HTC screen exchange - AT&T HTC One (M8)

I shattered the screen on my phone called for the one replacement for free no problems there. I chose to get the replacement device instead of having them fix mine. Should I flash this phone back to stock before sending it back in? I have boot loader unlocked but not S-off the phone. Any thoughts or experiences welcome. Thanks

I thought you voided warranty when you unlock? Just relock and I 'think' you'll be fine

I just went through this. Before I sent mine back I went S-off, locked bootloader, removed the tampered and relocked tags, and went 100% stock, I left it s-off since people say this trips the tags again and can cause other problems. They still tried to charge me $290 to replace the motherboard since it was unlocked (they check if you requested an unlock token even though this doesn't mean you used it). After arguing with them they finally said they would fix my phone for free since it was all stock ("HTC supported software").
Ultimately, you'll have to see what they say when you send it back. For some people, HTC hasn't said a thing even if they left s-on and had relocked tag, for others they charged them $290 no matter what. The only advice I can offer if this happens is to point out that there are two separate warranties, a Limited Warranty and an Expanded Limited Warranty (the screen replacement). The screen warranty says nothing about unlocking your phone voiding the warranty.

I opted for the replacement phone I'm trying to use the RUU to flash back to stock but haven't gotten it yet. Hopefully I can get it back don't really want to be charged that much

Getting my rezound Tuesday.
Wanna root it immediately but wondering what kind of issues you guys might get with your rezound cause not really sure about how the whole relocking your phone says phone relocked. Sorry its probably been asked but I've been searching for twenty minutes can the phone be completely relocked if the phone had issues.

You answered your own question. It can be relocked. But it'll say relocked.
So no ones figured it out then I take it

Figured what out?
To return the bootloader to factory locked not relocked. Just wondering cause I'm kinda weary of certified like new phones. I don't want to root have the hardware fail and not be covered. Or is this even a problem can it just be sent in relocked

There's no way to put it back to full on "LOCKED" It'll say "RELOCKED" but there's been many people who've returned their Rezounds for different reasons with no issues because 99/100 times, the rep will not check to see if it's been unlocked or not.
It's not a problem. So far, nobody has reported a problem retuning a phone that has a real hardware problem with the phone in relocked condition.
Cool that's all I needed to know thanks

I returned a relocked Rezound for overheating with no problem a few months ago, but nobody can guaranty you will be able to do that. Technically you do void the warranty as soon as you unlock it.

You don't void your warranty, HTC says you may void your warranty.
So by may void your warranty pretty much HTC means if you brick it from flashing say a radio or send it back running ics then your screwed?

View died... HTC repair

My View has completely died. Just went to turn it on one day and it won't respond at all. Of course it's S-off and can't even do an
RUU. Anyone know if HTC will repair it even if it's rooted? I don't know how extensive they test completely bricked devices.

My Flyer was rooted with a custom ROM and they fixed the LCD that was out for free. It was still s-off when I got it back. Give them a call. They have a super fast repair process. Mine was an 8 month old Tech4Less refurb and they treated me like I paid full price. Be sure to post your experience.
I had this happen to me. If you have not tried this yet I suggest plugging it in for an hour or so. I was then able to boot into recovery.

[Q] What (software) condition does my phone have to be in for warranty?

Well, i have a rooted, s-offed, and rommed E3D, which is still in fully working condition except for the reason im sending it into repair.
The headphone jack doesn't output sound as well, and seems to be loose because any pair of headphones I use, the sound only comes out of right side unless I push and hold the wire in the jack.
So my question is, because I know this isn't a simple fix, and music is a major part of my life, do I have to S-on, unroot, and install the stock rom to send it into repair?
S-on, relocked and with Stock firmware+rom
Brought mine into a sprint repair center, 1 week after i had received it as a refurb, with 1.4 s-off and myns ics rom with some screen and button light issues. They looked at it and swapped it out for another refurb without saying a word. I guess i would call ahead and ask.

From everything I've seen, the official policy is that Sprint techs are not supposed to discriminate against rooted users and have been very good about following that policy. You should be fine if you just take it in, especially since it is a hardware issue.

Thanks for your replies guys! However, I'm not with Sprint, I'm with Rogers. Would the best course of action be to go S-ON, relocked, and stock rom?
The last thing I want is to end up waiting two weeks, get a repaired phone, then be charged 200 dollars for it.

Ah. You're with Rogers ...
S-on and stock would probably be a good idea.

AT&T warranty department and relocked bootloader

So long story short, my HOX+ broke and the touch screen stopped working. I rejoiced the bootloader and RUUed it but HBoot had the 'Relocked' flag... Has anybody else been in this situation and been charged?
I sent it in via their mail return service.
Thanks,
IE

Just got mine back from repair. I didn't even take the time to re lock the bootloader or flash the stock ruu. They are going to completely disassemble your phone to determine the cause of the failure. Mine was obvious, I broke the screen. Once they determine the cause they will send you a quote or "repair" it under warranty. By repair I mean they are going to send you a new phone. Having the phone unlocked should play no factor in your case unless they determine the cause to be directly related.

I'm on my third warranty phone. Have bad luck. First one I re locked and got replacement with no issues and the second one I sent it off with a custom rom and it was fine lol. They never gave me any issues

Warranty Question?

Hi I just had to get my evo 3d replaced due to a failure in my battery and worst nightmare it was rooted. I think I can lock it and flash the stock ruu. Are they going to charge me if it says relocked and has stock ruu. It was replaced do to a hardware issue, I don't know of my phone was replaced by warranty or insurance but I think it was insurance but if warranty will I be charged. Again replaced for hardware issue. If they charge me how much???
PS: I got my phone within 24 hours like VMUSA's insurance. How long does warranty take? How much would warranty charge me?
Also I'm freaking out so sorry for repeated things.

They will charge you max $35 and will run a diagnosis on the phone but if its a hardware issue and not a software issue, they wont even bother to check the bootloader. flash the stock ruu thou.

Oh no I was talking about sprint warranty but its more or less the same I don't know how much they'll charge you thou but I think they wont charge you at all as its an internal hardware problem so it couldn't be your fault.

Well I called Sprint(VirginMobile) so they probably did it through their warranty. It will be relocked and have the stock ruu so they will hopefully not notice or care

Ok I did a little digging and well as long as the phone isn't broken (dropped or water damage) they'll try to solve it regardless of the re-locked alert on the bootloader. They normally won't charge you.
Ok thanks
Sent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk
You don't need to tell them what you do with your phone. Just give vague answers and send it away.
That's what I did told them my phone would not charge. I'll be getting another new phone as my replacement was purple and I don't like purple...
