S3 is rooted and it has CWM 6 recovery.
Today, I was trying to flash a custom rom (UltimaROM) but the installer crashed at the end, resulting in a soft brick (stuck boot logo forever).
I was told to follow the steps again and pray for a success. But somehow, the custom ROM .zip file from the S3's internal SD got deleted. So, I don't know how to put the custom rom back into the SD again. There's no USB storage in CWM 6, so I cannot transfer the zip file - unless I'm missing something else.
I don't have an external SD, either, but I do have a backup of my working ROM. However, my backup ROM isn't on the internal SD as well. All of the stuff are on my PC.
Is it possible to re-flash my backup ROM via Odin? If so, how?
If not, I'd re-flash my Stock ROM and start over again... but the problem is I don't know how to find a correct stock firmware for my S3. It's been almost 1 year since I rooted my S3. Samsung KIES doesn't even have the special information (sale code?) for my S3... unless I connect S3 to PC, but I get problems (Kies stuck on connecting)
Thanks in advance.
read the basics to find out how to flash a stock ROM.
or push a custom one with adb from recovery.
Use Ultima Rom again or any Custom ROM (or your backed up ROM ) and flash with Odin... Look for pre-rooted Stock if you want to stay Official
BUY SD card ffs so you won't have problems like this in future

Hmm, I can flash UltimaROM via Odin?
How? Odin won't let me select a .ZIP file to flash.
As for flashing a backed up ROM via ODIN..........a CWM backup is .ZIP (Image.zip) or system.ext4.tar? But if it's tar... there are two .TAR files in my backup ROM... doesn't Odin only use 1 file?
I seriously don't know this stuff.
Use Odin and flash pre-rooted Stock Rom from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30028854
After that simply copy your backed up Rom or Ultima to internal SD, reboot to recovery and restore/install it.
Get yourself a micro sd card fhs... cost nearly nothing ; D

So, installing one of these stock roms won't cause any extra problems? Doesn't installing a wrong stock rom make S3 unrecoverable?

Can i restore .tar using Odin?
If your 'original' rom was before MG4 then no, it won't work.
Instead go forward, either MG4 or later, with your stock rom choice -instead of tinkering with your efs.
To my knowledge odin can only install a .tar if that container has a .img file inside. This depends on how you backed the efs up.

Thanks but i dont want to stay rooted anymore as i need to sell my S3 It seems there is no other way for me to use the stock firmware as my efs partition is now using the mg4 format. Well, here we go!
DL stock firmware and flash through odin. You will then have 'emergency numbers only' situation.
DL Philz recovery .tar from here and flash through odin: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2002953
Have the XXEMG Radio on your sd card and flash it through Philz recovery. You have the option in Philz to install root, take it.
Download Triangle Away and use it to get rid of your flash counters.
DL Stock recovery from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2323847
Flash it though Odin.
That's it, you should be good to go and completely back to stock.
Don't forget to thank all the people who put this together.

Transfer the zip file to the root of your internal storage or external sd card.
Turn off your phone then boot into Philz recovery.
Select install zip
Then either choose zip from sdcard or external sdcard depending where you have put the file.
Select xxemg4 zip and do the install.
When install has finished, back out and reboot system.
Do a couple of reboots just to bed things in.It will probably take a couple of hours for the radio to settle down..
Just an afterthought, when you have finalized everything, go into settings>app manager and uninstall Triangle Away. Then use My Files to navigate to internal storage or external sd card and remove any files relating to Triangle Away.

Sorry it took sometime for me to check and update again my S3(been busy these few days). Ok the good news is almost everything works.Imei and signal is back with stock rom.Now the bad news is,i cant get it back to normal status,it just says modified.I flashed back to stock and yes the status is normal but its back with the Imei problem.I guess theres really nothing i can do but let the phone stay rooted if i want it to work or maybe flash again a stock rom but from another region(atleast the phone would still get the official sammy update). Or probably wait for 4.3 official Rom. After this horrifying experience im just keeping my note 2 stock but rooted.
Sent from my GT-N7105 using xda app-developers app
That's good/bad news! At least you now know that you can get back up and running again if you hit problems. I would suggest that you now back up your EFS partition and keep it somewhere safe.
So your current status is, stock rom installed, stock recovery installed but the bootloader screen still shows modified, is that right?
Try running Triangle Away again, it may or may not work, and see what happens.
I'm running the JB 4.2.2 official leak with Philz recovery installed. Just to check, I ran Triangle Away again and got back to Official in bootloader. I then flashed the stock recovery through Odin, done a reboot and booted into BL it is still showing official with the flash counter at 0.
So to all intents and purposes, I am now completely on the official stock rom and should a 4.3 update come through I should be able to install it.
Anyway, if you install any roms in the future, you know that installing the xxemg4 radio will get your status back to normal.
Remember to back up your EFS partition.
Im still on philz recovery even after i reset the counter.Do i have to manually flash stock recovery through odin after reseting the counter. But i noticed the first time i reset it,it did show official on recovery but as soon it booted to samsung i checked thr status under about it said modified.Do you think if i flash the official recovery it could make a difference. And oh i did a backup of my efs(quite a few of them)but it wouldnt matter right?as the partition format for MG4 is now different. If only theres a way to put back the old partition. Thanks a lot for the help man i appreciate it

Yes it did. Maybe I should try it again, perhaps use a regular usb 2.0 cable? For some reason this 3.0 cable doesnt get along to well with my computer. First time rooting it I almost bricked it because it kept failing then I got the firmware upgeade encountered an error message when trying to boot my phone up but luckily finally it worked and all was well.
I am supposed to be putting this in the PDA slot of odin and leaving the file zipped exactly as it was when I downloaded it, correct?

The stock cable should be adequate if not good quality. Compared to the Epic 4G and cable for that I had before...
Flash .zips. Odin .tars .tar.md5 .pit or whatever it is properly. Make sure you have the correct .tar in the pda slot and use an updated version of Odin3 (3.04) and leave all the default settings as is, aside from the PDA .tar, hit start.
Edit: Also make sure to check the MD5, maybe you got a corrupt download.

Okay, so i am on android 4.3 MJ7, sch-i545, yada yada yada
I rooted the phone and installed titanium so i could delete some bloatware (when i should have just installed a custom recovery and get Cyanogenmod or something while i was on 4.2.2)
I wound up deleting some pretty important apps that i thought were bloatware from Samsung/Verizon (Downloads, Download Manager, Video to name a few). Now, i can't play a video i record, I can't open the play store, etc.
I would flash a custom rom like Cyanogenmod, but i don't think it is possible to get a Custom Recovery on android 4.3

It's been awhile since I installed a PHilz recovery, but if I remember right you get the tar file from the download, put it on your computer, put the phone in download mode (volume down and power), connect your phone to your computer using the charging cable that came with the phone. You can't install a custom recovery on MJ7. It's been posted many times.
I have no clue why anyone would actually delete the apps. Just Freeze then with TiBu to make them functionally not there. If you are that tight on space, buy an SD card.

You can try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2507217.
If that doesnt work you might have to resort to this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2507253.
Make sure you do your research first. Read, read, read and read some more.
Good luck.

I've tried downloading that 6 times and it's been corrupt every time. Do you have another mirror for that file?

No I don't. A lot of people have complained about the same issue. All I can tell you is to keep trying. Sorry.

Huh...the other one has a corrupt file too. Probably tried each around 10 times now...It's not my internet because i tried downloading an equally big file from a different website and it was fine...I woder what the problem is
Both those downloads have corrupt files unfortunately. Does anyone have a mirror to either those files or help me find an alternate solution?
Thank You

You attempted to flash a ROM made for a different phone (d2att), never do that again unless you want a brick.

Yea, look at the sticky. Anyway, it is probably something to do with your recovery. Try flashing it using cwm.

Yea, you can flash .zip versions of cwm through the recovery menu. You could also flash it through Odin if you can't find a flashable .zip of it, probably easier that way. Don't just flash any .zip of cwm you find through twrp, it has to be one made to be flashed.

You should just be able to download the recovery in this topic (.zip not tar.md5) and install it using twrp. Put the file on your external SD since you can't access your phone.

You know that the file that you have to put in odin has to be a ridiculous amount of mb or gb then other things because i made that mistake 2 lol.
You have to extract it when using your pc and stuff and sometimes you get others files like ones that arent even like 100 mb or whatever that can look like a rom.
Give me a full list of evrything you exactly do when flashing and wich file and name and how big the file is and also your model number... The s3 ATT right?
Can someone verify for me that att has an own bootloader and stuff and you can only like odin flash their stock roms right?
You can always use phillz touch recovery and download a custom rom like cyanogenmod for your phone! Then you can acces it... If you dont brick your phone.

Huh? What exactly did you do? If you flashed Philz correctly using TWRP then you should have his recovery on your phone.
I think he needs to report his post to get it moved to his section with people to help him with his exact model and the correct stickies to help him.
If he can't then someone may need to report it for him.
Either way here is some reading material I found after a quick search in your forum.

So you got Philz touch running? If so, then you should be able to flash hellfire with it (assuming that you definitely have the right rom for your phone model).

Try redownloading the rom maybe an bad download.
When it doesnt work then your phone just cant take it and try something else man.
And also ask the developer from the hellfire rom if your phone is compatible with the rom (sometimes you need to download some sort of kernel or whatever it needs)

Is this the first ROM you've tried to flash? What were you running before trying to flash hellfire?
To fix your situation should be fairly simple. 1.download a different ROM to an external SD card, I recommend slimkat because its pretty stable. They use a unified d2lte build for all d2 devices. Before you install the zip, wipe data/factory reset, manually format system, wipe cache partition and dalvik cache, install the ROM zip and gapps zip if required then reboot and profit.

I was running the stock rom. I downloaded cynogenor whatever its called but i cant put it on the sd card. It says the device is not connected. If i pull the files out of the sd card itll work. But it wont let me put the whole zip file on the sd card. Any ideas?
