In the quicksettings I have a LTE icon and a Mobile-data icon, what are they both there for?
Is the LTE meant to be a 4G activator? confused?

4G is faster network at the cost of more battery drain. 3G is in most cases fast enough, so you should only use 4G when you really need it, and it is supported in the area you are in.

To do what? Toggle wimax? I'm sure you already know that you can do that already. Your posts are extremely vague at best.
If you pull down your status bar, and click on the bottom where it says " quick settings", you can toggle the 4g/wimax from there.
I'm also pretty sure that you can download a wimax toggle widget from the market that you can place on your homescreen (there was one for the evo 4g, but I never used it for the og nor the 3d since ive never had wimax signal)
I'm very confused the GSM model has WiMax? England has WiMax?
I thought the GSM's 4G was HSPA+.
I mean switching between Wimax / b / g / n

You mean WiFi b/g/n? WiMax is the 4G network Sprint/Clear uses. As far as switching between WiFi b/g/n, not sure you can do that.
Settings-wireless-WiFi settings-Menu Button-advanced: enable best WiFi Performance.
That is what he wants to be toogled.
i compiled a gsm extended quick settings, but without this setting...it fcs everytime :/

I am wondering if there is way for me to shut down the 4G service on my amaze and have 3G instead. I know on some android phones it is possible. signal drops on 4G is really pissing me off

if it drops 4g it should automatically switch to 3g, if its not, its either cause you have no data reception at all at the time, or you have a screwed up phone, probably not the latter. There are some toggle apps you can look into on the market though, elixir is really good, and beautiful widgets has a 4g toggle i believe as well... hope this helps ya...
I'm using LTE switch. cuts it down too 4G
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.geoffreybuttercrumbs.lteswitch&feature=search_result
GSM Only (2g)
GSM Auto (4g)
elixir looks nice, I'm going to play around with it.

the LTE switch works for HSPA+?
It's kicking my phone down too and showing 2G and after running a speed test it's like 200kbps. I haven't really tried to kick it over to 3G.

Your choices are 2G or 3G/4G. The 3G and 4G signals are essentially the same, both WCDMA. This is why you don't see a 3G icon, it is all wrapped into the 4G icon.
If you want to stop 4G data, you can download the widget from the market or go to Settings > Wireless & Networks >Mobile Networks > and change Network Mode to GSM only.

This.
4G and 3G use the same "part" of the network.
T-Mobile's network is not like Verizon or Sprint, where a completely different communication channel is being used.
The functionality is quite similar to WiFi...With 802.11 B and G, they use they same frequencies and talk on the same channels. However, 802.11 B tops out at 10Mbps, while G is capable of hitting (theoretically) 54mbps. The only caveat being that both the access point and the client, must support the updated protocol.
So yes, although it's doesn't seem logical, your choice is either 4G (HSDPA and HSDPA+) or 2G (EDGE).
If 3 and 4g are the same on Tmobile's network, then when you're on 4G, does it use any more battery than it does on 3G?
My user experience says yes. The battery hogging is on par with the EVO and Sprint's wimax. There was a switch to revert to 3G, and all sprint users that I knew never used 4G because it drained the battery in a matter of a few hours.
On an AT&T iPhone 3G, the battery never drained this quickly.
Please keep all question based threads in the Q&A section.

As long as i am not leaving the 3G or 4G area, i set mine on wcdma only. Problem solved. When i travel into 2g areas, i put it back on auto.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.. But our 3g and 4g has no dependence on our radio. It's dependent on the signal we receive. So to answer your question, no power is saved because 3g and 4g use the same part of the phone. Only on 2g because a lower power radio is receiving the data signal
Over 10000!!! You bet I am.
This may be a lame question, but if 4G becomes active in my area, is there anything i need to do? or will the 4G notification just turn on when a signal is detected?

Its not lame, its how you learn. In theory, no.
There are settings for CDMA and LTE under the mobile networks area so assuming you are set to CDMA / LTE, running stock and you are close enough to a LTE tower you should switch to LTE automatically. If you search there are a number of tweaks and additional settings also available in case you aren't successful.
If you never change your mobile network mode from cdma/lte in your settings then it should automatically connect if you ever get lte in your city.
The above posters answered the question, but if you would like to know more about when LTE might be available in your area head on over to www.s4gru.com

so i don't really know alot about the CDMA/LTE stuff... but on the original Evo the 4G was on the CDMA network correct? The New EVO just has 4G on the LTE network? Meaning if i was able to pick up 4G in my area with the original EVO i won't be able to get 4G with my new EVO LTE until they add LTE in the area?
am I understanding this correct?
Correct, 4g was on the wimax network, now 4g is lte. Wimax is still available, it will eventually be phased out.
That sucks... I live in bumf so doubt I'll have LTE anytime soon... But at least this phone is still awesome

Hello, I recently switched over to Tmo from Big Red. I have mixed feelings about the switch. Overall I'm satisfied, however the signal strength near my house sucks!!! When I have LTE, it's great!!! My major/question is how is it 2013 and have no 3G? I go from 4G/LTE to 2G in about a mile. Does Tmo not support 3G?

Use the app Open Signal from here It will show you when your using 3G because even if when you are on 3G it shows 4G icon on tmobile because the 4G is the upgraded 3G
When you run the speed test it will tell you if you are on 2G, 3G, 3G/HSDPA (which is 4G), HSPA+ or might show as HSPAP which is the 42Mbits, and then 4G LTE

Thanks for the info, I checked out that app the other day and it looks like I can only get 2G at my house... Hell I can't believe that they still have 2G towers... This blows my mind... I guess I'm thankful that when I'm in LTE it's faster then I had with Big Red... Thanks again!!

You can always try and use the other APN settings. Some people have luck with those.

also you can put up a widget on your screen from Network Signal Info. I use it all the time. Great little widget that will show you your current connection type, signal and a whole lot more info.
What i use it for is to watch my UMTS connection and see if i am on HSDPA or + aka 15 or 21, then it also shows LTE when your connected to that..
If your in a spot where your not sure what connection you have this widget works wonders.
Hi guys,
I have DZ6503 unlocked bought from Clove.uk. I only see 4G icon not LTE! I have downloaded internet settings automaticly. Is there anything to do to see LTE?
Thanks!

That's odd, I setup my D6503 and it immediately showed LTE when I turned on LTE in the network settings: Wireless & Networks>More...>Mobile network settings>Network Mode

There isn't LTE in network settings. Only 4G. I was searching online and some people mention, LTE icon has gone after latest software update. Now it only shows 4G. I just wanted to make sure that information is right.
It depends on what region your firmware is from. You will still get the correct speeds.
UK phone from Clove, latest stock, on TMo. Shows 4G. Getting 4G/LTE speeds. Icon is irrelevant...
