I remember reading that Lollipop devices will all come with full encryption by default. This doesn't seem to be the case with the S6 or S6edge. Is there a reason they didn't include this? Was there an impact on battery or speed, which made Samsung change their minds? Or was it pressure from intelligence agencies?
For those who use it, do you feel any impact on battery or system resources?

A few weeks after 5.0 was officially released, OEMs had an outcry saying default encryption was problematic. Therefore Google dropped the requirement to have it by default.

I think its both good and bad.
The good thing is that sites is using HTML5 more and more, the bad thing is that many sites still uses flash.

That's only partially correct. There might be security patches (maybe) but that's it. The app will even be removed from the Play Store later this year. So no updates to fix compatibility with new OS versions. That means no Flash on Jelly Bean.

That's very bad news especially for the sgs3. Flash is very buggy on this phone and won't be fixed. When it does work the performance is amazing though. You don't even feel any slowdown when flash is enabled.
What is there reason? It's got 100 million + downloads.. people want flash. Ad a few ads or whatever to make it profitable

Most probably because google want to drop support for flash. So they stopped support in advance. Its a pity because flash works perfectly in the last 2 generations of android smartphones and provided a truly desktop internet experience. Now that android does not support flash browsing is not anymore capable than ios anymore.
Yeah lots of people will probably respond with something about html5 being gazillion time better than flash comments but you know what? html5 performance sucks even worse than flash. Youtube html 5 videos perform poorly even on my i7 desktop pc. So what if html 5 is the future? This has been repeated over and over for the past 3 years but guess what? Today flash is still the more widely used format. I want to view my content now not in the uncertain future.
They said the same about ICS. I'd ignore the comment, the writer is probably just doing some PR to suck up to Apple.

This article compares flash vs html 5 performance. Flash came out on top. While that was back in 2010, I tested it today on my galaxy S3 and flash is still much faster than html5. 25fps vs 48fps.
HTML5 performance suck balls even on my Desktop. Tried all the browsers, many demos work badly. Buggy or not, flash is better right now.
HTML5 videos doesn't even play on the Vimeo desktop page while flash worked perfectly.

I need to use Knox now but also S Note. On my Note 3 there is a Knox version but not for the 10.1.

Well I'm not the best one to answer. There are many here more qualified. But Knox is a security app for Samsung that tells them if you changed the stock recovery or rooted the device. Kind of a use it and lose it (your warrantee ).
I am going to root, but first I'm going to be doing a lot of reading. That's how I did it with my other devices.

That is the big misunderstanding here. You are talking now about a also so called Knox-Bit which works like you explained. But Knox is much more and much different because it is a system appendix from Samsung to have a secure Android platform. Which means that in some companies this is a must before connection to their internal network. And to have this work environment means that you need special apps which work together with Knox.
See more here.

They didnt. They danced around it. Its called a safety strap which keeps the bootloader and basically fools the system to thinking it is being used, while tapping other resources and running the alternate operating system. My terminology sucks, but you get it, right.

Thats easier with Qualcomm than with Exynos. One could probably build CM12.1 for a Snapdragon within short time, with this one it is close to a moonlanding. Starting from scratch and it is hard. I'm soon beginning works on CM12 for the S6E, but if/when that will ever work.. It's not that easy with Exynos. But the S6 is so popular that it should eventually happen. Altough I fear it will rather be for the flat S6 than for the Edge.. More devs over there.
All we would need would be a kernel and the rom would be compatible right? Just have to play the waiting game it seems...

If the Flat gets it, probably yes. But I can't tell in advance how deep their changes will be and if everything will work. But the road to that Rom will anyways be bumpy, long and very, very difficult.
I for once am tired of waiting all the time and going to try building something myself. But I saw how well together CM development and Exy seem to go. It's rocket science
It surprises me how there's not more support to get touchwiz off our phones. U know it's better than it used to be, but for me it unnecessary bloat that's mostly fill of gimmicks. Good luck!

Thanks
The wish to support it is one thing, the skill a completely different problem. It's one thing for Qualcomm, but an entirely different task here. Once there is a working CM base, people will probably start basing Roms on it. But personally speaking, I need every help I can get. If you run over an Exynos dev who has experience with debugging, Roms and CM, hook me up please
So I noticed this morning, my Sprint Galaxy S8+ had a software update. 388mb in size. Just trying to decide if I should go ahead and update or wait because our badass devs are close to releasing root on these phones and don't want to prevent my phone from being able to be rooted. Anyone else get the update notification?

With the addition of calling plus it also gave me a message about rich communication when I went into messages.
I have removed battery icon, alarm and Bluetooth icons. Do you think it'd be ok to update without adding those icons back? I have uninstalled all overlays already and gonna enable all disabled apps. Just wanna know if it'd be safe to take update.

Not sure but I read it somewhere, you can test it out though ?
So I updated my s8 plus just fine and I just did my wife's and after the update installed, the phone rebooted and now this keeps popping up. It won't let me out of it. Is there a way to boot into a safe mode or something to get pass this? What options do I have here? I can't lose the pics she has on this phone.
Never mind, got it fixed.
Anyone else that's updated to this update, have u tried overlays or substratum themes? I think that was the problem with updating my wife's s8 plus because I had the center clock mod installed on her phone when I did the update and I think that's what caused the system ui crash message. Now that we're updated, I would like to install overlays or use substratum again but don't want to crash my phone lol
Enhanced Messaging???
Anyone having issues with Enhanced messaging?
Mine is asking for a Verification Code and Sprint and Samsung have no idea what code it wants.
Does yours work? I have two S8+ but cannot test because my phone wants a code.
