Can't Establish Reliable Connection - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hello guys,
So I'm on the Verizon network and since the OTA update for KitKat has been released I've been having a problem.
Since I updated to 4.4.2 I can't seem to log into anything Google related without the error..
"Can't establish a reliable connection to the server."
I've contacted Google, Verizon & Samsung and they can't do nothing but give me troubleshooting tips.
I've already factory reset my phone 3 times, and the error still persists.
Since my phone IS NOT rooted, I can't edit the hosts file.
Is there anything that can be done in the mean time until root access has been found?

[HELP] Unable to OTA update following device encryption

Hi,
I have a Galaxy S3 (I9300), and recently encrypted the device to enable to me to use my employer's exchange email service (NHS.net). The encryption process went without issue and my phone has been working normally since (about 2 weeks). However I have now received a message for a 170Kb OTA firmware update for the phone. When I click "Update now" is says the following:
Unable to update new software. Device is encrypted. Decrypt?
Click to collapse
If I click OK it takes me to the "Security and lock screen" sub-menu in settings. In here the "Encrypt device" button is greyed out (as expected) and there seems to be nothing more to do. The update does not proceed. If I click cancel the device re-prompts me later anyway.
The problem is that my device keeps on prompting me to update with my only two options either to proceed as above (and get nowhere) OR postpone the update for up to 3 hours and get prompted again.
So now I am trapped in a situation where my device is nagging me to update but gives me no way to do so. As far as I am aware, encryption of an android device is irreversible without a factory reset so I am confused as to why the firmware update even asks for it?
Am I missing something here or is this a crappily designed security update from Samsung? I really don't want to have to factory reset my device then re-download all my software AND re-encrypt my device to use my email for a 170kb update; especially if this will happen again!
Any advice would be much appreciated,
Thanks

Hi,
Tried Samsung Kies repeatedly; it downloads the update and then during the "Firmware upgrade in progress" times out after an hour.
Looks like I am the only person experiencing this problem; may have to factory reset the device after all.

You are not the only one, I am experiencing the exact same problem with encrypted device and not being able to install updates.
So far I have not been able to find a solution.
Manually apply OTA updates is in testing and a few have got it to work: I cant post a link but I did a search on these forums and found a tread about it.
Hope we can find the answer
Encrypted GALAXY S3 update
I am experiencing the exact same problem with encrypted device and not being able to install updates as my device is encrypted due to the Exchange! Hope someone already solved this issue? TIA

Same problem here. I would appreciate any idea. OTA updates usually work fine with my Asus Transformer, so this should be a Samsung related problem.

Update: For my phone, it actually seems possible to decrypt the device via the Security Menu. Samsungs support told me that this has to be done before the update can be installed....
I was also getting this a few weeks ago but when I connected to my pc and ran the update through Kies it updated without having to decrypt first
I've now removed my exchange connection to nhs.net and decrypted so unable to test

We too are experiencing this problem despite Samsungs "SAFE" (Samsung Approved For Enterprise) designation on the S III.
What version of KIES did you use? I've tried v2.2 and v2.3

I realize this thread is a little old but i'll reply anyway. I've seen on other forums that your enterprise email is causing the issue. You have to remove your enterprise email/exchange acct in order to decrypt the device. Once removed, the option to decrypt should be available. You may then accept the OTA. Your phone is only doing what it's told to do by the exchange server. It might be a ***** to remove the account but i think it would still be easier than a factory reset.

Thanks for the post haddy17. We have investigated that option but when you're working with potentially thousands of staff/employees, it's a tad cumbersome to have them remove, upgrade, reconfigure. If it were just me, it would be fine. We're currently trying to get a response from Samsung and while we have made some progress, it's not clear where the end may be...
You are probably using Exchange servers? One way could be to change ActiveSync policy to not require encryption on device. This is selectable feature. Or maybe create two policies and move clients between them from request of user.
There are still shortcomings what comes to corporate security and Android mobiles (well there are issues on other platforms too)

[Q] Problem Updating OTA to 4.1.2

I am having an issue with updating via OTA with Verizon. The OTA update came out a couple of weeks ago but I never received notice. When I went to search for it I got an error message, no matter where I was or whether it was on 3g, 4g or wifi. The message states "service unavailable". My service is working fine and I can use the internet without any issues. I called Verizon and they didn't know what was causing it but they did confirm I have an update available. I have powered off, taken out the battery cleared cache, tried to update manually with ODIN (which failed) and have come to my wits end. I am trying to avoid factory resetting the device and having to wait for all my apps to be reinstalled. I have rooted several devices before but don't want to do that this time.
Does anyone have a suggestion to help me accept the OTA from Verizon? Again, I am locked and unrooted running everything stock.
Thanks for your help!

[Q] Galaxy S III i9305 Wifi Problem

Good day,
I have a samsung galaxy s3 i9305 LTE and I have been using this device without problems for around 2 years now. It runs on Jellybean 4.3 baseband version i9305zhucnb1. It has been running on this firmware for a couple months now ever since it has been rolled out. The problem is, the WIFI suddenly stopped working. Never had this problem before and I actually never had any problems with this device ever. Whenever I turn on WIFI, it detects my home networks and other networks wherever I go but whenever I try to connect, it just shows saved secured, and sometimes authentication error after a couple of attempts. I have other WIFI devices at home and all are working perfectly. I tried forgetting the networks and I am positive that the WIFI password is correct. I tried to restore the device to facroty settings hoping that it would work. I tried accessing my router and I'm sure my device isn;t blocked. I even configured my routers to only accept the mac address of my device and block all others but still wouldn't connect. I tried rooting my device via odin but my device blocks root access and shows the error message "an application attempted to access system on your device without authorization. this attempt has been blocked.". I tried rooting it to try flashing custom roms. I also tried dialling *#0011# to configure my wifi but it still does not work. I don't think that the problem is my firmware because I had it for months and it didn't update before the issue occured. I was also about to try downgrading it to an ICS stock rom since I can't root it to try custom ROMs. I've been trying to fix this for days now. Can you guys give me a step by step instruction on how to fix this if it is at all possible? And maybe give me a link where I can download ICS or lower stock ROM's for this device. I think I have to use a TGY firmware, though I don't have an idea what it means. Thanks!
Wifi module
Maybe you've dropped your phone and the WIFI module loosened, and it can't work correctl?

Maybe it's time for factory reset? I know that's the easy solution and most complicated but you should do it from time to time.

help
i decided to have it checked by a local technician and according to them, this was still a software issue. i dont know what to do anymore. they insisted that i should just keep flashing stock roms to fix these. already tried flashing the 4.3 tgy jellybean stock rom so i was thinking of flashing other version stocks. can anyone give e a good link where i can download tgy stock roms 4.1.2 or even ICS stock roms. I also am having problems with rooting the device. it gives me error message "an application attempted to access system on your device without authorization. this attempt has been blocked." after flashing autoroot in odin. my knox is not installed. thanks.

dont know
the first time i brought this to them is when i attempted to flash an incompatible firmware. they also did not fix it. they said they dont have any available stock rom for i9305 and told me to download and flash one. mayba im just gonna have to look for a different technician when i have free time. so for the mean time, im trying to look for other fixes. btw, i tried downloading a tgy 4.1.2 stock rom and it does not flash successfully. for now i'm thinking of rooting and flashing custom roms. but whenever i flash auto root. it gives me the error message "an application attempted to access system on your device without authorization. this attempt has been blocked.". i tried updating supersu still the same thing. i manually installed root checker and says it does not have root access and it shows the said error message again. what should i do with that? Thanks

Debloater Preventing Phone from OTA Update

Hello all, I'm having a slight problem, I noticed that AT&T keeps trying to roll-out a new software update, however, my Galaxy S6 Active will download it fine, and then when trying to install the update I get prompted with the message "The install cannot be completed".
I thought at first this must be due to an application that I had disabled, but unfortunately it was not the case as I enabled every blocked app, and yet I still got the same error.
8 files still remain disabled even though I tell Debloater to "unblock" all and they include the following (I have tried countless times to enable these files with no luck):
ContainerAgent2.apk
EmergencyLauncher.apk
KnoxBBCProvider.apk
KnoxKeyguard.apk
KnoxShortcuts.apk
KnoxSwitcher.apk
KnoxTrustAgent.apk
KnoxVerifier.apk
I even performed a hard factory data reset, and these apps still remained blocked. I just want to be able to receive OTA software updates. Any ideas on what I can do? Thanks.
Install the original firmware via Odin.

Hi,
Have you found a solution? what you have to able to OTA update works?
tks!

Unable to perform OTA updates

My ZW2 has never been able to take an OTA update. I have, so far, been manually updating by sideloading with ADB. It's paired to a HTC One M8 and I checked that all the various services are up to date, but I get "downloading" followed by "something went wrong". I've tried it with just the BT connection and with wifi. It just refuses to download the update.
Also, so far only people here seem to have been posting the update zips. Is there an official repository for these updates anywhere?
Thanks!
Note: the watch is bone stock with nothing touched. It's not even bootloader unlocked.
Solved - turned out to be a firewall issue
So, I figured out that it was my phone's firewall causing the problem. I had the Zenwatch manager app blocked. I failed to realize that the phone depended on a local app to download updates.
