Dell Venue 8 3840 Wireless Charging - Dell Venue

Got one of these for my mother for Christmas, I was under the assumption it was Qi compatible but when I set it on my Nokia wireless charger, nothing? Is the Dell wireless proprietary? What am I doing wrong? Any help appreciated.

Figured out the answer to my own question, Lol. The charging "receiver" or whatever you call it is at the extreme bottom of the device, the good thing is my Motorola charger doesn't have to be flush with the bottom of it for it to work, even through the Dell case I got with it.
I must say, so far, this is a impressive tablet. All the talk of freezing Chrome was cured by just using the stock Android browser instead. Nice little tablet, especially for $125!

[Q]xpal tip?

Anyone know of a product that shares the 12v tip our tablets have. The xpal tip finder did not find the gtablet.
Thanx,
I have the XP8000 and the Viewsonic G Tablet uses the green NB06 tip. It came with the XP8000.

Did u get yours from a wootoff by any chance? (I did and paid next to nothing for it)

Yes... yes I did. I see they retail for $80. I have tips for my Viewsonic G Tablet, Haipad 7" tablet, both phones, and my Dell and ThinkPad laptops. I used up my free two tips completing the set. I have never been without power while I travel.
good deal.
I had a problem with another tablet that (maybe by random chance) started when I was using the battery (yes from Woot) with it. I took a meter and measured the output of the stock adapter (12.2V) and then the battery with and without it being plugged in too the wall (12.5V).
I am an EE and you would _think_ 0.3V would not hurt anything, but since it sounds like a few people have done this I thought I'd ask: Have you been using the battery with the tablet and had no ill effects?

[Q] Why did Dell not use Micro USB?

Are they trying to be like Apple? That's why I bought the Streak, cuz I was sick of Apple's non standard crap.
Just curious, love the Streak but spent 5min looking for the cable so I can charge it. But, I have about 10 micro USB cables already lying around the house.
But seriously, does anyone understand why Dell made this move?
It's probably for the HDMI out, so they wanted a single cable for the docks and whatnot. It's a bit inconvenient but not that bad.
Haven't bought this myself yet, but dealextreme tend to be good to me:
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/usb-da...or-dell-streak-mini-5-black-80cm-length-57481
If the streak had as large an accessory ecosystem as the dock connector it'd be a good thing.
Only problem is that currently only 3 devices are compatable with it and half a dozen accessories exist

Lapdock issue

I just picked up an Atrix lapdock and am trying to get it working with my Razr. When I plug it in, it loads the webtop and shows the screen, but the trackpad and keyboard are unresponsive. After about 5 seconds, the screen will just show the motorola logo and the screen on my phone becomes active again. It seems like the usb portion of the lapdock is not registering because the phone shows nothing if I plug in and unplug the usb from the lapdock (I have the hdmi and usb connectors pulled out of the lapdock for testing purposes). I tried a USB mouse plugged into the lapdock with no response either, though the usb ports on the lapdock are powered up and working as the mouse lights up.
Has anybody had this problem and have any idea how to fix it? Or did I just get a defective lapdock? I have whatever the latest update from vzw is on the phone, not rooted.
did you unscrew and flip the connectors?
I have the connectors completely free from the housing to make sure they're fully seated.
I have only had problems when the connectors are not well seated (before shaving away excess plastic from the housing). So it sounds like you might have a faulty unit.
Also, be sure the phone screen is on and unlocked when you connect it. Sometimes that makes a difference.

sounds like a hardware issue to me also
Well, looks like I'll be out $80 if it's defective, that sucks. I'll play with the connectors a little more, if anybody has a broken lapdock maybe I could mix and match some parts to get it to work...Or if anyone wants one for parts, let me know.
I am in the same boat with an Atrix dock and a Bionic.
Does anyone know if it's possible to just buy the piece that houses the connectors, or even just the USB cable? I'm pretty sure the USB is the issue.
I ordered this dock and it comes with the cables, so you should be able to get them somewhere.

Bionic lapdock issues, even when i have the adapters connected
Hi, just like bobzdar said, i still have the 5 second screen problem and the phone goes into screen saver mode with M logo. Any suggestions?
Very possible it's the phone, when I got my lapdock I found out the HDMI port didn't function right. If you are near a store just do what I did and take the phone and lapdock there and test both with the display models, to see if it's the lapdock or the phone

It's USB problem
I have the same Issue here ... just got my lapdock few days ago ,,, when I connect it to my atrix it only detect the hdmi... I tried to connect my wife's Razr ... and got the same result you've got
Amazingly there are alot of people encounter the same issue ( I thought MOTO devices are the most reliable in the market but THIS change my mind)
Unfortunately I'm not in US (currently in Kuwait) so I would be difficult to find the spare part ... If you find a spare Part please tell me
OTA ICS with webtop 3.0 solved the issue for me. YMMV.
Under display in options make sure u enable hdmi

won't charge when powered off

Streak 5.
Build 15697 (353). Stock 2.2 AT&T
rooted with GingerBreak
My streak 5 won't charge when the device is powered off. It used to, and I loved being able to tough the power button briefly and get the % of charge. I am not knowledgeable enough to customize the device much. It took me a long time just to figure out how to root the thing. It did charge fine for several months after rooting. I've tried a factory re-set.
I did install ADW launcher, launcher 7 and home switcher for froyo and I've played around with some themes. I rarely use them. I would love to have the coolest, newest stuff on my streak 5. But, I can spend hours troubleshooting with no results.
Also...is there/ should there be a format for questions? I see a lot of titles that say "help me please" or some other un-necessary info. It makes researching so time consuming!
Some of the apps I have installed are Titanium Backup pro version, astro, gingerbreak, quickboot, superuser, home switcher for froyo.
I hope I've given you the information you need to help me.
it happens to me thou sometymz just the 3 leds glow, so remove battery for 15 sec and try

Beginning charge: 84%
Variables: 1 Dell issued cable, 1 Dell issued wall adapter. 1 HTC issued wall adapter. 1 Sony Vaio VPCCW21FX laptop (with the worst speaker on a laptop since 1999!)
TESTS:
Streak is on. took back cover off, which causes shut down. removed battery for a minimum of 15 seconds, but less than 1 minute. put battery back in. Streak is NOT on when plugged in charger to wall (outlet is varified as working with HTC EVO DESIGN) for 15 minutes. no noticeable effect (no lights. no response when the power button is touched to see charge status.) Dell cable is plugged into HTC wall adapter with the only Dell cable into a different and varified wall outlet for an additional 15 minutes. No noticeable effect. plugged in charger to laptop for an additional 15 minutes. Again, no noticeable effect. removed streak from laptop, and turned streak on. Battery charge at 83%. plugged in charger to Dell issued wall adapter and Dell issed cable. streak battery symbol immediately showed lightning bolt. Plugged in at 4:22pm. At 4:29pm charge was at 93%. Removed from Dell wall adapter and plugged into HTC wall adapeter. Charge continued.
As previously mentioned I've tried the factory reset.
I beleive my findings illustrate that the Dell issued wall adapter and cable are in working order. I think that this leaves the issue within the device itself: possibly the root apps.
One program I forgot to add earlier was busybox free. Other programs mentioned before: astro, busybox free, gingerbreak, home switcher froyo, launcher 7, quick boot, superuser, titanium backup (only paid version). Of course there are other apps installed, but these don't seem to have the ability to effect the streak much. Those other apps don't require root.
I don't know exactly when the streak stopped accepting a charge when it was off, but it did NOT happen directly after rooting.
On a side note, I'm concerned about updating apps. The risk is the app not working properly, and having to go through the trouble of seeking out the older version that did work. Is it worth the risk? Why update if everything is working properly?
I hope that the members here are able to help me. Deysmacro, I believe you are mistaken.
just check ur streaks charging/usb port is the 15th pin broken??

Please look at the attached photos. I do not think anything is broken. But, I really don't see the pins that you speak of. It doesn't look like the pins of an old printer connection.
Thank you for this ongoing support.
no u got it wrong the one inside the streaks port (straight golden color pins) u hav taken d pic sideways btw count dem all are der 15 pins, or d pin (from left, first pin) is it broken or bend ?? chek d image
just use another charger, its work for me. i have 3-4 different charger from my other phone like samsung, iphone, and blackberry, just connect the dell usb cable to the other charger. sorry for my english.

Madhatter,
I have taken another 2 pictures. Both are the same area of the Streak 5. This is the port where the charger plugs in. In the previous picture it looked slightly different because of the otterbox.
Please look carefully: the area looks different than yours. I do not notice any damage.
I have taken the battery out, waited 15 seconds, replaced battery but left the cover off, and plugged in the charger. There was no effect. I removed the cord from the wall adapter and plugged it into the laptop. Again, no effect.
If I could find someone in this area that has a Dell Streak I'd ask to borrow their cord. If there is a "pin" broken in the dell streak 5, I can't see it. But, its very hard to see inside there.
Thank you for your continued help.

By "charger" do you mean wall adapter power supply? I have plugged the cord into my laptop, my HTC wall adapter power supply and my dell power supply.

won't charge Software?
Does anyone think its possible that this is a software issue?
If it is a hardware issue, there must be something not making connections, like MadHatter has said. So, this 15th "pin" that is different in my streak 5 by-passes the other mechanisms and turns on the streak5 at a basic level so that only basic functions work? interesting....
maybe deysmacro was right in the first place. Maybe it is a hardware issue. I hope its the cable and not inside the dell streak.
okay, try this, cut a scotch tape and put it on either side of ur connector starting from inside folding outside as in d pic, if pins r getting grounded by touching d connector so dis way it will b avoided, if dis too wnt work mayb d hardware/cable issue...be more carefull while inserting the pin into streaks port...

OK. Thank you again for your continued support. I tried the tape. Because I don't have the pins to puncture the tape, and because it slides into a slot almost like a video card, I could not get the cable to insert into the device. (That sounds confusing. I hope you understand.)
I am on the hunt for a cable to borrow. The problem is I'm in the USA. No one has a Dell Streak 5. AT&T doesn't keep any Dell Streak 5. BestBuy doesn't keep any Dell Streak5. I'll go during the day and ask the managers. If I appear to be a recurring customer they may call their distributors.
If it is the cord, I'll gladly buy a new one! If its the device I'll make due with it until I upgrade. I love my Dell Streak5.
It is so so cool!
Enjoy your day my technology guru friends.

Wireless charging questions

Ok, so I'm completely noobish on this topic. From what I've read, I THINK the DNA needs to charge using the Qi standard.
My main question comes down to this - I have the DNA and a Nexus 7. The Nexus I'm sure needs a special case to be compatible (right?). Is there a mat that could be used to charge both simultaneously? The Verizon website only shows me the Nokia DT-900 which only looks big enough for the phone, and probably not the Nexus even by itself.
Is there an idiot's guide to wireless charging I could read? Or maybe someone who has both devices and already solved this problem? Thanks and sorry if I rambled.
Edit: After a little more searching, it appears the Nexus 7 can't be wirelessly charged without a hardware mod. This thread should probably be closed.
I got the DNA on Friday and the Nokia DT-900. It works flawlessly with the phone.
