Sony Xperia Z Ultra $259.99! - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

Expansys.com is now selling the Sony Xperia Z Ultra C6833 in Black & White for $259.99 while the Purple is priced at $274.99, respectively. These BEASTS may be approaching 2 years of market life but they're still relevant today as they were when they were first released.
That 6.4" screen powered by a Qualcomm 800 IS still worth buying as a daily driver, backup, or extremely portable tablet. Sony is showing is still committed to this device by updating to Android M - a fact well known by all. It also demonstrates Sony believes this BEAST is still a relevant. Earlier today Sony sent out email notifications that 14.5.A.0283 is rolling out and an update is available on PC Companion.
Hell I bought myself another daily driver with an Expansys 2 year warranty that covers EVERYTHING INCLUDING ACCIDENTS for $24.99.
This is a great buy until a similar device comes along, it handles 5.0.2 buttery smooth and am sure well enjoy the same user experience when Android M is released in a couple of months.
Thought I'd share the information with my fellow BEASTY BOYS & GIRLS!

I would second you on that. Mine is two years old in three months. And it still functions like the ...no. Wait. The Z ultra was not a race car at the release. It had many bugs. Many bugs related to the new Qualcomm S800 series.
Leme put it this way.
I would now compare this phone to the philosophy NASA has been going by. The hard- and software they use is often old but stable. My point is that large parts of the code has aged and been refined so there's not many bugs at this age and stage.
TODAY the z ultra is very stable and fast. I think the software wasn't ready when it was released. So I would reather buy this today. Then when I first got it.
I have to say. This is the first phone I had that is absolutely perfect.
Off topic:
NASA has been changing software lately so I can't tell exacly what they are using. Many units switched to scientific distro

Need + Use = $259.99 Sony Xperia Z Ultra
I have to wholeheartedly agree with all the bugs! And YES, I totally agree about buying it now as to when it was first released - but then again we wouldn't have had this GORGEOUS 6.4" Tri-Luminous display. I bought this for the form and function, can't say it's been perfect but as of June 15,2015 when I decided to order another XZU, then I'd say it's pretty damn close to a perfect device.
So much so that everything I've seen to date hasn't even sparked interest to even consider bailing on my XZU. Sometimes it can be a little awkward sizewise, sure, but generally this truly is a piece of art with it's 6.5 mm aluminum frame and its top notch omnibalance design. That's not taking it's performance and feature set into account.
I mean sure I'd love an 820 & 4GB's of onboard memory, maybe even 32GB'S RAM, but I'm able to add a 128GB miniSDXC Card, root my device, and have the support of devs like you. A new device would take time to establish decent developer support. For me it's about what it's already available and how much of a device I'm going to actually need and use for "X" amount of time.
For $259.99 methinks is a great buy when I add need + use for any device, but when you make it an Xperia Z Ultra - 'nuff said...you simply can't beat that kind of deal anywhere. That is until it gets even cheaper than it already is!

Purple is GONE!
Seems Expansys has run out of the Purple Sony Xperia Z Ultra's! They also you to list the amount the had on hand for the Black and White models but now it's a simple "in stock now" down from the regularly appearing 40.
Now is the time to grab one of the bad boys even if it's just for a nostalgic reason. Plus remember they're offering a 24 month warranty for $24.99!
This is what Expansys is saying about their 2 year warranty -
"Keep your devices safe and secure by purchasing the EXPANSYS Service Plan. Expand your coverage from 6 months to 18 months, and protect your device from mechanical and electrical failures. For a minimum investment, you can ensure the safety and security of your purchase for an additional 12 months. For complete terms and conditions of Expansys warranty services, please click here.
Notes:
*Extended Warranty must be purchased with device, and cannot be added once item has shipped.
*Extended Warranty cannot be refunded once item has shipped
*Extended Warranty cannot be applied to b-stock, refurbished, or open-box items"
Really at this price you cannot go wrong - I bought my first BEAST for $629.00.
Here's the link should anyone want to grab another one of our favorite devices - http://www.expansys-usa.com/sony-xperia-z-ultra-c6833-unlocked-lte-16gb-white-251964/

ZU is selling in India at around Rs. 17000/- (~$260). I bought my second ZU two months ago after I broke screen on first one. Everyone said buy another phone but ZU is the greatest phone ever. I just love its display size. Now with new phone I got free Magnetic charger which is awesome and I don't need to open USB port.
I can emulate play Playstaion 1 and PSP games on it with graphics looking better than actual consoles. I feel so powerful with this device in my hand.
I have got screen replaced on old one (grey market for Rs. 5000/-) and gave to my wife with this cool back cover. :highfive:

I love the back cover, where did you purchase it?

Is an Ultra Z still applicable in 2014?

Hello
I have been interested in an Ultra Z since the first day it's launched but never ended up having one due to a main reason. With a huge screen on the device it is every graphic designer's dream to be able to draw naturally like paper and pencil. Unfortunately it doesn't work as well as the Galaxy Note series.
Now that I have gotten myself a Galaxy Note Pro, my quest in searching for a device that allows natural handwriting and drawing is over. Yet the Ultra Z remains a attractive device and the price has dropped significantly. I think the lack of purchase has causes the price drop faster than many other flagship phones from last year. Nevertheless with just AUD350 the phone has become even more attractive.
I am just wondering if you Ultra Z users think if it is a sane decision to buy a phone that is a year old now? Are there now better alternatives out there with a similar screen size? Also has Sony mentioned if the phone is reaching its end of life soon (including Google Play Edition)?
Sent from my SM-P905 using Tapatalk
I'm thinking the same as yourself, as it is becoming more affordable here in the US as well.
Seen it as inexpensive as $250, either new or gently used.
Only negative is no LED for flash, which means no light for emergency use.
I'm looking for an inexpensive LTE mobile phone, this MIGHT BE IT.
Another negative; no removable battery.

If you have no real use for a camera, then yes this phone is still a beast.

”screen flashlight ” in the Google play store works pretty well on our Z ultra.
I've had mine for about a year now, and it's still a very powerful device. You won't have any issues with running apps and games. Keep in mind that we also have the Google Play Edition of the Ultra, and it will receive Android L fairly quickly after release, and we'll be able to port it to our model.
Screen is still very good, battery life is (still) good, camera is not great, and performance is top notch. It was worth it to me when I paid $1000 for it a year ago, and it's definitely worth it now.
Check out the reviews and stuff on YouTube or something if you're still not sure.
I was afraid at first i thought it will be too big. But now i can imagine myself having smaller Screen even samsung Note seems small now, Too small.
As it has been said, if don't care for the Camera much Z Ultra is the Best.

Depends on how you look at it. If performance is the metric, you won't be disappointed. if you use camera extensively, well look elsewhere. and the last one, the battery life. It's quite good but if you compare with devices nowadays, there are better alternative. I'd say wait for the Z3X (if ever) in about a month. If it doesn't come up, then i can imagine the Z Ultra will be cheaper along the way.
Thank you all for your inputs!
I personally do not use mobile cameras for artistic purposes. I already have a Dslr so the camera is only for note-taking or public transport schedule. I think I just want a phone that is slightly faster than my HTC M7. It's true that there are better performers out there since this is a year old phone but any faster CPU than a Z Ultra has little to do with my uses.
Also there isn't a mobile phone at the moment that is as massive as this. I love the idea that I could read books with it in my bed. The Galaxy Note Pro is too heavy to hold in the hand for a long period of time.
The only bummer is the speaker. I have been spoiled by the M7's speakers for a year plus, very little devices top its superb sound quality. It will be the only downgrade for me should I go for this phone.

Is this legit? How long does a flagship Xperia unit has before it reaches EOL?
18 months supposedly. The Z Ultra should receive L, but the Z3 and Z2 should get it first. I would guess at least a few months or more after L is released.

I am pretty sure that the GPe will get L quickly since one of the key reasons for the program is almost Nexus updates. Google will push the L to Sony soon after official release.
All GPe devices should have L shortly after the Nexus series and I haven't seen any indication to the contrary.
It is also important to remember that Ultra GPe is vanilla Android with just the EQ added (Sony ClearAudio) and otherwise identical to a Nexus.

Since the Ultra's release, Sony has already pushed out a few prompt updates for it. I personally do not think this device is any type of priority for them. We will be damn lucky to get another update imo, and after we do, I wouldnt expect any more.
If it was Google handling the updates, things might be different, but this is a two generation old Sony device, not a Nexus. It is very close to EOL.

That'd suck if it's not getting L. HTC has confirmed even the M7 which was released before Ultra will get L
However Ultra hasn't been selling as well as they'd like they have probably even given up on releasing a successor.

Recently, got a Z Ultra (from a Mega 6.3). Don't regret it for the most part. Screen isn't the brightest in direct sunlight (not that the mega was that much better), Camera quality isn't as good as my mega imo, sound is lower (that my mega) I'm assuming because of the waterproofing, and kinda a fingerprint magnet. Other than that no complaints.

Normally 18 months?. I would think the GPe will get L before the Sony ZU. it was months before we got 4.4, although we did get 4.4.4 very fast
Just bought a second hand for AU$300. This shady guy sold me one with overheat issue. The phone isn't even very hot but it just freezes on me and stuck in boot loop.
BOOT LOOPS, My Favorite Breakfast Cereal!
The reason may well be because of the fact the BEAST is having one of America's favorite breakfast cereals...Boot Loops! After several minutes of this heat is generated in the upper left corner around the camera area. Liken it to running around a track numerous times - it takes a toll on it/you physically.
I've read it on one of the threads several times over the months just after the XZU became available as a GPe. Many new users were trying to root, flash ROM's, and fix the partitions since they're different on the GPe's and their devices suffered the boot loops too.
Download Flashtool, run a TA Backup and then flash a stock .ftf if that's what your looking to do. Providing this device is not HOT. Why would one sell a BEAST of a device with a bad case of the boot loops to begin with? Better yet why on earth would you buy one in that condition? All kinds of flags would've/should've been raised - didn't you even question how it got that way or why it was in that state to begin with?
They have these bad boys are selling for $314.99 at http://www.expansys-usa.com/sony-xperia-z-ultra-c6833-unlocked-lte-16gb-black-251963/ in the United States. Expansys sells internationally direct from the comfort of your own safe and legal hideout. THAT would've been a more prudent thing to do AND you would've gotten a warranty on top of it!
Just sayin'

looking to buy a xperia z ultra

Hi all, as a picky customer ive been following the z ultra forum as of a week now, i still havent ordered the phone yet but its the prime contender for me as the system specs are similar to the ones on my now broken LG G2 (r.i.p) it seems like a optimal replacement (and a bargain at the price it carries!!)
i have to say that ive never really had a sony handset before so im not that familiar with th UI, its perks and of course its bugs..
just needed you guys to put the final nail in the coffin on the deal for me as i find that its always best to get some info from "professional" users rather than "over the counter".
soooooo...
could you please tell me some of your praises for this device?? is the sony UI as restrictive as ive heard it to be? is the battery really that good?? decent accessories that you feel are worth getting??
cheers in advance!!!

Get the GPE version of the Z Ultra which I believe should be cheaper than the international version and runs stock Android.
However if you prefer to have the Sony suites of software then by all means go for the international version.
For the international version, you can flash a port of the GPE rom but you can't flash a port of stock rom onto a GPE set.
Sent from my C6833_GPe using Tapatalk
If you want to run different ROMs - get the international version. The GPe 4.4.4 and Lollipop is already ported so they are available.
The problem with the GPe is that it uses a different partition scheme making it unable to use ROMs for the rest of the crowd (C6802/6806-nonGPe/6833). I would therefore recommend a C6806 or C6833 depending on what bands (LTE) you want and need.
Because of the superior selection of ROMs including GPe, I would simply go for a C6833 unless you are absolutely sure that everything else than the GPe ROM is of no interest.
With the "Sony Edition" (C6833 et al) you have great options: Sony ROMs, GPe or AOSP/CM based ones in different flavors. I think this selection is reason enough to go for the Xperia rather than the GPe.

As they are in Italy I would not recommend the c6806 in either the Sony version or the GPe, get the c6833 (international). Sony's UI is very 'stock' android with very little bloat and packaged apps. As for battery life, expect 4 to 8 hours of screen on time depending on what you are doing. My GPe version on Lollipop has 5 days uptime, ~20% battery used and it says 13 days remaining on standby with the wifi on - no real use this week as I'm using my other phone.
thanks to all of you for your input.. its really apreciated!!!i think i'll go for the international variant as it seems i have a bit more to play with modding wise... now all i need to do is reach payday and order it!!!

Just looking at your sig, I think we could be the same boat.
I had 4 years all with HTC phones ( HD2, Ruby, One) and I recently made a first move to Sony phone, this Z Ultra C6833 and have no regret, even one bit. I personally think Sony phone has great battery, very responsive touchscreen, premium quality hardware built etc...which on par with HTC at least, or better.
Sony brand is somehow underestimated on smartphone markets. I didn't think about buying one, until I had one in my hands to try, and I was sold in 3 minutes. With the heavy dropped price on this Z Ultra these days, it's a steal, you'll be more than happy.

I agree that Sony is still a big name of the game, what I mean was Sony deserves more than that. It could be one of top 3 players. Here in Canada Sony doesn't seem to do much comparing to other brands name. I wished I'd knew how good Sony phones was sooner. It's great to know that Sony phones are doing well in other countries.
I dont know if there is amazon in italy, but I bought mine for €260.- on amazon.
The alternative was the LG G2 for €300.-
If you really like to use big phones, go for it. I actually wanted a big phone and really like sony Z line design of phones, not to mention the extremely appealing price. Snapdragon 800 and a huge phone for €260? It was a no brainer for me.
Not to mention the advantage of having a GPe Version, portable lolipop roms. Just in case you miss it, this phone has an IPS display, unlike the Z and Z1 of sony.
There are complaints though, so for those, you can find enough information. Personally, I am very satisfied.
just as an update i ordered the C6833 variant just now at 239 euro (im still rubbing my hands like monty burns!!) thanks to all for your input!!!
i'll look forward to sharing the z ultra sub section with you guys!!

I don't think I would be able to enjoy an iPhone 6 Plus in comparison with my 240 DPI phablet mode Ultra with MultiWindow and floating apps.
Edit: It seems like Sony start to list the Ultra as being "discontinued" so I think every interested buyer should pull the trigger soon. It gives me an indication that they finally stopped the production and that the stock isn't going to be replenished anymore.

I have recently purchased Z Ultra after having a lot of comparison with other devices and I have no regret that I have bought this device. The price was a major factor.
The screen size is something It would take time for to adjust with(First time using a phone with such a form factor, all previous devices were around 4.5 inches)
The phone is butter smooth and no lag at all. Battery lasts around 2-2.5 days with moderate usage(Have stamina mode ON for the full time).
I will surely recommend to get a ZU.
Just got mine
As a long time android user, recent windows phone user, I am glad I got this device. Was on winphone with tether to nexus 7, and figured I would stop messing around and start carrying a tablet (phablet) with the phone. I have always wanted a Sony device but couldnt justify the price. With an unlocked device at around $300 I figured it was a no lose situation.
I love it. The screen is magnificent. And there really isnt too much bloatware from Sony. Such great build quality so far, Ive been using it for about 3 weeks. (early Christmas present to myself)
I would say go for it.
Its great to be back to Android full time, I like MS, I really liked Nokia...but it just didnt do it for me.
Thanks so that should be my next device, I have been waiting for a pass for One Plus, actualy was the very first one to get it when it was launched in India but didnt have the money to buy it now I tired waiting endlessly for it and have decided to go for ZU

[Q] moving on from the ultra. going Moto X Style

anyone else looked at this phone? seems like a decent replacement and not too small.
if not, what else are people moving onto?
given up on sony releasing
I'm just looking at nexus, blackberry if the rumors is true that they will move on to android, or the classic HTC.
HTC is probably the manufacturer you can't go wrong with. If you look at this part of the XDA forum..its filled with devs making roms and kernels.
I think s810 is just temporarily. Maybe next year there will be a new series of soc that won't overheat as this years release.
Its just the same as with the tegra 3. You could fry eggs on it. But HTC moved on and improved their devices. And I hope they will release another beast in the near future.
Huawei is enlarging their market on mobile devices but I think its to early to invest in one of those devices. I want there to be devs who makes roms so I don't have to rely only on the stock rom/firmware to work when something goes wrong. If that ever happens...who knows.
Samsung is a no go. They don't exist in my world. Last and only device I owned was the SII Exynos 4210. They make good electronics elsewhere but not mobile devices.
LG is also a no go. Only nexus. To much plastic, big LG logo and weird cheap looking software interface on stock rom. Reminds me of MIUI and Huawei.
SONY is moving from europe home to japan. Okay...weird. So then I just won't buy your stuff then. Bye..I will never buy a sony mobile device again.
When "I" am buying a device. I am only buying the flagships. Because I am looking for an investment that will last for many years and won't seem slow even after four years compared to newer devices. And also the general lifetime of the device. I want there to be devs here on the forum that I can rely on after device has reached the end-of-lifetime.
The Z ultra is a bit special. It has the same hardware specs as its brother Z1....so for performance I would still call this a kind of side show flagship despite the low spec camera.
i'#d be ok with sony if they would release an ultra 2 but it's too late now.
samsung, i liked until the whole locking SIMs to europe only or whatever around the time of the note 3 i tink, maybe 4.
moto x is brand new but there's some people on the board already. once it shows as rooted i'll jump on there. it's cheap as well actually. well cheaper than the ultra was when i bought it

I don't have any experience of motorola exept for the old classic pagers and radios. I've never seen a moto x in real life so I don't really have any opinion. Its offered at a good price yes! but yeah I really dunno. The only con I can see is the tiny battery at 2300mAh.
From what I can see its almost like some mix to a budget nexus device..almost stock rom and no bloat apps. :good:
Me myself is waiting to see what google has to offer. There is already a bunch of pics of the new nexus devices but I'm curiously waiting for the release event

Question/Advise: From Nexus to Xperia Z family

Hi,
I'm planning to upgrade from a Nexus 5 to a Sony Z5 compact.
But I've been in the Nexus family for a long time (Nexus 4, Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 5 in that order. And I've used the Nexus 5 for almost 2 years). The Galaxy Nexus was the most comfortable smartphone I've used, and the Z5 compact is even smaller, with 65mm of width will be more comfortable.
I have some doubts about Xperia's Lollipop:
1) Could you tell If there are real differences between Google's Lollipop and Xperia's Lollipop?
2) Can I just "disable" all the Sony system apps, and install Google Keyboard, Calendar, Keep, Photos, (maybe Camera too, but don't know about that)?
3) And what about the stock Google's Phone and People/Contacts applications? (I assume these apps can't be replaced with the google ones, in that case, Is it possible to at least use Google contacts sync as default?).
And some other doubts about the phone itself:
4) I don't use screen protectors with Gorilla Glass 1/2/3 screens. But this new Sony phone includes "Chemical tempered glass + Anti-fingerprint coating", Is that a good glass?
Please consider that, I don't care about the scratches that are only seen when the screen is off and the sun is impacting directly on the screen.
If you had/have a Nexus and the opportunity try/have a Z3 compact or another similar Sony phone your experience will be appreciated!
Thanks!
I have a Nexus 5 and a Z3 Compact. While I prefer the "pure" Android experience of the N5, the Z3 Compact performs as well, if not better, has about three times the battery life, and fits better in my pocket. You will have Sony bloat, many (not all) of which can be disabled. There are a few Sony-specific icons (e.g. Settings) as well. You can use all the Google apps you want but you cannot replace the stock apps unless you root the phone. Overall, the Z3C is a great phone and I plan to purchase the Z5C as soon as it's available.

Thanks for the reply! I'm planning to get a Z5c too.
The Nexus are getting pretty big for me. The best size in a Nexus was in the Galaxy Nexus (without tpu).
Also tried the original Moto X, that phone fits perfect in the hand.
Did you try "Google Camera" in your Z3C? Is it recommended as a default one?
I don't use Google Camera. Sony uses some proprietary stuff on its camera processing so to get the best results I use the Sony Camera app.

does anyone know if you can still get custom sony camera stuff on other roms or is that tied to the sony stock rom?

im also a n5 user thinking of getting z5c, only thing holding me back is its almost double the 2015 n5 price here in canada..
How is that possible? 32GB Nexus 5 rumoured to be $449 (so I'd guess about £399 for UK). Z5 Compact is £429 and 32GB. Not even close to double. What is going on in Canada?!

well I converted the z5c to over $850 cdn from the clove UK price...
new n5 is supposed to be $400 USD which is just over $500 cdn (might be lower $450 like the ps4 is here)
Canadian dollar is taking tanking right now.... and sony doesn't make our easy to buy their phones here...

Well I would think that it would make much more sense to compare the Canadian price of the Sony phone vs the Canadian price of the Nexus. UK and mainland Europe gets completely screwed over in pricing but that's not the case for North America.

cant do that cause sony wont be officially be releasing the phone here....
The Z5C in Amazon.de costs about 550€ (preorder).
I think it's the best deal so far (in Europe).
To that price you shall rest European V.A.T. and taxes and convert from EUR to USD to get some "similar" price version of a USA's state that hasn't taxes.

The best deal has to be clove.co.uk @ £430 including a pair of sony BT headphones. Even if you don't want the cans, they will go for £30 so think of it as a rebate. I was lucky enough to pre order my Z5C from them in the two hours it took for them to correct the price from £399 back to £430. I am assured that they are going to honour the deal. Win! This has ended my wait for the unicorn that is the saygus V2....
Should I cancel my Carphone Warehouse preorder and buy direct from Sony? Which has better customer service? There's only a £10 difference between them once postage cost is taken into account. So it's all about the customer service. Anyone share any good/bad experiences with these retailers?
Alternatively, read the above post.

I'm desperate to get it ASAP and both Sony and CPW will start deliveries on 29th September as opposed to the week after. I don't mind paying a little extra for the privilege of a week earlier delivery as I already have some decent Sony headphones that probably outclass the ones being bundled in by Clove.
I've got a Coral one on preorder currently but I can't decide whether I prefer the Yellow that's exclusive to the Sony store. It's hard to know what they really look like when the colours look different whether I'm looking at Sony's website or pictures taken by tech websites for hands-on previews.
Well, mine has been dispatched from clove. They honoured the price error so I have the phone and Sony headphones for £405. Bargain. Let's just hope it doesn't melt into a useless peice of electronics in my hand, as reported by many unscrupulous websites who seem to have all jumped on the bandwagon after one questionable video was released by one person in China. Great way to get YouTube hits...

Something Like SmallApp & Xperia Home as Launcher
Also some extra features like Call Motion in Setting & White-Balance & Xperia Theme...

YES

Yes when u set ur google account all data from ur account will sync to ur phone

Yes the Glasses & Display itself on Xperia devices are really premium materials

:good:
Its around ten pounds for a glass screen protector. That's got to be worth investing in. Whether the screen is off or not, scratches are just plain upsetting. Its a damn sight easier to peel off the protector and put another on than replace the digitizer.

Well I have just faffed about with some AR stuff on the camera and then shot some timelapse video and it got to about 40 deg C. Thats fairly hot by my reckoning. That was without my bumper case on. The device even felt it fair to warn me it was gonna get toasty.
Nexus doesn't have the AR stuff so unfortunately I can't compare but the 810 ran a few degrees cooler in 3DMark consistently compared to the 800. This was repeatable.

Is this HTC Nexus 9 special real or fake or unloading defective returns

Is this HTC Nexus 9 special real or fake? Or, unloading refurbished returns or defective junks or may be even cheaply made different models for Chinese market?
HTC Holiday Special

Reading user negative reviews on Amazon HTC Nexus 9; is HTC products really that extremely bad?
Are overheat and screen bleeding and many defective hardware issues still persist and unresolved?

However, after carefully reading these user reviews, we have a slight notions that may be, just may be, some people (ie, “Family Fun Store”) is sneaking different HTC Nexus 9 models (made for Chinese market) and selling it in Amazon (have Amazon doing the fulfillment) which is very poor in quality control and cheaply and badly made, not intended for American market.

That was a legit HTC sale. I think they were just trying to empty the inventory over the holidays. It's not the tablet I was hoping for, but marshmallow made it much better. Many people reported no issues. As I'll be looking to upgrade my N5 in the fall, I'm super concerned about the phone(s) being HTC. Although they have a rep for making good phones, my N9 experience screams a warning to me. There did seem to be an issue with quality control, and some sellers may have picked up "defective" ones to resell.

I bought one in late november at that exactly same price from the same HTC store. Mine came with a build date from early november 2015, so I got one with less than a month from being manufactured.
I'm happy with my tablet, it does what I want and have not had any of the early problems. It does get hot in the upper right corner but that's just normal in this tablet... I think that's a processor thing and not necessarily a defect. About the screen bleeding, I have none at all. The only thing I don't like are the buttons, but I solved that with a smart-cover for turning on and off, and the volume buttons are not used that much so it's fine by me.
The thing about this tablet is that it's not worth 399, but 239.40 it is... I don't you can find a better one for that price, and first in line for updates? Don't be scared!.

Thank you very much for your reply. Did you purchase directly from HTC? How is any customer services from HTC? Are you able to get Android updates? When you purchase it, what was the Android version? What is the Android version now?
When you say it gets hot, how hot? Is it too HOT to touch, after how long usage?
So far, are you heavy user, does this device hot up well?
Thank you very much.

-I purchased directly from HTC in a sale, just like the one you found at exactly the same price. I got the White 16GB
-I don't know about customer service... I ordered it and it arrived rather quickly but I've never contacted them after that.
-Of course I get android updates. As soon as I got it it had a couple waiting to be downloaded... I mean, is a nexus!. Anyways, I have a custom rom but I can go back and install whatever I please. That's the beauty of a Nexus device. This device WILL get the next android N so officially you're good to go for at least another year, but being a nexus it will keep getting support from the developers for a couple of years more and that's for sure.
-Recently I reinstalled a rom and while it was installing all my apps the CPU temperature got up to about 75-76 C, which is within the safe limits for the CPU. The thing is that it transmit the heat to the upper right of the screen and it might feel uncomfortable for you because that's pretty hot. On normal use it does not get close to that and it works just fine. I'm not a heavy user, I use it for social media and occasionally to play a game, where it does sometimes get a little bit hot... but as I said, I don't care because I feel like it's normal. But yeah, from time to time it gets hotter that other devices.
Coming from an old Ipad 2, I can say that the nexus 9 battery sucks in comparison. That old ipad was bought in 2011 and it still lasted several days with about 10 hrs of screen on time... this one gets 2-3 days with about 4 hours on screen on time. But again, I don't care, I keep it at home and I just charge it often. That being said, if you want a very good built tablet, even if it hurts to say it (as an android fan), you should get an ipad. But if you can only pay under 300, the nexus 9 is the best you can get for that price.
Edit: I Heard that the pixel C is at 350 right now, so it might be a better choice. Check it out!
Now I am seriously looking at the LG G Pad 8.3 V500.
How is this LG G Pad 8.3 V500 compare to the HTC Nexus 9. The cost difference is around $80 to $100.
Both will be reasonably useful enough for my applications.
My main concern is product quality. Reading all the Amazon feedbacks and comments (I only read the negative 1 or 2 stars) on the HTC, I am greatly concern.
For app developers, would one select either HTC Nexus 9 or LG G Pad 8.3 as their primary hardware testing platform? Thank you for your comments.
I have the release version of the N9. I did the preorder and got it as soon as it was available. I've had it for 18 months. Build wise I think it's fine. I haven't had any issues and I use a $5 case from amazon.
I won't deny that it doesn't do some things that well. My biggest issue is it doesn't play The Simpsons Tapped out once you get a lot of stuff in your city. (I know sad for a 43 Y.O. )
Other than that it's fine. great for a reader, videos, and general web browsing. I do wish it had a Qualcommm chip over the Tegra. My 2013 N7 does things better than the N9 does.
And the N preview is really good on it.
Please confirm this HTC Nexus 9 has NO MicroSD card slot. Correct?
If no MicroSD card slot, this shall not be the tablet product I can use.
