Today while getting lunch my GS4 shut off and wouldn't turn back on. I am running Hyperdrive RLS18.1, and it has been working fine up until today. I have tried everything to get it to boot past the samsung custom logo. The steps I take to get it to the logo are- 1) Take out the battery 2) Put battery back in 3) Screen boots up with samsung logo(if it is plugged into the charger it shows the charging battery then goes to black) 4)the screen turns off. I have tried putting it into download mode by holding the home-power button-volume button combo, but it won't boot into download mode. I tried plugging it into the computer and it doesnt recognize it because it is off. I have two different batteries that I tried to put in the back, but they both do the same thing. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to go about fixing this? And if I go into the verizon store and my phone gives the samsung logo with custom underneath it will they uphold the warranty? I doubt since rooting voids it....Thanks for any help in advance!
After trying some more options to fix the phone, I was able to get it into download mode, but then the screen turned off again. I realize that the problem is the screen won't stay on for more than a second or two. No matter what comes up, the screen turns off. But when plugged into the computer, it also just shuts down.
can you get into safestrap?

I actually had this phone before the bootloader was locked, I think. I never had to use it to root.
I have no idea why this worked, but after letting my phone sit all night, I tried this video -https://www.youtube.com/watch?annotation_id=annotation_1286109531&feature=iv&src_vid=SSLZFmhmBlc&v=uc0afHKahR4 . I have no idea why it worked, but it did. So if anyone comes upon this thread and has this problem, feel free to contact me and I will try to help you fix the problem.

Hey guys, I'm having a problem with my i9100. Yesterday, I left my phone plugged in and charging. When I woke up today, my phone was off. When I tried to turn it on, the phone would get to the boot animation, then promptly turn off. Then it would show the battery loading image, and the phone would restart again. Repeat ad nauseum. When my phone is plugged in, it would forever loop like this. The looping would only stop when I unplugged the phone. The phone doesn't react at all when it is unplugged.
Now, I can't enter recovery mode for whatever reason, and when I try to boot into download mode, the phone says it can't download because battery is too low. I suspect the battery is shot, but I can't confirm. Has anyone faced this problem before?
(Can't take it in for warranty because I rooted and I can't boot the phone to reset...)

Same problem here...
Recently flashed Neat ROM and when I put it to charge it shows the battery, gets stuck and turns off.
Can't get it to start or flash a new ROM because I can't get past the battery screen.

If you can't boot it then Samsung can't either to check it.
My Samsung Stratosphere turned itself off sometime and now is rebooting to the Samsung logo, and then turning back off, and rebooting (a couple times earlier it booted to the main android menu, but turned back off immediately afterwards) and when I plugged it into the charger it acts like it's charging and then turns off and acts like it's charging and over and over again, even when the battery indicates that it's at more than half full.
Does anyone know what's happening? (no custom ROMs or anything, it's all standard btw). I took the battery out and everything and it still does the same thing when I put it back. I tried to do a factory reset, but the recovery mode screen always jumps away when I try to activate it (I press both Vol+ and Vol-, recovery mode screen comes up but goes instantly, then the phone goes into a boot loop again).
Please help, thank you!

Hi, I'd recommend sending the phone into warranty, add the phone isn't rooted, you can't do much.

Had same problem on 3 phones. This is a connection problem within the phone. Disassembly & cleaning contacts often helps for a while, but problem comes back. Bumping the phone on the side or top, often allows it to work properly, for a short while, and so does squeezing it, in certain places. Get a new one, since the problem will re-cur.
My buddies rooted i717 with CM10 4.2 has been running great. Then it started to turn just turn off on it's own. Last time it turned off now it won't turn on.
When you hit the power samsung logo flashes normally then screen goes blank. At this point it keeps making that powering on vibrating sensation repeatedly. Touch power button and this routine repeats.
It will not boot into recovery. After the sammy logo flash continuing to hold down power +/- does not yield recovery mode. It just starts the vibrating loop.
I thought I will just install stock via kies or flash JB via odin. Well odin mode turns on ok but shuts off after barely 2 to 3 seconds. I have tried this with and without battery, plugged in and not plugged in on pc but end up the same way.
I have checked battery, same is super aok. I swapped batteries with my i717 and mine turns on just fine all the way. My buddy doesn't mind any which way the phone comes back to life.

If you read and run any kind of search, you would find similarities to the all common stuck power button.
Flick tye back of the phone a few times.
I know, you can feel it click.......doesnt matter, flick the phone.
If you are brave enough, you can open phone and clean with qtip and alcohol.
I am not.

I did actually, it didn't work. I thought there's was something that could help before I have to open it up cause of time. I change ports, cameras, etc on these models so it's not a biggie to clean it. Will do this this weekend.

There have been multiple times that I couldn't get into recovery mode, but download mode worked fine.... I just reinstalled CWM and reflashed.
May not help the root cause, but may get you past the no-recovery mode issue.

Neither works. DL mode turns off after 2-3 seconds; I have even induced it with a DL dongle. Repeats the same. Recovery mode is a no go-phone flashes sammy logo and goes silent. You are right the first issue to fix is the power button. I will update this weekend once I take it apart. Thanx all the same.
I am stuck with my Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4 (I-545 on KitKat 4.4.2 NC5 using safestrap) that I rooted months ago and all the sudden has stopped working.
I had it in my lap and it turned off when the battery was around 50%+ and will not fully turn back on. The only life it gives is when the battery is replaced, which it flashes the first boot screen then turns off. When I plug it into the charger the phone will not do anything whether I replace the battery or not. I cannot boot into "Download Mode" or "Recovery Mode" because the phone turns off before I can attempt that.
I have taken it apart and tried to see if the power button was stuck pushed in and it seems not to be because it clicks smoothly as it would. I tried to softly and firmly tap it on the power button side of the phone to get it unstuck but that did not help either. I have also tried a few different batteries and that does not seem to change anything.
Wondering if there is a solution to this as I do not believe I can mail in the phone with insurance because it is rooted. Anyway to fix this problem?
Thanks in advance.
Hello!
So today my phone had 4% left on battery, I switched it on to show my friend a photo and suddenly the screen turned into so many different colors and just stuck there. I took the battery out and turned it back on, tried to turn it on with no results at all, not even the looping samsung galaxy SIII screen! I thought it was the battery so I put it on charge, but nothing shows; no red LED nor battery screen. I took my battery out for 10 minutes, turned it back in and tried to charge it again, also nothing. I used a different charger, also nothing!
My phone is rooted with the newest CM 11, Kitkat.
Anyone has an clue what just happened? What was that colorful screen?
I would really appreciate some help, thanks!

We have 2 things here:
1. The phone turns on but no screen.
2. The phone don't turn on.
If it is No.1 then you can boot into download mode and flash stock it is hard but possible. Try holding power+home+volume down for 5-8 seconds and then press the volume up key(try volume down to not sure about this one)and then connect the phone to your PC and see if odin recognize and then flash stock and if you are lucky it will get fixed. I got such a problem with my friend's phone and fixed it this way. If it turns on and stock didn't help and if it won't turn on the only way I recommend is to give your phone to a Samsung service center.
