Best free wifi calling app? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3

I heard about groove. Is that the best app for that? Going on a cruise but I saw some of the ports have free wifi. I was going to try to call home like that.

I'm lost does your phone not have WiFi calling? Note 3 has WiFi calling you don't need a app.

[Q] WiFi Hotspot not working mt4g?

My wifi hotspot is not working on my mt4g. I am able to tether to my labtop but not able to use the wifi hotspot app. It connects with my laptop but has no internet connection. Does anyone have an answer to this or do I have a phone that needs to be replaced. T-Mobile Customer Care also couldnt help me get it to work.
You have to add the $15 wifi tethering feature... It was free until they fixed things, now it's a feature you must pay for

Shouldn't the wired tethering be a charged feature as well? I thought the tethering fee was for wired, wifi or otherwise?
It is.... tmo Polly hasn't got all their bugs worked out yet...

both wireless and wired are working for me.
Working here on wireless- is was wondering if we were grandfathered in for free if we started our service before last Sunday. I'm in the foothills so I only get edge, but I justed tested it- D-.9M U-.7M. Pretty sad since most people that are away from the downtown area use Wild Blue- you pay them $70+ a month for that speed. When did you sign up for your service with T-Mo?
There are threads on this all over. It does not look like you will be charged for using it. So far, they are trying to push everyone over to their $30/month 4G plan. It is $15 more then their limited plan.
They have also posted warnings about overuse of data services, and one poster had his speed reduced to EDGE for a day after getting a specific warning.
it remains to be seen if they will do anything down the road to somehow block this activity.

[Q]Barnacle Wifi Tether

I know that at&t hate data hogs and etc. However, I'm curious will at&t be able to detect if you use barnacle wifi on the Galaxy note? I search the thread but couldn't find any thread asking about barnacle and the att galaxy note. I'm curious cause when I went into the play store to download it. It said this app isn't supported by this carrier and would not let me download it. I had to download it on an outside source then install it manually. It works fine now to tether to my asus tablet but will at&t see it and change my plan? I'm currently on the 3gb data plan.
I also have the same exact question... I really think they (AT&T) will not be able to know if we are sharing internet via ad-hoc...
There had been reports of the messages being sent to Unlimited Users for streaming Pandora over BT to car radios as tethering. Who knows, give it a shot and see what happens. Worst case, it's a warning text.

If its a 3rd party app I dont think they can track it. It will just show data transfers. If youre on a tiered data plan, they dont care. Any overages will be added to your bill. They mainly watch users with unlimited data.
-Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke
Well, I have been streaming pandora over BT on my car (unlimited data plan) since ages every single day... No issues... And I have been using Barnacle via adhoc this days... No issue yet...

So I can go ahead and get free tethering with this app without even rooting?
UPDATE: Nevermind went and looked in the app store and it says rooting required!!

[Q] Wi-fi is Good thread?

I've read about people having Wi-Fi issues in all 4 carrier's Forums on the Note 3 (as well as International), Mostly to do with message saying your connection is unstable and then switches to 4G,etc; or if after unchecking auto network switch, simply having their wifi connection slow to a crawl.
MY QUESTION is, how many people out there with Note 3's, that are using Wi-Fi are NOT getting any messages or have noticed any issue's? I might add, have also used your phone with a public wifi network that is maybe not as strong as your home network.
I'm trying to decide if I should switch to another NOTE 3 in my 14 day return period......
Thanks

I have no problems with my WiFi, stays connected and picks up a strong signal, seems to establish network connectivity quicker than I've experienced with previous Galaxy models.
no problems
I have not had any problems at all with my Wi-Fi.AT home nor when I am out it pretty quicky picks up different Wi-Fi spots and able to connect. My phone is rooted, with custom recovey cwm.:good:
I'm on my 2nd galaxy note 3, both have error in notification panel "your Internet connection is unstable". Sprint has confirmed this as a known issue, though reps in store are unaware /or playing dumb. Last week I was told by a Samsung rep this is a known issue and they're working on a fix and I should call back Monday. I gave them a few xtra days and when I called back on Friday, a different rep denied this being a known issue. This is quite frustrating as my 14 day satisfaction guarantee expires and my only choice now is to return it, (probably) or send it to samsung for evaluation and repair. I can't chance sending it to them cause of they can't fix this problem, I'll be stuck with a crippled phone for two years. Shame on sprint and Samsung. Dayum.

[Q] Thinking about upgrading from gs4

I cracked my gs4 screen. Everything works, just need to change it. I have insurance but I can get it fixed for 100 at a local store.
I called tmobile and they are willing to give me the gs5 for 207 down with tax included, and to take 60 off my 260 bill of what's left of the eip.
I know I can sell my gs4 for 200 even with cracked screen to cover it, so it seems like the better deal to just pick up the new gs5.
I do have major concerns though. I rely on wifi calling completely at home. The gs4 is the only phone I have had that was flawless and perfect with it. No delayed voice during calls, and hardly any missed calls. Texts come through quick on wifi and never had an issue.
Sadly I have been reading about such problems on the board with the gs5. So what's the verdict? How is wifi calling with the gs5? Is the delaye messaging solved?
Thanks guys

I have neither of those problems. Wifi calling works fine and no delay in sms or mms.
Since switching from Verizon to tmobile, I rely heavily on wifi.
Works perfect here, only concern is if you plan on flashing roms and kernels to verify they are the t mobile variant and wifi calling works.
So far, infinity rom and allianceROM are the ones, and a few more to come soon. ......
T-Mobile Galaxy S5
I have so many WiFi hot spots around me I hardly use the Tmobile data plan. The phone immediately remembers hot spots I've been in whether it's a grocery store, coffee shop or open routers in my neighborhood.
I love this phone.
And towel root won't trip your knox flag.
WiFi works great! Works well for me in the Seattle area.
Are you Guys experiencing the straight to voicemail phone calls while on wifi calling though?

Free Native Wifi-Hotspot

Is there a way to enable the Galaxy S8's native wifi hotspot in order to avoid paying the carrier's subscription (in my case, Verizon G955V)? I've searched with unsuccessful results. This phone has been out a while now. I'm really shocked that there is nothing...not even root.
I'm with Verizon and the hotspot option is included with the plans. What do you mean about subscription?

I think he means to use the phone as a wireless repeater. as I understand it the WiFi can only do one thing at a time either connect to a router or transmit as a hotspot from the mobile network.
I could be wrong but I doubt the hardware is there to do both at the same time.

Our device is definitely able to function as a repeater. Try it.

I meant using the native hotspot, not the phone as a repeater. On my rooted S4, I am able to enable the hotspot while bypassing the subscription. I have the grandfathered unlimited (and I plan to keep it that way forever). I was looking at upgrading to the S8+ by purchasing it out right. I see that root is still in the works, but not fully functional.
The question: Is there a way to get the native hotspot to work on the S8+ without root or a subscription?
I have an Unlocked S8+ On Cricket/ AT&To without the subscription for mobile hotspot. The hotspot works without needing permission from the company's servers.
How do you hotspot it on your S4 so that the carrier doesn't know if I may ask?
