Restore data in new phone with Titanium - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, i'm looking for a good way to restore apps+data from my "old" Samsung s3 to my S4.
I tried to restore throught Titanium backup but my attempts are gone bad because the system shown me errors in many apps, in process.gapps, etc. and i should to do factory resets continuously!
Although i tried to download apps from Play Store too, I tried to select "restore old id" (to avoid compatibility issues), i tried to use ".xml" file, i excluded to restore apps system and i restored only data, i'm still having problems and i don't know how can i find a best way..
Can you help me?

[Q] Titanium Restore

Do not restore system data if changing firmware .

Titanium Restore
So how do I restore the settings? My desktop, all the configurations?
What exactly should I restore?
It's never a good idea to restore apps AND DATA, just apps, if you also restore data you will likely get FC's particulary if your moving to a new ROM or new formware.

ok i have a question for you..when i go to restore apps through TB i always do the first one..restoring missing apps with data....is that good or bad? and didnt TB had an option were you could only restore apps with out the data? or im i being mistaken
Restore "apps with data" isn't the same as "system data," AFAIK.
I've always restored apps with data without incident.
I always restore apps with data but never system data just to be sure. I use Go launcher EX and all my desktops end up exactly as they were (exept for some widgets, but that's unimportant). The only thing i have to do is reconfigure some of the settings, basic things like ringtone, disable haptic feedback, etc...

[Q] All apps crash after installing rom update

Hey guys, I have the ViperX+ 2.0.1 rom, but my problem is not really about the rom itself.
A week ago the ota update got released, so I made a backup and installed t, but as I already expected it there was
the same problem I had before: After loading and adjusting all apps it loads my wallpaper, but after that all apps crash,
so I have to turn the phone off by pressing the power button. This is caused by the app LuckyPatcher. In LuckyPatcher
there's a feature which installs a modded playstore, when I installed it for the first time restarted the device but after booting
all apps kept crashing, so I had to restore a backup, then I changed the modded playstore version and it worked fine.
Now back to the ota update problem: I installed the original play store with luckypatcher and removed the app,
then I installed the update and all apps crashed again, so removing luckypatcher doesn't help anymore
(restored the data via backup again). Have you guys any idea how to fix this, cause my latest backup is a few months old..
Or should I just backup my data and do a full wipe? If yes what should I backup in TWRP (only data or boot too,
cause I don't know which of them contains the broken files), or use something like Titanium Backup. I don't mind if I have to set
all the options and tweaks manually again, I just want to keep my files (music, pics, apps, etc.),
so which way would you recommend me? Thanks in advance

You should wipe / factory reset before you install any ROM. These apps you're loading, how are you loading it ? Through backup or play store ? Is it system apps or downloaded apps ?

By loading apps I mean the usual process after booting the phone, it says ''Android wird aktualisiert'' (Android gets updated).
*edit: I guess fixing the problem would be much more complicated than performing a full wipe, so which way to backup my data (as written in the main post) would you recommend me?

Do a factory reset from TWRP. You will lose your text messages and apps ect. If you don't want to go through the process of re-downloading your apps, you can use titanium backup and backup apps but not app data (not recommended). Flashing roms without doing a wipe/factory reset = hot mess. Unless otherwise said no wipe needed.
Edit just keep check of the Rom discussion to see if anyone has the same problem. Try wiping then install 2.01 make a complete boot then install ota

Backup all user apps will do just fine.
It will backup data of those apps too, so you are good to go!

So shoudln't there be any special setting to backup game saves/progresses?
no, you can backup data game like other apps
when i see the backup properties - both data and "external data" should be marked? Or it's enough that only data
And one more thing - the folder "Phone\TitaniumBackup" is the one I should copy to the SD
Depends from the app: both marked if has external data like TomTom navigator with maps or Real Racing with data about tracks and cars, only data for most part of apps
I suggest you to set up as default folder for backup a folder on external microsd.

Whatsapp Backup & Restore.

Can some one suggest a good backup & restore apk or mod for whatsapp. I have tried various ways by searching in google & tested it but some messages goes missing even after backing up & restoring it or restoring it after changing custom rom.
:what:
I habe no problems backing up and restoring whatsapp history. And I've done this many times.
Whatsapp is backing up at 4 o'clock in the morning automatically. So if you restore the history, you have to make a backup direct before you want to restore. Go into settings and select backup. Then you can change the Rom and restore the full history

I tried it many times to do as what u have said but few conversations go missing. After backing up the latest do we have to delete the other backup files and keep the latest and then restore or?????
Hm, whole conversions are missing? Then i have no idea. Sry.

If you are rooted, I suggest Titanium Backup... With that you can backup any system or user application and its data.
Well, except for Whatsapp which will not backup and restore images or audio bits. But text messages in whatsapp will do just fine.

Using titanium backup. Make sure delete previous backup before make a new backup. I have done it for years.
Sms+ backup on play store I belive supports backing up WhatsApp to your Gmail. Not used it myself. But have seen the option in the settings.
Helium OR Mybackup pro

Generally Whatsapp backs up all the data once a day as per set time. If you want to ensure every thing till the time you want to copy it, go to menu>settings>chat settings>Back up conversations. It will back up till this time.
Then go to internal storage using file manager. copy folder named 'WhatsApp' to your computer or to the external sd card (SD card - only if you do not plan to format it ! )
Then you can install the new ROM or do factory reset... what ever you plan to do.
Then again copy the whatsApp folder back to internal storage. Then install WhatsApp. When you run it, it will ask you whether you want to restore the back up. Proceed. You have everything back as it was earlier !
Backing up with Titanium Backup will not take care of the Media in Whatsapp. The media is stored on the root of the internal memory under a folder called Whatsapp.

move from g4 to g5 with twrp backup/restore

i read in many threads now that tw is only designed for same device restore
i didnt know that
can i use a root browser or similar to extract my old apps amnd (data) and migrate to g5 because i really need it... lg g4 is sold :cyclops:
which files excactly are needed ( data.ext4 for example??)
if you have root, use simply titanium backup to restoe Apps with data. But restore device settings is a big risk. Set it manually and dont restore it you can restore a many systemapps, but dont restore app and data, restore data only...
