[Q] Completely Stuck - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

I have been trying to fix this for days, I am not a complete noob and have combed the internet/ forum for an answer and have not found one.
About a week ago I was standing on a street corner and someone from a moving car threw a Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 at me. It caused me pain, so it is mine now.
No joke.
Having had some experience with rooting, flashing, and unlocking a Samsung S3, I thought I would see if I could get it going.
1. There is a pattern lock on it (couldn't read the grease).
2. The volume up button is not responding (I even took it apart to see if it was just the rocker).
3. It seems that USB debugging is not enabled.
I am trying to clear the Pattern Lock. I can't get into recovery because of the volume button being busted, but I CAN get into download mode and Odin DOES recognize it. I've tried everything I can think of to get ADB to recognize it, but it won't.
Is there anyway to Factory Reset from download mode?
I tried re-partitioning it with a Bit file and that still did not clear the Pattern Lock.
Please help.

Have you tried looking up how to crack the pattern and if you want to get in to recovery, then download ROM manager to reboot into recovery. If the down rocker works then you can navigate to wipedata and cache. But I would get a recovery that supports touch like twrp or philz recovery.

I have looked up how to crack the pattern, but the answers I have found tell me that I need to be able to make sure that I have USB debugging enabled and then access through ADB.

Go on YouTube and look up how to enable USB debugging through computer

I have tried everything. Holding volume up and power, down and power, both and power
Holding the whole time, letting go at the vibrant screen
I even did i factory reset and it wont work
Does anyone else have this issue?
It is going to ultimately force me to get a replacment device
I was wondering if there was somehing i missed

hold both volumes and power until you see the contact screen for the second time.

Same problem here. Spent a day trying to get it to work. Finally gave up and used the one click root method to get into recovery. This is my second Vibrant, so it's not that I haven't done this correctly before. Very strange, but one click worked for me.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
The one click doesn't do anything
It puts the update.zip on my internal storage then doesn't reboot or anything
Would it still work through adb?

I've spent several hours trying to get into recovery and download mode via the buttons. I've tried everything I've found on the forums, and pretty much concluded that the US Vibrant is seeing the same issue that Bell Canada and Aus Optus is with some phones not having the power button reboot functional for whatever reason. I'm going to return mine tomorrow for one that works. Hopefully I don't get any static about trying them out till I find one that works properly.
ADB works fine for me to reboot to recovery and download. I personally would use TGA_Gunman's root.
Hey guys. I just bought a Vibrant today and am having this same issue. No matter how many times I hold either volume button independently (or even together), I can't get into Fastboot, or I guess Download mode as it's called here. I'm coming from a Nexus One where it works everytime, so this is kind of weird. Launching RomManager and selecting to boot into recovery does work, but I don't want to rely on that.
Is the smart thing to go swap the physical phone?
I am having the same problem with my Vibrant. Anyone figure out how to get it into recovery?

As unpleasant as it may seem to do so, it really behooves you who are having those issues, (as am I with my 3rd replacement!!!) Vibrant, it is absolutely worth your while to set up ADB, for numerous reasons. It solves both of those issues and allows so many other options. Once you do the installation of the SDK on your PC and install the right drivers, it is not at all difficult to use it to do many important things much easier.

he means boot rom and hes right just download it from app store and click install clockrecovery and after that click reboot in recovery and your done.
The problem with relying on adb, Quick Boot, and Rom Manager is what are you going to do when you flash and your phone won't boot? You won't be able to get into download or recovery mode and you'll be hosed. Take the phone back while you can and get one that works.
Exactly. I'm curious if there's a way around this though. What is it
that actually causes the phone to boot into recovery with the hardware keys and is it something that can be fixed/flashed?
I already exchanged once within the thirty days and I don't think the 30 days gets reset. Think I'm past the return period now.

I'm so glad you wrote that. This is exactly my feeling. In ideal solutions, ADB or even installing a terminal emulator onto the phone is great. But for any dev who dabbles with modifying their phone in any way, having access to recovery directly from the phone is an absolute must.
Im having the same problem but let me ask could it be because Avatar is in the sd card?...I keep reading (NOW) that the Root zip files should be copy to a SD without Avatar....

There are two "SD" cards, an internal and external. The external one is the on that the user can swap. It also contains the Avatar movie (if it is the one that came with the phone).
The update.zip file should be copied to the internal SD card. The one WITHOUT the Avatar movie.
I also cannot get my phone to boot into recovery using the buttons. I rooted using one-click.
It seems to be an issue with new/replacement Vibrants. I have a thread about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=764360
If anyone has a device like this and can pull a dump file from it and upload it, that would be fantastic! I'm not sure if this is a physical limiter or a software based one, but I'm pretty sure it's software based on experience and manufacture dates. Once we get a dump, I'm sure someone will be able to figure it out.
And to back what the others said, I was able to adb download no problem, but when the Odin flash hung, there was no way to get back in to download mode and I ended up having to exchange the phone. As soon as my next one gets here, I'll test and post a dump if someone else hasn't already.

I had the same issue on a replacement Vibrant and this works for me to get into download mode (even after Odin hung and it looked 100% dead):
1. Removed SD and SIM card
2. Removed battery
3. plugged the phone into USB
4. held down vol-up and vol-down
5. popped the battery back in while holding vol buttons

Excellent directions. Worked like a charm.
OMG! I seriously thought my Vibrant was trashed! Excellent directions for getting your Vibrant out of Boot loop and into Download mode:
1. pull everything out of phone (battery, SIM, SD card)
2. Plug in USB cable
3. Hold down both volume buttons
4. Insert battery while holding down volume buttons.
My phone went into Download mode easily at this point.
In my case, my phone got stuck in Boot loop while trying to use ROM Manager for a new ROM. Guess I used it wrong, I'll just stick with installing ROM's by way of Recovery mode. Anyway, my phone stayed in Download mode until I flashed it with ODIN. I just flashed it back to stock and started over. Here's the link:

I'm so glad I didn't have to exchange my phone, I feel bad for those that had to exchange thier phones, this is a nice workaround.

[Q] Soft Brick?

Hello All,
First, let me say how much I've enjoyed reading this Forum and how much I LOVED my TMobile Samsung Vibrant 3G. While it worked for a long time running Froyo 2.2 with a Bionix Next-Gen V2 ROM, it was fantastic, but lately the microphone had been dying (I sounded more and more muffled no matter what I did). So I flashed up to ICS and installed Chimera to see if that might help. While the phone ran beautifully except for several apps that were rather wonky, I was getting more and more muffled.
So the other day I decided to restore my Nandroid backup, however when I flashed back I got stuck on the Vibrant boot screen. No matter what I do, I can't seem to get to Recovery.
How do I get back to Recovery from this? I have never used Odin, the only time I've ever hooked the phone up to the computer was when I originally flashed from Eclair to Froyo many moons ago. So please let me know if I'm missing something.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
You made a mistake when you tried to restore a 2.2 based backup from ICS base ROM. Now you must Odin to stock, its not that hard. First you will need to download the Odin program. I'm assuming you have device drivers on your PC but double check. Next you need 2 files, the 512 pit and jfd firmware file. Once you have those files you need to get in download mode.
I will link a thread with files and directions. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9375927

OK I installed Odin and the necessary files and drivers, I plugged in the phone, but when I try to turn it on into Download Mode the Vibrant doesn't respond. There's just the little spinning light in the center of the screen. Odin doesn't recognize the phone either.
Anything else I can do?
Odin won't recognize unless you are in DL mode. I linked a video, I know it says captivate. Don't worry about the mod etc just follow it to get in download mode.

OK watched the video, but 2 things:
-when I try to boot into Recovery it gets stuck on the Vibrant Samsung initial splash screen and never moves, even when holding down the 3 buttons;
-this video assumes I can access the phone to install the fix or anything else. I can't, it just stays stuck in the splash screen;
-I tried holding down the 3 buttons and simultaneously plugging in the USB cable, and still nothing but the splash screen;
-is there any way to turn on the device while hooked into the computer so Odin or something else can use the necessary files to turn it on and make it accessible?
Thanks all for your patience and advice, it's much appreciated. I LOVE this little phone and really want to heal her!
Hi,
I think you have tried to go to recovery mode using 3 button combo. But in order to use ODIN device has to be in DOWNLOAD MODE which can be done using following steps
1)start off with phone turned off
2)press down volume up, and volume down at same time, and never let go until you get into download mode. DON'T touch the power button
3) while holding down both volume buttons get your usb cable which is connected to your computer
4)plug in the usb cable into your phone, while you still hold down both up/down volume buttons at same time. Don't touch the power button.
5)As soon as you plug your usb cable into your phone, the phone will instantly go into Download mode.
6)You may now release the volume buttons

NOTE: here is a link I found. Just take a look http://www.ithinkdiff.com/how-to-access-download-and-recovery-mode-in-samsung-vibrant/
OK we are trying to get download mode not recovery. Your phone must be off for download mode. If it flashes vibrant screen you have gone to far and something is wrong. I specifically said pay no attention to the mod in video. Regardless I think you might need a jig to get in download mode.
I approve this message.
OK, noob error (smacks head), I kept saying Recovery Mode when what I needed was DL Mode, my sincerest apologies.
I got into DL Mode finally by holding down the Volume buttons (not the Power button), then plugging in the USB cable. The Vibrant promptly went into DL mode. Odin recognized the phone and off we went. It's now back to Stock Eclair (yuck).
So next question: am I rooted or do I have to do that all over again? And if so, what's the fastest way to do it so I can flash to the ROMs I knew and loved?
Lastly, a great big THANK YOU to samsgun357 & haarsh for all your assistance, you guys ROCK! :good:
No you are not rooted after using Odin to go back to stock. Glad you got it buddy! Now use this guide to get root and cwm recovery. Option b is probably what you want

Still the device is not rooted as samsgun357 said. but no worries it is a simple process to get rooted and go ahead. I will post an video and hope it will also ease up your task

Happy Flashing :good:
Yep, got it rooted and flashed Cyanogen7, then flashed up to an ICS ROM (started with Chimera but it's a tad wonky so flashed over to Euphoria, we'll see how that goes).
That said, the microphone is still sounding very muffled, so I think it's a hardware issue. I was due for an upgrade anyway so I picked up the Samsung 4G Blaze (nice since the Vibrant I had was the 3G). So right now I'm just having fun exploring Android on the Vibrant while I read up on how to root and improve the Blaze.
I will miss this little phone though, it was light and super fast and agile, perfectly sized, especially compared to the mini-tablets coming out lately like the Samsung SIII and LG L9 or HTC One. I prefer smaller phones, so the Blaze fits the bill right now even though it's heavier than my old Vibrant.
Thanks again for everyone's assistance, VERY much appreciated! :good:
Hey guys,
I'm having the same problem w/ my phone (see img).
I can't get out of the little loading pinwheel.

Download mode IS what you need to use Odin a get back to stock.
The above post shows the button combo for DL mode and recovery based on which bootloaders you're running (thanks haarsh). If you haven't flashed GB boots, you have froyo boots.
Now make sure you have the correct Odin files and drivers on your PC.
The goal here is to get power to the phone, while holding button combo, from the PC.
Do a battery pull/replace. Plug USB into computer
While holding your button combo (see above) plug the phone in.
Hopefully you see DL mode
Also try pulling battery, plug USB in PC and phone
While holding button combo, pop the battery back in.
This can be tricky sometimes so don't give up.
OK. Let me backup and give you more info.
So sorry...
I rooted, but was unable to download ROM manager from the Store (im assuming bc it was running Froyo).
I was able to get CMW to install via update.zip. Once installed the phone was going directly into recovery when asked (3 button method). It would go into the Anroid recovery, first and then from continually installing CMW, go into CMW.
From there i installed a CM10 nightly.
Install went fine, but no mobile data connection. I went back to CMW and restored the original ROM, rebooted and am stuck w/ the pinwheel.
I can't get into to download mode AT ALL. I've tried the various button methods with no luck.
From what I did, I can assume that 2.1 IS installed on the phone.
Thoughts?
Thank you so much for the help.
Well the issue you have was caused by going back to a 2.1 or 2.2 build from cm10 through cwm. You should have used Odin to get back to stock.
If you can't get in DL mode manually you will need to buy a DL jig. You can get them from www.mobiletechvideos.com also from amazon I think. You can also make one yourself, just search USB download jig, you should find it.

[Q] Is my galaxy nexus bricked?

Hi All,
I've got a Galaxy Nexus which looks like working till the standby screen kicks in and then it turns itself off. The phone is rooted.
Fastboot starts while I press the vol up+down+pwr buttons, but once I release them the phone turns off. The volume down+pwr buttons are doing the same effect. While turned on I can browse the whole system via file manager.
Once I connect to the USB cable (power or computer) it turns off.
The phone is i9250 running currently Android 4.2.2
I've tried to figure out some solution in the posts but I didn't find any relevant info. I need to reset the root access and reinstall the factory image.
THe other problem is when I connect the USB cable the phone turns itself off
I tried to download the OMAP flash file from Legija but the link doesn't work anywhere... If you have any info on that I would really appreciate

Yes, I can turn the phone on to normal use however it turns itself off when it is plugged to USB or if it is going to standby.
Since it is rooted, with a file browser I can access the root partition. I can NOT connect USB and I can NOT put it download mode or fastboot mode because the phone turns off straight away. I even can make short phone calls from it.
So I'm just after some info on how to fix the USB connection and put the phone back to original state so I can send it to Samsung for repair
Is USB debugging turned on or off?
try turning it on (if its off) and off (if its on).
i am asuming that it only turns off when you connect your phone to you PC, not to a wall charger right?
Bricked means the device just doesn't work at all. This commonly happens (bricked) when there's a software update and it gets half updated. Therefore, the answer is no, its not bricked, but you do have a serious problem there.

Bootloop and physically broken home button, help?

So I tried to flash clockworkmod recovery to my galaxy s2 and now it's on a bootloop and the home button has been broken for a while so is there any way to fix the bootloop in this situation?
Simple answer.....no.....
You're bootlooping so you need to get into recovery, you need the home button to access recovery.......
Get the home button fixed.....problem solved.
You *might* be able to boot into recovery through ADB.......don't ask me how, I don't know how......but I'm pretty sure that even that won't work if you don't have USB Debugging enabled.......
Sent from my infected_ KitKatted S2.....
I found that I might be able to get to download mode and flash stock rom with odin by using a USB jig. What do you think about that? The phone had USB debugging enabled when this problem started and the phone is rooted. I was earlier able to boot into recovery mode using adb but now I can't because PC won't recognize the phone since it won't boot correctly.
Try it & find out (the jig), but Keith's advice stands; if you do manage to get that done, fix the home button immediately after. You're just asking for the SHTF at some point & you'll end up without a working phone when you most need it (again).
Fixing the button is probably too costly and it's hard to do myself because I believe the screen has to be outfitted to do that. I'll order the jig now and report here if it solved my problem.
I was in a similar situation, tried flashing many roms. No luck.
Until I found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/general/guide-t2345831
The "Another option for i9100" did it for me.
Good luck!
Yeah I got the phone working with usb jig. I flashed official rom, that I downloaded from Sammobile, with Odin3.

[Q] Softbrick Need Help

Hello, i need some help with the problems i'm experiencing with my phone.
I'll go through all the steps I've done:
-suddenly the connectivity in my phone stopped working (no phone signal, wifi, bluetooth etc etc), this came up together with other issues: the power button of my phone rebooted the rom when held instead of giving me the choice to reboot or turn it off.
-i tried at first to get in the recovery with the 3 button "combo" with no luck since my power button apparently is still not working properly, if i keep holding the 3 buttons nothing happens until i release the power one; at which point the phone turns on.
-i got into recovery with the adb commands, flashed a new rom, no fix what so ever to the problems i was experiencing.
- i got inside the recovery again with adb installed a new rom this time performing a full wipe (system, sd card)
-once the flashing finished and i tried to reboot i got an error message e: cache could not be found, something like that, can't recall the exact text.
So at the moment i'm stuck in recovery mode, i pushed with adb a new rom, but after flashing it and trying to reboot i keep going straight into the recovery mode.
I tried flashing the original rom with Odin but i can't get into download mode, the power button is still not working properly and when i give through abd the command "adb reboot download" the phone reboots into the recovery instead of the download.
I'm completely stuck, tried everything i could think of yesterday, i would really appreciate your help.
Thanks in advance.

It dropped a few days ago, but i had no issues after it.
It all happened suddenly yesterday, no water damage or drop whatsoever.
The hardware issue is what worries me the most, i don't understand how holding the power button now equals to a reboot even when i'm trying to turn it on for the first time, starting from a phone that's turn off.
