not a problem as I asked them before I got the phone.
I wouldn't worry about it, especially with S-OFF you should be able to set lock status and s-on before giving it back anyone so no trace to Sprint. HTC would have record but really why would they care. As long as the phone works they are just gonna refurb it anyway and sell it.

I'm leasing mine for $1 and I didn't even give it a second thought. Most of the techs at my corp store are rooted/jailbroke anyway so they could give a crap.

My mom just got home from work and she told me that HTC had called her phone and left a voicemail. In the voicemail this guy said he was with HTC product research and he wanted to follow up on a device exchange I did the other day.
Anybody else get a call from HTC after you exchanged your phone?
BTW my mom is the account holder so I guess thats why they called her and not me, even though it was my phone that was having the problem.
I got the same call after I exchanged my phone. I didn't answer, but they left a message saying they wanted feedback on my experience with the phone. Said they'll call back in a week.

I got a call last week. They said they called because I exchanged my phone and wanted to know why. I told them I had poor 3G speeds and volume issues. I also made the guy note that HTC needs to follow through with their commitment to unlock the bootloader.
I got a call but it was regarding the customer complaint on the locked bootloader. They asked how the issue could be resolved. I told them unlocked the damn bootloaders... Anyone else get a call like this?

I exchanged my phone last week and didn't get a call from HTC. Maybe when I take my current phone for another this weekend I will get the call...
First phone the power button was too sensitive, tend to hit the button and instead of sleeping the phone would come up with the menu (and usually go into airplane mode). The replacement phone has terrible reception.
You guys that got the call...did you buy from Sprint? I did BB and the Shmackle and never got a call.

I was just wondering this same exact question. I also got my current E3D from BB and the last one from RS.
Its mostly just if you get a replacement device.

I got a call from them too, talked to them for quite a few minutes about the phone actually, felt pretty good to have a manufacturer call me and ask my opinions about the device.
Way I look at it if they take the time to call you and get information why not pick up and give it to 'em. I mean who really takes the time to get that close with their customers' anymore really?
Anyway guy also told me that they are gonna keep doing it at least with Sprint for the moment and that they have been doing it for the HTC Shift and the 3D too!
I told the guy he sold me for life with HTC devices.
Just got the HTC call
HTC just called me asking me about my exchange(s). The gentleman was very polite, and even though he was just a note taker was pleasant to talk to. Asked what I like, disliked, etc. What I thought about the Sprint customer service. Asked me about the temperature of the phone which I never had a complaint about and the battery life which I answered that I always have a charger available close by at all times. Also asked if 3d was a feature or a gimmick, that would I buy a phone with it again.
Told them that with 2.3.4 that the Google Voice didn't support video, a feature that would be great to have.
HTC made me feel like they are truly listening to us.
I'm back to Sprint Stock Rom after having some fun rooting and picking up some ROMs. I have some problems with the camera freezing after taking a photo and HTC recommended to take it in their repair center.
I have S-OFF from Revolutionary and although I don't have the "Revolutionary" logo in my bootloader, I still have S-OFF on top. For whatever reason, I can't get S-ON to hide my actions (Don't ask about this, I tried everything).
I'm wondering if I send it in with S-OFF, that HTC will void my warranty and not fix my phone. I heard that some phones came with S-OFF so I can argue my case with that...

Well I would be very hesitant to send it in to HTC with S-off. As Aray asked, did you run the RUU, and then do "fastboot oem setsecureflag3" from the command prompt? That is what should set you back to S-on. Here's the thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194053. Now I haven't tried it yet, so can't say for sure, but it seems as though that's the working method to get back to S-on.

The other method did NOT work for me. The above method did work and I'm excited to be S-ON again so I can send it in for repairs and what not.

I used to work at a Sprint repair center about 11 months ago, and I guarantee you most of them have no clue what s-off even means. They have a new system called slate that does all the device testing, so unless it checks for s-off they probably wont even know...but I guess theres nothing wrong with being safe

Thanks for confirming that. I was following the other thread and saw that people were NOT having success with 'fastboot oem setsecureflag3'. Glad to see that 'fastboot oem writesecureflag3' works. Thanks for confirming that. It's good to know for future use, just in case.

Yeah, no problem. I'm just excited that I got to learn more about how cmd works and am really proud that I got this baby working again.
And I'm sending this in through HTC's repair center, I'm not sure if I can send it through Sprint's repair center.

Damn, that's going to take a bit of time to go that route. Have you taken it to Sprint to have them look at it? Sometime's they'll handle it in store. It'd be worth checking with them.

You know, I'm unsure about that. I would *think* you could still take it a Sprint store, because they are the ones providing you with cell service, but I can't say for sure because I've never had to do that. I really think they'd look at it for you though..
I would say if you have S-off, they probably wouldn't catch it. And even if they did, who cares? There were a few phones that got out with S-off set, and you were just one of those lucky few.
But I did run the RUU file to remove the "Revolutionary" from the menu system. That probably wouldn't fly very far with them.
Guess in the end it depends on the mood of the person assisting you. Learned if you get them to believe that they are your only hope instead of demanding that they fix your phone, usually you get your way, and the person helping you feels better too. Don't give him or her an excuse to deny fixing or replacing your phone.
And I believe that if there is an issue with the phone, back to stock and it still exists, then there is an issue with the phone itself. BTW, I have had my phone replaced twice within the 30 days of purchase for defective phones.

I bought my wires shift from bestbuy and Sprint took care of it. I did not have the Sprint warrenty just the bestbuy warrenty. Sprint charged me $35 since I did not have the Sprint warrenty, but I removed my bb warenty on the new phone and added the Sprint.

Well, I'll definitely contact Sprint about it. They have been very generous to me recently. Not only did they give me $50 service credit for all my lines, they gave me another $15 credit on top of the activation fee waived for this phone.
I'll definitely contact their service center and ask them what they could do for me. I'm pretty sure they'll go easy on me.
Last time I was at the Sprint store to get my phone replaced since it failed the radio test, the guy gave me the battery, back cover and 8 gig memory card and new phone while just keeping my old defective phone shell. That really hooked me up - he said that HTC only wanted the phone back for credit.
So I have a substantial amount of dust under the top right of my screen. I went into a sprint repair center and I was told they could not do anything for me besides paying the $100 deductible. I told them it looked like absolute **** and this is what they said, "Well sir, I'm sorry you are not happy but all we can suggest is using an Otterbox case and keeping your phone away from dust." I told them I work with concrete and they said, "Your best bet is to leave you phone in your truck then." I walked out after causing some attention and called sprint customer service. I told them what happened and they told me to go to the other repair center which is 40 miles from my house and see what they said. They apologized for the response the guy gave me.
Long story short I decided to call HTC (who were incredibly nice) and see what they said. They told me I could send it in and they'd give me a brand new one after having mine inspected. So here comes my question...
Question: I was rooted but ran the RUU and now am trying to obtain S-ON again. Once I obtain S-ON is there any way they'll be able to tell I was rooted with "prohibited" software?
Alright I have S-On now but it still checks for PG36IMG.zip's. Is that okay?

Yeah the bootloader always checks for PG86IMG, PG86DIAG, etc... You *should* be good.
If I am understanding Treve's findings, they know unless you've only used the cID-less roms from the past few weeks. It shouldn't matter for a hardware issue though.

If you root through the HTCdev method, will HTC tell Sprint so they will void your warranty and not allow you to get it serviced at a Sprint Repair Center? I'm paying the $7 insurance from Sprint and don't want to root it like I did my Samsung Transform and have it bricked and not have the Repair Center do its thing.
Does Sprint cover accidentals? If so, you've got an easy solution. Overall, it will probably depend on the person you interact with at the Sprint store.
I know of someone who bricked their EVO 3d wouldn't power up or anything. He returned it to the Sprint store and they gave him a new one. Rooted HTCDEV way had insurance but had to pay like a hundred bucks for the new phone. So I dont think Sprint and HTC communicates with each other with this kind of problems.

I sent an e-mail to HTC and they said that they don't tell Sprint but Sprint can tell (yea right) if its rooted, but that it depends on the repair center.

Yeah, if its bricked you wouldn't be able to access anything on the phone even via PC. There's no way to tell. Just tell them you restarted your phone and it wouldn't boot. If I was the employee I wouldn't bother to argue. Its easier for them to just write it off.
so I have unlocked by htcdev.com my question is what happens to my tep? If I end up dropping it in water or it is stolen then what happens?
Your TEP is still in effect, You did not void your insurance. Just remember not to tell them your rooted if you have to get a replacement. If mine dies and I have to call them, I'm just gonna say it got lost lol

awesome! thats what ill do then if anything happens to it.
Im wondering if there keeping a log of all users that are registered on the HTC dev. Due to the token and watermark. Because if they are they could tell sprint or asurion that you were rooted tho sprint would know due to the S relocked. Sprint really doesn't care tho most of the techs are on board with root.
Hopefully there is another method to root soon.
I know the ICQ thing was trackin stuff in the past and sprint shut it down wouldn't be something new if HTC snuck something in.
