I am looking for a way to get root access for my Droid DNA. Now that it has been updated and runs android 4.4.2 I am unable to locate any way to root it. I have searched youtube and google with no success. Any easy and safe suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
In general there is a thread titled, Am I too late to root, with all the info.

'been working on s-off for three weeks now. Your message saved me. I have so many emotions right now.
If only someone had come into my thread with this info when I asked pretty much the same question. Could've been done days ago.
Better late than never though! Glad someone apparently asked the right question.

I looked at this, but it's still a bit fuzzy to me. I'm totally new to Android and modding. I have no clue what their talking about when they say abd and what not.
Just among the best adb tutorial I could think of...

Definitely learn adb, it is the better solution than taking the easy way out.

You could follow a [email protected] Android central. It is an auto root.
I used it and it was really easy.
Don't let anyone scare you, nothing wrong with an autoroot. Knowing the nuts and bolts is good, but hardly essential. This is what I used

I used that guide (on android central though), couldn't be any easier.
jcases guide was bomb. If you pay attention you can learn a lot that might be useful later. The ability to use adb nice for potential trouble shooting issues or modding rom's on your thunder bolt .
I used this: http://forum.androidcentral.com/thu...9-mac-procedure-how-root-htc-thunderbolt.html but it is only good if you have a mac. This guy made it idiot proof.

thanks for the video tut, really appreciated!
question though, why do you use both? shouldn't one just be enough.
this might be a stupid question though, seeing as i haven't watched the video yet, i just assumed that it covered everything.
I followed the guide here and watched the videos by nat3mil on youtube. Manual root was very easy.
Is there like some sort of secret to root this phone? And if not why isn't it posted all over the place. HTC Dev wont let me unlock so it's impossible for me to do anything.

"original development" subforum does make finding stuff like this more time consuming sometimes, I agree. I rarely think to check it myself.
Also the sticky in the development section that lists all of the root methods mods Roms you name it I'm sure its in that post

Well there isnt anything indicating that you've found what you were looking for, I'm not quite sure what you mean by me being 10 years late and I do know for a fact that a little searching around the development forums you would have found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2011243 at the top of the page just where I said... oh and all questions are supposed to be posted in the Q & A section...
you gotta unlock the bootloader first then flash a boot.img w/ system write enabled then flash a recovery then the modules and then the superuser.zip to get root access...

You're right beaups, let me break it down:
-From the CID.apk method, I got the "VZW_001" in abd fastboot oem readcid, which I heard is a no go.
-At HTCDev I got the error code #160 message (MID Not allowed) when I pasted the token ID (from start to end, excluding the word INFO) that I obtained from fastboot oem get_ identifier_token.
-RUU.exe stated not to be able to update my device to 1.15xxx from 2.4.605.2
I don't know what else to do. I cannot retire my Droid 4 just yet because of that. Your help would be very appreciated.

Ok. Has your phone already taken the update? (What software version are you on?). If its been ota'd, there is no unlock method for you currently. And based on what I've found so far, there may not be one any time soon.

Yes I had an update as soon as I slipped my SIM card in. I am running the 2.4.605.2 version right now. Can the Jcase's exploit help me change the CID in order to unlock the bootloader via HTCDev?

As this is my first post I beg of you to take it a little easy on me. I am currently on the new OTA and have had the DNA for 5 days. I realize the lockdown on this phone is particularly harsh with this update so I am curious if I can return the phone to Verizon for a non-updated new one but I will need some type of ammo to go in there with to really get them to exchange it. The only problem I have had so far is that my financial pages for paying bills (Verizon included) and my expense reporting will not load. Perhaps this is a java error that the OTA may have caused and I am sure Verizon wants their money so that will be a way to win.
Are there any major issues with the current OTA I can add to my complaint list to get my hands on another one?
And yes, it is very rude to ask a dev if they are coming close to a solution but I am curious if it will be all for naught and the workaround is on the horizon or in the near future. I'm sure it's on many new owners' minds and they are scared to ask so let the noob bashing begin on me. I can take the abuse.
Knowing my luck I will come home from the store and blammo beaups and jcase have cracked it.
Update : Called Verizon, made claim, got a new in box sealed DNA, brought it home and went to work on it!
Proud owner now of a rooted, unlocked, s-off, rom and custom kernel running, new OTA radio, future updates from Verizon ota's blocked, bad boy of a DNA!
hi guys im about to trade my htc one xl for this htc Droid DNA i know this phone is gsm unlocked for any company since im a tmobile user ive been getting 4g on an att phon because tmobile is using 1900 band in most of san diego...
ok well i want to know all i need to root this phone and unlock the boot-loader for it as soon as i get it im coming from Viper rom on my XL and i like how they are so if anyone has some links with rooting guide, boot-loader guide, and some of the best custom roms with good battery life it will be appreciated..
also what are some of the biggest flaws of this phone other than the 16gb none expandable memory???
also what to do first root? or unlock bootloader?
If the phone you're trading for has taken the 2.0.4 update, you will not be able to do any of those things at this time. As for the guides, start looking through the Dev sections and sticky threads. They are readily available.

The only current way to root a MJ7 phone is to use vroot. There is an unknown level of risk in using that, but many people have said that they have successfully rooted while seeing no negative side effects.
Please read the thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2511815 where the vroot program is discussed.
Direct links to vroot are not allowed on XDA so you'll need to find it for yourself.
Also, since you admit that you're a newbie, please note that vroot installs a Chinese language Superuser control program that many people are having troubles removing and replacing with the standard one. There are a few scripts that people have developed to help with that.
Sorry for being a noob in advance I really would like to root this phone, and have been trying for like the past 3-4 months trying everything from z4 root the app to hasoon2000's all-in-one toolkit, and I still cannot seem to root it. If anyone thinks they can help me or if you would like to try please msg me. And so what exactly is s-off? What do drivers do and how do i know which to get? How to temp root? I appreciate you reading this thank you
Not getting sideways, but google is seriously your best friend in situations like this. Google exactly what your asking and read, read, read. To answer one of your questions, I know there hasn't been a 100% successful s-off procedure since the recent OTA update. I think its going to be a while before one is found.
