what exactly is the device doing to be soft bricked? All the files in the thread you linked are correct so its kind of hard to help figure things out, did you make the proper selections in odin?

Only thing i can think of is repeating the steps into download mode by doing, power down Phone if you had not already, remove the battery, plug USB into Phone, hold down both volume buttons and while holding both, insert the battery. If that fails to work I'm afraid it could be hardware failure, I've had it happen to me once but i was lucky and was covered by insurance and had it replaced for free. I've had much better luck by powering off the device while holding both volume buttons down inserting the batter followed by usb cord just be sure to have Odin up and running first. hopefully you get your device back up to par...

Wait, if you are the guy with the T959V model, these forums are not for your model, let alone the JFD firmware which is for the T959. Link for your specific model: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s-4g

I have a vibrant and I was rooted my cell phone when the phone's version was 2.1 eclair
I tried to upgrade to 2.2 froyo by official updating
After updating my phone did not show any screen so i tried to return original rom by odin.........
However, odin did not work for the phone... Always stopped when odin tried to install modem.bin.............
And now my phone does not work and even I cannot turn downloading mode or recovery mode........ It is just not work like when the phone's battery is done....
Plz if someone know how to fix it, explain me...........
Not sure what's going on here, but a few more pieces of information might help others figure it out:
First, what ROM were you running? Given the fact that you officially updated, I'm guessing rooted stock? Not sure if this is relevant to your problem, but were you running a lagfix of any kind?
Second, how did you enter Download Mode? Did you select it from a Shutdown menu? Or did you use the Volume buttons while plugging in the phone? EDIT: Forgive my stupidity. You obviously used the buttons, as you entered Download Mode after bricking.
Third, what version of Odin are you using? Did or didn't you select repartition?
Finally, which stock file did you use when restoring?
Take out battery , plug usb into comp. Then while holdin vol up and down plug in usb.

hi
I rooted the phone before I tried to upgrade official update.
And I did not use any custom rom, I just used legfix
And I tried to use T959UVJFD this rom to restore my phone....
and I used odin v1.7
i tried to click or non click repartition both but when I did first trying
I did not check repatition and I used volume down button to join dowloarding mode.
try to Odin with Eugene's froyo that doesn't brick THEN Odin back to stock. Link should be in the Bible thread at the top.
This method has helped me in a brick before.
lol i swear im explainin this second time this issue already today , go hook up your phone to wall cahrger for 5 min , unplug cabole from chsrger and unplug phone from cable hook up cable to computer remove battery from your phone hold vol up vol down hook up usb cable that is already hooked up to computer connect it to phone while still holding vol up vol down bam u got it there if it didnt work hook up phone to wall charger to 10 min instead of 5 trust me i went thru same storry .
i went with every imaginable story of brickin my vibrant lol
i thinkk chance of you brickin that phone to the point that wont ever turn back on is like one in 1000 if not more unles u fried the phone and i dont know id thats possible P
First, make sure you have at least Odin3 v1.3 when attempting this. This version includes a Samsung specific .dll that is required to get a successful load with Odin. Then follow these instructions to flash back to stock.
http://martint.net/2010/how-to-use-odin-to-go-back-to-stock-jfd-2/
from there, just root, install Clockwork Mod Recovery, flash and enjoy.
I used 5 different roms to restore my phone..... but it still stop when odin try to install modem.bin............ I do not understand and very bad.... how can i fix it...
and I tried to find eugene's froyo rom... but I cannot find download link........
plz help me.... I will appreciate every guys......

Then its odin. Try to find an older version. Yep I said that. I run 1.3 still because it works every single time.

I'm just grasping at straws here, but you might try using every version of Odin (as has already been suggested by several posters above). Also, make sure you remove your SIM and sd card. Lastly, run Odin as an administrator. I don't think the admin part is related, but it can't hurt to try.
Look for Eugene's froyo on Android Spin. I DLed it a few days ago.

My phone is 100% bricked, I was flashing blitzkrieg bootloader to flash his ROM and something went wrong.
Now my phone wont turn on, wont nothing. . .
So the Question is: has anyone went out of this? I now the jig method, but I searched and didnt find anything.
eif you borked the bootloader there is a good chance there isnt much you can do besides a jtag reset, now a jig wouldnt hurt to try but i wouldln't count on it working. i personally will always stay away from bootloaders until i get my own jtag rig.
Goodluck bro hopefully the jig works.
if the vibrant is originally yours you could make a warranty claim with samsung stating you were attempting to flash 2.2 through keis and your phone wont work now, otherwise like said jig maybe, Jtag almost assuredly, will fix your phone.
If you are actually considering a JTAGing, search in the forum for connexion2005. He have lots of experience doing it and have a website and everything.
Its sad, but you remembered me why i shouldn't mess with the bootloader. Goodluck with your phone bro...
What happened during the bootloader flash? I just flashed the GB bootloader and the whole process was over in less than 10 seconds, not much room for error..

I couldn't agree more with everything in this post. Nice community situation here

Your battery probably died.
You dont have to flash a pit with it because it uses the phones native pit when flashing the bootloader.
Also, the OP for the gb Bootloader states that it CHANGES the key mapping. volume up and power gets you dl mode. Try that before jtag. I had this problem trying to flash the rom because i couldnt figure out recovery. Turns out I didn't read it right. I read it through, just didn't interpret it correctly.

Hi All,
I tried to flash my friends i9100 (it had arabic 2.3.4 firmware, but i didn't write down the exact firmware number), to I9100JPKI1 2.3.5 1 file update. But it gave "FAIL" result in ODIN. After that phone got stuck on Download screen. I removed battery and restarted the phone. And after it got stuck on the following screen (pic at the end of post)
I tried to flash it again by odin but it's not flashing (Attached pic of ODIN after unsuccessful flash below). Any ideas how to restore the phone?
it seems connectivity problem. Have you tried another USB or another USB cable?
Yes, tried different cables on different computers. The phone is booting with this phone-warning triangle-computer logo immediately. Even samsung logo is not coming before it.
Are you able to access recovery mode? If yes, try to do a full wipe.
EDIT: Try to Kill all process of Kies, and see if Odin recognize your phone
No, it's stuck on this screen. i can't put it in Download mode. Even if i start it: Volume Down+Home+Power this screen is coming.
ODIN can't recognize the phone.
Ouch, I see repartition and a PIT file, that usually means the phone is really dead; a job for the service centre.
Which guide did you use?

I tried to follow following guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1108499.
Did
1) Turn off your phone. Unplug it from your computer etc
2) Hold down home, power, and volume UP. This will enter recovery mode. If you are using CF-Root, you'll get CWM recovery. If not, you get stock recovery. It doesn't matter which appears.
BUT phone is not going into recovery mode.

I think that you need to leave the phone to Service Center.
The thing is that the phone was bought in another country, so there is no warranty in my country for it. That's why i'm searching for solution myself.

I had a problem weeks ago with my phone too. Tried a lot of things and nothing fix the problem. But when i was losing hope, i found the solution by myself.
My problem was only IMEI number and i recovered it. I think that your best choice is read a lot before take some decision. And the most recommended choice is leave the phone to Service center.
Good luck!
Maybe JIG will be useful to put the phone into DOWNLOAD mode?
P.S. : I am keeping going to Service Centre options as a last resort.
If there is any way to get Odin to recognize your phone there is still hope. Try to get into download mode in all possible ways, sometimes it seems lost but suddenly you get in. Make sure Kies is not running in the background.
If you cannot get into download mode, even with a jig, and Odin never recognizes the phone, it is a job for service centre or JTAG or something, but not yourself.

Finally, Alhamdulillah, i solved my problem of i9100g flashed with i9100 firmware. First to go out from "phone - yellow label - computer" mark i flashed it with i9100g original kernel Kernel_I9100GDZKI1 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1276105&page=3. after that it became possible to put the phone into download mode. after that i flashed it with ODIN USING PIT FILE FOR OMAP4 from the same forum and with i9100G new firmware. and that's all, phone is working again.
So I was helping my friend with her China Galaxy S2 GT - I9108 and I foolishly tried to flash "GT-I9100_ClockworkMod-Recovery_5.0.2.3.tar" onto her phone through odin...
Now it's stuck at the yellow triangle everytime when I boot up. I've bricked her 500$ phone...
Please tell me anyone, how do I make it work again?
There are chinese methods apparently but I am not chinese.... I just wish someone could provide reasonably well written instructions and DL links so I can fix her phone! Please!
Since it is apparently a Chinese only model phone, I think you'd be hard pressed to find any English websites that can help you... Maybe some Chinese sites, with Google Translate? Not perfect, but it's something.
Try to find stock firmware and flash it via odin. Google translate can help you for chinese sites.

Possibly, but don't use any of the firmwares linked within, as they are all for i9100 model phones.
Go to samfirmware.com to find stock i9108 firmwares. Download one from there, (you'll have to register but it's free) and flash using that guide. Again, don't use any files linked from the guide as they are not meant for your phone. But the steps should be the same.
EDIT: actually, don't use that guide. Just download an i9108 firmware from samfirmware.com, flash it in Odin in the PDA field, then do a factory reset. Then you should be good.

Don't worry about product code. You know you have an I9108.
The site is a tad confusing. You have to click the Firmwares tab, then click Type: Smartphone, then OS: Android, then Models: GT-I9108, then Region: Asia. That will get you a list of stock firmwares for the i9108.
Edit to add: Also, ignore the box at the bottom that says "LATEST FIRMWARES". If you notice, the models are all for a different model of phone; not the GT-I9108. The PDA for the I9108 should always start with "I9108".

I'm there! However theres none under the list O_O is it just my browser not loading the list? It wont show haha
Edit: NVM I forgot to click "asia"
edit 2: You reached your hourly traffic limit.
You can wait download for 13 minutes or upgrade to premium
Oh my goodness hotfile... ugh.
FYI, this may or may not be of interest to you.
I found this page using google that suggests that the i9108 uses the same SoC/chipset that the i9100G uses. Which is why you had issues when you used an i9100 kernel to try to root.
EDIT: well, you never explicitly said you were rooting, but you were flashing a kernel that had CWM Recovery in it, so I assumed you were rooting.

Well, during one of the boot cycles while the plug is in, try holding vol down and home. Maybe you'll get lucky. OR take out batt, hold vol down and home, (keep holding) then put battery back, and THEN press power till screen lights.
If that doesn't work, you may need to try obtaining a USB jig. You can order them on eBay or construct your own. There are instructions all over google on how to do it, but they cost like $2-3, so I just bought one.
So since it still powers on and home button works the USB jig should work right?
And flashing to stock firmware using PDA option on Odin should in theory work right?
Can you reccomend a link for a good jig? Don't wanna buy a bad one.

If i remember it correctly, it will stuck at setup connection.
Trying to flash a ROM while the device is booted will be about as successful as trying to perform a triple bypass on yourself. You must be in download mode to use Odin because the ROM cannot be loaded and replaced simultaneously.

I doubt you bricked your phone unless it had to get repaired via JTAG or mobo replaced. There is no such thing as a soft/hard brick no matter what anybody on here tells you, your device is either "bricked" or it isnt. You more then likely just did bad flash and couldn't work out how to re-flash correctly, its extremly common for newbies to "think" they have bricked tehir phone when in fact all they have done is screw system up.
Anyway to answer your question no you cant flash rom over current rom while the current rom is already loaded/booted, thats just common sense and a bit of a silly question really.
However there is a mobile version of ODIN called "Mobile Odin" which is available from market which will enable you to flash files like Odin does but via your phone. You load the program up choose files and it reboots into its own recovery and flashed that way.
Mobile Odin is available in Google Play.
NO,you hv to boot in to download mode first

I doubt you bricked your phone unless it had to get repaired via JTAG or mobo replaced. There is no such thing as a soft/hard brick no matter what anybody on here tells you, your device is either "bricked" or it isnt. I know about Mobile Odin - the only reason I asked was because I was intrigued. I thought clicking Start would reboot in Download Mode and do the flash, but obviously not
I did brick my phone (it would not boot up, only got a little hot, jig didn't work, three button combo didn't work) so I sent it off to Samsung and they repaired it.
