What ROM/kernel are you using? - G2 General

Since a similar topic has 250+ pages on the Nexus 4 forum, it seems that it is not against the rules to share your personal setup in such thread. So let us get started and see what people like this time around

Atm i'm with cloudystock 2.4 + cloudykernel 1.4, i was testing the 2.5 release but it feels slower than the older version (2.4).

I use bruce's ROM and also bruce kernel. I like G2 UI more than G3 UI and also with G2 ROM you get the max features and stability of G2

Curently on stock 20f and bruce kernel

I've tried three roms so far, and here are my experiences with them. Please note that I respect the hard work of every developer - I am stating my personal experience which might not reflect nor represent the experience of other users.
I tried CloudyG3 1.3 with dorimanx kernels 6.8-7.6. Was a fantastic experience and I felt as if I got a new device. UI was beautiful and I loved the flat look. There were some occasional microstutter and battery life wasn't the best I had experienced (coming from stock unrooted) but the looks and the overall feeling was great.
Then I moved on to Pardus HD Classic 7.7 + dorimanx 7.7-7.8.
That was a fantastic rom, too. Battery life was absolutely extreme with dorimanx 7.8. I have next to no complaints about this comination because it works so good. With G2 Xposed and G2Tweaksbox I was able to get a G3ish look and everything was functioning well.
Yesterday I tried Mahdi 9-20 with its kernel.
That thing is blazing fast. Really. Battery life is on par with Cloudy G3. It is not as visually pleasing as CloudyG3 unless you're a sucker for AOSP. The main downside to it, is the horrible camera. My G2 used to take fantastic pictures, but since I switched, that ability is gone.
I might return to Pardus, but I'll give Mahdi a couple days first =)

Best rom until now cloudyG3 ! no need to change kernel.. !! cloudy kernel is just fine!! battery is good but perfomance is the best...
u can flash also g2 camera so u can have both G3 and G2 camera!
just the best until now... !
and stock roms are way better than aosp!

Now im using cloudy g3 2.0 or Liquid Smooth, aosp or g3 themed *_*

I'm on cloudy G3 2.0 with cloudy kernel. So far it seems more battery hungry than 1.3. But i need to make a few more charging cycles to decide if i will stay on 2.0 or go back to 1.3. Btw , dirty flashed and 0 problems

mahdi + bart dorimanx kernel.

Now on stock 20d with Dorimanx kernel (although time and again I try flashing others) ? so far this is my "go to" combination cheers!

AICP on the stock AICP kernel that was tweaked by @Snuzzo, only change from stock is using Intelliactive governor, it is the best combination I have found for a ROM on the VS980.

CloudyG3 2.0
Now testing different kernels/voltages/settings to see if I can improve battery life even more

Whats the best rom for data/network signal?
I did some speed test because im suspecting cloudyg3 gets lesser signal than stock.
My speedtest proves me right.
With 15minutes interval and same spot.
What rom can you suggest for data and network signal? Thanks.

Speed tests are not an indication of speed... Your signal strength (not speed) should be irrelevant to the ROM, it is a function of the radios which are independent of the ROM itself, although how its displayed to you via the bars is ROM dependent. There are at least a dozen reasons those tests could be different. To test your signal levels, use a tool like Network Signal Info and look at your dBm level, which should a negative number from -60 to -120 with higher numeric values indicated stronger/better signal (-70 is better than -90).
Although I like Speedtest.net for quick speed tests, it is very inconsistent, if your on the US consider FCC Speed Test as it is more standardized but I do recommend going into settings and disabling Background Tests and device wake-up.
I would try a couple other ROMs as well.

Nope no widgets. I'll have to try and freeze some more bloat.
Use setcpu, and use scaling performance so that it's truly running at 1.5GHz. Samsung uses "on-demand" speed scaling, so when you test, there's a chance it might be running at less than 1.5 if it hasn't scaled up to 1.5 yet
I'm running stock ROM (only rooted), CWM b4 recovery, and Da_G overclock kernel
Dont just freeze bloat uninstall it! I never freeze it.
i'm running stock everything except i run an installed Launcher. why would mine be higher than some others? does rooting slow it down?
here is my benchmark.
Using GO launcher, 6 home screens, 11 widgets - WidgetLocker Running in background w/ beautiful widgets.
SauROM w/ DaG kernel overclocked - 1.83 ghz - V6 supercharger script 1000+hp
My setCPU is 1.83 on "performance" setting (yes it makes a difference).

Couple things here, and by no means am I an Apple fan to ANY degree, but....
4S is close to year old technology, so comparing it to a brand new superphone like the Note (even the Skyrocket which has been to market for a couple months now) is silly. I generally like Phonedog and was genuinely surprised that guy would even compare the two devices. It sets a really silly precedent because 8 months from now, he'll likely make the same comparison between the Note and the Iphone5 which just might be similarly unfair, in the other direction.
Also, Quadrant is very nearly fraudulent in terms of its usefulness in showing the "actual" speed of a device, in a real-world sense, so I take ANY statement that starts or ends with Quadrant benchmarking with a huge truckload of salt.
Just my take...

[Q] I want nothing but sheer SPEED !

I am running MIUI. Not as fast as I want it to be.
Which ROM for utter, sheer speed?
I can't stand it when I am waiting for the phone....
willing to sacrifice it all, for the sake of responsiveness !
Help !
Should I just get stock rom? that is, roms based on Froyo will be faster?
unfortunately, there's seems to be an inherent delay in ICS. of all the ICS flavors i've tried, Doc's V6 seems to be the snappiest, although only after extensive tweaking. get rid of menu transitions, disabled scrolling cache, etc.
since ICS isn't officially supported, and probably won't ever be, I think 2.2 & 2.3 brews will be better optimized. I just came from a non-recognizable Bionix 1.3.1, custom handling of the framework, and was hoping to flash the lovely Bionix Blackout theme, but the author never got back to me.
as of this moment, i'm on WeUI 1.0. I may go back to 2.2 for one reason: Speakerphone. I've yet to find an ICS rom/kernel combo that doesn't screw up speakerphone. The mute/unmute bug seems to still be prevelant, although not as annoying.
I'm using Passion V13.1 clocked at 1.4ghz. My phones handles the OC without crashing. I've disabled many of the pretty things and I have 0 lag. Its been great.

I'm using ICS Zen 1.6 with Subzero #70
100% Supercharged - Overclocked.
Zero Lag.
I'm on Slim 3.4. I don't use any OC, but the phone is plenty zippy. The only thing that seems to lag is on startup while it scans for all the apps that I have moved to SD. Once that is done, I don't have any speed issues.

Performance varies from device to device. While cm7 might be faster for some (I used cm7 for almost a year) but the speed was nothing compared to Zen for me right now. Benchmark means very little in actual performance, so it isn't something you can really rely on in regards to how fast the phone will actually be.
Yea ICS is a pain.
For those that say you have no lag.
1:you have 1-4 apps
2:you don't use to its full extent
3:you don't like having a nice user experience.(which is why you disabled everything)
4:you obviously don't know what a smartphone is used for.
Lag is present in a lot of ICS ...you need to do a lot of tweaking for it to be vanished and even then a little hiccup will be available which is fine nothings perfect...it just gets to me when people say they have days without charging their phone and claim to have "zero lag"

Not true, actually.
1. I have over 150 apps on my phone right now
2. I certainly do. Lots of streaming, DLing, gaming, messaging, emailing, etc
3. I have most all my settings enabled atm, only thing I don't have is a pretty live wallpaper lol (but occasionally I do turn one on for a few weeks)
4. And that would be?
I get nearly 2 days worth of battery on ICS Zen with the stock battery.

That was day one of my flash, and I didn't use my phone very much as you can see...but even still, it had good life on the first day...the battery life has improved substantially since then (as it tends to once the rom settles) Now, I am constantly using my phone, and I can "usually" get about 36-38 hours on one charge.
It's the only ICS rom that has had no lag for me, whatsoever, and has excellent battery performance. I am speaking from my perspective, not any one else's. Phone's vary from devices to device...making a swooping claim like, "all ics roms are buggy and lag" is just silly. Just because your device lags on certain roms, doesn't mean that the performance of the rom is reflected by your experience.

Really Ridiculously Low Scores

I'm running Vanilla RootBox 5-18 w/ houstonn minimum 167ghz kernel. These are real crappy Quadrant Standard scores. I'm amazed at how bad they are. I've ran RootBox before, and I was getting around 7000+ I'm not sure why they've dropped so much, and on stock I got 8000+ but this.. This is just sad. I'm not saying this is a RootBox problem, Im just wondering if any of you guys are getting these results?
I tuned everything to its MAX for one and the other one is the usual settings I have it on. But for it to be on max, isn't this a little low.
The 5k one is max settings the 3k one is my normal settings.

Eh. Benchmark scores are influenced by so many things, they're not really a very good indicator of performance. Does your phone do what you need it to? Is it quick enough for you? Then don't work about any bm score.

Yeah it is still snappy quick. I'm just obsessed with my bm scores. I have a old phone that is a peice of crap, and now they are about equal in benchmark scores. :/ Its just a little frightening. I think it may just be getting lower and lower because flashing things adds junk, then when you get rid of that and add a different thing, the junk stays there and just keeps piling up. Do you know if LGNPST completely gets rid of everything? or just /system, /data?

What??? When you flash a different ROM just wipe "system reset" and if you want system. That will format you data, system and cache partitions. This is known as a "clean flash". Then wipe dalvik/cache and reboot.
BM scores are irrelevant. What matters is how the ROM/phone performs.

That's not why. Software can influence benchmarks. I've used some lagfixes on my Captivate to push it higher than some S3 scores. Ignore benchmarks they have no importance. I'd worry more about the phone doing what I want without issues.

This. And also, the quality of the benchmarking solution can be an issue as well. I have heard that Quadrant is outdated and does not benchmark fast, quality phones very well. Check out Antutu maybe....

Its always been easy to cheat at synthetic benchmarks. They're worthless.

I'm going to disagree s bit an say benchmarks are good for testing a phone against it self. Has your phone gotten higher scores before? If so, my guess is temperature throttling. Down load quick system info app. It will show cores and usage while operating so you can see if you're reaching top max settings. Click arrow next to info in notification tray and info will float like qslide
OG e970 stock+
mystery emotionz 5.1
1.72 GHz oc/uv
It's not entirely throttling. I've disabled temp throttling, run it in the deep freeze, etc. I also check time in state logs to verify that all cores stay pegged at maxfreq.

What widgets and apps do you still have running in the background? That affects performance. I have bloat disabled and I can routinely get 35K and above. Highest score was 37K.
Benchmarks mean nothing if you don't know the exact state of the device.
I just tested mine and got 34222 as my score. Still a little slower than my HTC One M8.
the G3 throttles back really easily. Unless it's been sitting idle for a while or you've disabled throttling, you won't get 35k+. see this

It looks like the benchmarks are showing that the performance of the G3 is being hampered by something. What am I missing here? While I like the G3, I can't figure out why it performs worse than the G2.

The display. Same 801 processor having to push that many more pixels. Although, I recall watching a video of the G3 Alpha(I think it's called Alpha, it's the G3 variant with an 805) and it didn't perform all that much better than the non 805 G3.

Newer, faster clocked chip with another gig of ram...I would happily sacrifice some pixels for a quicker experience...it reminds me of the Asus Transformer Prime vs the Transformer Infinity...the older version was better in my opinion...

Daily driver for oneplus 2 [DISCUSSIONS]

To avoid messing up development threads with posts like "What is your current daily driver rom for oneplus 2? What's the most stable rom for oneplus 2? Which rom gives you best battery life on your oneplus 2? etc..." I create this thread so you guys can talk about your current daily driver rom for this phone. Why you choose it? What is your experience with it? How is battery life, stability, etc..
Let constructive discussions begin!
My daily driver: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=69267890&postcount=968
The smoothest and fastest rom I've ever used on my phone so far! It's quite stable as well. And it's Nougat! I love halogenOs 7 !:good:
Why do you reserve an post in an discussion thread? lol
at the moment I use DU with Bensschold's kernel. Imo, its performance is lower than slim6 and it has some freezes/crashes. I'm not planning on changing until xposed gets released for nougat. I recommend slim6 rom with boeffla or bensschold's kernel. Excelent performance, even with viper4android and screen off. (I get a lot of stutters on DU)
CM14 by @Seraph08 and Benschhold kernel give me best SOT and battery. ( stock kernel too)

It was just to attract other posts
I'm currently on halogenOS 7. Smooth and fast to the point of being ridiculous. Coming soon to an XDA thread near you.
In my opinion best ROM: [email protected] from 03/10/16
Best performance by really good battery life
No tweaks
All sync on
One day without wi-fi
And these my sot:

tipsy with benscholds kernel.
Sent from my ONE A2003 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Still no N ROM fixed the echo sound while calling?
Never had this issue...
Where is the echo? On your phone? On the counterparts one?
It's on the other side. Afaik every rom is facing this issue

Unfortunately this issue was even on marshmallow roms, this is one of the main reason that I'm still with oxygen ... I think the second mic is actived while the other side talk
Thx...
But the most important question is "when could we expect 7.1"
LOL
H2OS (009) is my daily driver. Rock solid, a lot of little tweaks and options that are rock stable af well.
Although, it did take over 2 weeks to get used to the bottom swipe notification bar.....

Screen on time is roughly 4-5 Hrs for me, and Doze mode (stand by drain) seems to be quite negligible.
I'll upload a screenshot of my battery life tonight
