[Q] flashing modem on rooted device - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 5

How can I flash modem on rooted device?
Flashing modem only with odin doesn't seem to work for me.
Should I flash the entire tar file and then root it again?

how are you trying to do it.?? you know you supposed to turn phone off then put it in download mode for odin to work.???

Pull the battery out the device, wait about 15 seconds, replace the battery, press and hold the volume DOWN , home, and power button to boot into download mode, press the volume up button to continue into download mode, proceed to flash.

Not nearly enough information. You'd get a lot more tailored help if you described in detail exactly how you tried to change your modem. Then we could spot what went wrong. Be sure to include the versions of your OS, modem file and your flashing program.

it took all my yesterday but i guess i figured it out.. find odinv3 1.85, this is the one which sees the tab correctly, then keep your files unextracted from the *.tar format.. its icon should look like a rar file but the extension must be .TAR .. then by pressing the power+volume down buttons go into the black screen which asks you between download mode and recovery mode, by using the vol down button navigate to the download mode and with the vol up key select it.. then connect it to the computer, once Odin sees it click on the PDA and navigate to your tar file and then click on flash.. in 3 mins it will say PASS on the small box.. then when your tab is on this time go into recovery mode and wipe everything.. so it will be completely stock and just like when it is out of the box..

I've read it, but the guide is not answered my question.
@_delice_doluca_: thx, i tried it and it works for me.

need help flashing enthropy's kernel with cwm

can some one show me how to flash enthropy's kernel with cwm i tried flashing it on odin with the zimage in pda but its not working
Never mind I got it to work
You need to put the tar file in PDA in Odin.
Trying to flash my kernel in CWM right now doesn't make sense - since if you've got CWM you're already running it and I have only one release so far.

Can someone post more detailed instructions on how to flash his kernel? Im not that experience at flashing customs roms and kernals and i dont want to mess up my device.

Download Odin3(you can Google it) then download the tar file from entropy's post. Once in Odin put your device into download mode using power and volume down. Then connect to the PC click on PDA in Odin and find the file and then press start. That's about it hope this helps.

THANKS but I did not mean using cwm I meant to state that this kernel had cwm and I got it to work
thanks for the kernel

Entropy do you think putting touchwiz 4.0 would work on the sgp using this http://www.tutebox.com/3776/mobile/install-touchwiz-4-0-on-any-samsung-phone/
I personally don't know how to do this though
Every TW launcher hack I've seen was disappointing... I just use LauncherPro anyway.

just to be clear to enter download mode, i hold power and volume down at the same time? and if i want to exit just to test if i did it correctly, what do i do to exit? and does usb debugging have to be on? and after putting my device in download mode, i connect it to pc. i have it set on mass storage. thanks to anyone who helps.
No:
Turn the device completely off
Hold VolDn
DO NOT TOUCH POWER
Insert USB cable
You also need to install drivers for the device - they are usually included wherever you download Odin from.
Samsung drivers and Odin3 are available from here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1386669
DO NOT use the PIT file or the bootloader included in the same zip as Odin in that thread!

[Solv] Recovering from stupidity, help needed to restore my SGS2 to working condition

Edit:
After 3 hours of having the exact issue this post describes and tries to fix:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458
I gave up and went to bed, but as a last resort I did the exact same process i'd been doing on my desktop PC but in my laptop instead - and it worked.
So I would suggest anyone who can't flash using Odin try a different cable, USB port and even a different PC.
I was able to flash a KE7 O2UK firmware without any hassle whatsoever.
tl;dr version:
I tried to install a new modem, I9100_radio_XXKP8_CWM, then the phone wouldn't get past the exclamation/pc icon.
I can enter download mode, but cannot load any firmware - even the most up to date O2 stock.
After flashing CF-root KE7, I now have the SGS2 bootscreen with yellow exclamation mark, but I cannot enter CWM at all even after holding VOL UP, Power & Home for quite some time.
I have used the pit reflash option once and only once, as something made me think the modem somehow fubar'd the file system layout.
I was on a nightly of CM7, after everything i'd read I was under the impression I could just update the modem ad-hoc to gain whatever benefits it may give.
Does the issue i'm having suggest a bad bootloader, and if so, how do I fix it?
I'm no newb but I never really got the hang of flashing the SGS2 after the absolute ease with my HD2.
Thanks in advance for any ideas
Dan

Hi Dan,
if you have only done what you wrote, then your bootloader should be fine.
But what pit file did you used?
BTW, the pit option was not a good idea.
If you still can boot into download mode, re-flash CF-Root kernel.
Try to boot into (CWM) recovery mode after flashing the kernel by pressing Volume UP + Home + Power buttons until recovery menu appears.
If that does not work, you may have to flash a complete ROM.
If that does not work either, you may have to do a factory reset (in recovery mode) or hard reset (after normal boot by dialing "*2767*3855#") and then try to flash a complete ROM (in download mode with Odin).
Do you have a backup of a former system?
Nandorid backup from CWM recovery, or an "emergency" backup in KIES?
P.S.: Usually it is possible to flash only another modem to an existing system and test it. It seems that something went wrong for you.

I know I shouldn't be touching pit files but this issue hasn't been seen before in my Google searches and I was beginning to think the bootloader or file system was broken.

I have flashed KE7 and KE2 over and over again, but I cannot enter recovery mode - the phone simply sits on the very first graphic with the yellow exclamation mark. It's almost as if the Vol Up key doesn't work.

I can't flash any ROM at all. It gets about 30 seconds into the modem flash then errors. Kies isn't running in task manager, so i'm assuming it's a NAND issue.

I can't get to recovery, nor do I have any ROM installed, but yes I do have a backup so i'm good once i've got into recovery.

Kies won't connect.
As the phone isn't charging in its current state, I don't want to 'test' too many things as the battery may soon run out.
Thanks
Dan

[Q] Stuck and could use some assistance...

So at this point i've been working on this for hours.... i am a bit lost
- at one point many moons ago I loaded an gt-9100 rom on my i777. i removed that using this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20229527&postcount=46
- currently the phone was flashed to a stock + root using this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2236727
- the phone DOES boot
- i CANNOT get into odin anymore.... only android 3e comes up
- i CANNOT run anything via "apply update" in 3e, it keeps saying "cant access to '/system..."
- my end goal is to be able to load CM 10xx on this device...

Everything below is expected behavior. Sounds like your phone is fine.

You are using the wrong button combination. 3e is stock recovery. For Download mode, you need to hold down vol+ and vol- (but not power) while plugging in the usb cable. That is how you "get into odin." Unless you still have the GT-I9100 secondary bootloader on the phone which would change the button combination. If that is the case, then you eventually need to go to the Download Repository and get the sbl.tar and flash it with Odin3 v1.85. There are some alternate ways of getting into download mode, but I don't remember off the top of my head which one works in this situation. This can be done later and will not prevent you from flashing custom firmware.

Of course not. You still have a stock kernel with stock 3e recovery. Stock recovery requires signed files, and only AT&T can sign them.

You didn't say which stock firmware you have. You need to flash a custom kernel that matches your stock firmware (Gingerbread, ICS of JB - needs to be the same.) Use Mobile Odin lite or Mobile Odin pro. Then once you have custom recovery, you will be able to flash the custom firmware of your choice.

Thanks for assisting Creepy.
Now that I can get into Odin with the proper key's, what do I flash with? Or do I need to use mobile odin?

Need files!

Hi.
So basically I think my Galaxy S3 i9300 is bricked .When I turn it on it goes into download mode.I want to flash a ROM on it but have trouble finding the proper one.Can someone give me links to a ROM which has .pit, csc and modem files?
please point me in the right direction. Thanks
Depends on yre choice , stock or custom
I want links to a stock ROM please.
Sammobile is your best bet. It has almost all stock firmwares for all Samsung phones.
However , the download speed is limited to around 50kb/s for free users
SAMMobile only gives the .md5 file. I need a ROM with all the files I listed.
Try here : http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-I9300
The region codes are listed here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/csc-codes-t2090739
Note: you don't allways need to use all the files, in most of the cases csc and pda is enough
