Is that true? How can that happen?
I have another concern related to the use of vibration when sound is turned on. It seems that the system-wide settings refers only to phone calls, while for other notifications I have to rely on app-specific settings. Am I correct?
Taking for example facebook app, what would happen if I disable vibration and put the phone in silent mode? Will it vibrate?
Finally, I'd like to have a iOS-like notification list on the lock screen. So far I managed to get it for some applications (Messages, Whatsapp), but I'd really like to have some system-wide properties.
Generally speaking, can you please give me a link to Android documentation explaining what aspects of notifications it manages system-wide and what is responsibility of each application?
I'd really like to see as much as possible managed by the operating system, but from what I am experiencing it seems that it is exactly the other way round with a lot of settings left to the applications.
Blocking mode is a Samsung feature AFAIK. Maybe WhatsApp is using the media channel for notifications instead of the notifications channel? Not sure.

Take a look at DashClock with one of the many extensions (e.g. AnyDash), NiLS Notifications Lock Screen, or any similar widget.
There's also Floating Notifications, which can show you (bubbles of) your notifications on your lockscreen.
Thanks for the links and for the hypothesis on Whatsapp notifications.
It seems that I have to choose either to have the pattern lock or to add multiple widgets. Am I right?
Is there any way to have both notifications and pattern lock?
I'm afraid pattern lock is again a Samsung specific feature so I'm a concerned about possible integration issues with other widgets.
What about the other question about system-wide vs per-app settings?

Samsung disabled widgets with the secure lockscreen for some reason. There's an Xposed module to re-enable it, but you need the Xposed framework (and root).
I'm not sure about the vibration question.
My device is still not-rooted and I am not very keen on rooting.
I did some research and I found Popup Notifier (Sorry but I still can't post links to external websites) that seems what I need.
I'm going to try it and I'll let you know how it works.

Unfortunately it Popup Notifier is not what I was looking for. I'd like more to have an iOS-like list of notifications rather than popups.
It also felt a bit too hackish that I had to disable text to speech service and enable the app's accessibility service.
I have the feeling that they're misusing accessibility features as a workaround to access notification information.
I see that there are custom lockers. Is it possible to install them without rooting the device? If I install one of them would I be able to setup notifications as I like, add the pattern widget and leave the rest of the system as it is?

All applications need Accessibility to get the notifications' content, prior to Android 4.3, AFAIK. Or root.

You can install custom lockscreens without root, but you'll also need Accessibility.

Did 4.3 introduce new APIs to let applications access notifications?
Is there any new app that already uses them? I'd like to try them on my Nexus 7 and then use one also on my S4 once Samsung releases the updated version of the system.

Applications can now use notification listeners, which allow them to detect new notifications (and when they're cleared) from an app. I think Floating Notifications uses it if you're on 4.3, but it's not exactly what you want.
Yes,unfortunately it's not what I'm looking for. I'll keep checking. I hope new app relying on the new features will be published soon

I came across a few DashClock extensions which do that, although for specific apps. You might want to try a few and see if this is what you want.
Hangouts DashClock Extension
WhatsApp, Facebook, Viber and LINE (4 different extensions) by Tiger-Workshop
You'll need DashClock for these, of course.
Other than that, there's DynamicNotifications you might be interested in. Not quite what you're looking for, but it might do the trick for now.
DynamicNotifications seems very cool. I'll give it a try

Just in case you don't read the portal, this DashClock extension does what you want by using the notification listener features, instead of Accessibility services.
Thanks for sharing the link! I'll give it a try. It is very promising

I tried to use it on my S4 but I cannot set the widget.
This time I can't even disable the lock as I reported in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2472070

Do you guys know of any (notification) toggle to quickly disable/enable lockscreen? In the notification panel Android unfortunately doesn't seem to have such a toggle build in. With the previous build, Jelly Bean, some widgets from the Play Store seemed to work, but not anymore.
And perhaps someone knows a good app/mod to put back shortcuts on the lockscreen itself as well?
Thanks in advance!
Dennis
Anyone?
Really no one else is having the same needs for a lockscreen toggle in KitKat?

Thanks. But it seems a bit of a hassle for a lockscreen toggle widget. It comes bundled with a lot of mods... So it seems...
I really appreciate your help, but I'm hoping to find something more simple/less invasive...

Hi. It's not that I'm bothered by the icons. It's just seems to come with a whole lot of other mods, as far as I can see. Or am I missing something?
Nothing personal, but I wonder why I seem to be one of the few who is looking for such a toggle . It seems such an obvious need? Haha.
Try xposed and gravitybox module.

Thanks very much, but what does it exactly do? Regarding the lockscreen, the developer says a few things:
- Lockscreen targets
- Lockscreen tweaks, regarding theming.
- Lockscreen rotation
It does not say anything about a "toggle" to switch it easily on or off. It also needs a framework to be installed, and a lot of other tweaks/mods come with the module, that I'm not sure I would like...Plus, I read in that forum, that the lockscreen features are not working.
Anyway, it's 2014, there's not any solution anymore to just have a widget or something for it? Like with previous android versions?

Gravitybox will allow you to add/organize/customize the quicksettings tiles (like the lidroid from the other post), including a lockscreen toggle. There's lots of other tweaks too, but you don't need to use them if don't want. And yes, you'll need to install xposed framework, but it's easy, there's and app for it (xposed installer). If you're interested, search for xposed or gravitybox threads.
But you just want a homescreen widget/toggle, right? Google "no lock widget".

Thanks. I just generally just don't like installing all kinds of extras, even if I don't use them. A policy that kept my hardware running very smooth, where others suffer from sluggishness.
I am more looking for a widget then, yes. The one you mentioned unfortunately doesn't seem to work... I'll keep looking .
I found a few threads with the same issues here and here, but those are still unanswered. So, I'm creating a new thread to know to fix this problem soon.
I want to know how to hide the 2 apps from the notifications from the lockscreen, but not from the actual status bar notification.
The 2 apps, an battery saver and 3g network monitor are essential in the notification but I don't like it being shown all the time in the lockscreen. It also kinda blocks any new notification of other apps like fb, whatsapp, etc.
Any help is appreciated.
Attached the screenshot of the lockscreen.
PS: My first post here so plz let me know if I miss anything.
Go to settings>apps chose the app you want and uncheck show notifications
Then it won't be shown in the notification bar either.

Ok. thanks for the info. Lets hope there would be some patch released in the future by Google.
There is one more bug in the lockscreen in the new Lollipop as one has to swipe-up and then use pattern-lock to unlock the phone. Earlier we have to use pattern-lock only and no swipe-up.
