I just updated to lollipop today and one of the things that hit me the most was the volume output of the speakers. prior to lollipop, the volume is really loud (except for notifications). but now, the volume output of the speaker is really low. It almost starts at halfway up. and halfway down you can barely hear anything. Am I the only one facing this problem or is it a general firmware bug?
another question, If i choose to factory reset, will I be able to automatically restore everything after resetting the phone? I dont want to lose my contacts, music arts and all.. thanks!
i also noticed this after updating to lollipop. i hope someone can answer this question.

I have read other posts on the forum but believe my problem is a bit different and quite weird (to me).
The symptoms are:
- sound through headphones is OK
- sound through the speaker when someone calls me on the phone is OK
- any other sound through the speaker is non-existent (ie ringtones, music, games)
I have tried rebooting, removing the battery, plugging/unplugging the headphones. I have tried the *#0*# code and pressed "speaker" but there's no sample sound heard (except through the headphones).
Does anyone else find it extremely odd that the speaker seems to work fine when someone is talking to me on the phone but nothing else? I'm guessing this means the problem is some kind of software or firmware issue. Correct?
Prior to the problem, I started with Android 2.3.3, rooted the phone, and flashed a stock ROM (KK2). I have upgraded to 2.3.6. Unfortunately I can't be sure the problem occured since 2.3.6 because I don't play music that much, and I play games without sound.
Should I (a) re-flash stock ROM, (b) factory reset, (c) call Samsung?
Grateful for any recommendations. (I'm not confident/competent with replacing the speaker myself)
regards.
Check sound settings first .
Factory reset.
Flash a stock rom .
Rooted so warranty void .
You will need to clear root with a stock rom flash and reset custom rom counter to zero with usb jig .

Receiving a call has a separate speaker, so your problem is with the back speaker which plays tones and other music, do a complete factory reset and check for sound if its still not playing, then it could be a hardware issue.

Thanks for the advice. I didn't realise there was a separate speaker.
I've performed a factory reset but no success.
I'll call Samsung today and arrange for the speaker to be replaced.
Thanks again
I've Had Success..
Hey guys..
I know this threads old, but I had success fixing an AU TELSTRA i9100T with the same Audio issues presented here. Runing GB 2.3.3 Totally Stock.. No root, nothing.
Every-time I increased the Speaker level to more that Half way, I'd hear a deep "CLICK" sound then no Audio any more through the Speaker..
When headphones are in, No problems at all..
Strange thing is, that once I turned it down below half way, and Blew air or puffed or even Talked Loudly into either of the 2 x Mics on the Top or Bottom of the phone, the sound would return OK.... but, again if I turned it up past Halfway ( sometime maybe one step over half way ) it would CLICK again and no Audio through the Speaker.
So, First I was thinking HW, then SW, tried Factory Reset.. no Help at all.. same issue..
Then, I flashed ROM to the latest Stock JB 4.1.2 XWLS8 Spanish ROM floating about the forums and This fixed it.. Perfect sound. No Hiccups.. :good:
Just wanted to share this..
LMS..
So I've been using the CM10 nightly ROM for a long time now. I want my microphone to work. Im not sure maybe I need to wipe my device, and reflash. I've been just clearing cache partition and flashing the next update.
My problems im experiencing is when I use Google Now, my microphone starts to blink red meaning im talking, but its silent in the room. Also when im recording video the mic to record sound is terrible. its really staticy when you replay it. And when my volume is at max, or near max, my tablet's sound is sometimes scratchy. When i press down on the speakers it stops making the weird noises. Ever since recent updates, my camera when i take a picture lags and freezes for a bit, then takes the picture. I didn't have this problem before I started to root and flash my prime.
My ROM is on JB 4.1 last updated was 9/27/12.

This should be fixed soon... once we get the new kernel and drivers for JB, CM10 will be much better and fully functional!!
For some apparent reason, there's no sound playing out of my device. I can't listen to music, I can't even talk on the phone because I cannot hear the other person, unless, I put it on speaker...which is weird. Also, when I turn up the notification sound, that works. So when I get a notification, notification sound comes out of the speaker but when I play music it does not. Any help?
I did unlock my bootloader about a month ago. Flashed a custom ROM.
And yes I did do a hard reset.

As you are using CM ROM better ask the CM community and the CM dev in the CM thread in supplying logs, logs, logs as nobody else could help you.

Okay. The issues is now solved. It randomly started working.
Hi. I have a J7 2017 (SM-J730F) since it was released, and there is a problem related to the main speaker that has happened to me several times.
Sometimes, the speaker stops working. Headphones, Bluetooth speakers and the call speaker work perfectly, but the main one doesn't play any sound. Instead, if you listen closely, you will hear a low static noise when something is supposed to be played, and like an electric sound when the sound is meant to be stopped.
If this happens to you, maybe you have noticed that rebooting the phone won't fix it, even in safe mode. But there is a way to make it work again: just turn down the phone and wait a couple of minutes before turning it on again.
If you have other problems with sound and/or other possible fixes for it you can share it here, so somebody may find it helpful.
Omfg thank you I thought the speaker was dead

You're welcome
It must be a software problem
It works!
That is right.
This problem occurs after you do the root.
Power off and wait for a minute or two, then power on is enough to fix this problem.
Note: This problem always occurs when you do soft reboot with a third-party application, but it does not occur when you restart in the normal way.
I liked to share my experience with this problem.
Anyway, thank you.

I've never rooted my phone, and when this happened to me my device wasn't even rebooted. It's more like a software issue, and Samsung must fix it.
But the important thing is that this fix works to everyone, so you're welcome
Recently, my J7 Pro speaker went from loud to small even though I put it on Maximum Volume, does anyone know any solutions to this ?

If you have Sound Assistant installed, check that "individual apps volumes" are set to the maximum.
Thank you dude, legend
Well, doesn't look like a software issue to me.
Thank you man it's work :fingers-crossed:
HI THERE J730f i tried even to change audio Ic i flash it no sound at all loud speaker help
Lmfao
Thanks a lot, ive been sad but youre tip helped
THANK YOU S O MUCH!!! :crying:
My Mate 20 Pro shows a crackling symptomatic whenever i do sth. that would emit a sound.
Even with the speaker disabled (vol. on 0)!
How-To:
1) Get in a quiet location & Turn down the media volume to 0 (mute)
2) Open any audio playing app (Telegram, Whatsapp, Spotify, Youtube etc.)
3) Press your ear against the USB-C charging port (if you hear some faint whitenoise coming out of it, wait until its gone. If you dont hear anything continue with 4)
4) With the phone still muted perform an action that would trigger a sound from within the application (play video / music, or send a message)
5) You should hear an audible *POP* sound coming from the speakers.
// If you cant hear it try this:
A) Get an audio file between 50-100hz and play this after you completed steps 1-3
(I tried toggling mono sound too)
If you still didnt hear anything i need to RMA my unit :S
Expected behaviour:
- The audioIC should not power up if the volume is 0.
- No crackling on normal audio playback.
Kind regards
Martin
Tried all your steps and have no sound whatsoever. It is probably your device that has a fault. Sorry

I'm still on 108 too. I can hear that pop when I send messages on WhatsApp when it's on silent
Yep on 108 and have the same thing, apparently a software update will be available soon
Confirmed fixed with .122
Gaming crackling
I also have the issue you mentioned. I'm on .153
But I have a issue that is driving me crazy.
When I play games I hear a random crackling in top speaker. Its a crack during music not constant but random. I tried several games and it's constant .
I called assistance they don't know about this problem.
Can't seem to reproduce in music or videos.
Can someone help me? Give some pointer or how to properly test this?
Thanks.
@MartPwnS
Are you sure the issue is fixed permanent with the update? Have a new device (regular Mate 20) here on .108 with that issue and if I update I can`t return it to the seller. I`d like to keep the device.
@illyone might be too late but theres no crackling noticeable anymore.
