Are there any roms or kernels for the 4G gtab???
I saw that they finally got root and CWM but havent been able to find anything else.
I'm trying to get a Dev system configured for building Tom's but I'm a noob and can't seem to find any honeycomb specific material, I also have a WiFi Tab 10.1 so I would be able to test both a 4g and wifi rom

Well if I actually knew how to develope anything on these devices I would help but sadly I just know how to use the great things that all the devs make.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
oooooops sorry didnt realize galaxy tab had a Q&A yet
Everybody's work here is terrific! I have a HSPA+ speed question. I've been playing with my phone today, and noticed when I restore my stock backup I get faster speeds. Stock backup I get 5-7meg download, and on unamed, and ICSrewed I get 1-2.5. I checked and the apk settings are the same across the board. Just curious...
are you running the same modem as stock while on one of the custom roms? Different modems work better in different areas.
Btw this belongs in q /a not dev forum.

You think this has anything to do with development? Did you create anything? No so it belongs in Q&A

Moved. In the future, please do not post questions in the Dev forum, or infractions will be handed out. If you are unsure of where to post, please read the rules of the forum.
Modem=baseband can be found in settings-about phone. First thread in dev section has zips to flash. I flashed mine right over existing rom no wipe and it worked but had to reflash after updating as modem was included in rom. BTW modem=radio also.
There seems to be confusion about posting ROMs in General or Developers section. I just reported a post and fjasked that a "stock" ROM be moved from the Dev section to the General section because recently another Stock ROM was in fact moved with the reason that all stock ROMs belong in General. The response to my report was "this is a tough call I ll move it but it could stay in dev". So, that is a very non-committal answer from a mod. In addition, this post, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1184817, is an example of previous guidance on the subject. It clearly states that the Dev section is "only meant for very advanced technical discussion directly related to ROM development activity and the delivery of actual ROMs and ROM components ONLY". I would agree with this guidance. Can we stop differentiating between stock and no-stock ROMs and place ALL ROMs in the Dev section, as stated in the above guidance? Thank you for you work and time. XDA is a great place. I am not whining or complaining. I am merely asking for clarification of this issue so we can move on.
sec
um, your "question" for clarification belongs in the Q section. Not General.
Also, reading the Dev section I think it is pretty clear that it is for rom development only.
Stock roms aren't development...in this case it's a link to a leaked rom. that's it...doesn't belong in development.
So, if the Mod moved it to General it was done correctly.

I been on here for some time across at least 6 phones, and I've never heard of such or seen this done.
It should be like how normal 90% of XDA works!
ROM/Kernels in Dev no matter if its stock or custom! That's it no argument! I had only three phone couple of tablets but whatever forum i went to. THis is the theory they followed! Very simple idk what's big deal about it! IDK why this ppl don't like that!

Your first sentence made me lol. You're right but I thought maybe since it was asking about the General then it could go in the General. Maybe it will be moved. Whatever.
Your second point is the crux of my question. If you read the guidance that I referenced it does not discriminate against stock ROMs. All ROMs are development, as are all kernels and other code. Code can be developed, whether it is stock code or other. Or at least that what I think.
I am anxious to see what the Moderators have to say. They have been very quiet on this issue.

I agree with you, I've been here a while , thru a span of of six devices forums myself also(htc excalibur-tmo dash/htc tilt-kaiser/htc fuze-raphael/the first android OG "htc dream-Tmobile G1"/htc leo/hd2) and now here and all roms have always been in the rom development section, even stock roms that serve as base for custom roms are part of development .
I have been frequenting this site since my PPC6600 and all ROMs official or otherwise have been in a development section of some type. That goes back 5 + years (a very long time in tech years)
I don't know if that means anything to anyone, but us old guys don't like change =P.

Yes that's what i m saying! We get used to it! Plus its the only one place to look for stock or custom! no need to poop all over the place! Common sense!

This forum is for posting Development projects only - ROMs, Kernels, Mods (but not Themes, there's a separate forum for them), not stock ROMs (they belong in General). Anything else will be moved or locked. Do not ask questions here, do not post requests here, they belong in General.

Stock ROMs belong in General according to the rules. Not sure if they are enforced or not though.
I dunno why they changed the rule. Is it specific for AT&T Galaxy Note or in general? Because at least Captivate/i9000/i9100 section have 'stock ROM list' sticky on development section.

Madness.....
Even a mod agrees with us! We need to change this and put back all the stock stuff in dev section!

Stock or not a rom is developed at some point, I've always kept them in the dev section If someone is looking for a stock rom to load, they're going to check the dev area first not general, imo. Not saying you're wrong, just my thought.

But is a "leaked" Rom to be considered stock? Phones don't ship with them....
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
Leaked ROMs are still not something you made thus you aren't developing them, thus why would the go in development? I understand why people would want to put them there, but according to the rules, its not where they belong.
I really can't stand this! IF you really want to get this changed plz comment and let me know! Because i just don't like how this is going!

Lol, my vote would ba a mod (or eager poster) should compile one sticky of all stock and leaked roms into one sticky which can be posted at the top of the development section.

ACTUALLY
ACTUALLY, this post doesn't belong in Q&A...
It belongs in the MAIN GENERAL section... I'm just saying...
LOL
but yeah, the idea is stupid. they should change the rules...
Lol, who the hell cares? Just post it in one of the two and if a mod feels like moving it, let him. Personally I think any rom of any type should all go in one section so they're easy to find... but I'm not gonna cry about it if the mod wants it in general.
So I just got my S4 last week and so I was curious about what kind of ROMs and other mods are available for it. Any recommendations ?
Also, can somone point me in the direction of a good guide on rooting this phone.

A lot of ROMs and mods... Look around.
The root guide is a sticky. Did you read anything before posting this?
And this is the wrong section for your post.

Yes I did read about some of the roms and mods. I was just looking for some recommendations on which ones to try out. And I musta missed the sticky on rooting. Didnt think it was a big deal to just ask.
And sorry, I didnt realize this was the wrong section. Roms are part of development and so I thought it was the right subforum. My bad.

Admin will move it but any questions non rom specific go in general questions... Any way read the sticky before posting as to not get beat up... If you want to test the waters and Have not tried any roms yet id say try bonestock its me7 based and very very stable. . When you get bored you can start flashing the others see what you like. . Good luck
Is it that time for a moderator to post a 4.4 related sticky including all the updated methods and apps ( SELinux enabled twrp for one) I just figured it would reduce a lot of redundant posts. Even though I agree people should read the @#$%ing OP's in every thread... Maybe a sticky would get their attention since OP's apparently aren't? Just a suggestion. Im probably just rambling..

Moved out of Dev into Q&A.
If such a thread does not exist in General or Q&A or Dev and you want to post up a really good collection and keep up with it, then we might look at making it a sticky.

Hell yeah.. I personally wouldn't consider myself qualified to be writing stickies, as I'm no expert at this stuff. But then again I guess all you have to do is read OP’s. The devs do a pretty good job explaining how to install these ROMs safely and properly. I've been installing ROMs no problem since I joined xda. No prior knowledge of coding and/or Linux at all, just a mere power-user of Windows OS. But when I read some of these posts my jaw drops... It makes me feel like an all knowing god of installing ROMs.. Which I'm far from.. Lol. I was inspired to make the initial suggestion of a sticky after reading the 100,000th (sic) post asking which twrp to use for 4.4 KitKat. But it would be in vain as the non researched curiosity of fellow xda posters will continue..

Actually I think a sticky is a great idea.. I just got this device and when trying to decide what ROM to get, most of the OP didn't specify exactly how to install the ROM.
I tried 1 but it didn't work in twrp, I looked it up on Google and found a post about philz CWM. So I ended up going with cm11 nightly, but yeah..so if anyone out there can't figure out how to install the new roms (SElinux based), use philz cwm. (And don't forget fastboot flash boot boot.img if s-on)
I personally think people need to start going all the way with s-off if they are going to flash custom ROMs. The current recommended method is rumrunner I believe.

That will change soon though!! As 4.3 OTA update is coming out soon for us.. Actually... If a sticky was compiled im sure it would be best to wait after the 4.3 update.. As that is obviously the end of the line of updates for the glorious life the Jewel has had since being released..

I wouldn't mind putting something together. I was thinking of something that included both TWRP & CWM recovery options, along with links to all the current KK builds for our device.
The biggest issue I've seen is that users don't read (or don't understand) that you specifically have to use a recovery that is SE-Linux enabled, and that the standard TWRP recovery available from Goo or TWRP's site won't work.
