Another DOA Thread - Looking for options - T-Mobile HTC One (M7)

I have the T-Mobile HTC One M7. It's stock, never been rooted or any other alterations made. It's been running 4.4.3.
Several weeks ago it started having various app crashes (mostly HTC and Google services). I have another thread describing it in detail here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=60371768
I ended up doing a factory reset. Since then, it's been mostly fine, except for the occasional app crash (maybe once every other day).
Last night I put it on the charger as usual. After an hour or two, I noticed the charge light was out. I attempted to wake the phone, but it was dead. I tried for the next hour but was not able to get it to turn on. I even pulled the sim but that made no difference.
This morning there was no change. I connected it to my pc, and I get an error that Windows was unable to load the driver.
I'm guessing the system app crashes I was getting a couple of weeks ago are related (but I don't really know).
I bought the phone two years ago (off contract) so there's no warranty.
Are there any other tricks I should try b4 giving up? I can't even sell it for parts since I can't wipe it.

POLL: Evo 3d with freezing or random reboot

I'd like to get an idea of how many Evo 3d users have experienced freezing or random rebooting issues with their phones. I'm not talking about reboots caused by shady apps but random ones.
I want to see how widespread the issue is.
Not once here.
I have had one reboot, and a couple freezes. The reboot was while playing Gun Bros, the freeze was trying to get into the camera from the lockscreen. It went into camera app fine but I switched to 3D to fast. I find that letting the camera load then switching to 3D I have no issues.
Mine has frozen 3 times not a big deal really.
don't forget to bring a towel!
Mine froze or just went to black screen and became unresponsive 3 times a day.. just exchanged for a new one yesterday.... The store manager said his cousins does the same thing ...
He then called the rancho Santa margarita store that is a high traffic store/other service and repair and that manager said they saw and exchanged 8 phones yesterday by 3pm for freezing and rebooting issue

Mine started the second day I had it. Would reboot probably 5-10 times per day, but it seemed more prone to doing it when the battery was less than 50% full. Maybe the current draw exceeds the supply for whatever reason.
Anyway I got mine through the Sprint website, so I had to deal with telesales to get a new phone sent. Just had to do some troubleshooting on the phone with them. When they were convinced it was a hardware problem, they overnighted me a new phone. I've only had it a day so far, but no reboots yet (knock on wood).
Like the 4th day I had mine, I started getting freezing and random reboots, there was a period of about 24 hours where I was unable to use the phone because everything I did made it reboot instantly. I made an appointment and was going to go the the sprint store to have it replaced, but then it stopped with the random reboots. I haven't had a random reboot in over a month now. For what its worth it seemed like my hotmail account wasn't syncing properly and I think it had something to do with the random reboots, I deleted the account and added it again and everything is fine now
Had mine for about a week now with no reboots...Iv gotten the black screen a couple times but just pressed the home button and was fine....

I've had mine for three weeks now and had one reboot the first week. It does sometimes become unresponsive for a few seconds. Doesn't do it often, but I was thinking about switching it.
The results would seem to suggest that at least a decent number of these rebooting phones are only doing it from some buggy software. I don't believe so many phones could have faulty hardware.
Today mine rebooted when I was setting up a new wallpaper, right when I selected how I wanted it cropped it rebooted. Now its completely unresponsive. It boots up to the lock screen but doesn't respond to any touches what so ever. It's not frozen, I have the weather lockscreen and the animation is moving just fine, but I am unable to unlock it. I'm thinking I'm gonna have to factory reset...doh!!
UPDATE!!
I ended up taking it to the Sprint store to see what they could do. I was hoping they wouldn't have to factory reset. Well they did it anyways, but they also said the touchscreen needed to be replaced, so they did. I'm strongly thinking about swapping for a new one, instead of keeping this "repaired" one, I only have 2 more days left until 30 days are up though.
Unfortunately I don't know how accurate your poll will be on this site, the fanboys from other manufacturers are likely to throw off your results. LOL.
Hello,
I had 2 random Reboots. Once when I was in the middle of a Stock Trade. Unfortunately, when I tried to purchase the Stock, it had actually already risen.
I ended up Exchanging mine for another 3D yesterday. I wanted to do it Friday, but my local Store had a 2.5 Hour Wait and also said they needed to Test it to see if there was an issue.
That did not sit well with me so one quick Call to Sprint and they made a Note on my Account to allow an Exchange with no questions. As it was under 30 Days, I do not understand why it would be an issue in the first place. The CSR felt the same way. Especially since I have been with Sprint since 1999 with a perfect Payment History.
Cheers,
JJ
I've had mine since the premier ordering which was June 22nd I believe and mine just started rebooting this week! And it's doing it out of nowhere! Wondering if I have to do a hard reset??
One of mine rebooted itself about 5 times in the first week. Also I would get a network error when opening the browser, market, and online apps about 50% of the time. I took it back and the new one has not had any problems.

My 3D restarts atleast 2 times a day, don't have anything running but sometimes the default music player.
Had first random reboot this morning...out of 30 day period too...hopefully that was a one-time incident

My phones froze about 4-5 times and rebooted about 5 time within the last two days. Must be an app I downloaded though, cause it didn't start till last night. I'm just not sure which one, seeing as I downloaded a bunch last night lol.
Quick question folks: Is it considered a restart when I exit my web-browser and it sometimes goes to the white HTC screen, then reloads the home screen?

Galaxy S3 - Your Opinion After Frequent Usage

So, a few weeks back my Mozart started presenting problems... In it's defence, i've had that device for approx. 2 years and if you see the state it is in right now, you'd be surprised it survived this long!
Now I love Windows Phone and my next device would have been Windows Phone 8 but alas, I need a stable phone with me always and thus can't rely on the Mozart in its current state. So I sold off my iPad 2 and went ahead and bought a HTC One X and initially loved it but grew to dislike it... mainly due to random crashes (probably a device manufacturing defect) but most importantly due to the poor battery life.
So I sold off the One X and purchased a iPhone 4S however after a few days of usage, some microphone issues emerged. I got it replaced and soon enough, the issues surfaced on the new device. Checked online and a huge number of users are apparently facing issues with iPhone 4s as well... so then returned that and got a iPhone 4...
But alas! Websites on Safari were a pain at times, cellular data would kill itself during a call though it didn't happen always, and some other stuff as well... So now i've sold it off and am in the market for a new phone.
Today i returned my cousin's HTC One X and got a Galaxy S3... have been testing it out and am loving it so far... Especially the battery! Charged it up to 67%... have had Exchange Sync (Push) turned on, two Gmail accounts on 15 minutes sync, Facebook and twitter push, and made at-least over a dozen calls some of them going over 10-15 minutes... and a game here or there plus an hour at the gym with continuous music playback and referring to a workout app... and in 3 hours time, it's battery has gone from 67% to 49%!!!
If it were my One X, it would have pretty much died by now or come close to it. Even the iPhone 4 didn't produce such good battery results for me - but close nonetheless.
So now i'm considering to the store tomorrow and purchasing a S3 for myself! Wanted to see if anyone here could provide any feedback on usage based on a couple of weeks or days of usage of the device? Battery life? any crashes? Anything else?
UPDATE
Forgot to ask another important question... Now forgive my ignorance, but I am kind of new to Android - although I did use XDA numerous times to flash my brother's X10 + Arc and Sis-in-law's HTC Chacha... when i purchased this phone today for my cousin, it was a packed box. On opening and starting it up, it asked for a PIN code to activate. Which i Imagine meant that it was carrier locked?
The shop owner disappeared for 10 minutes and returned back with the phone unlocked and ready to use. He said he got it unlocked by using a proper code and all... and to be on the safe side, as soon as i got home, i did a hard reset and it didn't lock out on me. However, I do notice "ClockworkMod" installed on the S3 and also the state of the device in settings is set to Modified. What does this mean? Any cause for concern?

The shop owner probably rooted your device in order to unlock the phone (rooting voids your warranty), do you see a superuser app in the app drawer?
If so, install Triangle Away from the playstore or Chainfires thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494114 and reset the flashcounter. Than go back to the shop and let him reflash the rom to restore warranty.

If its just warranty... then not worried about that. As i purchased this one for my cousin without the warranty - Rs. 5000 cheaper (approx. $50).
But thanks though, this is good to know... 'coz I was planning on purchasing mine with the warranty!
Battery life is a lot better than the one x..... the s3 should easily be able to get you through a day of heavy use and have juice to spare.

GALAXY S2 - Stopped self rebooting after pulled battery for 2 hours? Ideas?

3 days ago I've ordered a brand new Galaxy S2 (Samsung CPU version) Right after ordering the S2 I've got brand new 3G SIM CARD subscription.
Placed the SIM inside of S2 and turned on the device after a full charge. Few hours later after it was charged the device got into "black screen" and rebooted it self.
I hoped its a one time thing but then later the same day and the next day it happened again. I've decided to reload a fresh ROM and hopefully it gets solved but even with the new ROM I had the same crash and self reboot two or three times during past 2 days.
Last night I've decided to try and pull off the battery for 2 hours and plug it back. Since then it didn't happened again for 20 hours approx.
However during my research I have found the following forum thread: http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s2-international/342229-s2-keeps-rebooting.html it says about many people that had same problem some people had it right after they got S2 same as I did and some people had it after few weeks or year...Some people had it even after Samsung has replaced their main board/device.
The question here is following: What If it will happen to me again?
I don't want bring it to store and stay without a device for 2 weeks until they fix it. I dont think I want 2-3 days old product from Samsung to be fixed. I didn't paid for such expensive device to not use it after I paid for it a full amount. (The computer vendor store where I bought it, they have a paper on the wall says that mobile phones cannot be returned if turned on or opened and that lab service takes 14 business days if something needs be repaired, they can either repair or give refurb/used replacement after this 14 days.
Also, If it will happen again on my device, How can I have full trust back in S2 after I had this issue and was reading all this information at the forum?
Looking to hear your thoughts
SOLUTION!
Oh man! This is really bad. living without a phone for two weeks is better than living with a phone that hangs and reboots everyday.
Don't decide now, use it for more few days and try many rom and kernels that you can and atleast try everyone of them for one battery cycle or two. And if after this it happened again I think you know what to do!
That rule doesnt apply to faulty stuff.Take it back for a refund-or at very least gwt it swapped for a new one and let the vendor piss about with Samsung

Anyone else experiencing sleep of death?

I have been using my AT&T black Lumia920 for about 2 weeks now. It runs Portico out of box (maybe, dont actually remember). I have been a WP7 user since launch so I know how windows phone works.
The first 3 days on Lumia 920 were fine, everything went well, however starting from the 4th morning I noticed the phone wont wake up by pressing the power button, nor did the alarm sound. I had to soft reset to power up the phone. So simply it's sleep of death. This happens every night and occasionally happen during day time when I leave the phone for a few hours.
4 days ago I cant bear the problem anymore so did a hard reset then flashed Rogers ROM on it. However after I reinstall some of my previous apps the phone wont wake up again. I looked into the backgroud loading apps and uninstalled Engadget, the phone did make it to the next morning. However after I got a few other apps from the marketplace the phone is dead in mornings again. I cant figure out if this is an app issue or system issue this time.
Anyone else having this problem? Should I request a replacement phone?

I have this same issue but I on;y have it at home where cell signal is garbage.
If I'm at work (in the city) i have zero issues.
If I work from home the phone will SOD more than once in an 8 hour period.
I'm curious, do you have a strong signal all of the time?

Signal is medicore at home where I charge, I use the phone a lot during the day so I cant really tell if SOD happens when siganl is good.
I don't think it has to do with the Signal. Me and my wife both have the Lumia 920 on the same Network, my wife never had this issue, I have it almost every day... I'm currently trying to get a replacement.
that happened to me once or twice before flashing portico, after flashing it never happened again

I've had this issue, I really never payed too much attention to it but its happening more often lately, with my wife having power button issues on her iphone 5 I began to think that mine was too having the same problem. But I can actually feel the button clicking which is something I can't feel with my wife's phone.
Nokia store updates to blame?
I've been having the same issue since I bought the device. It only wakes up after pressing the VolDown-Power combination.
My device has been running the Portico update out-of-the-box (8.0.10211.204).
To see if I could pinpoint the issue, I have been wiping my device and start all over. The wipe has been done last Friday night.
About 30 minutes after initial installation it prompts me for 6 Nokia updates:
* access Point
* network+
* accessories
* audio
* display+touch
* extras+info
This time, for the first time, I have NOT applied any of these updates, and until now it has not hung.
Another thing I noticed in the past is that when I disconnect from the charger (either cabled or wireless) it makes a sound.
After applying these updates in the past that sound was gone.
I will see if my phone keeps working throughout the week and then install the updates to see what happens next.

I tried the same, didn't work. Then what I did was uninstalling each one of those apps (my update list was bigger but some i couldn't uninstall as they were system settings) and then installing them back on the device instead of updating. No "SOD's" since, and i've had a lot. Hope it stays this way Either way I'm hoping the next update from nokia will fix these kinds of things.
Cheers!

I have the same problem but I think that is related to notifications, after uninstalling apps that used push notifications the phone last longer before it goes to SOD. If I use skype and whatsapp a lot the phone SOD more often and more frecuent too when I have it in my pants pockets.
I've never tried not installing the updates and the phone is wih the carrier so I can't test
I had several issues with this, and here on the forums I have made several posts thinking it was because the Keep WiFi on. But it is not!
I think it might be Battery App related. Or some other app, as some1 noted, possibly because of push notifications.
I had the last SOD several days ago, I have turned on Keep WiFi on, no SOD so far, yet before it was like several hrs after it was turned on. Also, I had overheating of the device on 2 occasions, then I have uninstalled EverNote, and everything worked fine. Again 4-5 dasys ago I had the second overheating issue, and the phone was in stand-by whole the time, I turned it off, waited 30 secs, turned it back on, no issues so far.
So, for now I cannot say what the trouble is except it is NOT OS related, it is APP related (probably an app with push notification).
The solution? Pretty unpopular, but that is the only 1, except for hard reset. Uninstall all the non-system apps from the phone, and install them back 1 by 1, and testing each app at least 24 hrs.

In the last 3 weeks I had 1 SOD, that last one 8 days ago. And that happened very strangely, I have received an email (heard the sound), and since my phone was in my hand I immediatelly pressed the power button, and the screen didn't come on. Tried 2 more times, and I knew what happened, so I did a soft reset and that was that. From that time, no SODs.
Is this issue limited to certain ROMS or non AT$T models? I have had mine for 3 months now and have yet to have the SOD and I have even recently ran the OTA update and still no SOD two weeks after that OTA.
I got the same issue with my Lumia 920 (European network/sim unlocked). Happened once after night and already twice during the day... . Phone has all latest updates installed... no idea what to do...

Review what apps u have installed. I think I have proven that it is push, and app related. Possibly even some battery app is responsible for this. Try uninstalling some apps, and to see what will happen.
Well, basically I got my phone back from the carrier it passed 5 days of monitoring without SOD and after 24 hours in my hands it happened. I did a hardreset to my phone to clear all my info before giving it to the carrier and now I'm sure that is some kind of app or at least a function that isn't often used by the OS.
I don't know if a flash could fix the issue since not everyone is experiencing the problem.
In my case it seems that the issue is increasing in its frequency...
I think I will have to go to Nokia Care Centre
1308 update seems to have solved this issue. At least 4 me.
My phone does not show any updates available
Got my phone yesterday and today it was in SOD. Luckily I woke up earlier than planned. Have a meeting today and things like this is fatal.
I need to be able to rely on the alarm on my phone.
Is there some way of disabling push notifications for apps, like in iOS? That would help a lot in this case, as it seems it's caused by push notifications.

Think its a gonner! (moved)

So I've had my Verizon LG G3 for almost two years now and was just about to get off the payment plan where my bill would go down by $23 a month and the good news was that I still really liked this phone and planned on keeping it. My son has the same phone and there are times he's running out of battery life, so I purchased one extra battery and external charger from LG...for only $20 total. Great deal...but now I'm regretting it.
About two weeks after switching out batteries at times, my phone started acting up. First it was 'SIM card not found', but a reboot usually fixed that. Then started the reboots...which eventually led to a boot-loop failure. Factory reset, and I'm back up an running for a few days, but then the problems started again. So after a few iterations of this, I decide to root the phone and load it up with CM13. I followed the tutorial on this site and it worked flawlessly. Within a few hours I was able to go down to 10B, root, and upgrade to CM13. The phone worked great.....for 3 days. Then the boot-loops started again.
Now if I try to reset the phone through TWRP, I get to the install process and the phone dies partway through. I even tried to use the LG Flash Tool to go back to stock, but after the process starts, I get to about 17% - 25% complete and my phone turns off...while plugged in.
Basically, I believe this thing got totally screwed up with the new battery somehow. I'll try send it in to LG, but of course its off warranty, so I'm not expecting much other than a charge to fix it. I'll let you know what they say.
If the cost is too high, or they won't fix it for free, I'm onto a new phone and it definitely will NOT be an LG. I'm thinking Google, Motorola or Samsung...not sure which one yet.
Advice to most...be very careful of switching batteries, even with OEM. That's when all the problems started for me.
