I own a Samsung Galaxy S4 Active GT-I9295 (international version) and I recently unrooted my device so I can update my OS. I try to update my OS as I'm currently running 4.2.2 but when I check for updates it notifies me saying "Your device has been modified. Software updates are not available" and looking at the status of my phone, it says its "custom".
I want to be able to fix this and update to KitKat but I don't know where to start or what firware to choose. When searching the database on SamMobile, I came across this ( sammobile.com/firmwares/download/34604/I9295XXUCNH2_I9295BTUCNH1_BTU.zip/ ) but its the UK version (I live in the USA). Does it matter what country I select for the firmware? Do I need to match the PDA, CSC, or MODEM codes to my existing phone/firmware of that from the link? Will this brick my device or am I clear to apply this using Odin? Sorry for probably the very basic questions but Im very new to these kind of things.

Hi guys,
I have a question, maybe is stupid, but I have searched on the net and I could not find anything to clarify my question.
My Android version is I9100XWKI4 / I9100XXKI1 / I9100DBTKH1. So a ROM (2.3.4) from Germany.
When I try to update the ROM to 2.3.6 via Kies I get always the message "No update available".
Do you have any ideea why Kies doesn't find the newest version for my phone?
thanks
Try Check Fus. Google it for info.

You have the newest version for your phone note your phone or the codes on the phone do not match any on KIES server due to flashing .
Its your phone provider that updates the firmware to KIES as and if they want and some are well behind the later releases and unlikely to update further until soon expected release of ICS ..

Many months ago I rooted my Galaxy, mostly for something to do, but I stupidly didn't take down any details on what baseband or kernel the phone was running initially. When the leaked versions of ICS came out I upgraded to them, hopping to the latest one as it came out.
Now that the official T-Mobile release is out I decided that it was time to change to it, to make my phone "legit" again, however this doesn't seem to be the case as in Kies I get the tell tale "Your device does not support software upgrading via Kies".
In the "About Phone" I have...
Baseband Version - I9100BVLPB
Kernel Version - 3.0.15-I9100BVLPB-CL310231 [email protected] #3
Through *#1234# I have...
PDA : I9100BVLPB
CSC : I9100TMULPC
Phone:I9100BVLPB
Is there any way for me to find out what firmware should be on my phone? I've got a sneaking suspicion that my original firmware etc may have been unbranded rather than T-Mobile. I don't remember having any "Web & walk" icon or any T-Mobile logos etc.
If I just install the stock unbranded ICS firmware via Odin does that automatically change the baseband & kernel at the same time?
Thanks for any info
Try CheckFUS.
Thanks, I gave that app a go but it wouldn't update the phone types for some reason, it would just hang while updating.
I've managed to sort it out though, turns out that I was given an unbranded phone. The stock unbranded ICS firmware allows connection with Kies. The one downfall is that it would keep crashing after updating, I had to do a format to get it to work properly.

I9100BOKE3_I9100BOKD1_I9100TMUKE3.TAR this is the rom that my T-Mobile UK came with.
You can find that ROM and newer versions * HERE *
I have a Bell Samsung SGS II GT-I9100M that I sim unlocked. (it's not rooted but permanently sim unlocked)
When I first got this phone I tried to install an update through Kies and it didn't work. Anyways I had this phone on the side ever since then and I barely use it (yea sad I know).
Currently the phone is running Android 2.3.3, Baseband I9100MUGKG2, Build number GINGERBREAD.UGKG2 and under KIES it says I have the the latest firmware version which is PDA:KG2 / PHONE:KG2 / CSC:KG2 (BMC)
Anyways I am sure there is a new update but no matter what I do I can't install it.
I tried right-clicking on my device in KIES and the Firmware upgrade option is greyed out
I tried under tools and pressing on Firmware upgrade and initialization and it says
'GT-I9100M' does not support initializing.
What do I do? I would like to update to the latest firmware. I am pretty good with android although I am not familiar with Samsung Devices.
Please help, thank you.
try getting a stock rom for your region through fusdownloader
then reboot into download mode, start odin 1.85 add the downloaded rom to pda (this step actually is explained a lot in this forum so look it up if you are not entirely sure what to do ;P )
then flash the new firmware, should work just fine
cheers

The Bell ICS update isn't rolling out until tomorrow, according to MobileSyrup... here's a copy of the leaked bell memo from their site..
Since you have an unlocked sim device which belongs to other network service provider so kies will not update it as you have some other sim..so the best method is choose the stock rom as per you region from www.sammobile.com and then flash it through odin.

He has the proper bell firmware. The actual software update isn't being released until tomorrow, hence the reason Kies can't find the update.
Hi Guys,
I'm a little bit confused i cannot get any updates via Kies or using OTA , i bought my SGS II from Kuwait and currently i'm in Egypt , i changed the CSC to Egypt once to solve this problem but it's the same my firmware info is I9100JPKJ2/I9100JPKJ1/I9100XXKI4/I9100JPKJ2 (xxx)
Any advice?
Thanks
I am not sure if Android 4.x is already out for the "M" version.
I have read some related threads for " Your Device does not support software updating via kies"
I am getting this issue.
I recently got a branded phone from orange after having a unbranded phones4u (the unbranded one was smashed and Orange replaced it with orange care) my concern was they the branded phone would be full of bloatware etc etc, so i came to XDA earlier in the week and I got some advice about Odin & flashing the attached stock ROM (I9300XXBLG_i9300XABLG8_I9300xxLH1_home.tar.md5) this seemed to go through very smoothly after following the XDA guide.
the S3 is now showing up as I9300XXLH1 which was the same as my Unbranded phone , however now Kies is being a bit of a bell-end and bring up the following message on the connection screen "Your Device does not support software updating via kies". after reading some related threads it would seem that the general consensus is that Kies is in fact a bit of a liability and its best to update via Odin.
This I don't mind doing, but as a bit of Noob , I'm a little confused over where to get a guide on which firmware in the UK will work. I'm not wanting to go for any the custom ROMs (Yet, I want to get used to flashing stock ROM's first) is there a website which gives you update on new stock firmware (for I9300 & I9100)that can be flashed (ie taking the place of Kies , so to speak.
Also I noticed that the Kies Back-up program doesn't work , it doesn't seem to work with any phone, I've tried reinstalling etc etc but it still doesn't work, I've tried Mobile Go which is okay but doesn't seem to backup user settings etc etc. I've heard of titanium but I don't want to Root at the moment is there any alternative?
has anyone got a link for relevant Stock firmware for Jellybean for I9300 UK & I9100
Thanks in advance

Why would they JB has not been released for the UK .
JB is Poland only as per thread in General section.
You have changed the firmware and phone now presents wrong codes to KIES .

Thanks
Thanks for the quick response,
I had assumed that changing the firmware would perhaps invalidate the connection to kies updates , my question was for someone in the know to point me in the right direction for ROM catalogue (of sorts) as being new to to this I'm apprehensive about putting the incorrect firmware on to the phone/s.
JB issue - noted.
Thanks
Roms
CHECKFUS is best download and flash via Odin genuine Samsung server firmware .
Or XDA General thread stock roms.
Or Sammobile.com
Or

Hi guys, over the past couple of weeks I've been desperately trying to update my firmware which has been stuck on Android 4.2.2 for I don't know how long. Everytime I try to update the software using the software update on the phone it tells me that the latest updates have already been installed.. Also when I try to use Kies on my computer it's the same story.
I have looked for updates through the official samsung website but there appears to be no newer firmware versions for my specific model..it's as if they stopped making updates for it.. I think my only alternative is to root the phone. Anyone got any ideas ?
My phone details are as follows:
AP: I9505XXUDMH6
CP: I9505XXUAMDC
CSC: I950502IDMH2
