I've recently purchased an ASUS Fonepad 7 with Android version 4.3. It's been 2 months and I've noticed abnormally high background data utilisation from Android OS (both wifi and mobile).
I've disabled google backup, turned off all sync but nothing has solved it.
Can you please help.

Hi, some months ago, I put Cyanogenmod 10.1 on my Galaxy Ace. It wasn´t very fast, but caused no problems and was usable. This morning, I woke up only to find out that my phone used lots of data overnight. I got a text from my carrier saying I'm 2,5 gigs = 100 euro's past my limit. The Android data usage menu states that the Google Play store used 2.23 GB, but auto updating via mobile network is disabled and I only have 7 apps installed.
I know that I can't undo the usage, but I'd like to know what may have caused this excessive data usage.

Does anyone know a reasonable explanation for this?

Yoyr apps might have additional data that needs to be downloaded. Plus google play is a fickle app. It can disobey your commands. I would advise you to turn off your data when not using it. It'll save you battery

I'm not sure how wide spread this issue is but it seems like an operating system issue. I'm using Jellybean 4.3 on my nexus 4 with a customer rom crDroid. I have another nexus 4 with stock rom and not rooted and a nexus 7.
My tablet has 2 profiles on it. My wifes and mine. If I log into myself and try to transfer via nfc from my nexus 4 phone to the tablet it works great. But then when I switch to my wifes profile I can't transfer anything. It comes up with the notification to click to beam. But it doesn't allow me to beam anything. I have to restart the tablet and log in as my wifes account first to be able to nfc to her profile.
I'm thinking this is an glitch with android 4.3 Can anyone confirm this issue and whether it is a an operating system glitch or maybe just a nexus glitch.
Hi, so I've been facing a huge data drain on my android phone and the culprit turns out to be the Android System app
I've searched throughout the web for a fix to this annoying problem but to no avail.
I've used all kinds if firewalls from droidwall to lightningwall but the problem is persistent.
All I know is that the app still uses data even when I don't have Gapps installed!
Has anyone found a solution to this problem?
I'm using Cm11 on galaxy s2 plus
(This problem occurs in all ROMs I've flashed from stock 4.2.2 to paranoid to liquid smooth to cm)
Thanks in advance
I don't recall this being an issue when I first got my Nexus 9 Wifi, but perhaps it occurred as a result of updates to Lollipop since the original 5.0 release. Anyway, here's the problem:
My Nexus 9 is unable to detect its location while location is set to 'battery saving mode'...using only wifi and cellular but NOT GPS. My HTC One M8 GPE functions perfectly in this settings.
My Nexus 9 IS able to detect its location if I change the location setting to 'high accuracy mode'...using all of the above in addition to GPS.
I thought that perhaps this was happening because the Nex9 doesn't have cellular but my old Nex7 is wifi only and functions perfectly in battery savings mode.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Might it be an issue with the latest release of Android 5.0.1 that my Nex 9 is running?

Same issue here. I do not know since when this became a problem.
Location is working only on high accuracy mode.
Hello,
I have HTC One M7 with Android Revolution HD One 36.1 and recovery TWRP 2.6.3.4 .
I was running it like this without any issues for more than one year. Only recently (few weeks back) phone started to download huge amounts of data. It downloaded few GBs during weekend. All these downloads are displayed as Android System in background.
I have tried to block it with firewall but to no avail. I have tried to perform factory reset, I have tried to reflash ROM from TWRP. But in all cases issue immediately started again. In the end I was able to reduce consumption by restriction on all downloads in background through settings. This way it does not download data on cellular networks, but it still drains all Wi-Fis I connect to. It also means that I cannot use most functionalities I was used to like autosynchronization of gmail, apps like viber does not work and many other small obstructions.
Does anyone have any idea how to get rid of this?
thank you
