My HTC One (M8) has been kept bone stock for now, but I'd like to update to 1.58.502.1 and then bootloader unlock, root, and firewater S-OFF. Can anyone confirm whether it is still possible after applying 1.58.502.1 OTA?

I can also verify that this works after latest OTA backup.
Unless you're both just evil plants from AT&T involved in a dirty scheme to screw over xda members and have us all lose S-OFF! ............ No I'm kidding lmao, thanks for the info - I've been wanting to know this before I updated.
I'll chime in as well.
I dropped my Nexus 5 on Wednesday (5/14) and shattered the screen .. As in glass is actually missing and you can see circuit board .. So I bought the HTC One (M8) from AT&T. I came home and first thing I did was pull the update from AT&T (200+mb). and once it completed I:
Got my 65mb space from Google Drive
rooted
installed a custom recovery
installed a custom ROM (ARHD5.5)
and finally did the s-off.
I am a happy camper!

I do thoroughly hate to Jack a thread, but I see that you were able to get your 50GB of space from Google (plus the 15GB of free space), something I simply can not make happen... I have tried following instructions found online, as well as having contacted Google, still waiting for response though, is anybody else having this problem, I get no prompt for activating any sort of promotion or anything.
Sorry, it just jumped into my mind, but I thought I'd ask, and if anybody has a link to a solution would be great!
Thanks for taking the time...

So I reset the Google app a total of three times, as well as having reset my phone once, and on the third it was finally able to get it to pull up the redemption offer. So, for anybody else still having the redemption problem AFTER the update, you may need to reset the app and/or your device for it to present you with the offer.
I'm just curious, what was the HBOOT version before the 1.58 update? It's 3.16.0.0000 after, so I'm wondering if this update just didn't include a new HBOOT which is why we are lucky this time around.

This actually wasn't offered for the AT&T variant so you got lucky. From what I've read, only international and dev phones got it

They do offer it for AT&T.
I own an AT&T model, and I had to hit up HTC chat to redeem it but they gave it to me. On the official changelog for the 1.58 build on HTC's website for the AT&T variant, one line is "Fix for Google Drive promotion redemption."
edit: they saw that I unlocked my bootloader (I guess HTCDev keeps a record of who requests unlock tokens) so the first person I spoke with couldn't help - but I jumped on again and the second person was quick to just shoot me an email link, and didn't even ask if I was unlocked or anything. Strange.

Same here, I got mine from the Galaxy S3 promo so my dropbox space expires this summer. So by doing this I can point my Google Drive storage folder to my Dropbox storage folder, and presto, data transferred and safe for another 2 years.

HA! Same here. Got my promo with my s3 but I just recently redeemed the space after cleaning up my email box. Totally forgot about it lol.
I went to the HTC website and chatted with a rep. He asked if I unlocked and I said yes. Apparently you can't redeem the space after unlocking. Even relocking still shows in the HTC system that the device was unlocked so...no drive space for me. Hopefully I'll never need to utilize warranty.
Edit: just saw your edit. May try that myself or if it fails again might just contact the big G
Double ninja edit: Chatted with a second rep and was denied again

It should work for AT&T users as well, just launch the Google Drive app, and either it will be presented upon running it for the first time during the tour, or you will need to go to the menu at the top right, and run the tour from there, but you will scroll up three times, and on the fourth it will present the offer!!!
Good luck to all the AT&T users trying to get their redemption! I am just thankful for this update, providing one of the features that was a selling point for this device...
Now, if only we could get a device that supported all of the M8 features, as well as things like the temp sensor, waterproofing, and SAMOLED display that the S5 has... Unfortunately, build quality like this is simply not compatible with some of those features... Here's to hoping though!

Some people had luck trying this: Get them on the horn again, and if they asked if you unlocked, say you requested a token but when you were presented with the warning you changed your mind and did not unlock your phone because you didn't know it would void the warranty and you wanted to keep that intact. They can only prove up to them emailing you an unlock token, they can't say what you do after that.

Excellent suggestion but surely they've made a record of it now that I've contracted then several times. I suppose I'll give it one more go. We'll see, lol
Edit: It was a no go. Even gave serial number this time instead of imei and used different name and email address. It showed that it was registered to me and was noted that the boot loader is unlocked. Was just gonna give the space away to a buddy but I guess he's SOL. I'll hit up big G tomorrow and report back with how that went.

My guess is now that it has been made legit, even if the the OTA has no ETA everything will be AOK because some HTC QA tester will leak some keys to the locked bootloader to XDA on the DL ASAP.
The phone is smoking fast and sense 3.0 is great so I don't care how long it takes.....as long as it gets unlocked i'll be happy

Great news!
Yes this is great hopefully everyone will keep the bootloader htc emails in here and out of the dev section.
btw this was noted in the xHausx thread by me when I asked them why they didn't just toss it up on their site like xhausx suggested.
Their response(2days ago) was thats not how they want to do it and they are currently still developing the software to do such in a software update.
btw nice work, at least attempt at making a big stride in your thread in the Dev section. Nice to see people trying stuff!

Oh i agree. keep it going till its officially done and out for everyone.
If you accept an OTA to unlock the 3VO's bootloader, is it possible that Sprint can somehow disable wireless tethering even on a rooted device? I would think that they know what's up; everyone with a rooted device doesn't have to pay $30 for hotspot.

NS4G doesn't have to pay $30 for hotspot...AND the phone comes unlockable out of the box.
I doubt Sprint cares that much....we are a relatively small minority of their total accounts and we are going to find a way to tether for free regardless of if we get unlocked or not.
Also isn't Sprint the only company that doesn't censor tether apps from the market? I'm pretty sure they also have an official 'non-anti-tether' stance.
...and that's to say nothing of the fact that we pay for our data service and who cares where our bits come from and go to? We pay for the transport of said bits...the contents, origination and destination should really be irrelevant.
Besides, I can saturate my wireless connection with pandora or a couple of downloads on my phone just as easily as I could by hooking it up to a computer.
EDIT: Either way, I don't think they could possibly prevent tethering without throwing multiple monkey wrenches into the works.
When i went to look at the phone the otherday on the 24th my sprint guy that i always deal with said u know they r unlocking the bootloader in 60 days right? An i was like no i thought it would already be unlocked he said he read somewhere 60 days to try an get ppl to stay with it
Now idk if this is true or not by the way this guy didnt know a thing on how to root untill i showed him now he flashes roms like crazy lol

because other than side stepping to a processor of the same (possibly marginally better) quality, they're removing half the internal storage and scrapping the fingerprint scanner. the fingerprint scanner being removed is the one thing that is really causing me to dislike it.
not to mention, the whole 'Atrix 2' on a phone that isn't really an upgrade at all is kind of pathetic on Moto's part =\

i don't use the camera enough to bother; if i want to take pictures or record video, i'll get a camera for that. also, i put a lot of music and movies on my phone so every bit of space counts. i filled up my 16GB external SD card with music alone; that's only 10GB (or is it 12? i dunno, i know the system and webtop reserve some space i'm just not sure at the moment, really tired) of space on my internal for backups of my device, apps, more music, and movies. not a lot of space when you think of it.
and the fingerprint scanner was the whole reason i got the Atrix in the first place; i loved the idea of being able to lock my phone and me being the only person with access to it. i keep my phone plugged into a speaker system at work; it's in a room that i can't go to a lot since i'm busy in the kitchen cooking. this way i know for a fact that no one will mess around inside my phone. also being able to use Data Defender to lock out people from my apps is a huge seller for me; i also frequently allow other people to see my phone

I understand completely. So, since I've been phoneless for a while I'm kind of out of the loop, the SGN is coming out Nov. 11 and will be available for ATT, correct? If so, it'll be within my 30 return policy.
EDIT: Or I'm misinformed and the 30 day policy is regarding my contract, not the phone. Not sure how ATT goes about new phone returns.

Sweeeeet! I hope I'm correct in saying the SGN is by far the best choice of a phone for a while. I won't mind my A2 in the mean time.
EDIT: Oh, and my only complaint about this phone is the button placement. I don't know if it's just me, but I'm use to the home button being on the far left, whereas it's the second one and the far left is the menu button, which, for whatever reason, looks like an app drawer button.

If you are within 30 days there is no restocking fee but you still have to pay the activation fee if it is a new line at least, or maybe there is a small restocking fee if it is an upgrade. Not sure exactly how the upgrade process works all I know is that is how a New Line works. Also there have been multiple people requesting a place for the Atrix 2 and it still doesn't exist so this is the closest place we have to post questions and such.

Probably different because mine was an add a line and got it from Best Buy. That's my assumption.

Yes please someone, anyone, Atrix 2 forum already, that way all of us who own this thing can actually have some place to discuss this device and Only this device and we get information Pertaining to this Device and everyone in the OG Atrix can stop seeing posts about the Atrix 2.
See, this is what I'm talking about here, HTC and their lies and bull****. The EVO LTE is the One X, yet, we have no ****ing 4.0.4 while EVERY OTHER US variant does. Well, that's the last damn straw with me... Proceeding to harass GPL off this bull****.

I'm happy w my EVO LTE. Not happy with HTCs way of handling things as a business. They fail to support their customers lol.

Some guy had the nerve to try and say I'm out of control. HTC is scrambling and losing because of bull**** post purchase service. If htc suddenly said "**** it, w need money so we are providing a universal s-off tool, BUT IT WILL VOID WARRANTY" people would buy the phones so damn fast it'll be like the itc hold up again. Samsung doesn't care about root and thats why they sale. Not to mention bull**** advertising by HTC. Hey man. Keep fighting the good fight. We are behind you. I have been writing emails and posting on facebook walls. Doing what I can.
Eh, I don't know why you guys expect us to get everything the One X gets. Yes, the two phones are similar, but they have different development paths and different carriers.

you must be real daft to not expect support for such a new phone
this phone just came out a couple months ago, wouldnt you expect a frikking update just like the one x too?

HTC isn't losing much at all from not upgrading their phones. The majority of Android users will not understand or care about version numbers. Android is no longer something for just "nerds" like us. It has the largest market share of any mobile OS. HTC is losing money because they don't have lower end phones, and also because the name isn't as well known as Samsung or Apple in the US.
1) HTC cannot guarantee an update window without being sure of it. With this update being new, they will still have to go through Sprint and all of that before it gets to us. HTC probably has no way of knowing how long it will take, so they aren't giving us any sort of ETA.
2) This phone will obviously receive the update. That shouldn't even be questioned. It is essentially the same phone as the One X, but locked down to a single carrier. This most likely makes us the last priority because we are the smallest group. The One X is available in many more areas than the Evo is. HTC probably wants to get through the biggest group first and then focus on us.
3) You're being unnecessarily angry. The update was just released TODAY, meaning that it probably won't even be on every One X for a few days at least. Just because some HTC drone paid to avoid giving you answers told you on Facebook that they don't have any information to share with you doesn't mean we will be waiting a month for this update to come. Could we have to wait that long? Yes. But there is no proof that we will.
4) The current update we are on with this phone is good. The phone itself works fine. Why do we need this update instantly? Would you prefer HTC rush it out and have to deal with bugs? Why would you want to do that? If it isn't ready for release yet, then you just have to deal with that. Pestering them on Facebook isn't going to get them to go any faster. Spamming them with e-mails probably isn't going to either. There is no legally binding document that says they have to release this update. They will though.
Honestly, it is common sense that we will see this update in the future. When will we see it? We don't know. But to go on an expletive filled tirade just because HTC doesn't have a bone to throw at you on the first day that the update is available on carriers that are much less restrictive than Sprint is just immature and unnecessary.
Newsflash: it's easier to update a phone when you don't have to go through carriers. Also, upgrading phones outside of the US is much easier because a lot of less restrictive carriers. It'll happen, but HTC had to focus on one or the other first, and common sense says we weren't chosen because we're the smaller group.
Exactly..and they have pretty much the same software besides the bloat apps..but believe me they are not very happy either..devs are leaving and the bootloaders are locked up tighter than a nuns ass...I don't understand HTCs intentions but it could all be fixed with one simple upload of source

Think about what I said and your response to it for just a second. Is that second over? Ok, let's try that again.
1) Did I state there is not support or that we will not get support?
If your answer is no, you have survived round one and are allowed to continue!
2) Think about 4.1. What if HTC and/or Sprint thinks 4.0.4 is a waste of time and decides, hey, why don't we just develop 4.1 for the LTEvo instead? I mean, that could be money better spent, right? So, are we with AT&T and have the One X, or are we Sprint and have the LTEvo?
If your answer is Sprint and the LTEvo, you have survived round two and allowed to continue!
3) So where does it state that we will absolutely get everything that the One X gets? Is there anything concrete that links our LTEvo development to the One X?
If your answer is nowhere and nothing, you have won the game!!! WOOOHOOO!!!

Pro HTC? Can't you see, post purchase service is **** all across the board. The desire HD excuse is a perfect example. Your idea of carrier lock down is somewhat true BUT can be solved. I don't know why they let carriers muscle them. Apple says **** you, sale our **** or GTFO & they bend. HTC needs to do the same & Sammy does too. These cellular politics piss me off. I wonder what EXCUSE we'll get for not having android 5. I would much rather them come out & say "yo, we not upgrading your old ass phone. Buy a new one or GTFO"

Don't get me wrong I love my phone. But just had to quickly get this off my chest. Minor annoyances.
1. Only the international/developer version gets the HTC Silicone case for the M8 in box. Why not make that standard across all models? This is a beautiful case, my friend works for Verizon Wireless as an Engineer/IT and when we met up a couple of times around January-end to Feb I saw that he had this phone with him trying to test it in real life settings on their network. His case came with the phone in the box. I thought that the case fit well with the phone and the color scheme worked well also. I was praying and hoping that this was the case across US Carriers.

2. No free google drive space for US Carrier phones? Once again international/developer vs US Carrier bias. What gives HTC?
3. I'm fine with Carrier branding on the back, but why that Ugly crookedly placed Phone ID sticker on the back? I know you can take it off, but just include it in the box and leave it as an option to stick on it yourself or save it for warranty purposes.
4. I hope for once in the future Carrier IQ and Bloatware will be optional or taken out completely. This is where iOS and Apple excels in terms of regulating carrier bloatware on their phones. I know Carrier IQ will be on most phones and hard to track sometimes.
5. ATT please include the Sim card that comes with the phone in the shipped box and dont open my phone prior to shipping and put it in there for me. Now I know why the phone was scratched on the corners and by the Sim Door. SMH...
That is all, sorry had to vent. Lol...

My sim was also pre-installed when it came to me (Shipped direct from AT&T). No scratches/problems with my phone thought, I love it.
I also could care less about the case and Bloat etc... Easy enough to Root and install a ROM without it. Pretty used to this kind of thing by now, not worth fussing over.
You can still get the Google Drive space. Just call them up.
I do not really feel your pain on any these. i dont need a silicone case. my sim was preinstalled but no sign of my box being opened, it was sealed. i was under the impression it was part of HTC process in packaging that they has the att sim card in them already. carrier iq who cares. you can get the extra drive space no matter what phone you have. and the sticker on the back? seriously. thats not branding. its not meant to stay on.

I hate att too
My phone came in perfect condition, but I bought a case for it which ended up scratching it. I would have loved to get this case with it, probably wouldn't be in the position I'm in. Bloatware will continue to be a problem, it's not going away.

Contact HTC through their online chat support. They'll send you an activation email.
1. My developer version did not come with a case...so this I think is not accurate
2. Developer build didnt accept email address for free space either,Carriers make that decision, they opt out of the offer...
3. Its just the IMEI?Serial stickers, when there was removable batteries they were under the batteries,I understand point but they have to put them on the phones.
4. AT&T and carrieriq/bloatware,wellllll that probably wont happen anytime soon although Ive had discussions with htc higher ups about it and its not htc,its att that insists on putting it on the phones....lol
5. I have both developer and att branded, the att did indeed come with a sim included and was unopened...Guess its just where you get them maybe

I don't think they're absolute junk, but I have to agree, they are low quality. The ear buds that came with the M7 were pretty impressive, but I broke them. Now I'm using Beats Touring ear buds and love those, but they are pricey and I'm ever so protective of them, lol

From what I have heard, our phone will recieve the update but we're gonna have to wait until the end of the year. Really disappointed with HTC and also I'm stuck with this OS as there aren't any custom ROMs available yet. Why did I buy this phone? HTC you suck.

Same this has happened with the desire 816, and yet that phone just got the 5.0 update. My guess the representative might've been flustered.

Honestly guys if you want dev support and timely updates get a flag ship HTC, not a throw away $100 phone and expect support over a year later. The M7, M8 and M9 probably have the beat dev support XDA has to offer, plus HTC has been good on their promises. Nobody is entitled to a custom ROM, if you need one that bad learn how to code and do it yourself. Don't expect someone who doesn't own a 610 to do it for you.

you know what this attitude makes me puke... you think we want to buy a cheaper phone, You think there isnt one among us who if we didnt have the money would love to buy a flagship... get your head out the clouds mate.. I got 2 kids and a baby on the way. the chances of me having the money to spend on what amounts so a luxury and not even a real necessity is slim to none.. Just because we can't afford to get a better phone doesn't mean we don't have the right to bemoan it when there is little development.. if you notice nobody is criticising anyone we are all just sad that there is little to no development. sure we can learn ourselves and if I ever have a free moment I'm sure it would be a priority..
so before you jump on someone's complaint again maybe you should take 2 seconds to think about them rather than anything else

1 no one said anything bout htc sucking we siad it sucks that the phone wont likely get android 5.0 and i think its fair to say that sucks or are you not interested in getting it to your phone?
2 what sense of entitlement are you talking about? Since when did complianing about something become a bad thing... pointing out that it sucks that there is no development for our device, is just that. Pointing out it sucks...
now before you want to start comparing lifes and how much worse off you are than anyone else, maybe you need to get off that high horse. Some of us here have tried developing with this device with very little sucess and in my opinion and others too, it sucks that none of the good or experiance developers can help us... its not about the quality of the device cause im sure i speak for most when i say that its actually a bloody good phone....
Now before you make another knee jerk reply i want you to understand, my original comment was not aimed at you speficially but at the attituded I have seen on a lot of these threads... we keep talking about community but that community seems very focused on the high end or popular phones, this is not a critisism just a fact. So if we want to have a whinge about the fact that there is no development then just let us get it out there because no matter the reason it still doesnt change that fact that IT SUCKS!!!
I never said I was worse off than anybody else, I was just pointing the fact I can't just go out and buy a flagship phone either.
1. When you buy a low end phone, don't expect long term support and flagship like development at XDA. If you're into flashing ROMs always check XDA before buying a phone. You can find some decent discounted phones with an active development scene. Nexus 4, G2, HTC M7 to name a few.
2. Maybe it was just me to not sir around and wait for someone else to give me what I want. If I wanted CM11 bad enough I would try and figure out how to port it myself. I've been meaning to make a fully debloated stock ROM and post it in the dev section whenever I get around to it. I'm fine with stock rooted and using xposed.
Before I got the 610 I was using the Hauwei Fusion 3, now talk about a dead dev scene.
