Definitely a steal. In second-hand condition, Galaxy Player 4.2 is like ≤$50 here, while even the GSM, 8GB, non-LTE Moto G costs $130. If you managed to trade a 16GB or even an LTE one, I'd say the guy who made the deal with you would cry to want it back
Sent from Google Nexus 4 @ CM11
Haha, it was the original Moto G unlocked Boost Mobile/Sprint. The thing is, my carrier is not Boost Mobile/Sprint but I felt like trading it so maybe I could let my sister use it or maybe sell it later on for a better price, nonetheless, GP 4.2, which is only Gingerbread (so far), for a Moto G which is much faster and more powerful and receives the latest updates, great trade!
How does the sound quality compare to the GP 4.2?
Pretty sure the galaxy players have better sound quality than most phones

For me it seems, like the Players are having one of the best audio equipment (except the loudspeaker for sure) than most of the avaible smartphones.
I once tested it and the audio quality is better than the quality in
- iPhone 3GS / 4S
- Moto G
- Nexus 7 '12
- Galaxy S2/S3

No newer Samsung phones like the S2 and the S3 are using Yamaha Sound chips, while our devices are using the better ones from Wolfson.

Samsung needs Apple. Apple can find someone else to make chips. Samsung can't find another iPhone.
there HAS to be a reason why Apple is sticking with samsung though. Samsung can't be the cheapest manufacturer out there..lol
I'm sure Apple has the ball but why sue a company then funnel $$ back?
it's like.. one of them is the keystone species.. hehe (biology x telecommunications)
Product seems to be copying/imitating other manufacture specs lol.
Samsung Galaxy S II was announced like 8 months ago, released about 5 months ago with the spec of what Apple announced yesterday?
Samsung has manufacturing capacity. But part of that capacity is clout, samsung being a korean company, and much of the manufacturing going in taiwan and china. Apple is an american company. Think of samsung as a friendly buffer. Im sure apple is looking for another buffer though.
I voided my warranty and your mum.
I would say Samsung Galaxy S II is better than iPhone 4S. I am not sure about the camera. Does anybody have any idea how does the camera on Galaxy S II Performs. How is the quality. I know it is having 8 MP but what in terms of quality ?

I think they both need each other.otherwise one would break up with the other. Samsung is now promising to file more nuisance lawsuits than apple, claiming that no phone can be operated on the world stage without violating one of their patents.Maybe this will settle down the patent wars a little. But hey, they are still obviously doing allot of business together.
http://m.zdnet.com/blog/btl/samsung-seeks-to-ban-iphone-4s-amid-patent-row/59837
Funny lawsuit - Samsung suing to slow down sales of a phone that has their own processor in it. I wonder how much of this gamesmanship between apple and Samsung is for media attention and to justify higher cost.

Actually i would recommend the North America model
With it's LTE chip and Qualcomm Krait it outperforms the quad core exynos in a lot of aspects
As someone who has owned both (currently with the S3) you will be fine with either one of them.
Get the Galaxy Nexus if you want:
- Quick stock Android updates
- On screen buttons
- Access to an already large development scene
Get the S3 if you want:
- Better camera
- Larger display
- Better CPU
- Micro-SD support
- Touchwiz extra's
Since I like quick updates and on screen buttons I may be moving back to the Galaxy Nexus but I haven't fully decided.
Do you guys think the new Nexus later this year will have micro sd support? And maybe LCD IPS instead of super amoled?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
If I had to upgrade today then I'd do the same thing over and get the S3. I have to admit that I am absolutely green with jealousy over the Google Now feature in JellyBean that Nexus owners have just got...
S3 is a great phone, but I think that I'm going to sell it and get (one of) the new Nexus phone(s) later in the year, presuming it's a bit smaller. S3 is a bit too big for me to operate safely (ie. held securely) and comfortably (ie. holding it too long gives me cramp) with one hand. I think something slightly smaller would be a better fit for me.
Also, the value of being the reference device for Google is something I never really appreciated before now - I've spent years flashing Android phones with ROMs that are basically beta-tests, following Google putting out a new software version.
Not taking anything away from the devs at all I really appreciate their work, but it's really hard to get a decent ROM working on a phone that it was never designed for/drivers aren't available for/OEM hasn't put out an update for. And I know that despite being a really popular device, the S3 probably has a really long wait until a nice fully working JellyBean is available for it.

I hope it'll have external storage support. The screen I'm not too bothered about - my S3 is more than good enough for me, even if it's not technically the highest res around. If the new Nexus has that, or even better a SuperAMOLED Plus, or an IPS LCD screen then I'd doubtless be happy with it.

Even though a camera on a tablet is generally horrible (even our Players have horrible Res) and looks rather stupid when using it for daily usage, it acts more of a convenience, say when you really need to take an image at that moment or an app needs it for AR gaming.
Generally, devices without rear cameras are usually deal breakers for me. But so far, I am used to not having a camera on my Player due to lack of camera from our ICS ROMs.
So it really depends on ones usage.

Yeah but the majority of people who owns a tablet owns a smartphone too and the majority of the time, people have their smartphones with them. So it's not that necessary. Also I wouldn't like to pay 50$ for a crappy camera. I'm already happy with what they offer.

Depends on your use for it. The nexus 7 spec vs spec is obviously better than the Galaxy Player 5.0, however the 5.0 is way more portable. If you're like say a college student than I would get a nexus 7 sense you're not going to be moving around that much. The only draw back to me is the amount of space the N7 has.
camera on a tablet is horrible
bad position for taking pictures
Hi there,
Guys I am planning to buy a new high end android smartphone here in India, but I am a bit confused with Samsung Galaxy s3($530 or Rs29000) & LG Optimus G($603 or Rs33000). There is not a big difference in price but as I saw Optimus is much faster than Galaxy S3 and also optimus sports 2GB of RAM but S3 is having only 1GB of RAM.
Samsung is known for its better hardware utilization & regular updates while I dont have any idea about LG for the same. Guys please suggest me for which phone I should go ??

The LG is considerably better in hardware specs (newer, faster processor, double the ram)
The 1GB of ram certainly hurts the S3.
LG is bad at updating, but it seems they are trying to improve that. However there hasn't been a real transformation yet.
Despite this, the stock software from LG is less intrusive and more holo-like than TouchWiz, the aesthetics are better in my opinion.
Touchwiz has the upper hand in features though.
Go to GSM Arena, they have a comparison between them.

Software itself it's good IMHO.
Updates are really bad though - LG takes a long time to update non-flagships. Which in the short term won't be an issue for you.
But if you are planning to stay with the device for a long while, you might not see Android 5 for your device.
I don't know how good the development for the device will be, but it seems that S3's is far larger.
So, it depends, you could have better hardware, sacrificing future updates or development support (despite S3 having little of AOSP flavor, we have several quality stock ROMs, and that's without mentioning the top quality kernels available )
For the people that complain about Samsung and updates, see this :

Nice to see that they're making improvements, but as of yet it doesn't seem like a dramatic enough upgrade to consider replacing my current SGP
They really should either let their distributors know or eol an item AFTER replacing it. Back in feb their distributors told me the players were eol, so I have been searching China for a suitable replacement (wasting plenty of $ on r&d) and now I find *here* that the sgp2 is coming. Just now selling my GP5. Slow with the new ROM, inconvenient. Guess I'm just gonna have to settle for the new iPod Touch for now. -_- The thing had great battery life, except that it only went to 90% (???). Why can't they give any of these media players the new tech??!

Well, the nexus 4 now costs the exact same price as a GP ($200!), so I really dont see a way that samsung will have any success with a new media player.
GP 2
Woah! That's the first I heard about that (lol):victory:. Awesome news; great competitor to iPod. I'm really likely to get that now. Samsung may actually have to put quality technology forward to stay in the market. Considering their position, they'll probably give up. :victory:

Maybe never, Samsung is going to sell it first in South Korea and when it success there they will bring it to the US market. But they won't bring the GP 2 to the EU market.

Yeah, I don't have much hope that Samsung will ever do anything good for the SGP fanbase. At this point, the only reason they're still relevant (in this niche) is because nobody else (besides Apple) offers a full-featured media player.
At least if they come out with an updated player with similar hardware, we'll have official 4.x drivers that can be backported to the earlier versions.

Actually Sony was too at one point with their Walkman F, and Z series players.

Yeah they made that android player with better specs than the galaxy player but no camera, expandable memory and a crappy price tag. It didn't sell much. I think sony gave up on the walkman series. Maybe samsung will also
