Hello, I own a Galaxy Note PRO 12.2 LTE but it is a bit inconvenience to use it to make phone calls sometimes. I am considering to buy the Gear S making/receiving phone calls and also as a device to notify me to check my Note PRO 12.2 whenever somebody sends me message. (Easier to type on a large device.)
I heard that the speaker of the phone is located at the back of the watch. Since that area touches the wrist when the user is wearing it, I wonder if it makes it difficult to hear the voice of the other person. Also, do other people hear the user's voice clearly? Is there any noise cancellation system? Any experience appreciated. Thanks.
The device is not out yet so we really cant answer your question. I dont think you can use the Gear S as a stand alone phone 100% of the time though. Watching the intro video it showed calls being forwarded to the Gear S. That makes me think that you have to have your main phone on.
Did you say you can make calls from your LTE Note Pro? If so I would like to know how to do this. That would be a nice set up then if you can use that as your phone.
I thought that it functioned as a standalone phone? Sure you can connect them and call though your phone, but that is not what I would want.
I have owned one since 15 October. I was fortunate to get a free unit but had to pay full price for a Note 4.
I am using it with a multi-sim service, ie 1 phone number, multiple sims. This is so I can share my data quota and still have both my Note 4 and Gear S active without the need for a wifi hotspot.
The primary SIM is on the Gear S, and it is only tethered to the Note 4 if I want to download apps or updates. I make and receive calls on the Gear S WITHOUT needing a separate phone, but I am using a bluetooth headset with it.
If you don't use a headset, the speaker is serviceable in a quiet room or if you're in the car, since it's somewhat muffled. One odd behavior I found is that even though you have a headset, it defaults to the built in speaker all the time. I have to quickly anwer the call and tap the headset icon to switch it to the headset.
As to battery life, at best it lasts from about 9am to 6pm, at worst, with several calls, it lasts till around 3pm.
You COULD actually adjust the strap and wear BOTH the charger and watch together, having a huge bulky item on your wrist hahahaha, but it will extend your battery by at least a couple more hours.
I will be happy to answer any other questions.
Have you tried to use a Web browser? If so can you practically do some surfing?
Are those scratches or smudges on the face of the watch? I thought the watch came with gorilla glass. If not, I'll be purchasing a screen protector for the watch.
You can check the [REVIEW] thread for the Gear S and more pics in my G+ post link right at the top of the first post.
Those are smudges from somewhat sweaty hand :π

i used to use my Ipad as a phone with a App called Line2.
I have used Google Voice, Talk a Tone and Textfree with voice on my Samsung WiFi tablets in the past I was able to make and receive calls on my tablet. I have the tab S LTE now I'm hoping to pair the 2 tab S and gear S so I can have one simple card for the both and keep my Note 4 separate

Do you know which features from the Gear S i wont be able to use if i only have the Gear S connected via bluetooth?
I ask because i emailed my carrier sprint and they told i can buy the Gear S out right without a sim card but wont be able to use some features the Gear S as to offer.

Oh OK I don't want a 2 Year contract just for this gear S when I payed in full my Note 4 if you can keep me updated if Sprint decides to email you back that would be cool. I may just have to hold on to my gear 2 until someone sells the gear S on Craigslist/Swappa
Sure NP.
I got my gear 1 from swappa good deals there.

I got my gear 1 from there as well but this one requiring a sim card or uicc card does this mean we have to have a separate number for the gear S on Sprint because it has 3G only. I heard at&t/t-mobile can use the sim card with the same number. But the uicc card is tired to one device only I wonder if this will change somehow

Does the mini opera browser will work just using bluetooth connection not with a sim card?

I think except for actual calling and SMS, there shouldn't be anything you can't do as a tethered device. In fact you can even make "proxy" calls and sms since it is treated as an extension of your phone when connected via bluetooth.
Ok thank you.

I'm almost owner of a Samsung Gear S thanks to buying a new TV
Trying to be clever so i ordered a second SIM for this watch before it arrives. I ordered after phone contact with my provider a DualSIM card
But....is this the way to go? I'm not too familiar with Dual-SIM's. I know how those phones works of course but in two different devices that are connected in different ways?
Any feedback on this subject would be appreciated, maybe i can change my order if needed after reading your comments and/or experiences!
Thanks!

Sadly, in the US, it is illegal to sell more than one sim card per number, so we get a separate phone number for the phone that can be called directly, or that the main phone can forward calls to.
I imagine in your case, either the phone and watch ring at the same time or, as usually with two sims, your main device will ring first, then the second one after a preset number of rings.
I'd be interestd which of these two it is.

Okay....let you guys know when my watch arrives...I dunno if it before or after Xmas [emoji10]
The only way to have it ring simultaneously even when not connected by bluetooth is to use Google Voice.

Can you explain this?
Because after installing my Dualsim in my Samsung S4 Active and Samsung Gear S i'm only able to receive phone-calls directly on my Samsung Gear S when my phone is OFF (or in Aerplane mode).
Of course when connected to my phone it will ring on both devices. I think this is not a restriction of Samsung but of the Sim that is provided.
It would be great that if i leave the house without the phone i would be able to take the phones with the Smartwatch (and what is the use of the Dual-Sim option in the Smartwatch then?)
Hi, I recently bought this phone for $10 at Walmart. It is for Straight Talk. All I really need is a phone for my 8 year old to carry around the house to watch youtube. That's about it. So basically I don't need it to do anything other than connecting to my Wifi at home.
Is this possible? Or do I have to activate it with some prepaid carrier? Will it keep nagging me everytime to get prepaid minutes for it? And does anyone know whether it comes with the Sim card already?
Sorry. I left the phone at home and traveling until Tuesday.
Thanks for any assistance.
Vince
You might try disabling the setup app.
Hello.
The problem is as written in title.
A while ago my GF found this phone in woods in snow. It was barely visible so it must've been there for some time.
Of course it had passcode which we couldn't get past. Also was pretty strange because it didn't have a SIM card, which couldn't have fallen out because it had the silicone case around it.
We put up posts on her local facebook and on our public profiles, a month has passed no one has decided it's theirs so she gave it to me to reset.
Neither power or volume UP buttons were working but a little digging here and there and I found the microsoft tools to completely reinstall the phone. Now we have a nice spare phone in case any of ours breaks down, BUT we can't make calls from it. Tried both mine and her SIM cards, nothing. Signal is full, it easily finds 4G and I'm absolutely not familiar with windows phones(the last one I had was HTC Touch dual), but getting online - when WiFi is off - is possible. So it must mean the IMEI isn't blocked, right?
What could be our options or has she just found a fancy music player? (32GB is hell of a lot more than 8GB on my phone or even 16 on hers)
Thanks,
Tom.
i'm too have same problem.
i cant make call from my lumia 920.
can any one have solution

Dear Group
I am not sure if I am in the right place but I am looking for some help with the above watch.
The supplier Gearbest is not helpful at all.
This has forced me to seek help else where. I tried scouting around to find out who makes this watch then obtain perhaps an email . The supplier Gearbest will not release details of who makes this watch or a support email address. This has forced me to do my own searching.
I found a company who makes Rwatch but the the fellow I emailed deny this is their watch.
My problem is thus I bought the above watch. From Gearbest. It arrived here and fully functional except no communication via GSM ie cell phone data . I paid Gearbest a fee and they sent me a replacement watch and exactly the same problem it arrived fully functional but. No communication via GSM ie cell phone data.
We import a variety of gps tracking devices the majority have to be set up especially setting the apn depending on the cell service provider, I was wondering if the apn on this watch is not set correctly, hence the lack of data, it seems to me impossible that two watches of the same brand etc don't work on arrival here in South Africa.
I tried an alternative cell phone service providers sim cards in the hope that one would by chance work but alas I could get no joy.
I tried to plug the watch in to my pc via usb cable thinking I could perhaps telnet but could not make any progress on my own.
I was wondering if any one here knows who actually makes these watches, perhaps a support email address would really be helpful.
Alternately Is there any way of finding out if the watch is set up to the correct apn for example. How would that be checked via a sms command or a telnet session. Is there software that I can install that can probe the smart watch for its settings via the usb cable.
To me it seems silly to send the watches back at a cost to me and only to have them send another watch and we persist with the same impasse.
I was hoping with a bit of help or pointer and a few keystrokes we can have the watches fully working in no time.
If this is the wrong place to seek this type of help could you please direct me where to go to get the help I am asking for.
Thank you for your time and trouble reading this and any help you may be able to provide me with.
Regards

Hi, same issue here. Just bought the watch from Gearbest and there is a complete lack of support for it. I wrote a ticket to Gearbest demanding support and manuals, but I don't think they are going to provide anything...
Anyway, I gave been messing around and my trouble was that no data communication was in place. Only voice calls were working. I have found the codes to enter engineering mode; just dial *#3646633#. In the menu I have been able to go to GPRS act and activate GPRS. A big G letter is shown in the screen, but nevertheless, no communication is made, and the watch is still useless....
I have been messing around with the menus; been able to activate a serial port via USB and access via Putty to the watch and perform basic AT commands, but again, with no luck.
Other codes that work are *#66*# Factory mode and *#87# autotest.
If anyone can dig any deeper and find out how to make this watch work, they will be very welcome!!
Thanks
