[q] scratches on home button? - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've just received my S6E today and I was really happy until I noticed the scratches on home button. Is it only me or someone else is also having this issue? If there is any solution of it, please do guide me. I'm so upset now

My s6 edge has no scratches on the home button. However, the home button on my brothers iPhone has plenty and he does not complain. I believe the only way to remove scratches is to replace the scratched hardware, however I could be wrong.

If tipu contacted Samsung they might replace it under warranty as long as you believe it is a manufacturer defect. Just a thought.

@SAW_JOK3R , First of all, the home button and the gorilla glass 4 on both sides are "fingerprint magnet" So maybe you mistook the ridges of your finger with scratches. But if the scratches are really prominent, consider replacement of your device. (if they agree to do so !!) In extreme case, just forget about it

Dude that's a bold scratch out of the box I've not found the front and back glass as an huge finger print magnet but the home button is. Forget about finger print. I'm talking about visible scratches on my BRAND NEW DEVICE

That's sad Try replacing it and next time don't ever buy a flagship phone from online stores even though it's reputed !! Buying from a nearby store has several advantages ... you could have noticed that scratch at the time of unboxing for instance ....
Moral of the story : Buy only budget phones from online store

Or does not look like an ordinary scratch. It looks more like someone stabbed the home button. I believe that it would be classified as a defect and Samsung would replace it with few questions. Very sad

You're not alone. My Galaxy S6 Edge also came scratched right out of the box. There are few hairline scratches on the screen and home button of my new S6 Edge. Please check the attached pictures. I brought it from a nearby retailer but I couldn't notice them at the time of purchase as they are only visible in direct sunlight or if I use my phone's flashlight to highlight them. I visited their authorized service centre, contacted their VOC team and send several emails to CEO office regarding this but all in vain. Now finally they are telling me to pay INR 9400 (USD 149) to get the home button and screen replaced. Are you kidding me? Why would I pay INR 9400 to get my new smartphone repaired? Here's is the email I received from a lady working in Samsung head office/CEO office:

It's not about buying it from online shopping portals like Flipkart or Amazon. I brought it from a nearby retailer still they didn't replace my phone.

Thats the risk of buying such expensive gadgets online. And i had the same issue too, but since i bought it in a store when i opened the box in store itself the home button had scratches and it was not even aligned properly. The home button was looking cross since it was opened right away in the shop they said they will get me another piece and when i opened the another one, though it did not have any scratches the home button was slightly cross aligned. But i still picked that up as i did not have any more patience to check other pieces. So yeah the scratch issue is certainly there and may be the alignment issue too. But alignment is not observed so much by people. I am a photographer so generally my observations are more. If you have bought it on flipkart they should replace it. Just cancel the order and buy it in a store. All the best !!

That's the thing I purchase online If they continue in giving me faulty device then new device every week yay! :silly:

I have the Samsung Smart Case, luckily for me I don't have to press the Home button to wake or sleep the device. I just have to open the case.

I got curious, I put my phone under a very bright lamp. Saw few hairline scratches, I must have gotten those from putting the phone in Safe mode over and over yesterday. Just as I thought that Samsung finally realized that they should match the builds of iPhone and HTC, I was proven wrong. How can they miss this part? It's the Home button FFS, why use some cheap material for it? I hope some company will come up with a Home button cover to hide this piece of sh*t material's flaw.

Dude, Samsung has used the same material as Apple did to iPhone 6/6Plus. If you search a bit you can find that the home button of iPhone 6/6Plus takes scratches lot more easily. The thing is that they can't put some SOLID kind of material on it because of the sensor under it. And talking about HTC One M9+ 's sensor, it sucks TBH. My bro got it and sold it in a week It's sensor has significant delay.

That looks more like just the protective film they ship with.

Cracks appearing on back case.

I noticed yesterday small cracks appearing round the edges of the openings in the white back of my S3. I've emailed Samsung to see what they will do about it but thought i'd see if anyone has had issues like this. I dont take the cover off my phone very often and i'd say it's been off less than 10 times since i've owned it (July).

My brother's S3 had that and he barely removed it since he is using a case. Like once a month. It has been an issue since the beginning. You have to buy a new back cover if you can't live with that. Or a case.
Be aware these are some of the weakest parts of the case, if when removing the case you bend it back to far this may occurr. What is too far?, when that was
To open the case you should only pull it back ebnough to get your fingle nails under it and then pull it back and off without bending any of it, this is possible, i've had mine off numerous times this way with no damage at all.
New backs cost naff all though, just replace it fella.
Show iSheep why a removable back is so awesome... Get on ebay and buy a new one, they are really cheap (thank you plastic) then laugh at the iSheep you know who have to send it in for service when their precious chicken foil gets scratched.

Samsung will probably claim user damage and take no responsibility anyway so hit ebay and get a new one.
Take the chance and show the iSheep what customization is all about - I've even seen a carbon fibre one for less than $10. A regular plastic one is even cheaper and there are all kinds of covers, plenty to choose from.
I have a crack like that too. And the white around the Samsung letters have also started flaking off.

Buy one from ebay, you can buy metal/poly-carbonate and other sexy backs, or a very cheap regular one.
my white:silly: iphone 3gs developed similar cracks all by its self , i think something is wrong with the quality cuz my 3 weeks old galaxy s3 doesnt have any yet hopefully not in the future
Thanks for the responses, but I think a lot of people are missing the point. The back case is not fit for purpose. Yes I could easily go onto eBay and buy a new one and there are loads on there to choose from. As for iSheep, I've owned 4 iPhones previously and if I had this issue with any of them whilst still in warranty, Apple would have replaced my handset with out much hassle.
If Samsung ever get back to my support query and suggest that the cracks are caused by myself i'll be really disappointed. People can complain all they want about Apple products but their customer service is second to none when devices are still in warranty.
Flame away......
Same problem with my back cover, and only one point I change battery twice a day I will regular basics since 3 month so I do expect some wear and tear

Actually, from someone who worked at an applecare call center, I will disagree. We were actually instructed to always try to make it the user's fault if possible. It's easier than one would think. That and gut customers saying they're only covered for 1 year when you actually have 2 under Europe's laws. Only when the customer insist A LOT and starts citing laws, were we allowed to escalate the call to a second tier operator who'll still try but most likely end up complying with the customer's request for that 2nd year.
I could go on forever with the **** they have us pull on the customers (some are real asshats that actually deserve though)
Not saying Samsung's any better, I actually don't know how Samsung's service is (hell, I'm actually not expecting it to be any better) but trust me, Apple is not there for the customer, that I know. If you experienced better with Apple, I'll actually be glad since I wasn't cool with their behavior by any means.
Let us know how it turns out please
I bent mine in half and all the paint fractured on it, thought they were really flexible, I guess not
I few months ago i posted a thread with this same issue...
well, a few weeks later, I managed to fix my problem with a "non-cientific" method... to say at least... but it worked for me, don't know why... I removed the back cover... plugged the usb cable on the phone and put the back cover back to the phone with the usb cable plugged in... checked to see if it was properly fitted ... and believe it or not.. the crack on back case was gone...
give it a try... maybe works for you too

Scratched screen out of the box (T-Mobile)

Just opened my brand new S6 Edge from T-Mobile and the screen has about 6 small scratches and 1 decent scratch on the top left of the screen.
You can barely feel them with your finger but if you hold it on an angle you can seem them.
On the phone with T-Mobile to have them send me a replacement.
On a side not this phone is beautiful. The display is AMAZING!!

Could you be any more nerdy???
I don't have time to take pictures and was just putting this out there to warn people to look closely at their screen.
The 6 or so little scratches I found are very light but absolutely there.
T-Mobile is overnighting me a replacement.
For the record it was a S6 Edge in black 32GB
I just checked my black 128gb one and it has a perfect screen,

Why is it so hard to believe his phone arrived with a few scratches? Every company has a few defects slip through QC.
I'm not trying to light a match here because I am a new member, is it really xda's thing to asuume everything negative posted without pictures means there lying.
Maybe I'm old, (I am) but I always thought forums were about a community for help and support and a way for people with like minded interests to come together. If that's the case I imagine I should just stay a lurker taking advantage of the developers Roms and not offering any input or help to others.
Bit of a sad world we live In if this is how we now define a community.
Guess I just still live in a different time.
I believe. I've had the same issue with Samsung and Other companies in the past. Just one of those things that can happen during assembly. Good thing is that they will replace it because it's a manufacturer defect.
Anyway thanks for the heads up. Good to know to look for this when I go get mine on the 10th.

If you actually followed the conversation, you would see that the member threw insults at me for no apparent reason. So I guess if you believe that is allowed and permitted, then by all means....
My replacement is scratched up as well.. wtf
Same problem here. About half a dozen small hairline scratches in mine (128GB black). Not a huge deal, but I'm paying almost a grand for this phone, so I want it to be perfect.
Got a replacement coming, so hopefully it's alright. If not, I may just exchange it for the normal S6. Might be a manufacturing problem with the curved screen.
There is another thread in the general section with several people reporting the same problem. Not sure if samsung or tmobile is to blame but it is clearly a problem.
My phone actually had scratches on the back and light bleed by the bottom left corner. Im on the phone with tmobile but they are telling me the system wont recognize my phone's imei, possibly due to the phone not being officially released yet. They want me to order a new phone and return this one, and I will be credited. Wtf how are you guys getting phones overnighted? I reported the damage one the 2nd full day and according to the rep there is a three day grace period for damaged or defective goods.

Too late. I was just so frustrated that I followed their instructions. I ordered one with next day shipping and was told my original order would be completely refunded, including shipping costs. So it will be a wash in the end, but I probably won't get the new phone until tomorrow and I am not sending this one back until I get the other one.
I will say that my phone came with a small scratch by the multitasking button but at this point I don't care. I was mad at first but I hate calling to complain.
My 32GB black one came yesterday (4/2) with overnight shipping and it had a couple of scratches on the screen and top bezel. Not deep enough to affect viewing on the display but noticeable when the screen is off and you see the phone in certain angles under lights.
Like the previous poster mentioned, the scratches are not all in one direction or in a pattern. Mine happen to go diagonally on different parts of the phone. I am guessing it is because the plastic front and back glass protector it ships in is not fully attached to the phone. It's like a plastic sleeve with a open top and bottom so the phone has a little room to slide around against the plastic as the box is thrown around delivery trucks. Mine came in a shipping envelope instead of a box so even the box with the phone in it had room to move around as it went through UPS.
These initial scratches are not a deal breaker for me for now though. The more concerning part is that it appears there has been no improvement in terms of anti-scratching/Mohs scale with Gorilla Glass 4. So my concern is how the phone will hold up over time without a screen protector if it was scratched so easily before I even got it.

Help! Shafted by Sony's incompetence and false waterproof claims!

Repair # 1-20162112859
My phone was left on the table while it was raining last week (flaps fully closed of course) and when I picked it up to check something after a while I saw it was turning itself off. After that it never came back alive no matter what I tried. I noticed the camera lenses had fully frosted up so it was apparent that water had seeped in somehow.
I dried the phone for over a day but it simply didn't work! I sent it to Sony for warranty repair as I expected it to be covered since I used it under their advertised conditions and you expect it to take a bit of rain at the minimum.
To my utter horror they have come back as saying that because the phone has some other physical damage on the other side (it has a very slight bend in the left side middle which i don't recall it having) it means that the warranty is automatically void and they don't even need to investigate the water damage or the reason why the waterproofing failed via faulty flaps! But the failed flap is the one on the opposite/right side where the SIM and memory card go! It doesn't even make sense!
I have attached the repair centre (SBE Ltd. UK) sent pictures as evidence.
I assure you that the 2 are completely unrelated and on the opposite sides of the phone. They are simply using cause and effect and not scientific tests to rub their hands off my claim. There are plenty threads online showing that Sony Z3 phones have been failing at waterproofing. Given Sony's dropping sales they should at least help out their customers and stick by their principles and marketing claims.
To top up the experience the rude customer service even charge me £20 to ship phone back! Extortion?
I was a staunch Sony fan who owned the Xperia S, Z, Z2 and Z3 but my Sony story is well and truly over! I will go to a small consumer court as I will not give up because I am right! can anyone in UK advise what are my rights and course of action?
More shocked than disappointed.
That doesn't look like a Z3v which this is the sub-forum for.
I also had and issue with the upper right/lower left corners developed a crack in the body of the phone, contacted Sony and they said "sorry warranty is voided, physical damage", phone has never been dropped, but I do carry it in my back pocket. Hasn't gotten water in it, but have not gotten it wet yet to see if water resistance integrity has been compromised.
Phones are too thin now-a-days and bend and flex way to easily. $.02
Lesson learned -- never buy thin phone again.

I have insurance with Verizon, so I just know Verizon will take care of any problems with my phone. I know Sony is hard to deal with, and I was trying to get help with a Bluetooth headset I have. The screen went out for no reason, but they require a reboot for proof of purchase. I purchased through eBay and I have PayPal as my proof, but they won't accept. Idk what else to do.

I'm usually careful with my phones and keep them for 2+ years with just normal wear and scuffs but this just makes me think about getting square trade every time I read stuff like this. It would be nice if pay pal had at least 1 year protection for electronics at $250 and up.

Odd isn't it? I mean, I have ordered products through eBay before and had a problem with that product and the manufacture had no problem accepting eBay receipt as proof of purchase and warrantied the product no questions asked, difference between a good company and Sony.

Cracked Camera Lens Cover

I'm not sure if this is the best place for this thread, so if anyone has a better idea, please let me know, I will move it.
I recently pre-ordered the LG G5 (H820 Gold) from AT&T, it arrived last Wed, and unfortunately my case won't arrive until two days from now. I accidentally dropped it on the ground when getting out of my car, and now the glass covering the camera lens is cracked. It doesn't seem to affect the camera functioning, because it looks like it is outside the field of view on the camera. However, I am sad that it is broke. I was wondering if anyone knows a place that could repair it, or how much it would cost?
I found out it is not covered by AT&T's warranty, or LG's warranty. I'm emailing LG support to see how much they would charge to replace directly, but I'm not above going third party repair if it is cheaper and still reputable. I realize the phone has been out a total of 4 days now, but I actually broke it a day before that.
Totally sucks man. Best advice is to slap a cover on it and be as careful as you can with it since the cracks might get worse. and actually affect the camera quality. That or call LG for an estimate on repairs.
I'd get a warranty with squaretrade and then file a claim to get it fixed if a repair shop charges you more than $80.
Thanks for the info.
BTW, for anyone wondering, LG is going to make me MAIL my phone in, wait 6-8 weeks, then they will tell me what the estimate is to repair it... then I can decide if I want them to fix it, then regardless if they fix it, I wait another 6-8 weeks to get my phone back... This is stupid.
Anyway, my phone carrier does the same thing, except that its a $200 deductible, along with $8 a month for 2 years. Then I have to mail it in, and wait for them to fix it and send it back.
I'll probably check out squaretrade, that almost seems the best answer, but I'd still have to find my own repair shop locally.
They probably barely have their G5 repair parts program going yet. It's likely weeks to get any repair done, even a screen. I've been trying to buy a spare battery and charger because I don't want to wait for my freebies and even those are not available yet.
This is why its key to ha e a backup phone. 6-8 weeks is only because its new i'm guessing. But yeah its so new and they dont physically inspect before letting you sign up for insurance right? So check fine print. If they dont have "pre existing condition" type restrictions it might not be unethical to sign up

I don't have a problem signing up, my problem is with the fact that even with "Insurance" or "Warranty" I still have to actually pay them to fix it... and I have to wait FAR longer than I should, just for them to give me an estimate, I mean, do they really not know how much a camera cover costs?? do they have to look at it for 6 weeks just to know that it needs a new piece of glass??
On top of ALL that, I'm less than 20 miles from their repair facility, and yet I still have to mail it, I can't just drive it up there, which would take less than an hour of driving.
I'd rather just have a cracked camera than be without my phone for nearly half a year, and then have to pay nearly half the phone's price just for a 1 inch piece of glass.
Yeah that super annoying man.

Just wait until repair shops have access to the parts and get it fixed for 40-50 bucks

Hey OP, wondering if you found a replacement for that yet? I just got the LG G5 and on day 15 set the phone on a desk and the glass cracked back there. I'm looking everywhere trying to find a replacement and coming up short. I really don't want to pay $175 to file a warranty claim. Thanks!
Sorry bud, I haven't been able to find one... Only options were to mail it to LG and wait, or submit claim with my carrier...
Same boat here. I've never ever broken that glass on a phone. I picked up my phone today to see that it was shattered. Mind you, my phone has always been in a case. Seems they're using too thin of glass for this part.

The same exact thing happened to me. Pissed me off. My brand new phone looks like a pos now... 175 to use my insurance to fix it...
Same issue here, had it in a case since day one, just pulled my phone out and noticed that the glass covering the camera is busted, really disappointing never dropped my phone, or had it in a pocket with anything else.
LEMON LAW?????
Same crap here! WORST quality control phone I've ever had! I miss my Note 3.
Question is...HOW MANY FLAWS DO THERE HAVE TO BE TO FILE A LEMON LAW LAWSUIT or take action!? First, the phone's screen was wobbly and wouldn't hold a hard screen protector, then the headphone jack issue, then the freezing...then the black screen issue...and now this camera lens issue!? If they used a bit thicker glass, it'd not have happened! My phone's ALWAYS been in a case. Never have I had a screen break, let alone, a camera lens!!!
I am literally a cripple in a wheelchair who never leaves home. I took my phone off my desk to see my child and the wide angle lens was all wonky.. .I turned it over:
I have an image but it thinks I'm a spam bot... So just go to my web server: sirgcal.com/misc/LG/20160509_170035.jpg
I also have a question into LG on this one. Perhaps if they get enough of them it'll get recalled? If not I'm waiting till the local phone repair place can do it. I don't go anywhere so for me to drive out is almost impossible and for me to be without a phone more-so. I could re-use my old Galaxy S4 for a while if I had to, per-say. That would all be up to sprint.

This is also why I don't do insurance. The repair itself wouldn't cost that much when shops get the parts. Going to take a while for 'new' phones. But... Unless you completely damage/lose your phone very early on, it's just not cost effective to me.

YEAH!!! How about a recall on these main issues!? Screen defects and definitely this crappy lens on the camera! It's a huge deal for me, as it's over the main camera...and my beautiful phone now looks like dog crap!

I also had the phone for 4 days until it hit the toilet
Add me to the list. I have it in a huge soft hard combo case and noticed last night the camera glass was broken. I think its a combo of too thin glass and too tight of a fit so when it drops even with a case, it shatters.
Between this and the non rooting since LG removed fastboot cmd, I might just jump to the m10
sent from my unrooted g5 cause T-Mobile and lg are jerks
I had a note 4 for two years and not a single issue. Just the other day I noticed the glass was cracked on my G5. I am furious. Can't find a replacement part yet. Please keep this thread going for when we have the ability to get these parts.

Question Samsung Trade-In: any issues?

I had an "almost" successful trade-in from Samsung.com, I sent my S22U and they just received it yesterday. It has no cracks nor scratches at all, it is in prestine condition, I took pictures and videos before boxing it in. Then i received an email saying that the phone have "crack" on body and / screen! So they're going to charge me $155! I was so mad and I immediately called CS and i told them It has no cracks at all before before sending it. Good thing they have an easy to talk to CS. It was resolved immediately because I told them i took pictures and video of it right before i put on the box.
This was my 2nd trade-in nightmare, the 1st one was the Smartwatch trade-in, same thing. They said it has crack also. I wonder who really are checking these?
Samsung is notorious for doing this. Happens with repairs too and has been going on for years.
Many have reported similar experiences.
Another option on addition to taking pics of it is to let a FedEx rep examine the phone then photograph and box it there. ALWAYS insure the shipping for the new replacement price of the phone. Double box and pad/tape it up well.

Yeah, i had to carefully wrapped it from the S23U shipping wraps / box and even installed my old case
Unreal! Samsung tried to do the same thing to me. Wanted to take $155.00 off the value of the Trade-in cause they said the screen was cracked. But i had removed all my accounts from the phone, factory reset it, packed it up in its original box, took pictures and wrote down the IEMI and Serial numbers. Phone was in MINT condition without even a scratch. So they quickly reversed course and gave me the full $500 trade-in value. But it's the first Trade-in where I have had a problem with them. They must have some seriously crooked people on payroll at their warehouses in Texas because obviously I am not the first one they have done this too.
My trade-in with Samsung Germany (S22U Exynos) went flawlessly (sent back with screen protector still on, in the original box). Is it an issue people in USA are often having with the trade-ins?
My S22U trade-in went perfectly too.
I'm in the UK and I actually traded in my 12GB/512GB SnapDragon S9080 which was a Hong Kong spec S22U (and cost me £300 less than the equivalent UK spec phone initially). I got £620 trade-in value for it.
I also only factory reset it as opposed to removing my Google Account first so that debunks that rumour too!

No rumor. If you factory reset from settings you should be ok. If you do the reset from the boot menu without removing your Google account FRP will be active.

Did a class-action against Samsung US got launched in the recent years? If many people are encountering that kind of stuff, I'm nearly surprised that it hasn't been done (yet?).
Small scratch below the camera, samsung called badly cracked and offered the same $155 charge.
I will never trade in with samsung again.

Darn it. I had to rush out my shipment so I had no time to take photos or videos. I also didn’t have the phone box so I just put case and wrapped phone in bubble wrap in a tight box. Does have minor scratches on screen as I only used it with case and no screen guard but nothing else

If you don't use a screen protector it will likely get scratched.
Always keep the original box. When shipping place that in a sturdy box that's bigger and place bubble wrap all around it so it's not loose or in contact with the box, seal with tape.
Get a larger box and repeat.
ALWAYS fully insure the shipping. If prepaid make sure the issuer of the label is fully insuring YOUR phone! If in any doubt pay for the shipping yourself. Use FedEx or UPS, 2nd day is best.

If you didn't have the original phone box you were supposed to send it back in the S23u box.

That's for your protection not theirs!
It strengthens your position if your insurance claim is disputed. Cover your six...
Got exactly the same issue.
My trade in S22 Ultra was in pristine condition.
I contacted support on chat and it took the representative less than five minutes to cancel the charge.
Did they actually checked?
Are they taking a chance that we are going people are going to suck it up and pay $155?
This is borderline fraudulent.
My trade in went down to 1$ value :-( It was originally 5$ so I'm not that disappointed
Seems like this is US problem mostly. My S22U went in... took Samsung 10 days to process and then I've got email that has been done. So my only complain could be lack or very minimal information provided of what is going on.

The instructions for Samsung state to put the phone in the box nothing else. No cases, no accessories etc. Just the bare phone. And you put it in the S23U box and put the s23 box in the shipping box that it came in. At least that how you supposed to do it. I always have my original box so I put mine in the S22U box.
