[Q] Sub $150 tablet with Lollipop / Custom ROM support - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been looking at cheap Chinese tablets, such as Chuwi VX8: http://www.geekbuying.com/item/CHUW...-1-3GHz-Android-4-4-1G-8G---White-329270.html
There seems to be a huge amount of affordable tablets out there with quad core cores such as MTK8127.
Unfortunately I can't find a tablet along these lines which has a Lollipop update available or even unofficial CM12 build.
Can someone point me in the direction of such a tablet?
I've read on CM blog that Mediatek devices are very difficult to port CM12 for, so maybe tablet with Allwinner core?

Qware 10 inch Pro3

Hi everyone, I am British but now live in The Netherlands, and I have just bought a budget tablet from Qware called the Pro3 (10 inch version).
It has an A10 Cortex A8 processor (1.2GHz) and 512MB DDR3 ram, and runs Android 2.3.4.
I understand that it is similar/the same as the Ployer MOMO15.
Can anyone tell me if there are any development plans for this tablet, such as any custom GB roms or ICS roms? Thanks very much!
Topic on Dutch forum, though most ICS dev is for the 7". There is a (Ployer) 7" ICS rom out, but I'm not sure about the 10". Maybe check the Pandawill forum as well.

[Q] Flashing generic china phones

Hi there,
I currently own an HTC Desire Bravo and was thinking of upgrading to a china phone with a MTK6577 CPU. I haven't made up my mind which model in particular to purchase yet as I would like it to have some level of rom support in XDA. A while ago, I had bought a china tablet (P10AN01, also going by brand names: Advent Vega, Viewpad 10s) and chose this model *because* it had it's own section in the XDA forums. These china stuff is really amazing as if you choose carefully may land you a device rivaling it's more expensive branded phones at a fraction of the price.
I don't expect there will be a section for every variant of china phone as even searching for MTK6577 CPU based phones returns a myriad of phones with different specs.
I would basically like to know if it is possible to use ROMs designed from other popular (and supported on XDA) phones on a made in china phone... If so, how would i know which would work?
am I correct in assuming that a ROM for a supported phone with similar specs would likely work? for example, an HTC phone with MTK6577 CPU 1GB ram and 4GB rom would work on a china phone with MTK6577 CPU and 1GB ram and 4GB rom?
Many thanks in advance for your support

ZTE S7Q (Chinese Tablet)

Hi Everyone,
Not sure if this is the right place (did not find a specific ZTE tablet forum - but i guess all the chinese tablets are pretty much the same).
I recently got this device, It's pretty nice, not strong or anything (like the nexus 7 i initially wanted) but it was given to me for free.
My only problem with the device is the operating system version, android 4.2, I have also nexus 4 device and going back to 4.2 feels a bit how to say, laggy, old fashioned.
Can someone guide me please / link and also explain if it's possible somehow to get this tablet to android 4.4 or even 4.3.
Thanks you very much,
Anyone knows maybe? even a general answer not only to the zte tablet, regarding the chinese tablets and firmwares.

I am hacking this same tablet right now. ZTE is just a clone brand. Really, it is a Rockchip rk3188 processor, and some GPU. I hope this helps you find the right ROM. The bootloader is already unlocked, so that's not going to be a problem. Download this to identify your HW further:

Best of luck!

Any updates on 5.1?

I keep scouring the web to see when the Z4 tab will get the update but it is scarily quiet! Anyone have any inside info as to what's happening?
Cheers
I too have been searching on a daily basis. I don't like doing this, but the performance of the Z4 is good, but then its still not miles away from the Z3 compact, and there should be a huge difference looking at the specs.
I feel that the Z4 is not optimised for the 64 bit octa core processor and perhaps we might see a performance jump in Android 5.1.1?
I'm also wondering why the Z4 Tablet has not the update to 5.1 yet.
On the other side there is an Android M developer preview available for nearly every xperia device except for the Z4T?
I am really a bit disappointed - you buy a brand new (and expensive) device and you don't get updates. But the "old" devices get everything...
I'm presuming Sony is having some challenges with the Snapdragon 810 and optimisation of the octal core processor. That's all it can be really.

Still no update from Sony.
I've got the Samsung Z3 Tablet Compact and the Z4 Tablet, and the Z3TC is flying along with Android 5.1.1, at times outpacing the Z4 for the same task, which makes me want to see the Z4 Android 5.1.1 update sooner than later. Sony are pushing this update out to Z3 and Z2 owners and nothing for the Z4.
Does anyone have any insight into whats going on?
No insight but I just downloaded the AOSP 5.1 binaries from SONY developer world. The AOSP sources are on GitHub.
Next week I try to build the 5.1 ROM.
According to the latest entry in PTCRB, seems that android 5.1.1 is on its way...

I'm not familiar with that site. It lists the model number as TM-0061-BV; How do we know that is the Sony Z4 tablet?

It is one of the Z3+/Z4 phones.
This is a regulatory site ...
28.0.A... software versions are for the xperias with Qualcom 810 processors from SONY.
It only means there is newer ROM for the phone. The software sans specific drivers for the phone part should be identical to the Z4 Tablets (Wifi or LTE).
So you can see it like this:
Newer ROMs for phone(s) usually means updates for the tablets too.

Good to see progress, but then how long does the Firmware rollout start after this stage? If anyone knows.
I actually ran a 5.11 version here (from AOSP sources).
But no touch functionality -> useless.
Should be fixed according to a SONY guy but trying (and reverting) takes 5+ hours including 2 of my personal time.

Asus 3150I-C & Remix

So it seems from this link on cnx-software that there is a specific board with a custom Remix OS x86 build. - These boards are now readily available and I am considering picking one up. Its not the fastest out there, but a 2ghz quadcore braswell should be pretty decent for general computing.
Does anyone know where this custom version of remix os lives? I searched Jides website and came up blank.
