Can we confirm that the Atrix does not have HSUPA? Is it possible to enable this feature. I think this is a deal-breaker for most people especially with the laptop dock and extra fees associated with it.
I would start by looking at the build.prop file.
It might be as easy as that.
its already confirmed that it doesnt. Read the reviews for proof.
I can absolutely confirm that the Inspire has it disabled and that a different ROM enables it. ATT needs to be raked over the coals for this. I think I'm bout done with ATT branded phones..
That should be reason enough for a lot of people not to purchase it. Without a European version of the Atrix how will US AT&T customers overcome this limitation?
Has AT&Fail replied to this as to why they're doing this? It _might_ be their way of controlling the amount of users on their network, ya know? This would 'right size' the network load by moving folks to other carriers ... a possibly brilliant move on their part, and very transparent

A company doesn't want churn. Churn is bad for the bottom line.
Nobody has confirmed that it's off, except one person who didn't really know what the hell they were talking about.
We'll have plenty of data on Monday.

It won't be a problem as long as we can break into the files on it. =)
People using the Inspire 4G have already fixed there data problems by rooting it I believe.

Can't we do this by rooting and then root exployer..? This is really gonna suck if we can't get HSUPA. I know MOTO locks down their stuff but really, I hope we can over come this.
Apparently the fix to this whole issue is to not use the stock wap profile. The stock WAP profile has data routed though a proxy server that is causing slowdowns. Once the proxy is removed people saw speed increases and uploads past 1.5mbs.
I'm glad that we have people smart enough to figure this out and possibly fix it... but why should the average consumer be subjected to this by AT&T? Most people wouldn't know this while AT&T laughs their asses off limiting their data speeds. This is a huge dealbreaker for me, and this would be too for everyone else if the general population knew about this. AT&T really needs to be called out for this and burned for essentially throttling speeds on all their smartphones besides iPhones while claiming fast speeds... Where can we start this?

How do we go about removing this proxy? Sorry I'm a noon to this stuff.

I would post a link but the stupid forum rules won't let me. Go to Howard forums AT&T general discussion and look for a HSPA+ thred. Go to page 55 and you will find some screenshots
I hope to try this out tomorrow.

Thanks for the link
The first screenshot shows the apn list with ATT provided apn locked..cannot edit it. The next 2 show the apn settings. The ATT apn allows full upload and download speeds along with access to the wifi hotspot. Should be able to fix the speed issue without even rooting it

and this has been proven to fix the hsupa speeds? If so, how could it be this simple?!
Over in the Dev Discussion there is a possible solution based off some testing I had Fixter do as well as what I discovered on HoFo about someone who got HSUPA working on their Inspire without rooting or changing the Rom.

Check it out, try it see if it works. But don't post in the Dev channel about how it works, post here. I'll update that post if we have more people stating success. I'm also heading over to my local store in a bit to test it with an Inspire.
I live in the Tampa Bay area which is generally an old Alltel stomping ground, and when I got my TB, I had to have VZ push the hybrid PRL (13006) to my phone to get any decent signal. I rooted last night (successfully, thanks to your guides and posts) only to find that my PRL had been reset to 15027. Is there any way for me to restore this setting, or am I going to have to call VZ tech support and get them to pull the hybrid PRL for my phone again? And ... more importantly, will I have to do this every time I flash a new ROM, or is there a way for me to backup/restore this information? Any help you can give me will be much appreciated.

These phones don't use PRLs in the classic sense. They receive the roaming list on the fly so whatever PRL it says you have should be the one you need. What's more, the method used by LTE isn't at all like cdma. I've been all over hell and back with mine. It kinda sucks going to a new area because it can take up to an hour for it to find signal and data service sometimes. Took mine most of an hour to find data when I got the thing at the store. I'm also not sure a ROM would change the PRL since that's radio stuff. Most likely if it changed, the phone did it by itself.
If you can get your hands on the prl file these links should help out. I was able to get a cricket droid inc back onto verizon by using these prl files.

from what i've read 15027 is actually
a hybrid prl as well.
I'm in AZ w/ a 15011 prl
Not sure if in the right area so forgive me if it is.
Here's the situation. Me and my Mon have the same phone (Evo 3d) and on same family plan. Mine has meantime 4.5 and 4ext recovery with s-off. Her's is completely stock. We r at out family reunion, doesn't matter who ur provider is at the park phone service sucks. When inside I was still able to use my phone for calls and txt but internet was very slow. My mom's phone was like in a dead zone, no calls, no txt, no nothing. She would have to walk out on the balcony to use her phone at all. Roaming settings r the same for both phones. How is it possible mine still worked for the most part, and her's not nearly as well?
Also like to add even when we was outside or in, I always showed more bars than her's.
My phone is rooted, my wife's is stock. Hers gets better service than mine. Same prl too.

i recently played with my prls and tested a few and its in fact very different in terms of reception, using the "Opensignals" app i can see the location of the tower im connected to which changes based on what prl im using.
the current 21090 prl is really bad.. so if reception is your deal. look into that. its worth the time. try it first with your phone see how it goes.

a lot of roms change the way the phone communicates to sprint's servers to get a better signal. you can manually change this your self. to change the internet speed, you can see a 20-30% increase but you have to be rooted.
First, install MSL Reader app from the Market (yes, it’s free) and find the MSL of your HTC Evo 3D.
Then call ##3282#.
Choose “Edit Mode”.
Enter the MSL code you got earlier for password.
Then goto Advanced->RTSP/HTTP Setting.
Then set RTSP proxy IP to 0.0.0.0.
and set RTSP proxy port to 0.
and set HTTP proxy IP to 0.0.0.0.
and set HTTP proxy IP to 0.0.0.0.
Choose back button, menu button, and hit “Commit Modifications”.
This should get your Evo 3D rebooted.
Now the signal strength should be better and connect in more places than before as well.

I used the app. Found we do have different prls. I thought we was all the same. Nice app to prove me wrong.

the PRL can be found under settings> about phone> software information > more > at the bottom u see PRL, 21090 if in fact uve updated recently... i thought that its speed wasnt very good and calls sucked no matter what.
I tried the msl reader. Says it can't read my radio to contract dev. My prl is 21086. I did find a nice post bout how to get it with cdma toolkit. As soon as I find out If I can post links from another site ill post the link. Gonna try it as soon as I can. Ill be back with results.
Did you try the reader more than once? I used it today (one of these times I'll write it down) and had to run it a few times before it read it right.
Reverted back to 21089 as I was bouncing in and out of roam mode at work with the new one today.
I tried msl reader like a thousand times. First it says my serial number doesn't appear to be an HTC device, I choose continue anyway. Then it fails. Haven't been home so can't use my cdma toolkit. I will be tonight so ill let u know how it goes.
I found the post on xda, another Guy on another site is taking credit for an xda members post. The post from xda is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1140870.
Credit goes to yoboii23 and techwerkz.
Ok, cmda toolkit worked. I've zeroed out what the post said to do. Connection and speed has been much faster and better connections. In some areas it's much more noticeable than others. Thanks for all ur help. Everyone at xda have been and r amazing. It sux apple is trying their best to take it all away. If it does come to the end of android, I really see rise of the Linux phones. One last time thank u all for being spectacular.
Edit- I wanted to mention HTC changed the way it stores the msl number. Cdma workshop needs to be a paid version to read msl number. The only reason I could get mine was knowing someone who has the full version. It has something to do with the upgraded radios. Im going to try and downgrade to see if it can be done that way.
Evening all,
Bit of a odd request here, but I figured I'd ask and see what I could come up with. I'm required to write a paper on 4G versus 3G speeds, prices, etc, etc...however I have a problem. I don't actually have a 4G phone, and thus can not run the tests myself. If people would be interested in helping a guy out, I would appreciate the following statistics.
1. Speedtest Screenshots 3G/4G
2. Timed downloads for a identical APK from the PlayStore on both 3G and 4G. (I don't care which just so long as it is download both times and uninstall between the to obviously.
3. A timed download for a external file outside of the play store on both 4G and 3G.
Thanks will be handed out for results, and it would be much appreciated!

So here goes...
I'm on travel for the holidays, and we arrive in a backwoods Vermont town, then suddenly I lose cell signal, no biggie, this is usually expected in Vermont, but since we bring along our Wilson 45dbm cell booster, I usually regain my signal to full bars as soon as we turn it on (no matter where we are). I just thought that maybe the tower in the area was down from the snow we just got.
I thought nothing of it, until when we arrived at out destination and then I notice my phone still had no signal. At my suggestion a few years ago, I convinced the family we visited to invest in a Wilson home booster, which my wife currently has no problem picking up a signal from.
So this got me thinking, well maybe my PRL file was outdated/updated and the cell tower is not in my list. So I notice my wife has version 60690, and I had version 21090. Wow this must be really really old I thought, so I followed instructions using QPST and upgraded mine to the same version as my wife's. Still nothing, no signal what-so-ever.
Then I noticed that Sprint is upgrading their network and this meant that the newest version numbers were in the range of what I had on my phone originally, and now I think someone said 21092 is the absolute latest for the Evo 3D. So with this said, maybe I need to update my PRL to 21092, problem is I can't without a signal, and so far no one has posted it on any site yet. Anyone have the latest PRL file that I could try?
Then today I got to thinking that maybe the problem started at the car ride with the booster. Did my booster output too much power that it fried my radio? The car booster uses a stick-on antenna, not the direct to phone connector cable, so I don't see how it could have over saturated the radio, but now I am second guessing that notion. Or maybe, could my phone have a different radio than my wife's phone? I'm sure my evo3d was working the last time I was here in Vermont, but I'm not 100% certain it was the same phone.
So with this said, how can someone verify that the radio is shot? I've tried entering field trial mode using ##33284# to see if there is even a signal dbm level being reported, which it seems to see something because it does fluctuate.
Attached are some photos. Thanks!
For prls on the 3d I run the sprint corporate prls. I believe the latest we have on xda is 12126. The benefit of these is that when roaming it gives full 3g on the Verizon network as opposed to your 21xxx prl that only gives 1x. These prls I believe are distributed to customers in corporate accounts with sprint. I've been running 12124 with no problem s, I just haven't updated yet. I'm pretty sure there's a thread in the general section on this. I'm on tapatalk or I'd link you. Anyways, I doubt you fried anything... I've loaded the prl you did before and it didn't pull any signal for me either on my 3d... I have no clue what the difference is though.

I have no idea what your problem is but just wanted to say that I love the title of your thread. Sounds like a country and western song to me.
ramjet73
I forgot to add that this is a US Cellular tower that shows up as roaming on the sprint network. It's my understanding that prl files list roaming towers only, so it would seem to imply that something is wrong with the prl file. But then why does my wife's phone work when mine doesn't using the same prl. Anyhow, maybe I will try a corporate prl for giggles, just to see if it still even works. Thanks for the suggestion, I will try it soon and let you know!
Oh and thanks for the country song title idea, I should have had more fun with that one!

Thanks p3tr0s, I think I used the corporate PRL you suggested and after QPST rebooted the phone, I still had no signal. But somewhere in between going into my ICS >Settings>Mobile networks and toggling all the Domestic/Roaming/Guards and setting them back (even though this still did not give me signal), then going into >Settings>Usage and toggling Mobile Network suddenly my phone finally connect to the cell tower. Immediately after a good connection, I did a PRL update (in >Settings>System updates), and now it is using the latest 21092 PRL and it is still working just fine, so now I'm totally confused. I'm thinking that the issue was resolved somehow with the toggles. Even though I had tried toggling the Usage mobile setting and a couple of the data options on previous PRL's, I hadn't tried toggling all of them in the Mobile networks area as I did this time. But, then again, this is the first time I have gotten a signal, so maybe the combination of the corporate PRL worked is some weird way. Thanks!
