Firewater is discontinued. I was thinking of trying sunshine, but I don't want to pay 25$ to root my phone. What are the options now?

Pay the 25 bucks or JTag for a couple hundred bucks.
Easy choice plus you're supporting a great development team.
If anyone uploaded there download of firewater would it still not work?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Free mobile app
I don't know if anyone still has it, but it was discontinued because the exploit was patched by HTC.
What is your firmware version just in case someone does have it?
I have the .exe to downgrade it to the right software, but I read that since the project was discontinued the servers are kaput

No. It will not. It relied on a server side pc during the exploit. That has been shut down specifically because of people who 1) failed to comprehend that it NEVER worked on every phone and 2) people who *****ed about the $25 for sunshine.
That said, if you want s-off and everything you can do once s-off pay the $25 and support the team who makes it possible. No other team has made a software s-off possible.

$25 will buy you three full meals at McDonalds. What would you rather have: 1) fleeting gastral satisfaction that will result in a few extra pounds on your body and a phone that remains to be unrooted and unlocked, or 2) an unlocked and rooted phone, no extra pounds of fat, and continued support for the people who make unlocked bootloaders possible on this phone and possibly a phone you buy in the future.
Do you know how many phones they bricked and how much time they spent to find these exploits?

I think what they did is great and they totally deserve all the money, vyt I'm kind to poor to afford that

Then you need to start saving. There's no free root method we're trying to hide from you.

If you guys simply cannot wait to S-OFF your device by a software method, apparently JTAG has a method that can break the bootloader protection. Mobile Tech Videos is the only place I've seen that offers this service for the Droid DNA: http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/htc-droid-dna-dlx-jtag-s-off-modification-service/

Of course this is more expensive, but to some it might be worth it.

By the time you'd get your phone back in the mail the software method will likely be out.

So unfortunately I didn't know that the DNA had lost its capability of being rooted unto after I Sold my old phone. Should I return my phone and get one tat can be easily rooted or should I stay steady in hopes of a new root method, well s-off. Or if I can should I try to put in a insurance claim and get a DNA that maybe hasn't had an ota update?

Good luck with insurance. Got 2 - new in box not referb - DNAs after much *****ing n threatening to bounce within my 2 weeks. And one from Amazon. No luck. The kernel source will be out eventually. Trust me this will be rooted n s-off. Its time at this point. Our devs rock. Without the source, cracking this is like figuring out what makes potato chips when all you have to go on is a finished product. Sometimes u get lucky

Insurance will send a phone with ota installed. I have also gotten 2. Don't bother with that.

Why not just stage a slip and fall accident at Wal-Mart, file lawsuit for several millions dollars, profit, and buy a new phone (or several).

Or if you're really desperate, just JTAG it. Either yourself (not recommended unless you REALLY know what you're doing) or send it off.

I believe he meant you could buy the riff and do it yourself not recommended if you don't know what you're doing. Not that you can do it virtually.

Lets get this done!
With S-off we can get rid of Tampered, in the bootloader, and much more.
Rules for the bounty:
Only pledge if you plan on paying
Only pledge unconditionally, that means no "I will pay if we get S-OFF by thursday of next week" kind of pledges.
S-OFF method should be easily repeatable by the average user, and not require a soldering iron or a degree in engineering to complete
Lets GO!
Gunnyman $20
Homeslice976 $10
Dottcent $20
grukko $20
gridlock489 $15
shook187 $10
wiesman2613 $10
agentdr8 $10
marcismo55 $20
youwonder $15
I'm in for $10
please delete this post.
Gunny, put me on the list for $20 more.....
ignore...
$20 here
Count me in for $15! :highfive:

I don't see a problem with a bounty..
It may motivate a developer to put forth the extra effort and get it done.
Developers on XDA generally don't get much in donations and they do have to put up with a TON of self-entitled users..
I don't care about s-off because I generally don't even bother to root my phones anymore but I can see where users may really want this and offering up a small amount is just their way of saying thanks to the developer.

This is one of the hottest device out there. Bountys are usually for unsupported devices that developers need that extra motivation to start working on them. Getting S-off on this beast will be an accomplishment that gets a certain developer all the press from XDA and Techy web sites that he needs.
With that said I pledge $10

I thought about that. I've been told the security is different between this phone and the international. Beaups will have his phone soon and I expect he will chime in with more info once he does.

Put me down for $10 gunny.
here is a site just put up by LG for their device loaner program. you basically sign up for it, say which phone you want and they send it to you. the catch is you only get to keep it for 30 days and you have to pay for the shipping to send it back. but it's a great way for some other dev's to jump into our side of the xda community. i wonder if dev's would be able to get an extension if they needed it past the 30 days.

You can still unroot it.... lol...

They want apps created specifically for the G2, meaning you won't be finding them on the Play Store anytime soon with this offer so I'm guessing they want apps that take advantage of the hardware in the G2 by design - this isn't just a loaner phone to test any Android apps at all...
You will be required to pay $600 which will be returned when you return the device. I cant see many people doing this just to use the device for 30 days. I hope it increased development but I doubt it will.
Seriously. Maybe some monetary compensation could light some devs fire for this thing. Me personally, I'd be willing to put up 50 for root of 4.4+ builds, 100 for boot loader unlock. Anyone else?

I think the best bet would be to get a hold of a Verizon Note 2 donor and send it off to Geohot (George Hotz). He could get it unlocked I'm sure. He does it for fame and the challenge, not money.
