After manually updating Cyanogenmod to a more recent version (from cm-11-20150517-NIGHTLY-n7100 to cm-11-20150607-NIGHTLY-n7100) I find that suddenly I have no network, no IMEI and no baseband version ("unknown"). I cannot make or receive any calls.
I used Clockworkmod (recovery-clockwork-6.0.4.3-n7100.img) to do the manual update.
I have tried all or most of the usual tricks. Flight mode on/off, disconnect USB, physically remove SIM and reinsert, reboot, remove battery, resetting Cyanogenmod and reinstalling Cyanogenmod by clockworkmod.
I would like to try reinstalling the modem firmware, unless anyone has a better suggestion. But where do I get modem firmware for this device? The links over at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2044937 seem dead. Browsing the Samsung website came up with nothing, and I didn't find anything just searching online for it.
Where do I get the modem firmware, how do I know exactly what modem firmware I need, and how do I install it?
This is for a Samsung Galaxy Note 2, GT-N7100.
I tried installing "GT-N7100_BTU_1_20121003084149_.zip" in Clockworkmod but got the error:
E:Can't open /storage/sdcard1/GT-N7100_BTU_1_20121003084149_.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted.
What is the generic "bad" a typical indication of?

Hello All,
(Sorry this might seem long but if you are good at rooting it's a quick read)
I could use some help. I have a rooted Eris and I have flashed a few different ROM's without a problem (New to rooting and flashing). I was recently running xtrsense and tried to flash a lockscreen called 3ring.zip. After that my network was lost. I do not have a nandroid backup (I now know why I should although I thought I did the first flash but can't find it now) and have re-flashed, wiped, factory reset numerous times with no luck. Everytime I do the phone goes through the setup but tells me that I don't have a network and to use wifi. It's not my Verizon account because I have reconnected an old phone in the meantime with no problem.I even installed a flashback zip to unroot but it doesn't work (it tells me E: No signature (1873 files) and E: Verification Failed and Installation Aborted).
I could really use someone's help.
Thanks,
CJ
Did you try re-activating the phone? Dial *228 and choose option 1.
Doing this from xtrSENSE should be fine. See if that helps.
Those error messages from flashing Flashback sound like you had an incomplete download. You also get error messages if you try to flash with a battery less than 30% (I think... it may be 25%?) but I think that the error is different.
Best all of you,
I'm new on this forum after I spend a full day looking for the solution to the problem that occurred when I received a perfectly good working Canadian Samsung GTI5500 and decided it was appropriate to perform a "restore to factory default" to get rid of any private information left behind by the previous user. A bad idea apparently because it will not connect to the same Wifi networks any more as it had been doing before the reset. It does not even try to connect it immediately gives "unable to connect to the network" I already tried a lot of things which i will list down here, in the hope someone can point out what i've been doing wrong or what I should be doing next to get it fixed.
- Airplane mode is obviously off
- Trying to add a network manually gives "unable to save network".
- Adding a Static IP doesn't work
- I tried a *#....# code to check if some WiFi setting was off can't remember the code but it didn't work.
- Tried another restore to factory default
- Tried a factory format reset which should reinstall current firmware with the *2767*3855# code
- Tried upgrading software with KIES, unfortunately "Your device does not support software upgrading via kies"
After all of this started looking into rooting and flashing firmware or ROM myself, but as a noob this is still kinda confusing and not sure if possible in Canada because it's not available at this link (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1087402) And I'm wondering if flashing ROM will solve my issue, or if there is something else to do..
P.S. Current firmware according *#1234# is PDA: i5500mugjj7 / csc: i5500mvmcjj7) don't know if thats relevant, but hea I hope anyone can help, would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Do you try stock rom to check if wifi still available or not
My friend asked me to look at this phone that was softbricked and kept going to CWM recovery everytime it was booted. I updated the CWM to the latest touch version via ODIN then formatted the phone clean. :good: Then I flashed 4.3.1 stable AOKP ROM and the GApps. It was fine, everything else was working. I connected the wi-fi, used bluetooth, signed into google account everything was normal and stable.:highfive: But then I tried calling and it said "no mobile network". Tried sending a text, could not. I went in and searched for network signals then registered to the correct(I AM SURE!) one.:silly: Still no luck. Then I let it choose automatically. Nothing. Then I thought maybe installing another ROM will somehow fix it and flashed CyanogenMod 10.2 stable. Still no luck. I searched around for a flashable radio but could not decide if that would fix it because as far as I am aware if the radio wasn't working no wireless connectivity should've been either.
The phone is Samsung Galaxy S III GTI9300 white 16GB (unlocked) and has been here in Nepal with Nepal Telecom Sim since it was bought. I have no Idea how the soft brick happened but I think this guy tried to manually update the phone with a stock firmware during which some **** must've happened.
Can you guys please let me know if this could be fixed?
Any help would be highly appreciated.:fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
There are hundreds of identical threads, search and read about efs and imei issues.

Ok so I bought a second hand s2 on a stock firmware then I flashed it with cyanogenmod 9. I then bought a mhl to HDMI cable and upon further info found out that cyanogenmod don't support mhl and apparently I needed a touchwiz rom, so I flashed a rom called chameleon and Viola my cable worked. I then looked into the multiwindow feature and decided to move to a rom with mhl and multiwindow support so I chose a rom called alliance rom. Everything seemed fine and then my data wasn't working for some reason, so I contacted my carrier (giffgaff) and they said they have blocked my data as the IMIE I have has been used before on multiple accounts for data abuse, I explained I have not done this but they said they would not remove the bar. I thought something was odd about this and upon further inspection I realised since I flashed my s2 my IMIE has changed to a weird 0049 number, I looked this up on Google and it says that this IMIE is a generic one and is caused by flashing sometimes. A lot of property seemed to have the same problem. As a solution to try and get my normal IMIE back I tried flashing back to a stock rom via recovery which has ended up bricking my s2 and I can't access recovery, only download mode. As this was the case I thought I'm gonna have to use Odin on the laptop to install stock rom but now I'm faced with a new problem. My PC wont install the Samsung USB modem, I have tried installing kies mini, installing the Samsung device drivers, installing pdanet al just to get the Samsung USB modem to install but it just doesn't. I've spent all day installing, rebooting, uninstalling, rebooting, reinstalling to no avail. So now I'm stuck with a laptop that can't read my s2 and forced to use my Samsung mini for internet and Downloading on a data plan (lucky its unilimited). Can anyone help me. Thanx in advance.
Honestly, to get this done as easily as possible, try another PC (and use paragraphs; attempting to read what you've posted was nightmarish & I almost didn't bother).
Hi guys,
A month ago my phone got stuck on Samsung's bootscreen (I was using CM10.2). I tried to restore a nandroid backup but the recovery wasn't able to mount /data, so I had to restore my phone via odin flashing official firmware. Then /efs was corrupted so I lost my IMEI (0049...), therefore I wasn't able to connect to the mobile network (no calls, no data connection...) and I hadn't a backup for that (yes, really dumb). Yesterday I took it to a repair service from a mobile store (definitely not the official one) and they restored my old IMEI number, as I can check it comparing the one behind my battery and the one shown dialing *#06#. But it still doesn't connect to the network, only emergency calls. When I try to call, it displays a message that says that it isn't registered in the network, and if try to register it manually, a toast notification displays saying that it's registered but another one in the notification bar says that the network it's not available.
Things that I've already done without success:
- Back up and restore /efs (kTool).
- Flash CM10.2.
- Flash official firmware.
- Tried with other's SIM (mine works fine in other phones).
Any thoughts? clues? anything that cross your minds? I need to bring my S3 back to life and I don't really know where to begin the research (I googled like hell, though).
I'll appreciate any contribution (even if it's just a description of how network connecting works at low level, codes to check, etc),
Thank you (and please forgive my poor english).
Try patched modern and kernel, if that doesn't work then take it back to your repair store.

Thank you for the quick response, I'll give it a try right now!
EDIT: It worked, thank you!!
I'll explain for others. I had CM10.2 before repairing it following the instructions of boomboomer. I've downloaded the firmware I9300XXUGMK6 from here and flashed it with Odin v3.04. After this, I had to get root again and flash cwm recovery (CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4 with Odin). Then just flashed the two files listed on this post. Now it works again.
